bro literally was jus me i havent got a retwist in like 3-4 months and a cut as well jus wolfing it out. i went and got a cut and loved the look after the cut. granted i went and got a fresh retwist rite after the cut but the look didnt look bad at all after the cut. i was debating on locking my whole head up.

I always feel myself going back and forth between growing out to a full set or keeping the high top. The main reason I got locs was to get the Killmonger look but I feel like the locs mean so much more now. After this video, I’m kinda leaning towards the full set.

I love my high top locs but sometimes I wonder what I would look like with a full set, but I maintain them myself so for me I enjoy the satisfaction of giving myself a fade and a fresh retwist. I'm happy with my decision, headed into year 3 😜.... love to the fam , Shalom

@@His_Chozen_1 I personally really like it. I randomly got my hair twisted with gel when I was 12 and at the time I had the high top haircut. I really liked the look, so I never took the twist out and they ended up becoming dreads. Now I’m 16 and there almost at my shoulders. I really just wear my hair down and people at school can never guess that I have high top. My hair is growing really well never dyed it and I never will. Just enjoy, rocking my dreads with my outfits and I don’t care about length that much so the slower growing is not a con for me. But I have lots of locs thanks to my mom giving me lots of twists. So my volume is really good. It’s actually very similar to tps

Thought about getting a high top set when I first started growing my hair out for the past three years, but after noticing my pattern of growth, a full set just made sense. Glad I was patient because I have “grown” to love my knots. I respect the pineapple heads, though! 😂☮️
I had a hightop set of locs for three years... Just cut them this past spring and currently I am re-growing my hair out for the close taper look. i definitely suggest growing your hair out with an even first this way when its time to loc up you can choose where you want to start your locs.
it still surprises me how many locs you have with a high top. I also have hightop but recently restarted (was loc'd for 2 years) because I wanted more a volume and I'm very excited to see what it's going to loo like the the next few months/years.
The 7th of Dec marks my 6th year w/ high top locs. Honestly, it’s a journey, once your hair grows long enough it’s fun to play around w/ as there’s more styling options imo, that plus the effects of a fresh cut and you can never go wrong. It looks like a full set and that seems to surprise everyone once you reveal it really isn’t. I’d encourage anyone thinking about it to go on and attempt it. But most importantly, be very patient w/ the journey and you’ll be good 😌
Hey TP, I started with a high top in a sense. My nape was buzzed short. So my nape is about 6 months behind the rest of my locs. I do wish my nape was longer. Would give the appearance of longer locs as you said. But it’s been interesting to see the cut grow out, creates unique shape to the hair.
You think you’ll cut the longer ones once the short ones get long enough…👀
It’s crazy TP my first of locs I had for about 5 years & it was a full set but I gotta say i like how everybody is so versatile now guess that’s why I went with a taper this time around

My locs just seem to be in the same length for a while now. I hv high top locs And 11months locked but no length 😭😭😭
Also keep in mind the less locs you have the less full your hair will look when it’s down. My first set I had 34 and my current set is 72. It’s nite and day in how full my hair looks now in comparison.

Had a high top at first. I had them for about a year before I decided to grow out my undercut and sides for a fuller look. It def was a struggle in the beginning but eventually the undercut and sides grew out long enough that it started to catch up to the rest of my hair. So far they're probably only a inch shorter then my older locs so it's looks like a full head and no one notices I've had a high top. It's definitely possible takes times and a lot patience I've been in the game for a total of 2 years and keeping it going! ☺️✌🏽

I think the cons are definitely that lack of range of styles and having to always maintain the sides (especially for work 😂 I always gotta get the sides trimmed so I can tie the hair up or back accordingly) and the pros would be the same as any other loc set. But we'll see how it goes the longer my hair gets coz I'm almost 3 years in and my one regret is that I started my locs really short not when I actually had a long afro but no other regrets.
As a person technically in the high top category starting my locs I love how they look coming along and my first fade? Crisp as a mug 😌 I think I have the benefit of seeing the length in the back as well due to the mohawk so I'm excited to see the process within a couple of years!
As far as point number 1. Mine are now at shoulder length and I keep a skin undercut all the around and it has been the best decision ever avoiding that taper. 5 min to maintain with a trimmer maybe once a month. And the longer my hair got it was just a breeze avoiding mistakes.
So I super agree with the point but I think it’s the fades and all that causing that problem.
Same bro I got hightop locs to my shoulder and also get a skin undercut every 2 months. I clump my dreads together in sections kinda like plaits and put them in rubber bands to show off fresh cut females love it every time lol. I don’t regret my locs at all 2 years 8 months 3 years in June
The best advice is for everyone to start with a full set. You can always switch to a high top if you don't like the full set anymore. Starting with a high top is pretty much irreversible.
I’m 5 months in my journey with high top locs and was already thinkin of restarting to get a full set cause I was afraid it won’t look full enough but seeing how dope your locs look, it encouraged me to keep the journey going I got a drop fade and about 80 locs so my locs will defo look full enough when it grows out. Your vids been a huge help with my journey tp 🫡🫡

We’re all one loc family, except Gunther 😂…..just playing, I’m gonna let it go😂. I’m glad that I went the full set route and wouldn’t change it, BUT there have been times when the awkward phase has led me to wonder what they would look like as a high top. I’m finally to a place where all of it will fit into a pineapple and almost a complete ponytail so I’m happier now than say, three months ago, but yeah, that has been a thought at times. Yeah, the Mason Dixon line claimed one of my smaller starter locs at a haircut. Would be upset, but those smaller ones are the devil to deal with, right&t up there with the back of the crown locs that decide to untwist themselves whenever I look at water too hard. But a full set would cook me alive.

Got high top locs and just now getting to the point where I can put it in a bun. I think everyone with locs considers a few things: should I cut it?, should I get a full set/high top?, should I freeform/retwist. The only thing dreadful about dreadlocks is the retwist process lol.

Started off rocking a full set for 2 years before I went to a high top and I 100% don’t regret it at ALL
Shorter wash/retwist time, my head feels lighter, I can rock more updos, and I feel fresh af after a nice fade!
I think everybody should start with a full set because worst case scenario, you just cut half of em off instead of trying to grow the sides out. Loving the journey so far, and glad to be a part of the high top gang finally 😁

When I went for my retwist at the loctician the barber was there and he just came over and pointed out exactly which ones would be cut off. After he cut them I got a retwist, then a lineup right after

I started off with a full set and I had to cut them because I was on a acne treatment and I decided to cut them off just to look cleaner and I did a fade cut. Eventually it grew and I started twisting them and they grew. I definitely enjoyed the fresh cut with my high top locks. They definitely made me look cleaner. I continued my journey and started seeing everyone have them and I Lost interest. I just don't like looking like every one else, it's just my opinion. I then removed them by going bold and I now have a full set. I'm 3 years in now and I love them!
I can completely relate to what you said about everyone rocking them in such that I'm mixed and have been growing my hair for about 7 years now and have been rocking the fade + tied back puff (Ex. Kay Flock with his braids out) look for what feels like ever at this point. Anytime I say, go to the club now I'll be in line and there's 10-15 other mfs that look just like me with the same hair style. It gets exhausting. Luckily I live in a very predominantly white town but people with dreads, let alone a high top set are few and far between. My hair's about 16 or 17 inches long now and I'm going to start my journey tomorrow. So excited

I think the added maintenance of high top locs gives way to barbers ruining your high top locs by cutting too deep into your edges >_< (which happened to my first set sigh). I'm 3 months into my new set of high top locs and I'm kinda sorta wishing I went with a full set lol but I'm enjoying this current journey. Thanks for your insight as always TP Locks, this channel is a godsend and has been so helpful to me with this new journey!

I started with a full set and just recently got an undercut, not quite a high top set because I prefer to wear my hair down I loved my hair before the undercut but I’m so much happier with it my hair doesn’t look puffy it lays flatter which I love plus I love the backwards hat and Beenie style so it’s great for me
The hats were a major plus for me as well! I couldn’t wear any regular hats with my full set!

I've had high-top locs for five years now, and I prefer to maintain a certain length (about shoulder length). The main reason for growing out my sides now is that I think styles (barrel twist, two strands, etc.) look much better, and you are much more versatile with a low taper/full set of locs.
Since I am not keen on fufu extensions and I don't care much about my length (trimming my locs anyways, because I reached my length goal), I will grow out my sides about three inches, rewist the new growth, trim my dreads and attach them to the sides to get a tapered set of locs (I could never not get a line-up). I have no clue if it'll work, but it should make the process much quicker.
I also have hightop locs and I’ve seen multiple comments talk about attaching the hair from the top to the sides and they literally all said it didn’t work.

It’s all bout how your hair grows, I’ve already caught up with my friends who have full head of locks , my hair grows fast , and they have 2 years on me and I’m a year I’m like 2 inches away from catching up with them

I have a high top with 49 locs. I love my high top but I kinda wish I got them a little smaller or wish I had more volume. I thought with a high top I didn’t want skinny locs so I’m just enjoying the journey. It’s been a year now!

My high top loc’s are at the stage now where i can barely see my fades. Ive been thinking about just growing out the sides instead of getting fades, and having the loctician retwist the sides too once they’re long enough, but idk.

Personally, I think it's a matter of preference. Because I never really liked the fade hair style and had to keep my hair at a medium fade while in the Marines, and once I left, I told myself I would never do that look again.

Alright , so I have a hi top boosie fade to be exact and I’m just getting to the bottom of my back and aroun my belly button AFTER 10 years plus !And it’s really disappointing when you know people who started 4 years 5 years ago and they are pretty much same length or longer . So my pro is : when I cut my fade nice and have a retwist I look super super presentable. My biggest con is the length after so long . At ten years plus any loc’er will be at butt length to knees. ! So this vid is spot on.. I will say this about the full set compared to the fade loc top, for a lack of a better words it looks dirty (in a good way lol) compared to the fade ,the fade makes you look more sharper and youthful. But I’m not biased now that my hair is as long as it it I wish I had a full set I’ll be too the floor forsure 😂
full set i had hig top for three years than decided to grow out my new growth and lock it up and i had to trim like 6 inches to make it even.
For me it's no question lol my sides naturally don't grow longer then like a inch so it's hawk locs. It's easy to maintain that line if you got loose curls it's never hard to see

TP hit all the points for Hi Top Locs. I prefer my Hi Top Locs over the Full Set I had a few years back. currently at 2.5 yrs right now and at the same length as TP. Im just looking forward to the messy bun look but Idk if mines are not long enough or I don't have as many (mines are slightly thicker) as TP but they don't look how TP has his in the beginning of the video. Anybody got some pointers let me know.
Got a full set but im really considering cutting the sides n goin hightop bcos its a year in and i cant do any styles or wear hats most i can do is wear du rags or beanies but if i had a high top i can give myself a fade n line up n wear hats again n feel a bit fresh ... just dont wanna cut em n they dont hang right n ill regret it 😅
Since I'd been getting the mohawk cut I just put the locs in that shape bk in Jan 2018. I let it get pretty long B4 loc'ing. It's now down to my lower back.
Pro tip - cut your own hair and let the barber shape you up to prevent snipping ur locs.
This is what I have 39 locs hawk it doesn't look that full but my hairs thin anyways and a few more locs on the side wouldn't give it that much volume
@@smokehashxuriahjahvid Even tho I can pass for a full head when it's down - I would never trade. It's better to be able to pull it up n cool down. The thin look is cool too. I like to see that cut peek thru. Sometimes the less locs, the better!

got same type hair and i tried and it’s obviously possible but for us it’s gonna take hella more time so mine never looked right but do you struggle to keep your locs on front of your head from thinning out very often ?

Full head is better for me. I had high top for one year and the 7th month I grew out my undercut. Best decision ever in my opinion.

I'm 2 years and 4 months loc'd.. high top,my hair isn't the voluminous type as you mentioned,it is decent but not very voluminous like yours is or very thick too. I have 48 Locs,when down,it covers the side of my head completely so you don't see through but sometimes it feels scanty,I have been having the thought of combining two, I'll end up with 24 which sounds too too few and I fear it might not be as thick as I imagine,I am very fine with my Locs but the thought that it could get thicker is there too,the fear of it looking too few is also there... I don't know if you understand me clearly
I do! It’s sort of an tug of war between deciding to go for thicker locs (with combining) and lose volume or stay with the thinner locs and keep what you have. A tough dilemma for sure fam! I’d probably opt to grow more locs before combining! That’s just me though. Even that sounds awful 😅

What do you think about going from hi-top to full head with taper by cutting the current locs in half and attaching the half loc to the sides?

can you go from a full set to a high top set of locs
The pros of full head is that you can cover your face the bad effects is it takes me. 3 hours just to fix um when new growth comes in

Bro my loctician keeps combining some of my locs at the roots and I have no idea why. I thought it was an accident the first time, but she did it a second time and I don't know why. The locs weren't combined before so i don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing. What is your opinion on this???
