Hey I wanted to know your opinion on the "Apogee mic" and the Apogee "One". Is the "Mic" better than your basic usb mics? Is the old "One" better than the "One" for ipad? Should I scrap the idea of getting any of those devices & get a Avantone CR-14 for recording my violin? My studio is my macbook pro, garageband, and imaschine from iphone 5. I have an M-audio "fast-track" interface but no pre-amp. I also do vocals but my main focus is capturing great violin. $300 budget. What do I do?
Get a Presonus tubepre (one on ebay for $60 currently) and an old M Audio Nova (as low as $30 on ebay. Excellent mics though) Or better yet, find an old ribbon mic on ebay. (Beyerdynamic M 500 going for $199 right now. Decent) Might not want a tube pre if you're going with ribbon, though. A cheap solid state alternative is the M-Audio DMP3. Been discontinued for a while, but I got one for $20 a few years back. The trick is knowing what to look for. Great audio is cheaper than it sounds.
Ribbon + tube mic has always sounded a little squishy to my ears. Sounds sort of okay on violin I guess. Rather use SDC's. 7:33 - That's bull. I've never heard anyone say that every individual track needs to be perfectly isolated. In fact, it's a very common opinion that a snare mic should be on when recording kick drum to get the "rattle." Everyone I know records kick/snare that way.
Dude, you are funny AND good. Amazing, thank you!
thanks for the kind words

If you actually listen to it more carefully you will hear that he is being sarcastic and follows it up with the statement "That is not true."
