Tom Jones is a Welsh singer who has one of the smoothest powerful voices around. And he was a showman too, in fact he was a big heart-throb with the ladies. He has so many hits such as "It's Not Unusual", "What's New Pussycat?", "Green, Green Grass of Home", "She's a Lady". He covers a lot of genres. He is still performing & is a coach on "The Voice" UK version. He also had a variety show from 69 - 71 & had some of the biggest music stars at the time.
Tom took a lot of singing lessons and it shows at his todays age. Kept his voice healthy and never needed auto-tune. he also danced his socks off during a lot of songs without missing a note.
Rock n roll fan here: Saw this man in a Vegas showroom around 2005. He sand this song w/o a microphone. His voice boomed! And he had to be in his 60s? Still the single most amazing vocal performance I have ever witnessed.
I'm 72 years old and this is music from my era and I love watching you younger folk. Checking out these songs for the first time and being. Just as blown away as me and my brothers and sisters were when we first. Heard this guy saying I just want to say. Thank you sincerely appreciate you not only with this song Delilah. But never gonna fall in love again. Great choices, great pics.
What a powerful voice that man has, coupled with his passionate expression, those lyrics come from someplace way down deep in the heart. praise the Lord, thank you for music.
No playback, no autotune, and he still singing today better than many modern "powerful" voices. He is my mother favourite singer. Sir Tom Johnes is a LEGEND.
Ed Sullivan had a one hour variety show on Sunday nights. You "made it" when Sullivan booked you...comedians, singers, magic, acrobats and even puppets. It's where the Beatles first appeared on American TV.
The Ed Sullivan Show had a lot of different types of acts on his show but the most memorable were the big musical artists that performed. As mentioned above The Beatles but also Elvia Presley, Janis Joplin, The Supremes, The Temptations, The Jackson Five, Mamas and Papas, The Rolling Stones, The Doors and so many others. Many times this would be the first time a lot of people were introduced these artists. Reruns of these shows are still shown today.
Tom Jones had a weekly TV show in the late 60's and often performed duets with many of the top singers of the day. Many are on UA-cam. Janis Joplin, Wilson Pickett, Stevie Wonder, etc. An experience not equaled by today's television.
Look at his guest lists. Anybody who was anybody went on his show and usually (its not unusual 😉) sang with him. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/This_Is_Tom_Jones
This was a sequel song to "I'll never fall in love again".....when it came out (yeah, I was around then) this was shocking and some radio stations weren't going to play this until he did it on the Ed Sullivan show! We were a little more innocent in those days...
Tom Jones’s voice was so powerful that he’s broken many microphones in the studio..the women used to go mad for his look…my mum used to love him..my dad wasn’t so happy about it 😂…great reaction..hope you watch more old stuff..there was less channels but better quality programs and stars ✌🏻🇬🇧
Tom J is arguably the best male singer of the 20th century. No one can compare with his power - Tom and Elvis were good friends. Incredibly, both nice humble guys.
I also recommend watching and listening to Engelbert Humperdinck. He was at the top with Tom, had the same manager and was also from Great Britain. A very handsome man and also a great singer. The two singers are often compared, but Tom was more of a showman than Engelbert was.
This is a murder ballad..actually quite common through the centuries...the traveling bards told stories in music and some were very descriptive..lol...even Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison Blues..'I shot a man just to watch him die '... The music is mariachi..Mexican..music... Tom was and remains hot material...no auto tune...his great voice had writers sending their best work...he still sings and coaches... Some ask who hurt him because his ability to emote made folks believe it was actual experience..however he had a long and loving marriage... 🌿🌿🌿
Bars and Barbells, What I love and never get tired of is watching you young ladies and gentlemen Appreciate this music for the first time cuz it reminds me of exactly how my brothers and sisters reacted the first time we heard Tom Jones Elvis Presley the righteous Brothers the four tops the drifters the platters and it's like reliving that experience through you I want to thank you so very very much! Eric Sahagun
I too very much love the instrumentation I love that this time orchestras were used The marvelettes the ronettes would lay down their vocals and feel specter will say bye-bye and they go away and that he would bring in what was known as the WALL OF SOUND and when these people hurt their recording for the first time on the radio they themselves were blown away cuz all they laid down were their vocal tracks and then they heard this huge orchestration in the background which just makes it even that much more dramatic powerful and dynamic people fell in love not only with each other but with this music so glad you guys are appreciating what we already know is some of the best music ever done by some of the greatest artists ever known! "AND NO AUTO TUNE!"Oh and yet Sullivan show was not known for its colors The '60s became a colorful decade because of the hippie and psychedelic art!
In the late 60's we were living in Germany. My dad was in the military and we were there for a three year tour. That is the first time I heard Tom Jones. My mom had some of his albums and she would play them. He had such a delivery. Such a powerful voice, that he had to hold the microphone away from his mouth. Unlike most singers who were right on top of it. I remember watching him once on German tv with my mom one evening. The women in the audience were going crazy. A good number of them were throwing their underwear and bras on the stage while he was singing. You wouldn't have seen that on American, back in the 60's. He also sang the theme song for the 1965 James Bond film "Thunderball". He's 84 years old now. Still going strong, still Mr. Cool. Check out his music video "Sex Bomb".
One of the hardest voice singer to duplicate,,,that was ""TOM JONES""He is really so rare among all greatest voice on earth ,,,so hard to copy him....❤❤❤❤
Great reaction guys. Sir Tom was (and still is) a beast. A contemporary of his was (and still is) Englebert Humperdink. Same vibe. For something different, check out Fanny. I've suggested them a few time to other reaction channels but no-one has tried it yet. Fanny was the first 'all-girl' rock group to sign a contract and record. (this was late 60s-early 70s) They shattered the glass ceiling so groups like Heart, The Runaways, The Bangles, The Go-Gos, etc. could shine. So under-rated. If you chose to try them, use any of the 'Beat Club" videos. The sound is as close to live as you can get. I would suggest "Young and Dumb" to start but any of them will blow you away.
He was discovered by Gordon Mills in the UK music business. Jones' first release was 'Chills and Fever' a flop the this song brought him enourmous success. Another British singer I thought had a very similar voice and just as great was Tony Christie.
Have you guys reacted to ''Only You'' by the Platters. Silky smooth lead vocalist and great harmony by the rest of the group and its one of the best love songs ever. Official version from the 1950's. PS- and he doesn't knife anyone LOL
Love your channel guys, great reactions. How about more 60. 70 s music, that’s my time fame, I’m an old head. Beatles, Bee Gees, CCR, Grand Funk, Doobie bros. I’ll be watching
I've seen this clip so many times that I see something new each time. Tom was mesmerizing so I missed the background visuals. Tom was a hound dog with a VERY tolerant wife. For a taste of a man who really loves his wife as I do mine, watch Don Williams sing about his best friend. ua-cam.com/video/yWGDeBFLsf8/v-deo.html
As a side ...Tom Jones continues to tell the story that when Tom Jones was performing in Las Vegas ( I think at THE DUNES ) or (Caesars Palace) Elvis ... his great friend sang a ballad to TOM while he was waiting for Tom to finish having a shower
I love Tom Jones. My mother loved him. You guys should see him dance. My favorite is "I who have nothing". I have two suggestions Johnny Mathis and Nat King Cole.
Great reaction to Tom Jones!! you also have to check out another artist who came up with Tom under the same manager Gordon Mills is Engelbert Humperdinck. he is known as the king of romance. "A Man Without Love"is one of his greatest hits from his record catalog.
This was during the time that Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass was up in the charts. Lots of brass and mariachi vibes. Sir Tom was in his hot period. Lots of women proposing all sorts of things to him before, during and after his shows. He had his own show and specialized in moving around the stage kissing the girls who came onstage.
I've said this before but this song although I absolutely love and really dig Tom Jones, it gives me O.J. Simpson vibes-lol. You two really should listen to "Green Green Grass Of Home". It's a song that's been done by a lot of people but his version is probably the best. It's also a song that you really need to pay attention to the lyrics to get the meaning of the song.
The Ed Sullivan Show was live and always had time problems. Clearly they asked Tom to speed this up. It’s the fastest version ever. Here’s Tom doing it for the Queen’s Jubilee in front of about a million people: ua-cam.com/video/zo2O5E9Ea9Y/v-deo.html
I saw Tom Jones 5 straight years running in Vegas in the early to mid'70s. He really knew how to manipulate an audience. He could get the men on his side quite excellently. He'd do 2 shows a night and from what I understand, the 2nd show was not the same as the first. Then, after the shows he's off to a performer's house or penthouse and still keep singing all night long. He just loves to sing. Also, I also head that his rehearsals were generally made up of British bawdy bar songs and backstage there would be betting as to which women would be jumping on stage.
I think Sam would enjoy "What`s New Pussycat", it was the theme from a 1960s comedy film. With an expression typical of the `60`s period. You might also checkout another Welsh singer Dame Shirley Bassey, in particular two of the Bond themes she did, (Goldfinger) & (Diamonds Are Forever.)
Guy's if you want a real amazing moment in time just for you to enjoy. Here is a video when the son of Sir Tom's greatest hit appears as a contestant on The Voice UK. I do have one warning have tissues available. So enjoy this. Remember this is an almost 80 year old voice you're hearing. ua-cam.com/video/ySopatr6AoE/v-deo.html Tom Jones and Peter Donegan duet on the song Peter's dad wrote for Tom.
You maybe don´t know it ,but we here in Czechoslovakia had excellent singer named Karel Gott (sadly not alive already) and he had same fenomenal voice.. Sang this song with Czech lyrics and many more even better than great Tom and it´s not really easy !!
Tom Jones is known as a Belter. So what is a belter? A Belter is someone who can sing clearly very loudly as opposed to a Crooner, before the advent of good microphones in the late 1920s most singers were Belters (they had to be heard above the band/group). Crooner is a term used to describe primarily male singers who performed using a smooth style made possible by better microphones which picked up quieter sounds and a wider range of frequencies, allowing the singer to access a more dynamic range and perform in a more intimate manner. Some popular Crooners are Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin and David Bowie.

There's a vid of Janis on his show, doing the classic 1935 tune "Little Girl Blue". (well,..her version), it's a good one.
I've had a crush on him since I was a kid. My mom used to play his records and watched his shows.
Tom is still going strong at 82, and his voice sounds great.
Tom took a lot of singing lessons and it shows at his todays age. Kept his voice healthy and never needed auto-tune. he also danced his socks off during a lot of songs without missing a note.
This is what real talent sounds like, thanks for playing I’m now 72 and brings back great memories

His voice boomed!

So awesome. Tom is Welsh. Welsh singers usually have the best diction.

One of the most powerful voices.
Remember our family sitting together watching toms shows my mother loved him
That section “I felt the knife in my hand and she laughed no more” used to be the ringtone I had for my mother in law…
Tom Jones had a weekly TV show in the late 60's and often performed duets with many of the top singers of the day. Many are on UA-cam. Janis Joplin, Wilson Pickett, Stevie Wonder, etc. An experience not equaled by today's television.

Women threw their knickers at him .
Amazing vocals, sort of dark music, but very dark song especially for that time. Tom is amazing, he never disappoints.

THE BEST TOM JONES SONG IS "I'M NEVER GONNA FALL IN LOVE AGAIN".
The follow up to this song is Green green grass of home. Ties the story up nicely.
green green grass was before this
I love this man’s voice. I don’t care what he sings.
Tom J is arguably the best male singer of the 20th century. No one can compare with his power - Tom and Elvis were good friends. Incredibly, both nice humble guys.
Do you notice how far the microphone is from his face, his voice is so powerful that it doesn’t need to be so close or else it would be distorted
I also recommend watching and listening to Engelbert Humperdinck. He was at the top with Tom, had the same manager and was also from Great Britain. A very handsome man and also a great singer. The two singers are often compared, but Tom was more of a showman than Engelbert was.
Absolutely!
Sir Tom Jones is amazing! If you have not already, you need to see him in his 80s on The Voice UK. Talk about class.
Tom is still touring! At 82. 83? I’m going to see him in concert in a few weeks. Can’t wait!
I noticed that the band conductor was dancing more than Tom was
The next you should do is The Green Green Grass of Home…. His a man on death row.
This is a murder ballad..actually quite common through the centuries...the traveling bards told stories in music and some were very descriptive..lol...even Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison Blues..'I shot a man just to watch him die '...

Another Sir Tom classic. Love this man! ❤❤
His rhythm is incredible, as well. Thank you.
Thank you too!
My mother loved Tom Jones... She had several of his albums, so I'm well acquainted with his singing and songs. .o0
I've know this song since it came out, all my life, and I never realized it was a murder song.
My man has some pipes!
He explained in an interview that it was a suicide
❤ My dad used to play this record when I was growing up in the 70's.✌
At 5:55 of this song I love seeing the bandleader dancing on his toes while conducting!
Tom Jones wasn’t a songwriter but a great interpreter of songs. One of my favorites is She’s A Lady. My mother was totally ga ga over him.
All I need to say is... "Live performance" Wow!
He was and is, AMAZING.
The conductor of the orchestra behind him is having quite a time too.

ВЕЛИКОЛЕПНЫЙ ПЕВЕЦ,БРАВО.БРАВО.БРАВО !!!!!!!!!!!!!
this song is sung in unison in pubs all over britain, very popular song
Another beast is Steve Perry, lead singer of Journey. Late 70s, early 80s.
Both are once in a generation voice
If you wan to be totally blown away, react to Tom Jones and Janis Joplin, "Raise Your Hand". One of the highest energy duets you will ever see!
One of the hardest voice singer to duplicate,,,that was ""TOM JONES""He is really so rare among all greatest voice on earth ,,,so hard to copy him....❤❤❤❤
Yes he did say knife
Please listen and give us your reaction to, Tom Jones, Green Green Grass of Home. 👍.
You might also like Tom’s nemesis Englebert Humperdinck, he’s crooner like Tom, from roughly the same era.
Catch Sir Tom as a coach on The Voice UK - in his 80's, still has it.
What I like about this song is the contrast of a very dark story with a happy , festive music arrangement with outstanding vocals.
More Tom !!!
I remember watching this on the TV.
Hi there. This was made famous for the introduction of the mariachi band sound in chorus, plus Toms vocals.
Great reaction, you two! Next stunning classic from him should be 'Without Love".
Auto version!
You have to listen to the green green grass of home.
In a way, I guess that you could consider his "Green, green grass of home" as a follow-up...😅
❤❤❤ thanks for sharing. Keep going you guys are great.❤❤❤❤

Very nice song such as powerful voice. Some other songs of his you might light are "whats New Pussycat"" and more 80's "Sexbomb""
Go to The Voice UK...He still sings on the show...He's 81...💜
Band sounded a little like Herb Alpert's band. Tom was on the brit version of the voice recently. Still singing in his eighties.
Have you guys reacted to ''Only You'' by the Platters. Silky smooth lead vocalist and great harmony by the rest of the group and its one of the best love songs ever. Official version from the 1950's. PS- and he doesn't knife anyone LOL
Trumpets, almost mariachi were made popular around that time by tracks such as Johnny Cash's 'Ring of Fire'
I'm in my 60's I grew up listening to Tom Jones
The instrumentation is very of its time. Try THE GREEN GRASS OF HOME.
Love your channel guys, great reactions. How about more 60. 70 s music, that’s my time fame, I’m an old head. Beatles, Bee Gees, CCR, Grand Funk, Doobie bros. I’ll be watching
Thanks! We have some Bee Gees & Beatles coming down the pipeline!
@@barsandbarbells2022 Hey Jude live, Don’t let me down live, Beatles at their best
I love the orchestra director..
I've seen this clip so many times that I see something new each time. Tom was mesmerizing so I missed the background visuals. Tom was a hound dog with a VERY tolerant wife. And one of my favorites when I want to re-enjoy eternity in a moment of passion. ua-cam.com/video/sCiZppNHdLY/v-deo.html Engelbert Humperdinck
the music is based in Spain. he was a coal miner before a singer. sang in the mines while working. all chest voice, but what a chest voice!
As a side ...Tom Jones continues to tell the story that when Tom Jones was performing in Las Vegas ( I think at THE DUNES ) or (Caesars Palace) Elvis ... his great friend sang a ballad to TOM while he was waiting for Tom to finish having a shower
Great Reaction 👍🙏👣
Thank you 🙌
I love Tom Jones.
Try Tom's rendition of I won't crumble if you fall on The Voice as a coach and watch the other 3 judge's reactions, almost adoration.
You should see him have fun with an old 3 Dog Night song, "Momma Told Me Not To Come".
Search Tom Jones singing "i'm never gonna fall in love again" Brilliant.
you really need to watch Tom Jones-Treat Her Right- This Is Tom Jones Show. if you really want to see tom being a beast.

Tom is suave and sexy as hell, and he still is. That voice and those moves.
Please if you get the opportunity listen to "With these hands" when Sir Tom Jones met Elvis Presley Elvis greeted him singing with these hands.
Ya'll should check out Marty Robbins; Big iron, El Paso, Feleena and El Paso City! you won't be disappointed. the final three are a trio off songs.
Very Mairachi band vibes.
Singers today can’t hold a candle to these stars of this time.
I grew up watching and listening to Tom Jones from the 1960’s on. You know? Women used to throw their undies on stage when he performed live.
Coolest of the Cool!!🥰♥️
I do believe it's Gloryhammer that uses this song, plus a cardboard cutout of Tom Jones while the song plays.
I saw Tom Jones 5 straight years running in Vegas in the early to mid'70s. He really knew how to manipulate an audience. He could get the men on his side quite excellently. He'd do 2 shows a night and from what I understand, the 2nd show was not the same as the first. Tom is still a top tier singer. This was definitely 🔥🔥🔥🔥. What's New Pussycat is one of my favorites of his. Much more lighter than this great song.😀

Fun Fact this is OJ Simpson's favorite song. lol That being said Love this song too, Tom is great and that live big band are just so good/epic here.
You might like his song, I won’t crumble, it’s a great song..

Tom's vocals and the music often overshadow the meaning of the song. A woman who cheated with no remorse was stabbed to death by her man
