Happy Reviewer It weakened the tension in the story. Who is the bad guy? Mensk? He didn't feel much of a threat in Starcraft 1. He was part of a bigger story. Why did he all of a sudden become the main villain? He barely managed to survive at the end of Brood War. And now he's dead? And who's the main villain? This supper-massive God-Like creature? I think David Brevik was right when he said, "People matter in the industry", because now we can see it with our own eyes. The developers of the Blizzard Golden Age are gone now, and it shows that they can barely come up with anything decent even with new recruits. People matter man, they really do....
Yeah I hear ya man. I get tired of these Blizzard Apologists or whatever you call them, saying that we have nostalgia on the mind. They don't know they Blizzard lost prodigies on their team. Prodigies don't come around every 10 decades or even 20 for that matter. Because it's been 20 years since Diablo 2 and Starcraft 1. Maybe more. Yet, they can't surpass their own games anymore. They should be like, well we made that game dam good. Let's build off of it. Except this wasn't they case they scraped the old units. This might be getting off topic, but the thing that made Halo great was they knew they had something to keep and build off of just a little. There are exceptions I know this. Warcraft2 was a great sequel and new new game. The first one didn't have air or sea. There's a point though. Don't replace the classics with lesser appealing products.
There could be multiple reasons. Disputes in pay. Developers got tired of new crap stories. Finally, some maybe felt it was time to venture out on their own. In which case, wouldn't be Blizzards entire fault, but still a good bit.
Happy Reviewer agreed, Kerrigan should not have been the focus of heart of the swarm, it should have been some other queen who reunites the swarm. When kerigan was first infested, it was like her evil demonic side that you wouldn't want to cross, like that mission when you had to purge the cores, Kerrigan was freaking scary. Now she is a friendly beasty, who wants to help everyone while voluntarily wanting to look like a monster, I mean wtf
Amazing considering that this game was released in 1998 (when i was only around 2 years old) those cinematics are outstanding. Its breakthroughs like this that make Blizzard the best gaming company and make their games some of the best around the world. You rule Blizz!!!
RIP to the marines who died fighting down there. Back when even cinematics and graphics were extremely Dark, Brutal and Terrifying even before the start of the game itself which was and still is my favourite! The zergs' brutality and the Terrans' hopelessness is so full of thought provoking moments, til death without help when one thought about would have been the only chance of survival and escape is absolutely scary and sad to watch! Bravo to the old schoolers like myself!
For all you who miss the good old days; There's a mod for Starcraft 2 called "Starcraft Mass Recall" - it recreates the entire SC 1 & BW campaign for SC2 Search for Starcraft Mass Recall on UA-cam and see for yourselves :)
I feel this cinematic is introspective to the state of humanity and lack of leadership amidst utter emotional chaos. Letting the system dictate when to fight when to rest when to die and finally abandoning an agenda that they miss the target because of the lack of unity with Protoss bringing unity through destruction.
I always loved this cinematic, I thought it was the best I'd ever seen back in the day. I also remember being surprised when the same marines from the beginning of this end up nuked at the end of it. but personally I'd rather be nuked than killed by the Zerg.
When the Brood War expansion pack was being developed, the Earth Directorate was originally going to be a fourth race, basically Terrans but with far more advanced technology. But scheduling conflicts in Blizzard prevented it from happening. Plus they would have also needed to completely mod and balance out the other three races to make a fourth one fit.
My father proudly played StarCraft. And when we were little, he showed us this cinematic. It kinda traumatized me XD It traumatized me to be absolutelly adicted to it
I remember as a kid my friend was like "I got SC come over and play" I get over to his house and hes playing SC on the console... Never seen again after that day.

Yeaahh I know this comment is over a year old, but I recently was thinking about WH 40k and SC Marines comparison and who would win in a 1v1 battle. The answer (in my opinion) is: Whoever gets the hit first. Standard bolters are essentially loaded with miniature demolition charges that hit their target behind its armour. But each and every 8mm bullet from Impaler Gauss Rifle goes well over the speed of sound and they are capable of eventually penetrating the armour of heavy vehicles, not to mention other Marine's armours. And they fire at the rate of 30 rounds per second, you saw how fast that Marine depleted his clip. So whoever gets hits first, dies, be it an explosive bullet turning your insides into mush, or a cloud of super piercing shreds of metal, changing you and your armour into swiss cheese.
Bruh, space marines have multiple hearts, a rib cage as thick as their armour and can sruvive for a while after organ failiure. While a wh space marine would die from the hail of bullets, it would not be instant and the space marine will always get the first shot in due to their reactipn speed (the sons of medusa for example can predict what their opponents can do so well it means they ALWAYS get the first shot in.)
@@kemonoautumnfall6331 "Admiral the colonies base will be overrun in a matter of minutes..," that and he didn't know who was in charge.. And didn't see the air support right above him. And the way he used his gun. All of which implies he's not a trained soldier but a conscript from the colonies militia.
It was the atmosphere and the theme that made them great. SC2 has very high quality animation, and badassery, but not one of them makes me get chills like the 'Amerigo' or BW intro still do every time I watch them. It's like Aliens, it's just badass for life.
Interesting thing to think about if you compare this and SC2 cut scenes. The games were 12 years apart, and processing power doubles every 18 months. This means there were 8 doubling periods in processing power. That may not seem like a lot but it means that SC 1 was made with 1/256 of the processing power available! Suddenly these cut scenes are downright cutting edge!!
as the years go by, old blizzard has remained hardcore and no one will surpass them and has not surpassed them, legends with a sad expression on their faces... There won't be any more of these
***** what he did was give himself an honorable death since he lost the battle(even though the zerg were still finishing of the terrans) this is like in world war 2 when the japanese generals would kill them selfs and then their forces would fight the american to the death knowing victory is imposible
***** A theory is also that DuGalle was partially mind controled by Duran, who we know was a powerful shapeshifter in service to Amon. Duran wanted to eliminate the UED Fleet, so that his plans may proceed without any complications. It is not verified if he truly mind controled DuGalle, but it's a possibility.

Terran fortifications and technology was suited for Terran versus Terran combat before the Zerg Invasion, since the the Brood War takes place almost immediately after the events of SC1 (Considering the way Chapter 4 The Fall opens), they haven't had the time to update their technology to create units suited to fighting Zerg or Protoss.
You also forgot adapting their strategy and tactics... but then, since the Zerg's stratagems and tactics are dirt simple by design, to be fair, it really doesn't take a genius to realize that nuking them from orbit just to be sure before sending in any surface combatants would be the smartest possible move especially since the Terrans are nuke crazy.
The Xel'Naga temple was on Shakuras. Aiur was lost due to a complete overrun by the Zerg. The Protoss evacuated it . Shakuras is still firmly in Protoss' hands and seems to be their base of operations now.

Happy Reviewer Here is the bigger question, why are they doing this? Is it really because they lost all the good developers?
There could be multiple reasons. Disputes in pay. Developers got tired of new crap stories. Finally, some maybe felt it was time to venture out on their own. In which case, wouldn't be Blizzards entire fault, but still a good bit.
Happy Reviewer agreed, Kerrigan should not have been the focus of heart of the swarm, it should have been some other queen who reunites the swarm.
When kerigan was first infested, it was like her evil demonic side that you wouldn't want to cross, like that mission when you had to purge the cores, Kerrigan was freaking scary.
Now she is a friendly beasty, who wants to help everyone while voluntarily wanting to look like a monster, I mean wtf
one thing i miss most about SC and BW is the sounds. SC2 marine rifles sound like pea shooters.
Even in 2019 i still think the cinematics are phenomenal, and the studio behind this is beyond amazing. I still think with pure joy about this game.
It's been years since I've played Starcraft, but I still remember the intro word for word. Fucking love this game!
4:05 Goosebumps...
Amazing considering that this game was released in 1998 (when i was only around 2 years old) those cinematics are outstanding. Its breakthroughs like this that make Blizzard the best gaming company and make their games some of the best around the world.
You rule Blizz!!!
WHERE IS THE AIR SUPPORT?!
In the air?
one battlecruiser
idk man

The first cinematic still gives me chills
RIP to the marines who died fighting down there. Back when even cinematics and graphics were extremely Dark, Brutal and Terrifying even before the start of the game itself which was and still is my favourite! The zergs' brutality and the Terrans' hopelessness is so full of thought provoking moments, til death without help when one thought about would have been the only chance of survival and escape is absolutely scary and sad to watch! Bravo to the old schoolers like myself!
For all you who miss the good old days; There's a mod for Starcraft 2 called "Starcraft Mass Recall" - it recreates the entire SC 1 & BW campaign for SC2
Search for Starcraft Mass Recall on UA-cam and see for yourselves :)
I feel this cinematic is introspective to the state of humanity and lack of leadership amidst utter emotional chaos. Letting the system dictate when to fight when to rest when to die and finally abandoning an agenda that they miss the target because of the lack of unity with Protoss bringing unity through destruction.
"I lost argument, so I'm trolling."
I always loved this cinematic, I thought it was the best I'd ever seen back in the day. I also remember being surprised when the same marines from the beginning of this end up nuked at the end of it. but personally I'd rather be nuked than killed by the Zerg.
I'm suprised that somehow the U.E.D have the same technology as the Terrans
In Toss company, when Zeratul and Artanis meet Stukov fleet, Artanis say, that never see terran like this. Blizzard a lazy one, to build another race)

Kerrigan: I know how you feel.
The intro is a great homage to apocalypse bow. If you haven't seen that movie, you need to.
Dude unloaded 200+ rounds on 2 zerglings and didn't even kill one of them. No wonder these marines are losing
Blizzard went from this to Overwatch, someone fucking kill me
1:05 , yep Starwars troopers will be proud
lol i mean the imperial soldiers, that guy missed every shoot lol
My father proudly played StarCraft. And when we were little, he showed us this cinematic. It kinda traumatized me XD
It traumatized me to be absolutelly adicted to it
I remember as a kid my friend was like "I got SC come over and play" I get over to his house and hes playing SC on the console... Never seen again after that day.
Where is my air support?
Kenneth Yu It abandoned you useless Marine
I will be damed.
I love how even five months later the profile pic still applies. XD
@@Toast_94 you mean 2 years boi? Xddd
@@egebabus3423 That's amazing. Thank you
In st 2 battles and wars look funny.
In st 1 battles and wars look realistic, scary, dark, you even feel despair of these solders. I liked it.
When he flicks that lighter out, I get goosebumps.
this was dark was perfect
“Where’s the air support?”
*points to the sky*
What is the background song playing on 1:47-2:05 from this movie?
i remember watching this cinetmatic during 1998-1999 at my high school friend's house.
So much for the air support.
UED was cold
trench warfare against the zerg is the worst fucking idea they could come up with.
Won't get siege tank splash damage in a trench, hydras can't get ya easy, and when zerglings do get in, they are all packed in and bottlenecks easy for a firebat to torch.
Trench warfare is your best option when you need to slow down a charging enemy.
give me a break, trench warfare was a doctrine that was designed to help the troops against the artillery fire which was the most devastating force in WWI. as the doctrines changed the trenches vanished with the advent of airplanes, MBTS and long range mobile artillery..
1. mutalisk and the glaive wurms can eradicate anything that is stationed within a trench.
2. ultralisks , lurkers and defilers can turn the trenches into slaughterhouses
3. we are talking about an enemy that can burrow-charge a position.
4. the term you are looking for is WALLS, have you ever watched starship troopers? watch it and learn why walls are a better option to trenches.

You're forgetting these fortifications were likely erected during the Guild Wars, or other of the plethora of Terran on Terran conflicts.
The Terran war machine was prepared to fight other Terran, not Aliens at the time.
"Where is the air support!!"
* Points into the air *
Where else would it be?
3 clicks east from Manhatten
i may like SC2 for its improved Multiplayer. But god damn i come back every time for Brood War's story. That will never change.
3:27 - 4:10
Evoked more emotion than anything I've seen in SC2. I don't even get me started on the final cinematic of the game where Jirard shoots himself.
lol... starship trooper send great wishes!....only a death zerg are a good zerg!
For all you Terran players out there, this is what happens when you abandon your marines...
I NEVER get tired of watching these!
That felt like Starship Troopers
Pffffft... The Emperor's Space Marines will show them how to get shit done.
27500 years too soon.
While a wh space marine would die from the hail of bullets, it would not be instant and the space marine will always get the first shot in due to their reactipn speed (the sons of medusa for example can predict what their opponents can do so well it means they ALWAYS get the first shot in.)
did that marine just fire an 80 round burst? jesus no wonder he missed...
+Derek Luckas He was a colonist
Sérgio Maurício where is the hint that he is a colonist?
@@kemonoautumnfall6331 "Admiral the colonies base will be overrun in a matter of minutes..," that and he didn't know who was in charge.. And didn't see the air support right above him. And the way he used his gun. All of which implies he's not a trained soldier but a conscript from the colonies militia.
This cinematic gives me nerd chills every single time.
It was the atmosphere and the theme that made them great. SC2 has very high quality animation, and badassery, but not one of them makes me get chills like the 'Amerigo' or BW intro still do every time I watch them.
It's like Aliens, it's just badass for life.
WHERE IS THE AIR SUPPORT
God I love that
No, someone is smart.
the temple explosion was epic. i am so glad it protected the templars who used it
i dont know what but theres something about these old school graphics that i just love
Why did they put effort into the mouth movements for the main characters and just leave the marine mouth movements to shit?
Interesting thing to think about if you compare this and SC2 cut scenes. The games were 12 years apart, and processing power doubles every 18 months. This means there were 8 doubling periods in processing power. That may not seem like a lot but it means that SC 1 was made with 1/256 of the processing power available! Suddenly these cut scenes are downright cutting edge!!
as the years go by, old blizzard has remained hardcore and no one will surpass them and has not surpassed them, legends with a sad expression on their faces... There won't be any more of these
This is a good analogy for my workplace. I'm down in the trenches, upper management is in their comfy battlecruisers.
Did Dugall kill himself because he blamed himself for Stukov's death?
***** what he did was give himself an honorable death since he lost the battle(even though the zerg were still finishing of the terrans) this is like in world war 2 when the japanese generals would kill them selfs and then their forces would fight the american to the death knowing victory is imposible
***** A theory is also that DuGalle was partially mind controled by Duran, who we know was a powerful shapeshifter in service to Amon. Duran wanted to eliminate the UED Fleet, so that his plans may proceed without any complications. It is not verified if he truly mind controled DuGalle, but it's a possibility.
2:07 this man looks like Vladimir Putin ))
I remember as an 8 year old getting delightfully scared watching this cinematic every single time we would play this game at my friend's house.
Here to cleanse the Stormgate experience out of my mind (and I'm not even a sci-fi fan, I prefer fantasy, but this is still art and has a soul and a style).
- Adûnâi
millions of years later, and they still using trenchs in their battlefield?? who are you guys?? france?
What is your super smart strategy ignazen
I still don't see how a trench would help against zerglings, a bunker would be much better.
TERRAN(테란).PROTOSS(프로토스)
.ZERG(저그)
Starcraft, I'm so sad for what they have done with you. At least I have the classic one to remember.
The Xel'Naga temple was on Shakuras. Aiur was lost due to a complete overrun by the Zerg. The Protoss evacuated it .
Shakuras is still firmly in Protoss' hands and seems to be their base of operations now.
1:43 WHERE IS THE AIR SUPPORT??????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol his mouth
Woltron X omg right!
THIS, was StarCraft. Horrible, brutal, glorifed war. Not that shit they gave us in SC2. Man Blizzard I really wish I could get a chance to talk at a BlizzCon just to say, "You really fucked up with SC2 and dropped that ball big time Blizzard, after 10 fucking year this is what you give us????" Then just walk off stage lol.
+IIIJFRIII And you haven't even touched upon Diablo 3 yet...
Lol, I heard they fuccked that up to. I'll leave that to another person.
+IIIJFRIII WoW now too :(
+IIIJFRIII Regardless, it was more faithful than SCII to the original in design, it still had Dragoons, and even had the first Protoss unit with a ranged weapon. And a multiplayer that had concepts mixed from Battlezone [1998] (vehicles in FPS), Return to Castle Wolfenstein and C&C Renegade.
***** It was... ok.
Back in my day we paid 1,000 hour to laborers for piecerate winter roof work... at least in Northrend
I loved the Apocalypse Now reference in 1:24 with the black guy with the grenade launcher.
