Prince was a master instrumentalist. There isn't anything he couldn't play, and he mastered everything he did play. We will never see a talent like his again. R.I.P. Prince
I grew up in the 80's and have seen many live guitar solos and this one is one of the best. With this performance, I'd put him right up there with Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Prince never got the credit he deserved for being a great guitarist. I bow down.
My favorite guitar solo!🔥 BTW, he refused to rehearse his solo in front of anyone, so when he performed on stage was the first time anyone got to hear it! R.I.P. Prince❤️
Prince LOVED the guitar. There are several stories from different guitarists like Dave Grohl and Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top of when Prince approached them because he wanted to jam and learn from them. He just loved adding new styles to his repertoire.
@atwellorama are you crazy Prince learn from Dave, Billy, and ZZ Top more like they can learn from Prince he was a more complete musician than all those guys no disrespect but it’s just the facts
This solo, without a single rehearsal with the band, was his smack on the face to a lot of people and specially to The Rolling Stone Magazine wich let him out of the list of 100 best guitar players of all times... You can feel the complicity with his friend Tom Petty while playing. Danny Harrison (George's son) was completely nervous before the show and Tom just said "Don't worry man, he's Prince". PS: I would like to name Steve Ferroni on the drums, a great musician.
Hey Phillipe ,🌷🌷 When they asked Clapton{slowhand} how it was to be the best gitarist in the World , he answerd "Don't know ask Prince"yes that says it all , kind regards of Dimashdear Netherlands
Fil, this is a legend of a track and performance. Since the original appeared in 1968 on the 'The Beatles' album (known as the White Album) it has never left my playlist. I've listened to sooo many covers, this is the best live cover. #QcumberSquad #TomPetty #JeffLynn #SteveWinwood #Prince #DhaniHarrison - Fil, I'm off back to the study.
Tom Petty - lead vocals, guitar Jeff Lynne - co-lead vocals, guitar Steve Winwood - organ Dhani Harrison - guitar, backing vocals Jeff Young - piano Marc Mann (ELO, Oingo Boingo) - lead guitar Scott Thurston (The Motels, The Heartbreakers) - bass Steve Ferrone (AWB, Duran Duran, The Heartbreakers) - drums Jim Capaldi (Traffic) - persussion, tambourine Prince - soul, swagger, heat, sexiness George Harrison - spiritual guidance Eric Clapton - blues inspiration Jimi Hendrix - cosmic influence
I think about 30. 28 are very well documented of him playing. I believe he was always adding new instruments to his repertoire. He let the wind instrument players do that for him though, probably because he needed his lungs for singing.
The year before this, the list of 100 greatest guitarists was published and Prince was snubbed. So they invited him to jam with them at Harrison's induction to the Hall of Fame. If you watch right before he starts, Dhani nods him in with excitement and it immediately changes the whole feel. Where the others were technical and true to source but flat and lifeless, Prince added beauty, vitality and passion and it brought up the whole performance.
YOU ARE CORRECT!!!!!! Even, when Eric Clapton was asked in an interview, "What's it like being the Best lead guitarist of all time?" His response was, "I don't know, you have to ask Prince!" NO Cap!!! #ThePurpleOne #PrinceRogersNelson
New sub! This was a master class in rock. Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, and Jeff Lynn of ELO aren't shabby - they're incredible on their own. I love the look Prince gives them before he starts another riff. Like, "just wait until you hear this!" Prince was always the best performer. I got to see him 5 times before he passed, and he had the audience wrapped around his finger the entire concert. Also a RIP to Tom Petty. I hope God is rocking out with them! (along with the guitar Prince threw into the air at the end - it never came down?)
@@305pistol "Prince worked obsessively on the project, singing all vocals and playing all instruments, including acoustic, electric, and bass guitar; acoustic and Fender Rhodes piano; synth bass; various keyboard synths by Oberheim, Moog, and ARP; orchestra bells; drums and percussion. He used the Oberheim to provide the sound of a horn section, but with guitar lines layered into the mix." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/For_You_(Prince_album) The man was crazy 😆
THere are NOT 27 instruments on his first album and Prince only ever played the following instruments EVER: Guitar, bass, drums and keyboard. He NEVER played ANYTHING else on any record nor live. NEVER! A complete myth for which there is zero evidence. And even the liner notes of his albums back up what I am saying. Prince was the GOAT, but he never mastered more than 4 instruments. Period!
Right before this performance rolling stone put out thier top 100 guitarist list and left him off. Which kinda pissed him off and he used this opportunity to play it in such a way its the best middle finger of all time. Even the guitar toss and walking off like a boss was directed to the writer that made the list. Great reaction brother keep it up!
You absolutely NEED to watch Prince's Super Bowl halftime show. Ranked #1 best halftime show of all time by Billboard, Rolling Stone magazine, and by Vulture.
Can't really see it here, but I love the smile on Dhani Harrison's face (George's son) when Prince leans back off the stage but keeps right on shredding. And of course the disappearing guitar at the end. There's another remastered cut of the same peerformance here: ua-cam.com/video/dWRCooFKk3c/v-deo.html
there's a story about that. He had not be mentioned in rolling stone's charts for best guitarists and he didn't like it. He didn't show up for rehearsal of the song and everybody was a little worried. The leggend says he only told Danie, George Harrison's son: I will try to put a smile on your face. And it could be a sad day for him, remembering his passed dad. And then he came out like that. The best asshole on earth, in my opinion.
He made this special because of WHY he was there! U should research what a musical genius he actually was!! And he was self-taught! Prince fans ALWAYS knew what an amazing guitarist he was! Ck out Putple Rain n his solo for that if in doubt.
Okay I feel its my duty but when we were actually living witnessing such greatness, we gave accolades to ALL ON THE STAGE NOT JUST ONE PERSON. we understood UNITY. the world today can't grasp this concept. We wish you would.
Each and every one of them is great in their wright but, please Phil, if not for us than for yourself. Go to a private place and hear the original Beatles track . Heartbreaking and genius.
Prince was always an underrated guitarist. His passing was a huge shock
"OMG!!"😮..PRINCE IS🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Prince was a master instrumentalist. There isn't anything he couldn't play, and he mastered everything he did play. We will never see a talent like his again. R.I.P. Prince
RIP
Prince, Jimi and Stevie Ray Vaughan are MY top three simply because of the swag. Nobody plays with swag like they do...
Prince not only made it special .. he made a point! My man Prince 💜 was the GOAT! 🥒❤2 u
He made a point because they wanted him too. How you all miss this?
Prince is amazing! He checks every box 💜 Prince was inducted into the RRHF that evening too.
It takes a skilled player to make a guitar weep, and that stage was full of talent...but Prince schooled all of them. Great reaction, thank you!

I do not believe for one purple second that Prince wanted to actually learn from them, I think he was just looking for musician friends, that is it.
For those of you who ever wanted to know what a rock star sounds like, looks like, and acts like…Prince is the answer in this epic video.
Where's Prince? .....wait for it.....wait for it 🤴🏽🎸🎵
He was the sharpest looking man on the stage as well as a guitar slayer 😂

💜🐾 Prince !
Tom Petty was and is right up there with Tyler Joseph. Speaks directly to my soul ❤️
But prince was one with his guitar it was his sul
Prince is a multi instrumentalist. That's a fact. R.I.P. to the legendary Prince.
Before a Mic drop Prince did this after he killed it❤

One of my favorites ❤❤❤
Genius!!!! Been Underrated since the 80s, plays every instrument to perfection. It's Amazing that know one knew this 🤨
Tom Petty - lead vocals, guitar
Jeff Lynne - co-lead vocals, guitar
Steve Winwood - organ
Dhani Harrison - guitar, backing vocals
Jeff Young - piano
Marc Mann (ELO, Oingo Boingo) - lead guitar
Scott Thurston (The Motels, The Heartbreakers) - bass
Steve Ferrone (AWB, Duran Duran, The Heartbreakers) - drums
Jim Capaldi (Traffic) - persussion, tambourine
Prince - soul, swagger, heat, sexiness
George Harrison - spiritual guidance
Eric Clapton - blues inspiration
Jimi Hendrix - cosmic influence
There seemed to be nothing Prince couldn't do with an instrument. He played several.
I think about 30. 28 are very well documented of him playing. I believe he was always adding new instruments to his repertoire. He let the wind instrument players do that for him though, probably because he needed his lungs for singing.

Prince performed all vocals and played all 27 instruments on his first album, “For You.” It was 1978 and he was just 20. 🤯🤯
Wow,, Really?

You should definitely watch/ listen to more Prince, I would personally put him top 5 guitarist of all time.
YOU DID NOT KNOW HE COULD PLAY GUITAR LIKE THAT? come on man check out his cover of crimson and clover and creep.

Prince played over 80 instruments top level, are there even 81 musical instruments??
This makes me want to buy a Telecaster! The same way that David Gilmour makes me want to play my Stratocaster.

His son playing guitar up front by Petty
does purple rain means anything ...? Prince could shred since his childhood/teenager years. You came too late to his world but welcome still
Whenever some says they didn’t know Prince could play like that, I point them to this performance for more.

Dhani Harrison wasn’t impress with Prince’s guitar playing and trash his performance. I guess Dhani thought his own performance was better LOL😂
The hate is real...we always know
Are you aware of your f-bombs? I feel slimed😊
Bro stop talking over the track especially right in the middle of the solo big turn off
