Rolling Stone Magazine left Prince off its top 100 guitarist list , he didn't know the song , and did little rehearsal with the group. He told them not to worry. Some of the judges from Rolling Stone are in the crowd. What an F you moment. Only Prince.
Prince knew the Beatles late, but it was right around the time of ‘Purple Rain’ and he showed it on ‘Around The World In A Day’. He was a big fan. He responded to the proposal to play this song with ‘I liked the idea, I'm going to listen to the song a few times and I'll let you (the event organisers) know’. In the words of the musicians present, he didn't rehearse a shit because the two times he started to play the solo, Marc Mann stepped over him: Prince didn't complain a word. Then Tom Petty, who was a friend of Prince, agreed with him to play the last solo. At that point Danny was going crazy, both for the moment and for the show. Petty told him not to worry because ‘it's just Prince doing a solo, what can go wrong...’. PS: Prince knew every name on the stage and their works. Steve Ferrone, the drummer, get close to Prince to say hi, Prince said "I know you". Minutes after, Ferrone hear a familiar riff from the stage: one from one of his songs played by Prince.
That’s what happens when you leave Prince off the list. He asked Tom to lay off the vocals some during his solo. I think everyone in that place was blown away with that performance. It’s top 10 solo in my books.
This song come off the Beatles White Album the double record that was released in 1968.. Great music on both records. Rest in Peace to George, Tom, and Prince . All 3 gone too soon.
There’s quite an interesting lore around this particular performance. Supposedly Prince had been omitted from a 2003 list published by Rolling Stone about the greatest guitarists of all time, just months prior to this performance. To top that off, reportedly George Harrison’s widow wasn’t thrilled with his participation in the event, as she thought his extravagant persona might take away from the focus being on George. Anyways, the story goes that every time Prince would show up to rehearse with the rest of the star-studded band, they would interrupt the session, or worse yet Jeff Lynne’s guitar player would just start playing the solo, note for note, like Clapton. And Prince would just stop and let him do it and play the rhythm, quietly strumming along. This went on for a couple practice sessions. According to Joel Gallen (producer and director of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony), Prince was not given the opportunity to even rehearse his solo. It got so tense that he supposedly had to step in and ask Prince if he wanted him to intervene, to which Prince just replied- “Don’t worry about it, I’ll deal with it”. What you see here is precisely how he dealt with it. Which explains his epic walkoff at the end, he just throws the guitar off in the air and walks off the stage like a boss. It was the ultimate “fuck all y’all” . Sadly he was gone way too soon.
I did learn that. We reacted to this around the same time as the other performances Prince throws his guitar, so some of the stuff I hadn't learned yet. This one also took 30 days of copyright disputes before I could release it

As someone else mentioned, Prince was inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame this same night. He performed a 20 minute set with his band earlier in the evening, but this performance gets all the attention, probably because of how many great musicians were involved. I find it sad that everyone knows of the ‘George Harrison tribute’ but not Prince’s own induction.

Prince was in high school in 1975, and not active. The Revolution were disbanded by the end of 1986, so they were not there in 2004. Steve Winwood is not known for being a "blues guitarist." In fact I have never heard him described as such and I've been a fan since 1980. Other than that, your intro was longer than it needed to be.
My thought process was Prince started with The Revolution so they would be there at the Induction Ceremony with him and there's a few musicians not listed anywhere so I had to make some guesses. Other than that, the intro is exactly as long as the intro needs to be
Lets give some love to Jeff Lynne....his vocals and harmony are amazing. Prince KILLS it here. Also, Dhani Harrison is a mirror image of his father, George.
You remember that episode of the Simpsons where the Yakuza show up and get into a fight and Homer points out that the little guy hasn't done anything yet so you *know* it's gonna be good when he does? Prince.
Oh I know, but my thought process was since Prince was inducted The Revolution played during the ceremony. But I learned it was just him. There were just some musicians performing I wasn't sure about is all
Winwood played lead organ. Traffic, which he fronted, is one of the best classic rock groups, ever. And Prince went solo (without his own band). And Prince could have, if he wished, played on that stage any instrument with vigor as he learned to play 19 different instruments and played most of them on songs he wrote.
Until this performance I don't think I had ever heard of Traffic and I am learning a little bit from the comments, which is awesome. And yeah Prince could easily solo this song, but it's awesome seeing all this amazing talent on stage
@AceofBadeReacts Traffic went dormant for a while, breaking up. They returned in the early 90s with vigor. They were the front performers for The Grateful Dead, the summer of their return to stage performances.
@@tenjed4224 I see. The Grateful Dead is another group that I've never heard any songs from. In fact the only thing I have to go by for them is a clip from Family Guy, and Stewie was on acid. Something about him trading his shirt for a grilled cheese, I think?
@AceofBadeReacts Stewie was on Shakedown Street during that scene. Shakedown Street is an unofficial area at nearly all Dead shows in the 80s and 90s where people could sell merchandise and secretly sell drgs. It is named after the song of the same name that is awesome in it's studio performance, while wickedly great live.
So here’s the real story behind Prince performing. Tom Petty and everyone else formed to perform the tribute to George Harrison who was inducted into the hall of fame along with Prince and others. Prince at the last minute asked to join the group to be part of the performance. He decided to do this brocade he had just read an article by Rolling Stone of the best 100 guitarists and Prince wasn’t included. This was his response to that. 😊 I love that he chose to use his trusted Hohner Mad Cat. That guitar has been with him since the beginning- 1978. 😊 FYI, The lean back was planned, his security guard was there to hold him up. Also his guitar tech caught the guitar. 😊
You have to react to Steve Winwood. I would start with Gimme Some Lovin' (The Spencer Davis Group), Winwood was the lead singer as a teenager, Roll With It, or Higher Love.

@davidmullens7565 it’s sad that this performance became all about Prince. George Harrison, or his gorgeous song, is rarely mentioned in the majority of these reactions. Most don’t even read the complete title, never mention George’s name, or know who’s being inducted. Just waiting to see Prince. George and the others are acknowledged in this one, but they still came across as a side note. A stage full of true rock legends deserve better❤️❤️❤️
My dude. you need to chill out for a sec. Prince was inducted, I see other musicians outside of Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, and Dhanni Harrison. The whole performance is just amazing.
@@kali550 exactly, know one talks about that.
To be fair I don't know much about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, much less that they did multiple performances during the ceremony
@@AceofBadeReactsUnderstood.
Hopefully this is part of the fun of doing these reactions, u get a lot of different info from people with different interests, once u are in the same lane they’re in. Thanks for the response!
@@kali550 Oh that's half the fun is learning from everyone. Only 2% of the fun is dealing with trolls. The other 48% is doing the reactions themselves either by myself or with other streaming friends
The history of this is worth looking into
Prince was in high school in 1975, and not active.
Everything about this performance is just so good
Love this one, always makes me laugh and sad at the same time. We lost so many greats. Have a good one y'all, look after each other.
You remember that episode of the Simpsons where the Yakuza show up and get into a fight and Homer points out that the little guy hasn't done anything yet so you *know* it's gonna be good when he does?
Prince.
I actually don't watch a lot of TV, but I can definitely imagine
Prince didn't have the Revolution as his backing band since 1986, years before. This was in 2004, 18 years later.
Oh I know, but my thought process was since Prince was inducted The Revolution played during the ceremony. But I learned it was just him. There were just some musicians performing I wasn't sure about is all
That is a 1959 Fender Telecaster. He didn't throw it. Some type of lift was involved. Then the Pimp walk....Prince Rodgers Nelson is the real deal.
Yeah we learned later on someone always is there to catch it and Prince during these performances
Check out the heart performance at the Kennedy Center Honers singing Led Zeppelin song stairway to heaven
I actually did react to that. Be sure to check it out
Steve windwood was on the organ.
Steve is on the keys
Nice reaction my friend, if you haven't reacted to "America" Prince 1985 Live soon 💜😊
It has been added to the list
I love that he chose to use his trusted Hohner Mad Cat. That guitar has been with him since the beginning- 1978. 😊
FYI, The lean back was planned, his security guard was there to hold him up. Also his guitar tech caught the guitar. 😊
I wonder if Rolling Stone Magazine had some regrets after this performance?
You have to react to Steve Winwood. I would start with Gimme Some Lovin' (The Spencer Davis Group), Winwood was the lead singer as a teenager, Roll With It, or Higher Love.
I think I might have to
❤️👍💯

Notice Prince creepin while he plays. I think that solo got a few people pregnant
I had to take a test after this reaction
Most of the other people in the band are the members of Tom Petty's band the HEARTBREAKERS.
😂😂
Rory who? you mean that oasis guy?
I don't think Rory Gallagher related to Liam or Noel. Rory Gallagher is an Irish guitarist and has been nicknamed "The Greatest Guitarist You've Never Heard Of". I've reacted to a few of his performances. Definitely worth checking out

Stop 🛑 sating the Revolution! None of those people are there. These are real rock superstars! Jeff Lynne is sharing vocals with Petty. His guitarist from the Heartbreakers, Mike Campbell is on lead guitar until Prince comes in. Dhanni, George's son is playing rhythm along with Petty. Steve Winwood is on the keyboard. I know your generation is lazy, but geez ... Just do 60 seconds before you start spouting out erroneous, incorrect information and opinion.... Come on man!
I hear you but ...Lets give them SOME grace...LOL btw have you seen the frank zappa performance of watermelon at easter hay? Beautiful piece of art.
I was guessing that Prince and the Revolution were playing together because that was his first major group from what I have been learning. I have learned I was mistaken. And FYI, we did research before we hit play to figure out who was playing what, but there were still musicians that weren't named.
That's why we took the time to name as many performers as we could on here. Everybody here did a phenomenal job and did the song justice. Prince elevated the performance
I haven't yet. It's been a minute since I checked out Frank Zappa
