This seems like an exceptional value, with an impressive interior and features, reasonable exterior size but with a generous wheelbase for room and stability, and styling I can probably get used to. Quite tempting. I look forward to hearing driving impressions.
Cadillac starts with their maximum battery capacity version (just like Tesla does with the Model Y in the US, offering only long range and performance, so far). The Ultium plattform would offer more options with less capacity (and less range), at an even cheaper price. A 75 kWh battery pack (roughly 230 miles of range) would be possible as well.
@@koeniglicher How do we know that this is their long range version? I have heard rumors that there is going to be a 400 mi for a much higher price with even more chrome and lights.
@@midnight4109 At presentation of Ultium 400 platform (note the 400, which refers to 400 volts), there was room for 12 modules to be fitted into the battery pack (see GM presentation). The 100.4 kWh gross / 94.4 kWh net battery likely uses all 12 of them (this is my educated guess, it may be wrong), and therefore would be comprised of 288 cells = 12 modules of 24 cells each in a 96s3p configuration. Up to 400 miles of range was a promise for the Ultium 800 (note 800, which refers to 800 volts) platform, which takes up to 24 modules, and therefore 200 kWh, as it contains two layers of modules, and therefore doubles volume and weight of the battery pack. This platform was only to be used for the heavy SUVs like Hummer EV, Silverado, Escalade. Back to the 400 volts platform: Of course, Cadillac may offer an 400 miles Lyriq in some future, but that would require quite some effort: either a larger battery pack cramping in more modules (with implication on design of the car body and pack assembly), or internal reorganization of the pack like an even more cell to pack design, or using cells with higher energy density which needs their cell supplier LGChem to change their production, or drastic improvements on drag and rolling resistance to reduce consumption and therefore to get more miles from the same battery pack capacity. In case this 100 kWh battery pack was composed from only 9 modules to achieve 300 miles of range, then they could easily add 3 more and achieve around 400 miles. We will only know for sure, once there is more public information of these battery packs: cell count for a given capacity, cell capacity, wiring scheme, tear down of battery pack.
The Lyriq looks beautiful, and I see a lot of features that I like very much. What I am not seeing anywhere is HUD, roof rails or heated rear seat being available. To me... these are a must. I'm not even sure they have vented front seats.

Great intro coverage Tom. Key point here is what a driver is using vehicle distance wise in daily usage. Long distance Tesla tough to beat. Intown driver going to pay more attention to interior comfort and Cadillac may have the edge here.
I am seriously considering a Lyriq to replace my early Model S which has no driver enhancements. Thanks for the walkaround. I'm really interested and the $7.5 tax credit would make me a buyer if s few essential questions can be answered. First - will Cadillac entertain trade-ins or other points that I'm used to? I've been buying high-end vehicles for years (currently own a 2018 Lincoln and a 2020 Lexus) but never have paid sticker. Always had the infamous haggling drama with the dealership. Next - considering recharge anxiety for long trips (currently 2-3 per year) will there be a way to "reserve" a charging station or would I need to take my chances and get at the back of the line?? Finally, what's the warranty for bumper-to-bumper and the batteries?
Pretty weird that it doesn't have a frunk given the front end has plenty of potential for one; wonder what the Sandy Munro's Lean Design crew would make of it?
Frunk lost due to actual on board charger behind port. And soon a second front motor for awd. I saw future ext colors, tint coat Blue, white and deep red -nice. Expect 0 to 60 rwd high 5s, awd in 4s. 100 amp home circuit for fastest recharge. I need a rooftop ski rack or rocket box in winter for 4 guys skiing. Front motor is smaller so cannot be too much more $. Small trailer 4-5 k lbs., but kills range.
Stunning Caddi, I love it!! I owned a Cadillac about 15-years ago that was in mint condition and it was the smoothest, highest-quality car I've ever seen or owned, but it sucked a TON of gas. I sold it mainly because it was a gas hog, to an elderly couple who loved it. I'd buy a Lyriq in a minute.
Bought my first Caddy in 1978. Seville, black on silver. My '94 STS was pretty good on the gas. Averaged 29 mpg on the freeway. But my Volt averages 200 mpg E plus gas when gas is at its' current price. 120 mpg when gas is at a normal price. I've been a plug in guy since 2011. If this Caddy sells for the projected price of $60,000, I will buy it. BUT we all know how that goes. By the time it comes out, it will be $80 grand. Bolt is probably my next car.
@Saablives read my comment. GM lost all future business from me after they shut down SAAB. (I owned 5 Caddy’s and 7 SAABs). They are a day late, and $1 short.
Same price as Y? looks worth much much more than a Y, inside in particular. looks matter! Y would be in serious trouble, if more upmarket looking, yet reasonably priced BEV stuff like this came to fruition, with volume.
Great video. Signed up for mine middle of December. Cadillac Salesperson said to expect one in June? With all of Tesla’s QC issues at time of delivery, Lyric will be a game changer. Cadillac has been making Auto’s for far more years than Tesla. At $59K it looks like a bargain

My Dad was a huge Cadillac fan, owning so many sedans, SUV's etc. I have lost count. This is the car that COULD save GM, it's so beautiful and priced so well -- the only thing is CAN General Motors make enough for market demand? (I know my Dad would buy one!)
I have been driving a GMC Yukon for the last 6 years and plan to attempt to trade it in for a purchase of the Lyriq once it opens again for ordering....the reservations filled up so fast last time
In place of a frunk is there basically what Munro might call a legacy parts bin kludge? If anything like that, does it suffer from lack of microchip integration among key components that hampers or precludes OTAUs?
Very well explained. You provided information that I was looking for that I could not get anywhere else. I think this car is a steal at $60k, given that its fully loaded except for the wheels. The only thing is that I will need to wait for the AWD version.
I like that the Model Y is more of a technology vehicle, and the interior doesn't look like a strip joint :) But I'm super stoked that Cadillac is going electric! More EV choices is great.
In the storage area under the HVAC controls can you store a pair of sunglasses? And does the panoramic glass roof have a shade? Manual or power? Will Lyriq offer mangeride 3 or 4 ?
I’m surprised that I like the front end of the Lyric, but I do. It seems like a great value although I would have to wait for AWD living in New Jersey.
With the competition heating up in this segment, I think its going to come down to peak charging speeds and the reliability of the two charging technologies. Perhaps a comparison between Supercharging and CSS on a long trip using comparable vehicles , so we can gauge how the two charging types compete against each other on speed, reliability, convenience and availability.
Peak charging speed means nothing. Average charging speed is what is important. And even more so the range added over time. The question will be what is a reasonable time for a stop and how much range should be added in that time. I think 200 miles of range in 30mins is very reasonable.
I think people won't be chasing absolute charging speed. It's important to a point. But people want styling/packaging choices. Unless refreshed soon, big Frog, little frog sales will slow, when more stylish/better built choices become easily available.
@@erikstephens34 Totally agree, Peak charging is nothing more than theater and bragging rights. Miles per minute is what we want and hopefully will see those numbers increase as the tech improves.

Shouldn’t be any reason you couldn’t do road trips with a 300 mile range non-Tesla EV. The EV6 set the record for least amount of time charging on the trip across the US.

Good video. Im willing to give Cadillac/GMC a chance over Telsa. Test driving a Tesla has been disappointing. Cheap interior, loud road noise. Questionable build quality. Seems these issues have been addressed with the Lyriq.

You shouldn't say $59,990 because no dealer will sell them for that.. just like ford is battling dealerships now that are adding an additional $10,000 markup to the mustang Mach E
Won't know for the Lyriq until customers get them. Meanwhile I pay 10.5 cents/kWh for overnight charging at home, and (averaged over the most recent 800 miles) I get 4.0 miles/kWh in my 2019 Bolt EV Premier. That comes to 2.5 cents a mile or 40 miles per dollar. If you gas car gets 24 mpg and you're paying $6/gal in CA today that comes to 4 miles per dollar or exactly ten times as expensive. Also, we know based on images of the GMC Hummer EV that the Ultium battery will maintain fairly fast charging speed well into the higher battery levels. Based on those images, we know that the 200 kWh Hummer EV battery averages >140 kW from ~50% to ~80% on a 150 kW charger.
the long digital screen looks the same as lucid .
I love this format and hope to see more of the deep dive in upcoming shows. 👍👌
I understand that the computerization is ahead of Tesla and it wouldn't be hard to beat them on interior and overall quality which GM has a better track record with. The new gov't programs are supposed to cover union made vehicles. Besides, do I sound like the kind of guy who would drive a Volkswagen?
Impressive coming from GM. You are correct. No AWD for that price is a non-starter.
Why has it got a great flat bricklike front end to push through the air has it got a massive frunck?
It looks enormous.
Lol that’s what she said 😂🤣
Pretty weird that it doesn't have a frunk given the front end has plenty of potential for one; wonder what the Sandy Munro's Lean Design crew would make of it?
lost opportunity.
Well , the less quirks and features they put in the car , the more room it will have.
Hard to please everyone .
@@richardovens5208 I think they could have easily had a frunk, but I think their research decided it was unnecessary in this class of vehicle.
Wow- cadilac IS leading the world in electric mobility!
Great video
@Saablives read my comment. GM lost all future business from me after they shut down SAAB. (I owned 5 Caddy’s and 7 SAABs). They are a day late, and $1 short.
Same price as Y? looks worth much much more than a Y, inside in particular. looks matter! Y would be in serious trouble, if more upmarket looking, yet reasonably priced BEV stuff like this came to fruition, with volume.
keep up the good work. i loveeeee this suv. and the vedeo you showed made me fall in love even more. the Caddy is way more sportier
All electric cars should have an accessible frunk space. Ford, Tesla, and Lucid can do it. Why GM, VW, and Mercedes refuse to do it is beyond me.
NICE car! Thanks.
It looks *COOL* It reminds me to purchase it in the future then ! Thanks for your update info !!! 👍💖👍
I can’t wait to see in person and in reviews! Only Tesla and GM are operating the way makers should be making EVs! No more Tax Credit CRACK!!
Love your channel, Tom --- IMHO this new Cadillac EV is beautiful! The attention to detail + interior quality is absolutely amazing. My Dad was a huge Cadillac fan, owning so many sedans, SUV's etc. I have lost count. This is the car that COULD save GM, it's so beautiful and priced so well -- the only thing is CAN General Motors make enough for market demand? (I know my Dad would buy one!)
I like this car
I have been driving a GMC Yukon for the last 6 years and plan to attempt to trade it in for a purchase of the Lyriq once it opens again for ordering....the reservations filled up so fast last time
In place of a frunk is there basically what Munro might call a legacy parts bin kludge? If anything like that, does it suffer from lack of microchip integration among key components that hampers or precludes OTAUs?
Totally agree with you about the current tax credit situation.
Tech? Y does not have Lidar or Radar, the Lyriq can have the exterior toned down. For me Y is way too small.
Someone has been spending too much time at the strip club .
Get those images out of your head . . . Pronto ! 🤪
Do you think it’s wise to purchase the 19.2kwh eves vs the portable 7.7kwh if you have a 240v outlet? Anticipate driving 50-100 miles/day.
In the storage area under the HVAC controls can you store a pair of sunglasses? And does the panoramic glass roof have a shade? Manual or power? Will Lyriq offer mangeride 3 or 4 ?
From the LYRIQ website: “Fixed-glass roof with power interior shade”
I’m surprised that I like the front end of the Lyric, but I do. It seems like a great value although I would have to wait for AWD living in New Jersey.
The long hood looks great. However it’s disappointing it doesn’t have a frunk, especially for rwd model. I wonder what’s underneath the hood.
Buy some Michelin CrossClimate 2s and you will be all good. That said $60k is steep for 2WD.
@@mickzed6393 Style will continue to become less of a priority as robo taxi and FSD heat up. Power won't even be that important. It's hard to fathom since for decades humans have associated their identity with the car they drive, but that's all going away. Priority will be entertainment in the vehicle you are being transported in.
@@MeursaultYT Style/individuality/expression will always be in fashion, especially amongst cars and large scale ( or any meaning full ) robo/fsd are just a wet dream atm. Large parts of the car world are barely aware of BEV lol
I was fortunate to get in on September 18th and reserve the 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ. It looks terrific in it commercials but want to see it first hand. I know the 22' wheels are a option for $2,000.00 and I was told by Cadillac that Super Cruise come standard in it. But what other options are there?. I live in Florida and don't need to have a duel motor vehicle. I would much rather the extra driving range. The Bill that the House passed just (subject to change) before Thanksgiving the Cadillac LYRIQ would get up to $12,500.00 that would bring the price down to $47,500.00 to me it a no brainier. I love Tesla technology but they come way short on looks and fun to drive.
Also Elon Musk said he will be opening up his supercharging network to all EV's and not just Tesla vehicles . He has already starting this process in some parts in Europe.
I know that there will be a ton of new EV's coming out it 2022 but for now it looks like Cadillac LYRIQ is a winner. Time will tell.
I was Very Lucky to have been able to secure a reservation but I just realized something! Car Dealers have been Charging ABOVE MRSP due to chip shortage and thereby high demand. What are they really going to charge for this car, also considering they KNOW we are going to get a $12,500 refundable tax credit as well?!?!?!?!
I was fortunate enough to receive a debut edition reservation. Isnt dealership markup a given? I was shopping a Nissan Leaf the other day with a dealership markup of $3500.
@@wormwood70 update: I just left the dealer and the market adjustment was 10k over msrp. I'll take it because I think its worth more considering the shortage.
@@aces08 they should not be charging you above MRSP for the Debut Edition. GM has sent notices about that. See if you can change your dealer. Mine is honoring the price. Should I cancel my reservation, they’re free to add the adjustment
@@FtheDiamond oh yes I changed dealers and the new dealer agreed to only charge msrp
This is the ev for me. I like the rivian r1s, too, but it'd be another 10-15k.
Seeing you standing next to it, it’s much larger then I thought it was going to be.
I can't wait to Munroe Live tear into the Lyriq. Currently RWD only, but still NO FRUNK! What is under the hood?
It's like pulling teeth waiting for this guy to get to the point in this 15 minute video with 5 minutes of information.
There are timestamps in the description so you can jump directly to the points you're looking for. Also, you can set the video speed to 2X - I do that all the time.
Looks great - shame it's not available in the UK.
Tom, please provide the view of the outbound visibility from the driver's seat.
Nice Cadi!
As a bolt owner I do hope the Lyriq also supports one pedal driving. I imagine it will. I'm looking forward to nabbing one of these used for $20k off 😂
Same here but I don’t use one pedal driving….
Positive thoughts !!
There are going to be doing well just like GM did with the bolt?
Blows away Tesla! Better battery tech better quality fantastic prices much better customer service!
I wonder if those wheels are the optional 22" wheel package that's available for an additional charge.🤭
Yeah, are those included at the price of $59,990? I don't think he covered that in the video.
OK, I get what you're doing there. You're right to say so. :)
20 inch rims come with the $59,900 price tag. The 22" add $1600.
I was about to put a deposit reservation when the pre-order open but after reading it was not an AWD as the launch edition. I cancel my progress of reservation.
How did it do in wind tunnel tests?!!!!
I wish they were offering a Lyriq sedan as I don’t want a big SUV. I tried to order a 2022 Lincoln MKZ sedan, but Lincoln has stopping selling sedans.
Shouldn’t be any reason you couldn’t do road trips with a 300 mile range non-Tesla EV. The EV6 set the record for least amount of time charging on the trip across the US.
I didn't see the two connections for the DC charger. It looked like it just had a J1772 socket, not the CSS. Am I missing something?
The fast charging connection usually has an additional cover on it, and this seems to be no exception.
300 mile range is only for RWD, the huge rims on that model probably reduces the range too. I'm shocked people aren't reviewing this car yet. Your video is one of the first I've seen. So congrats on that
GM usually very conservative with range.
Good video. Im willing to give Cadillac/GMC a chance over Telsa. Test driving a Tesla has been disappointing. Cheap interior, loud road noise. Questionable build quality. Seems these issues have been addressed with the Lyriq.
tesla is all about software and range , nothing else .
I don't know, we will see. When do you expect to be able to test drive a Lyriq?
How does it compare in size... interior and exterior
that front area is so huge, why no frunk? Lot of folks over look the frunk as they don't need it, but I absolutely love my frunk on my model 3 and want it in all my cars going forward. The rest of this car is nice, cant wait to see it in person.
What's is in the hood area of not space??
Lyriq does have a storage area in front! I see it in the flesh on Guangzhou Autoshow 2021
No, it doesn't. That's confirmed directly by Cadillac. They even explained why it doesn't have one.
Hmm.......Not bad so far!
Bmw needs to take a page from this. The design is nice
I like the BMW iX. I like its interior a lot better and besides the grill, the exterior isn't bad either. But it is considerably more expensive.
You shouldn't say $59,990 because no dealer will sell them for that.. just like ford is battling dealerships now that are adding an additional $10,000 markup to the mustang Mach E
Very nice
Nice looking and price seems good
Would love to know what it cost to operate .How does electric compare to gas ?
Won't know for the Lyriq until customers get them. Meanwhile I pay 10.5 cents/kWh for overnight charging at home, and (averaged over the most recent 800 miles) I get 4.0 miles/kWh in my 2019 Bolt EV Premier. That comes to 2.5 cents a mile or 40 miles per dollar. If you gas car gets 24 mpg and you're paying $6/gal in CA today that comes to 4 miles per dollar or exactly ten times as expensive. Service is much simpler too.
Hey Tom, do you have any vids with a black lyriq?
No, I haven't seen one in person yet.
how does it not have a frunk what are they putting up there then?
Is there any information on towing with a Lyriq?
Power port on the front right quarter panel?
So much nicer interior than the cheap Tesla interior, but then again, the Bolt has a nicer interior than a Tesla.
So what happens when the leds on the grill start dieing?
Take it to the shop like any other repair lol.
There is an improved version of the Model Y coming soon. Rumor has it that the production version of the Lyriq is going to be available in different trim levels with option packages and no one is talking about what the pricing will be for a well equipped version. Cadillac offers basic models which seem reasonably priced before adding in features most of us would want. We will see.
300 plus miles, I'd bet 360 miles in good weather flat hwy driving. Not winter, mountains, or blazing hot.
