Absolutely one of the best cars I've seen released love it, already pre-ordered. My thoughts exactly almost the same price as every other fancy electric car and this one actually feels high quality

Awesome video, glad smartphones have advanced to the point that I wouldn't have noticed it if weren't for the filming style.
Wow, very very nice looking car. I want one 😢 I have a Model Y, and although I really enjoy the minimalistic part of it, I also really like the premium stuff this car has. Those speakers on the headrest, the massage seats with the ventilation..man...
New subscriber, and months later I have to comment. No way I can afford any of these cars in the near future, but I'm enjoying your very clear but honest reviews of these EVs. This is key to acceptance, at least for me it is, vs. "reviews" from fanbois (and grrls). While I appreciate what Tesla has done advancing EVs, I prefer actual cars *that just happen to be electric* and the experience of actually driving them vs. tech taking control and drivers sleeping on the road of life. Like the Hummer and other GMs, it has actual "touch" controls all around, not controls limited to a flat center console screen. This Lyriq is absolutely gorgeous (design simplicity = luxury), so thanks for letting us experience it!
Would have been cool to mention that the screen is actually one continuous display. It's a big deal since this has been the end-goal for so many automakers, and the Lyriq is the first to do it.
It’s actually not really. Just like in the Escalade and EQS, it’s really one large display broken up into three separate parts. This is why two parts are touchscreen and one is not.
Thanks so much for the quick review. Love this car and that Blue is sick! Did you get a chance to drive it? Any changes compared to the 2023? Looks like maybe the grill changed a little. Definitely liked the change to the door handles. Thanks Again! 🙂
I appreciate the HONEST review. He is spot on related to the Lyriq and his comparison to the Model Y. I saw his video, drove both the same day and drove the Lyriq home that weekend. Love it.
So that back hatch sloping part is not mainly for storage. The main reason is to minimise drag and maximising range. Then being able to do that and having more storage there meant they could get away with no frunk. Also the best combination and implementation of touch screen and manual controls I’ve seen in an EV.
Yes I would love to see a scale model in a water tunnel to see exactly where the flow goes on the back side of the car. This shape looks really good for defeating lift at the rear end of the car and still having a good streamlined shape.
Minor note: I like how some EVs do NOT have frunks, because they move all the HVAC hardware to the motor bay, increasing interior volume. And if they can still manage to fit a small storage bin under the hood as opposed to a large frunk, it's a great spot for emergency equipment.
I mean not really. Tesla Model 3 for example is the exact same design before and after the heat pump, you just lost a couple of inches of frunk space. It still has a pretty big frunk with the heat pump there.
At this price point, GM really knocked this out of the park. It's competing with much more expensive EVs (when you consider what's in the 60k-ish range). The AWD version with 500hp is going to be the way to go.
2:44 back in the early '90s and before, the Cadillac logo on the trunk lid concealed a keyhole for opening the trunk. this is a cool update of that quirk
Can you please add a review on highway autopilot function? It's becoming an increasingly important part of the car experience considering Tesla does it so well.
Cadillac for the win. I like it, looks fantastic in the rear, sorry Marques but I like the lights in the front at night. I would buy this over the Tesla for sure... 👍🏻😁
I would love to have known how fast the charging times are. That's very important in this day and age. For example, I was looking at the Subaru Soltera and IMMEDIATELY rejected the possibility of buying it when I found out it takes an entire hour to charge it from 0-80% and a fast charger. That's just nuts.
Don't consider a battery-car unless you can charge at home. Not only time and hassle, but public chargers can be costlier than fueling a gas car. Some Tesla Superchargers in CA are now priced at 65 c/kWh peak hours.
@@williamgrissom9022 I still think battery electric cars are going to flop somewhat. Unless you own a place with a private garage, there is no economical and convenient way to charge.
This is exactly what I am looking for. I drive 150 miles per day round trip so I need luxuory with little road noise. I was in my friends model Y and it had to much plastic for my liking, the interior of the Lyriq looks so much better imo. I dont care about sport mode I just need ride quality and low road noise. Thanks for the review, appreciate it.
The Lyric isn't very efficient, so 150 miles is going to be about 60 kWhr, more if you need the heating on or are driving quickly. This will take about 10 hours of charging each night on a good home charger, perhaps more. If you don't have 12 hours to charge from the time you get in to the time you leave then I would consider something more efficient.
No problem, it doesn't come up too much because it's only an issue for repeated long journeys like yours or regular medium journeys in very inefficient vehicles, i.e. electric trucks.
@@blackh0l353He is not telling you the truth. The Lyriq can charge up to 30% in 10 minutes and on the SUPERCHARGER can charge a full 90% in less than 2 hours. Also get a home charger but if you want to know what the Lyriq could do than talk to the people that built the Lyriq, not to this dude who most likely doesn't own one by the way he's talking incorrectly. It was actually built for efficiency 😊 Best wishes
Just got a call from the dealer I selected during my preorder. They want another 1000 down and told me there will be at least a 10000 markup in 2024 when I can possibly get mine. Just checked with Cadillac chat and they say that they are allowing dealers to charge what they want. It may be a good car, but it won't be 60k! Just received my lighting and I was treated much better by ford. I guess I will be waiting anyway I'm sure Lincoln will have something like it soon.
Great video! Pretty reasonable price for that car given that something like the ID buzz might come out around the same price, and this is a Cadillac so yeah definitely going to have build quality down
I really like GM's Ultium system. Using one system across all models greatly simplifies things. I like that the batteries can be repaired if need be. GM has a lot of experience with EVs and it shows. I own a modest little Chevy Bolt and am waiting for the Equinox EV.
I really hope so. I like Cadillac. I'm waiting to see it in the real world in real quantities tho. GM has a habit of overpromising, underdelivering, all the while telling you not to park your car in your garage for fear of your house burning down. This behemoth of a company won't change overnight.
@@sports2hedz542 Between Hyundai and GM, LG has spent $4 billion dollars replacing batteries, including the battery in my Bolt. That kind of money has a way of focusing your attention on quality. My Bolt at 50k miles has been trouble free except for the battery recall and a software update.
Was lucky enough to drive one a couple weeks back and I really liked it. One of my concerns with this car is the pouch batteries being used for these cars. This was the same style battery they had issues with years ago. GM apparently corrected their issues now but it remains to be seen.
They can change the batterietype in the future if there are better batteries!Soon you can convert your gasguzzer to electric to,and you decide how big the batteriepack should be!

Great video - one problem as a reservation holder from day one, the dealerships have asked for an additional $5k up front deposit on top of the $1k deposit made plus a $15k dealer markup. The price comparison to a Model Y is not accurate since I would be purchasing the car close to $80k IF we agreed to the dealers term. You might want to mention that in future videos. Thanks for the video - great work on the review.
in the near future the dealerships will be no longer, you will he able to purchase directly from the manufacture via online.. The manufacture will have service centers in cities/towns. $80k is a bit too expensive for this car especially since there are no climate controls for rear passengers. For $80k to $100k might as well look into buying a BMW iX or Audi eTron if you're going electric. If going combustion, get a Range Rover for $80k.
My current car is a Tesla, my previous car was a Cadillac. IMO, Cadillac is far superior in almost every way, just at the time I got the Tesla Cadillac didn’t have an all electric car yet.
"Will Tesla figure out luxury or will luxury figure out software first" -MKBHD Looks like luxury is making real strides in fixing their software, I just hope that this will filter down to cheaper GM brands, they seem like the only brand that wants to make the mythical 25k electric car.
GM has really turned around post bailout… I’m quite interested in seeing where they go as they continue to make more electric vehicles. Everything they’ve been putting out for the last few years has been quite impressive and definitely underrated (probably because of their historic reputation). It’s exciting seeing real competition in the automotive industry again!
The problem with this quote is that Tesla's mission was never about figuring out luxury. If it was they would have slowed down production and focused on build quality. Also, they would have sacrifice gross profit and add more features to their cars.... Tesla just wants to flood the market EV before the competition. Once they do that, they can pull the profit margin lever and lower prices and/or add features like adaptive suspension, cool seats, extra displays, ect... Legacy auto has no manufacturing advantage making EVs so they have to try to wow ppl with extra features and sacrifice profit, just to get attention...
@@Teddy_M85 I'm not sure I agree with your opinion, especially where you say "Legacy auto has no manufacturing advantage making EVs so they have to try to wow ppl with extra features and sacrifice profit, just to get attention". Every car manufacturer right now that is releasing EVs to the market is bringing something that Tesla isn't and that is build quality and tech features. The only area that Tesla has a real advantage is in the software for their cars which is obviously really advanced especially in the "self-driving" aspect. Other than that though, Tesla offers nothing else of value to most people, unless the person buying an EV prefers that ultra minimalistic style.
@@ProXcaliber I agree Tesla's build quality is not as good as it should be. But it's largely overblown and has improved tremendously. I had a brand new Benz before my Tesla and it had plenty of build issues which I only noticed after I heard about the Tesla issues right before I traded it in. No car is perfect but build quality is mainly cosmetic and easy to fix. I haven't seen any major Tesla recall in recent history. Toyota, GM and Ford has seen far more recalls this year alone, while Tesla fixes the recalls with an over the air update.... Tesla is choosing not add the "high tech" features you might be thinking of. GM is not designing these "high tech" options, they purchase them from a catalog. Tesla can do the same but demand is high enough that they don't need to. They are actually removing parts, i.e. Ultrasonic sensors... Legacy OEM has not been able to ramp production because they can't. Too much ICE infrastructure to convert to EV. It will take time... Look at the Mach E sales, they started production a few months after the Model Y, and don't even bother to look at GM sales, especially the Hummer. I like Caddy, but they have ways to go... Massage seats, speakers and displays every where, is not an advantage, GM is just choosing to lose money on every car they sell. Tesla isn't... Software is clearly an advantage for Tesla but the supercharger network is head and shoulders above the comp. Consumers that do their research know this and are choosing Tesla for this reasons alone. If you care more about gimmicky lights, massage seats, ect. get a Caddy or a MB...

Alot of the style design was really bad the chips we got to run it wasn’t that great. Also, alot of weird decisions. That’s about it. Really cool and sleek car with a pretty affordable price tag
Seems like a pretty good car from Cadillac. The inclusion of some physical buttons are definitely a plus. Looks are a little strange in the back, and I personally would prefer automakers make more sedans rather than SUVs or weird-looking crossovers. Especially for efficiency and safety, not to mention affordability. Large battery packs also use a lot more materials, which could have gone to making part of a battery for a smaller vehicle.
I agree with what you say, but automakers won't go back to making sedans soon. People want SUVs these days, so the car companies will go wherever the demand brings them.

Good honest review. Like the details on the issues with AA. The Escalade comment was interesting. The RWD Lyriq weighs around 5,600lbs; about what an Escalade weighs now. Regarding the Sport Mode, you'll have to wait for the AWD Lyriq due in 1Q23 for something a bit quicker. Here are the Specs on the AWD from GM China: 710 Nm of torque (approx. 524 lb-ft) 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 4.9 seconds. RWD around 6.3 sec. Top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph) AWD range converted from the Chinese test data is 287 miles. AWD uses the same 100KW battery pack and that drop is similar to what you see in the Mach-e AWD variant. He did not mention that the AWD is $65K, including shipping, that it will have GM Supercruise via an OTA and you are given a $1500 allowance for either mobile charging or installing a charger at your home. Hoping that it qualifies for the new '23 EV credit of $7500 and it makes the Lyriq a really good buy.
The Lyriq after January 1 should qualify for the EV credit but not sure how they’ll work it into a lease. Was told by SA that it might be a prorated rebate. Was told that it’ll also have the surround view dashcams similar to Tesla. Just wondering if they’ll have streaming apps such as Netflix, UA-cam etc on App Store

Marques has added reviewing electric cars to his arsenal along with what he already does so seamlessly. 🙌🏼
It boggles my mind how he's simultaneously one of the best ultimate frisbee players in the world :)
Im a really enjoying this channel so far. Also the Lyriq looks like an incredible vehicle. I think it pretty much nails the line between sport and luxury for me with the emphasis more on luxury. Ive done enough sport to last me a lifetime. Keep the content coming!

I agree, not everyone wants sport. I had fun with my clk 430 turbo convertible and my 330 ci BMW convertible but my preference is a luxury feel vs sport.
its good to see a nice display/software experience on a new car, and also not have it replace all the physical buttons. thats a win for everyone tbh. now the door handles... lets just stop with two touch to entry.
Agreed on the door handles. Why so complicated?
100%, the door handles are another EV answer to a problem no one was having. Everything else looks great
ikr, lets design them to look just like theres a reg door handle there....but not operate in the same way! just causes a delay in an emergency if u ask me
Correction, You can set the max charge level in the Lyriq, it's in the Charging app that you went into at the 9:25 mark... you are looking right at it. Just move the little circle counter clockwise.
this is definitely not for me, but the roads are gonna be covered in some great looking cars. I like how brands are starting to embrace actually futuristic design
Thank Tesla for that. GM and Ford would never have gotten off their @ss and done anything like this if it wasn't for Elon pushing the envelope.

MKBHD is keeping his options open for electric car reviewer, tech reviewer. Podcast and in so many other areas.
We had a 2016 SRX that we loved but unfortunately was totaled. I've had my eye on a Model S but this is looking pretty good. Nice review! I love how straight up honest you are about these cars.
Test drive both, I'm pretty sure you'll go for Model S.
Get the Cadillac lyriq it’s way more practical than the model S
The only thing going for the models is teslas charging infrastructure
Cadillac really does make strikingly beautiful car silhouettes.
Cadillacs have always been built very well, its the luxury car of GM. Like the CTS-V's are so underrated
I bought one a week ago, absolutely love it! go buy one, you will NOT be disappointed!
I always love how balanced your reviews are. Maybe it’s just me, but it’s like you know what truly matters to the average consumer. Thanks for another good one!
Agreed!!
I had a chance to borrow an xt4 for a week and I was surprised I really enjoyed it and I am performance car enthusiast. I feel like Cadillac going electric is a good fit with the current design language. This looks a lot like the gas cars. No birds chirping, in dash games, etc to draw you in. I hope the follow up vehicles keep with this theme of styling.
what car do you own
yep. in 9/2024 I traded in my wife’s 2014 toyota highlander for a new 2024 Cadillac XT4…love it!
my other car is a 2017 corvette with stick.
having to push the "door handle" and then move my hand to grab that piece bellow the window to pull the door open which makes that the actual door handle technically immediately annoys me that I can't unlatch and pull open the door in one action
Indeed. Now Mach-E door opening is only the second most impractical.
my exact reaction! why add unnecessary extra steps. the "door handle" is just a glorified button. why not out it behind where you actually hold to open so you could unlock and open at the same time, without the song and dance
Better than the Tesla's
My understanding is that Cadillac plans to change that in 2024 models.
The 2024 Lyriq will have more traditional pop out door handles.
Absolutely one of the best cars I've seen released love it, already pre-ordered. My thoughts exactly almost the same price as every other fancy electric car and this one actually feels high quality
I like that gm understands that just because its a ev doesnt mean you have to get rid of buttons
Personal preference, that grille and headlights are amazing. Same goes for the vibration on the chair for the blind spots, that’s a great safety feature.
Diggin' the butt vibes 🤫
I love the cube lights. They look like diamonds to me.
With electric cars being the future I think MKBHD is in a perfect place to lead his UA-cam career in another direction with this channel giving his tech background. I can see him and this channel being one of the go to channels that EV auto manufacturers go to in the future to predict consumer wants and trends.
This channel needs work tho. For example it feels like I'm looking at him more than the car. This vlog type recording ain't doing it rn

I like this dude and so do millions of his followers but he did not tell us about the battery in terms of kilowatts, nor did he speak about charging speeds, horsepower, suspension, warranty etc...
The quality of these videos keep getting better and better with each video. I can't believe this was shot on an iPhone. You really are a great videographer and editor. I wouldn't be able to make my phone look this good

EQS enters the chat
@@RossMKF1 the EQS has three separate screens that share one glass cover.

They've really done an excellent job here with the new technology and making things look good and pleasing ton the eye as well as being user friendly.
Minor note: I like how some EVs do NOT have frunks, because they move all the HVAC hardware to the motor bay, increasing interior volume. And if they can still manage to fit a small storage bin under the hood as opposed to a large frunk, it's a great spot for emergency equipment.
No free lunch(:
That’s totally not the case…
I mean not really. Tesla Model 3 for example is the exact same design before and after the heat pump, you just lost a couple of inches of frunk space. It still has a pretty big frunk with the heat pump there.
If you could vote on a post to be most inaccurate and stupid, you would win a lot of points.
@@timmos184 hack joke
At this price point, GM really knocked this out of the park. It's competing with much more expensive EVs (when you consider what's in the 60k-ish range). The AWD version with 500hp is going to be the way to go.
For the same price as a Tesla, Cadillac is definitely taking a dig at Tesla. They know what they are doing and it’s BEAUTIFUL
The design is dope. I really like where car design is heading.

Contact me for your reward☝...

@@JamesGriffinT Thats interesting I had not considered charge time as a factor for my next E vehicle. Thanks for the heads up.

This guy does a really good review. We have similar taste, as I agree with almost all of his observations and opinions.
Was lucky enough to drive one a couple weeks back and I really liked it. One of my concerns with this car is the pouch batteries being used for these cars. This was the same style battery they had issues with years ago. GM apparently corrected their issues now but it remains to be seen.
They can change the batterietype in the future if there are better batteries!Soon you can convert your gasguzzer to electric to,and you decide how big the batteriepack should be!
legacy auto just put out all shiny new evs like this one that look great, to some, on the surface but that’s where it ends. Then get the right people to hype it for them .. and rinse and repeat
If this is any indication, I can't wait for the Blazer and Equinox EVs to hit the market from GM. They're built on the same platform and should provide a similar software experience.
If GM can do a sunshade like this big, tesla has no excuse
I'm a Lexus guy but Caddy nailed it. It's worth a look.
I can't unsee WALL-E in the seats.
Dam 15k markup 😢
in the near future the dealerships will be no longer, you will he able to purchase directly from the manufacture via online..
Consider changing your dealer. Mine promised no markup from MSRP and no deposit beyond $100 until the order is placed

Cadillac did their thing with the Lyriq, it stands above all the other EVs in it's price range.
I love these. Want one to replace my Y at some point.
That's a nice surprise from Cadillac for a first EV
As someone who worked on GAS for the lyriq @ GM, this makes me so happy :)
"Will Tesla figure out luxury or will luxury figure out software first" -MKBHD Looks like luxury is making real strides in fixing their software, I just hope that this will filter down to cheaper GM brands, they seem like the only brand that wants to make the mythical 25k electric car.
Right now there are already a few cars that (after the federal tax credits) do actually reach around that $25k mark.
GM has really turned around post bailout…
I’m quite interested in seeing where they go as they continue to make more electric vehicles.
Worked on the infortainment system on this car. Pretty cool and got to drive the prototype around the lot. I do wish the UI was better developed. Alot of the style design was really bad the chips we got to run it wasn’t that great. Also, alot of weird decisions. That’s about it. Really cool and sleek car with a pretty affordable price tag
Interested to know more of these weird decisions you speak of.
I love sedans, but in America I wouldn’t feel safe driving one as all the other cars are gigantic

i have this car. The smoothest car i have ever driven. I can definitely say its a luxury drive.
Ngl I think GM is killing it with it's new electric vehicles
There is also Super Cruise. Standard for 3 years.
I love the lights. I feel like the model y and Tesla cars and a few other electric cars have lost identity simply because… they look bland. They lost that grill and it just made it look unfinished. But hey, that’s their thing. Personally I LOVE flashy things a little. I love when my car has some type of character. Also the electric Escalade is coming.
Looks much better than model Y. Good looking.
Here are the Specs on the AWD from GM China:
710 Nm of torque (approx. 524 lb-ft)
0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 4.9 seconds. RWD around 6.3 sec.
Top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph)
AWD range converted from the Chinese test data is 287 miles.
It's literally insane how good the cameras are for video recording on the iPhone 14 Pro!
I like the Lyriq, couple out by me, I might get one.
