Once each of them had completed their meatless masterpiece, we asked food scientist Rose to explain the choices they made along the way - both good and bad. What I love about level 1s is that they don’t care if they’re considered “bad” but they just enjoy cooking, and showing people how to do it

@The Vintage Vegetarian - I always initially think that when I'd see walnuts used for hummus, vegan meatloaf, vegan wellington, vegan burgers, pie crust, tapenade, pesto, etc. and then I try it & wowwww, skepticism disappears. I always keep walnuts on hand, so I'm open-minded about recipes that include them & idk why I stay skeptical lol bc it always turns out great!

Hi - I think Epicurious should do a 4 levels "Chicken Tikka Masala". It's a great, popular international dish that ppl cook. You have amateurs who use store bought marinade and experts who make their own. This would continue the international foods that 4 levels is producing such as dumplings and sushi.
Epicurious if you do this make me the Level 1 Chef - I wanna assert dominance.

12:18 I know it's a little late, but if you coat the rings in flour, then the batter, then the panko, you avoid what happened where some of the batter peels off. Flouring a battered object first gives the batter something to stick to. Although personally I found her burger to be the most appealing. What I liked about hers (and the level 3) is that they aren't trying to make a meat like burger, just a vegetarian burger. I'm really impressed how she bound her burger with cashew butter and tapioca starch. The whole barley is a nice touch for some chewy texture.
I really appreciate Rose saying the full names of her cast mate's creations.
Stephen is just the everyday cook - also he’s one of the most genuine people found on UA-cam in my opinion

@@artline2897 The "veggie" in "veggie burger" doesn't stand for "vegetarian"; it stands for "vegetable". One would assume a vegetable burger would not have eggs as eggs are, ya know, not vegetables.
Andrew O'Donnell i thought what would separate veggie burger from vegan burger is that of what differentiates vegetarians from vegans. Most vegetarians consume eggs and dairy, at least those that i know of.
@@artline2897 When I google "vegan burger", the vast majority of search results are for veggie burgers (including the wiki to veggie burgers which doesn't have "egg" or the like as a normal ingredient.)
For the most part, from what I can find, a veggie burger is just as I said: a vegetable burger. Down the line people probably got lazy with their binders and started adding egg which, in turn, made people have to diverge into specifying "vegan" since people were incorrectly adding egg to it.
As a vegan, so grateful that Gabriel just volunteered to do a vegan one. Thank you!

Elijah ASMR watch the pancake episode, it’s a running joke of these videos with him in them.
The short of it: he put half a cheesecake in a pancake batter.
People to this day still roast him for it, including his doctor when they saw the video he admitted later.
Ironically, they forget about his insult about maple syrup.

The epicurious chefs like to make fun of each other a lot and themselves more.
The posters do the same. It’s the same for any chefs oddities. Ctrl F Frank who’s a level 3 and see how jokes are focused on him still waiting for vegetables to grow because he will literally take days to make a simple meal.
Or Emily a level one chef who put ketchup on her French Toast. It’s not a mean thing, it’s just a running joke that people use since all of them have done an oddity that most people wouldn’t.

The fans love the jokes, and make their own friendly jabs. The chefs read them and take the roasting as part of the fun and make fun of themselves and the others because they know that it’s all in fun and the fans love it.
Hell, one of the chefs has a fan base just for his laugh and sometimes he can’t get through his intro without being in hysterics because he knows that they love him.
It’s all part of the fun.
I tried the level 3 chef's recipe and it was amazing (used a flax egg though)

Tbh mad respect to Stephen for taking the easy way out with the store bought veggie meat. That’s one thing where the manufactured version is often better.
You know what I love about this show? Everybody LOVES what they made. When the bring in the levels they make it seem like higher levels are inherently better, but you know what? Some people just want to eat basic stuff and it tastes GOOD to them!
They must try tempe, tempeh is made from fermented soybeans, suitable for vegetarians who want a full meal
