Camshafts are the new heads mod! It used to be power was restricted by manufactures at the heads and so buying heads was just a massive performance gain...now that mechanicle bottle neck is the camshaft..if you want to mod your daily driver skip the exhaust, skip the port and polish skip the cold air intake and put hour nickles into that camshaft and tune...after that you can start doing bolt on stuff..but that camshaft is the bottleneck you got to replace to unlock all that performace in a modern car..

Any guys that do decide to do a cam please go to 3/8 pushrods, Manton rocker shafts, and Stanke collars and braces. These items will help you stabilize your valve train and rev on up to 7500 or so if the cam is big enough to do it. We've got to rev these motors guys if we are ever going to compete with the LS or new LT engines. Port the heads run a big cam that pulls hard to 7300+. Bad ass torque converter and these cars should run some good times
I checked your channel to see if you had any videos of you working on cars. I'm not surprised you don't. A 6.4 does not need to turn up to 7500 to make more hp. If a stock Mustang 5.0 can make 460 hp @ 6500. A 392 should be able to make 580 @ the same speed.

It is a lot of money for not a lot of gain. You have to tear the engine almost completely down to do a cam on the 392. At that point with the investment of going that far you should replace the pistons and rods so you can pro-charge it in the future and get some real hp out of it. You won't want a Hellcat anymore...
You can do that, but the Hellcat has more of a ceiling to work with because of the transmission. If you want a cam swap done, it makes more sense to combine it with headers because overall it will be cheaper, instead of taking the car in twice, etc. Also, the cost of _everything_ has gone up, and this kind of work is expensive regardless of make, model or platform.
Yes, but even 'big build' turbo cars, require a cam swap at some point. In 2024 , you'll be spending 15k-25k on turbo swap, not to mention other parts that accompany it.

My 392 is built cammed and boosted and I’ve put a lil over 20k in the car, and I did it on a budget..I still have about 7k untill the car is completely done. I’d say expect to spend around 30k

@@392_RHINO I’m well over 707, and to be honest 707 crank is actually not that fast. Hellcats are 50-60k, I spent 28k on my car with 30k+ in it. I actually saved money. With a hellcat your spending 50-60k for the car then another 15-20k on mods. The main difference is the hellcat platform gives you a head start with a forged rotating assembly and a blower to work with. I can’t afford the high car payments at this stage in my life to purchase a hellcat.

If it was the dumbest thing to do then companies will literally put a warning that their kits isn’t attended for stock vehicles. @@Toro704 youd need to build the bottom end of the scats. Pistons, rods and most likely some of the top end as well. Once you do that . Youre well over 10k, a 3-4k cam setup is just fine and a lot more affordable!
I’m going to do a magnuson I believe and not build anything! Running 6-7psi max until I do want to build it and then can up the psi to 12-15psi and beyond depending on the build! I’ve been researching like a good boy and I get they aren’t built for boost but from what I have read they can handle 5-7psi no more unless you are forging and such! If my engine blows on 6-7psi I’ll just replace it with something better or fully build the blown 6.4! Anyway that’s my story lol! 👊🏻😎
Between the cost and the possibility of damage to the motor if anything is not done correctly is just not worth it for 50 hp, just my opinion but I paid $55,000, for the beast and it’s great as is, and 50hp isn’t enough to go through all that, I’m good but I’m also not racing, but even if I was , no thanks the car was built amazing and if you want more power get the hellcat used when the prices return to earth.
I would rather build my car and spend 15+ more and have an original one of a kind car rather than a me too car. Anyone can buy a car but not anyone can build a car. Everyone has their taste.
@gygygbunknbhgyvtc well, technically one isn't "building it" but rather, BUYING aftermarket parts, then PAYING _someone else_ to install, dyno and tune the car. A better, more accurate term would be "aftermarket/modded" vs "stock."
Waste of time and money IMO. I ran my scat against a fully built blown 426 E85 build on a roll and he left me like I was sitting still no joke. Supercharged 426 with E85 is the way to go, anything else will be a disappointment

Im in NC and see that you went to a spot on NC, Mass acceleration. Denver aint too far. Seeing that you got yours done a few years ago there, do you recommend still going there? I turned down a cam when doing my mds delete. Do everything myself including tuning so it would have only cost me an extra 700 or so in cam and springs. Still not worth it on the 392. You're talking 25 horsepower. The hp gains the manufacturers list are on 5.7s.
The scats can make demon power if built properly. That's really when dollar for dollar, it becomes worth it. I've seen a few twin turbo 426 short blocks pushing 1000+whp.

@@Toro704 yeah 6.4L. I’ve actually been tuning it for the past day since I got the mpvi 3 when I unlocked the pcm thru hp tuners. I got the idle dialed in so now it has a nice chop. Apparently these chops have to be tuned in, the hrt cams don’t really chop on their own.
One more thing. Did you have increased valvetrain noise? Like a typewriter tick after installing this cam? Runs strong, just has encresssx ticking noises.
Nah can’t you’d have to basically rebuild the whole motor to super charge it , but no cap 500 - 550 NA power is really good , that’s almost hellcat power , a stock hellcat is 600 to the wheel
A lot of folks get confused by dyno numbers . NA and boost is different power delivery. The (stock) Hellcat power kicks in much later in the RPM. An NA 392 car kicks in the power early. This is why if you watch a drag race the Hellcat will start to pull away after the 1/8 mile mark. I've had both cars.
There's not a break in on a roller cam😂😂😂 basically run it to temp....change the oil If u even want to. I mean it wouldn't b a bad idea to run break in oil for the new lifters

This is why I twin turboed my Scat. Power per dollar isn't worth a cam job, especially if you just want the sound at idle.

Bra it’s the same amount of work to do a cam in a Hemi or ls. Gotta change springs in heads, pull the water pump, timing cover and slide the cam out
