“When you tear out a man's tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you're only telling the world that you fear what he might say.” This a big step back for UA-cam. Odyssey is looking like the better platform now.
They say hiding dislikes is meant to protect creators, even though creators can still view the dislike count. In reality, it's meant to silence the audience.
youtubers can already turn off the public like/dislike ratio on their videos, so i have no fucking clue why we aren't even given an OPTION to enable dislikes publicly now. it's so weird and unfair.
I would actually be less pissed if UA-cam just flat out said that this was only done to protect big brands from criticism. At least then they would be honest about it
I speak from personal experience when I say the right to criticize is important. When I was in art school, we would frequently do critique days after we finished a project. This allowed us to see each other’s art, giving both positive feedback and constructive criticism. Admittedly it did sometimes hurt my feelings when my teachers disliked something I worked really hard on, but they would also give me suggestions on how to improve. If my teachers were never allowed to say anything negative to me, my art would be no better than it was in high school.
This update was made merely to protect corporations who post videos on UA-cam from backlash, they couldn’t give less of a crap about the individual creators…
The most surprising part of this change is that literally all they did was change the text from a number to DISLIKE. They didn't stop sending the number, it just doesn't display it. You can get a browser extension to change it back.
I've been on this platform for 5 years and let me say. This is about the worst decision that they could of made. As a person who's always looking to improve, I like seeing dislikes because it shows me that I need to improve my work. But if this is the way its gonna be. Might as well do what you said and fight fire with fire. Time to get that free browser extension.
When even the CREATOR OF UA-cam says it’s a bad idea you know you tucked up. Then again the people running Google/UA-cam don’t seem to respect his opinion anymore or the opinion of anyone that uses the site.

UA-cam made such a stupid decision that Enter had to make another technocracy episode just for them, just...amazing.

“UA-cam dislikes you”
UA-cam has been in a steady decline for quite a long time, it'll never cease to amaze me the amount of bad decisions they make
I think they did to protect people like celebrities, news outlets, and even the current President because they get ratioed in big numbers.
I feel the hatred on a daily basis.

UA-cam’s slogan used to be “Broadcast Yourself”... USED to be.

Dislikes where a form of quality control.

I feel that if UA-cam just brought back the five star system, I’d be fine with it since most just rated it 1 star or 5 stars
Corporations don’t dislike you, they hate you. Love your wallet though.
you can't fight racism with more racism, and you don't protect peoples' voice by taking what they can say away
UA-cam has never been for the creators sadly...
