- The Rising of the Shield Hero has surprisingly taken my interest this season, despite it being an isekai, a genre I first hated, has now swapped my stance because of one single incredible character that is a breath of fresh air for it’s genre and hopefully will inspire more to com.

Of the world where Naofumi was summoned had Dark Souls mechanics he would be unstoppable, alone Havel set will be enough to destroy a country think about it havel shield can bring heavy damage
Unfortunately, so far, (MINOR SPOILERS HERE)
You ready?
Naofumi's shield attacks (bashing, countering with shields that have no counter attack effect), and his own hand to hand attacks, do next to no damage simply because he's the Shield Hero. But yeah, he could definitely get all Cappy with it, there's no say in that his attacks don't stun or anything. Just that they don't do any damage.

Love the series and I hope there are more seasons after this one ends. I love the under dog hero. The hero first starts off as a no one and then becomes labeled as a degenerate. Then rises from the dirt to prove everyone wrong. That is a great way to create a hero's story.
Same and as popular as the series is and the fact that there are 21 volumes in total as of now, with the anime only having covered 1 and a half. I think it's getting a season 2 at some point

I like this one a lot because we’re usually seeing other Isekais where the OP Characters just gets everything handed to them and some of the Ladies are just too easy/act easy. Naofumi on the other hand is earning everything from the ground up. He’s a victim of the Racist Religion of the 3 Heroes, and if I was in his Shoes...I would’ve just traveled to another Country, befriend the Monarchs there and convince them to invest in me to help save the World while getting stronger there cuz who the hell wants to deal with constant Negativity and Dishonest People? But as the Story unfolds more and more, I keep rethinking that Naofumi staying was for the best cuz now a lot more things are going his way...in a very satisfying way to be honest. I am psyched for whenever Season 2 comes out because I’m sure that’s when Naofumi will be outdoing the other 3 Heroes in every way possible. Money, Well-Earned Hero Status, a Merchant to help him stand on his feet, a Gifted Healer, and I’m sure he’ll have a lot more Honorable Women(Harem) around him compared to the Spear Hero.

The Shield Hero was one of the 4 heroes, so powerful and so wise he could use his rage to influence his shield to make cused attacks… He had such a knowledge of his shield that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying.
The three isekai that have been standouts has been Overlord the trope of OP MC evil but not evil.
Slime the MC having unlimited potential but starts out week.
Finally the Shield the MC is weak and naive and gets betrayed and shunned, but perserveres in the end and is redeemed.

I am so looking forward to Naofumi having everything in the end that the 3 Heroes had in the beginning. Money, Status, Strength and the Ladies.
For me Konosuba is in there, just because you need something to keep the genre from taking itself too seriously, pointing out the absurdity of some of the tropes if less heroic people were placed in the same situations.

Shield hero has quickly become my new favorite anime. I've rewatched every episode over 10 ten times since the past week when I first started watching it. There only criticism I have, is that the pacing can move a little too fast, but other than that I'd say this show is absolutely amazing.
I’m not really a fan of those more filler-like episodes that came after episode 4 tbh
@@WavyHaise they had to adapt those, since that's what happened in Vol 2. They were going to get a bit calmer after what happened in volume 1, but it'll pick up again soon. I've seen people complain about how boring it's gotten when at the same time they want to see MC's fro other shows progress and not be OP from the start which is what we're getting now. I can never understand what people expect

Some people heavily criticized Steins Gate for it's slow start but now praise it. You need to lay the long game in order to set up the most emotional chapters afterwards.
Shield Hero is not exactly like that but I wouldn't call what is coming fillerish, which is a term I dislike because people tend to abuse it.

On a side note, I know what the Shield Hero's been through because I've had my own run in with a town of liars. It does break you, in a way most cannot fathom.
Noctis Corvus even if it’s just one person. In my case it’s someone I had thought was my closest friend for nearly a year.
The first episode reflects the other side of the spectrum of accusations on rape and sexual assault. Where the female uses that norm to use bc she knows she will be believed regardless of the guy being innocent. Its how our society is. This hooked me to the anime immediately
I just wanna say Naofumi wasn't a classic isekai protagonist he kind of reminds of Ainz from overlord. Naofumi was a otaku in the normal world but he also had a real life what most isekai heroes didn't had. So he wasn't all classy.

I would call Neofumi 30% anti-hero. Because when it comes to saving friends and villagers, he is selfless and good. But isn't very trusting to others and would even threat and haggle people for a good price of money for his service or items. Basically a thug life hero😎 in my opinion.

But the big difference between Ainz and Naofumi is that Ainz is evil because he wants to be evil while Naofumi is evil because others are evil to him.
I'm something of an isekai junkie, but I won't deny that the genre is filled with a *lot* of stinkers.
The thing is, though, isekai is a storytelling _tool,_ and a very useful one at that. It gives the author a way to organically change the entire rules of the world and naturally exposit worldbuilding. The problem is that people usually use it as a checkbox to tick while they try to appeal to the lowest common denominator instead of doing anything new.
Come to think of it, the current isekai genre is more or less a paintjob of that era of garbage harem anime from years ago, isn't it?
Anyway, a good isekai has always been more than worth the goldpanning search to me, and I'm not worried about future developments in the genre. Like oil in water, a good story regardless of its genre will naturally rise to the surface in this era of information technology and powerful word-of-mouth.
It's also an easy way to get out exposition, instead of just fantasy, in isekai the character can be just as clueless as the viewer himself so we explore the world together with said character. Konosuba was also a good isekai, but that's just ironic when it makes fun of the genre.
Honestly, people just like to hate something thats popular. They are popular because some of the best shows and stories came from them. Isekais exited for decades. theres nothing wrong with liking them.
just like horror is a good genre, not all horror is good. I honestly hate it when people talk like liking Isekai is a bad thing when literally thats one of the best genre and story telling device out there.
Finally someone appreciates Naofumi for who he is.
It's a personal gem of mine. Mainly due to the fact that men are treated poorly in this world.

Naofumi is one of my favourite characters ever, mainly because of his realistic way of living. If someone goes through this, they wouldn’t be all happy and trusting of others. I love him honestly
Good thing my friend recommended this to me, it took me 2 days to finish the season. I really loved the movie and i hope they make s2. By far one of the best animes ive watched. Different set of emotions when i watched this, i feel angry, loved, sad, and many more, the shield hero actually makes me feel whats his feeling and that actually taught me lesson, to prove everyone who fked with you wrong.
This is currently keeping me alive and from going crazy.

There are a few isekai protagonists like naofumi, protagonists that got similar bad deals, but managed to rise above it, but he probably fit the role best.
I remember one isekai, where the healer class was the one discriminated against, and the healer from another world was forced into a drug addiction by a character similar to Myne...
The character lost his sense of self and became a drug lapdog to the girl.
He eventually came to his senses, used his healing magic to reverse time and gain revenge on her.
Another isekai was a spin off to shield hero, making the spear hero the protagonist. It was basically groundhog day, with a traumatized eccentric version of him.
I think you're talking about Accel World there, but some of the details are off so I'm not sure. Healers weren't discriminated against, the skill was incredibly rare and highly coveted. The healer was a girl. Drugs weren't involved. The villain used his unique power of skill theft on the protagonist to claim his unique ability of flight. She served the villain to get the chance to use her "healing" power on him, so she could revert time far enough back to undo the original theft.
The groundhog day isekai was probably Re: Zero.
@@themorebeer3072 nah, those were good isekais as well, but there really id an isekai centered around a vengeance seeking male healer. And an isekai comedy spinoff of shield hero where the spear hero stole the glory. The hero's spear had some failsafe that forced him back to the start, minus some memories, whenever a hero died.

I love this so much
Tragedy can add depth to a character and a story. However, when it gets to the point that it becomes an end rather than a means, you wind up turning that character into a Gary Stu. And that's unfortunately what happens in Shield Hero. They focus so much on how unfair Naofumi's situation is and how much more he suffers than any other character that it becomes the whole point of the story.
There's some choices of changes in the narrative between the manga and the anime that I both like and don't like, but overall both are great experiences to go through, it's a unique kind of story we haven't seen in quite a long while and I enjoy some of the twists and turns in the manga that I hope to see in video.

love his character. love how the sparkle and shine in his eyes full of hope and excitement got wiped out completely in the 1st episode itself, replaced by rage and despair. if u compare his face before and after the false rape claim, u could see 2 different guys with the same hair.

This is a story of redemption and self worth.
I love Naofumi as a character. He's one of the best examples of the hero that a world needs, but doesn't deserve. He immediately captures your attention as either a viewer or a reader because of his situations and his plights, making him a character that you always constantly root for. In my case, to the point that I don't trust many of the other characters that appear because Naofumi's frame of mind is so well explained and justified.

Insightful analysis! Love all of his companions. Will he separate from R by the end? He’s more likely to die while saving them and everyone else, but his death in that world will bring him back to Japan to begin his life anew. Just a prediction. I’ve no idea and no spoilers.

I thought not. It's not a story the three heroes church would tell you. It's a demi-human legend. Naofumi was the shield hero, so powerful and so heroic he could use his hatred to influence the shield to deal damage… He had such a knowledge of the shield, he could even keep the ones he cared about from getting hurt.
The curse series is a pathway to many shields some consider to be unholy.
He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing raphtalia and filo, which eventually, of course, he didn’t. Fortunately, he taught his apprentices everything he knew, then his apprentices fought for him. Ironic. He had to have others deal damage for him, despite being a cardinal hero.

It's funny. I don't remember him being an asshole to anyone, he just knows that he has value and that he has to deliver value to others, and he truly has no reason to care unless the people he's forced to protect pay him value to protect them back to him. All he refuses to do is be an altruist, a log for other peoples' sacrificial fires. That's why I love him the most, and it's why the merchants do too.

Naofumi's shield has a lot of capabilities, but he can't fight in hand-to-hand combat with his shield. If he had a japanese version of Captain America in his world, he would've been an incredible, and unstoppable Shield Hero.🤩
If anything I feel that deep down when Naofumi saw Raphtalia I feel he saw a little bit of himself in her, someone who had been treated like shit in this world just for being who they were and I feel he felt that he could help her in the same way she could help him but in order to do that he needed to make her prove herself to him by making her confront her fears about the world in the same way he was and also to not take crap from anyone like when she stood up to the spear hero in episode 4 and confronted naofumi's dark thoughts at the end. In the end they both complete each other and gave each other a new perspective on life and that's the beauty of their tragedies.

I always wonder if his past on regular earth was similar to what happened in that world. I mean he does look lonely and easy attracked to attention from the start.
raphtalia's trauma was only at a few weeks old actually.
Consider that any other isekai protagonist would have given up, fallen into permanent despair, or committed suicide to escape their responsibilities if they were in the same position as Naofumi, yet Naofumi, either blinded by his good nature or his commitment to duty, not only continued to try and improve himself and those immediately around him, but also actively participated in fighting off the Waves, even before his name and title were cleared. Yes, his opening was tragic, but it's what he did with the tragedy and the feelings they forced on him that makes him a Hero.

If buying a slave made Naofumi so bad then answer me this, why did he not only treat Raphtalia with kindness but also why did Raphtalia chose him over the spear hero if Naofumi was such a bad guy. Like you said, context matters and if people actually watch the series they would know that it's not a master slave in the horrific sense, as Naofumi puts it, more like she's a daughter to him, someone he can truly trust in this world and give him a ray of hope and sunshine after going through so much darkness. Also further prove that Naofumi is not a bad guy for buying a slave, at the start of episode five, Raphtalia gets the slave crest reinserted onto her. Naofumi didn't force her to do that, he didn't drag her kicking and screaming, she happily stated that SHE wanted to get it, not as a symbol of ownership, but as a symbol of trust that they had for one another and how they would always have each others back. So yeah, Naofumi did buy a slave, but at the end of the day it didn't make him a bad person, just someone who had hit the lowest of the low and had nothing else to lose and even after forcing her to confront her fears, Raphtalia still had his back because of just the kindness that Naofumi showed her.
Lasherluke They're many different forms of slavery. Cruelty, abuse, profit, protection or using a human being like a Slut/Hoe. In my opinion Neofumi is using Raccoon girl for means of protection. While also treating her with respect, love and care like any other human being. So Neofumi actions are pretty much okay. Because if he didn't save her. Raccoon girl would've ended up with a horrible and evil master.
I agree with everything you said. A lot of people misunderstand the situation and actions that Neofumi just done. Had he gave up or turned evil. Raphtalia would most likely be dead. If he didn’t buy her in the first place.

Like in the episode where he does buy Raphtalia at what point is he actually mean to her and I know they are going to bring up the slave crest thing, I actually saw it as him being firm and fair, like Naofumi knew that he needed to show Raphtalia the kind of world that they were in and I think he saw the potential in Raphtalia because unlike the other heroes who were treating the situation like a game, he treated the situation like this is real and he was like, this girl could be useful in terms of giving myself someone who couldn't betray me and someone who I can train, he even said that he would train Raphtalia up and despite his coldness, he's actually a very good instructor and Raphtalia becomes braver in the spam of only a few days. Yes he did say some quite harsh things, like saying he can just buy a new slave, but I feel that he said that as a test to see if she can truly fight as his sword and she proved herself to him time and time again, plus really after all he went through he needed someone like Raphtalia to get out of that darkness but at the same time Raphtalia needed someone to help her out of her darkness to. In many ways I feel that Naofumi weather he likes it or not saw a little bit of himself in Raphtalia and therefore trained her to not take crap from anyone like when she stood up to the spear hero in episode 4

Naofumi is instant karma/ immediate yet compassionate justice and that’s why it’s so satisfying to watch as opposed to a wishy washy hero who keeps getting trampled on and needs saving

Man I'm loving this show. It's the third anime I got into. Overlord and goblin slayer being the other two. I had so many emotions watching it and love the story. Crazy to see what happens next haha

@@WavyHaise like I watched shield hero on lower quality subbed until I found anime planet, and I loved that there was dubbed. But a lot of other animes I started giving a try are only subbed. What would be the place to watch stuff dub?
@@arturarruda8151 Depends, if you wanna watch it legally, a subscription at crunchyroll is probably the best. Illegally most people use kissanime, I've started using torrents though for better quality and more convenience.

(Sorry for my bad english, it isn't my first language) I think that the episode 7 lowered the quality, but I understand that sometimes you has to put some fill (in spanish we say "relleno" but I don't know how to translate it) the plot, and the episode 8 was disappointing, because everyone was waiting for that shield full of anger, but I fell that his power wasn't the one that we waited, and also Raphtalia saved him like nothing, I was expecting that was going to happen the second or the third time of the transformation, but the first time? Well... I hope that they can improve in the next chapters

The anime flipped it to make him seem like a good guy even though he actually is. Look at how he treated Raphtalia - he treats her like a person and honestly cares about her well-being. I cannot wait until seasons 2 and 3!
