gg! Liked the addition of the time to pause for us and think the places of the settlements!
Me too
That 5,4 city thought is way underappreciated. I think almost all players would city the 6,3 when they're in the middle of the game even if they would say they wouldn't in comments and whatnot. Making those decisions in game is def what sets you apart from most others. Great game to watch!
It only took my like 7000 games to figure out 54 was the better city lol
Mathematically, there doesn't seem to be much of a difference. Depends on what resources you need, I guess.
What a lucky 10 for that plow! Amazing.
Ps: you should’ve road the entire desert for fun at the end. Haha
That was some manifesting going on there!
lunchtime dandy gets me through the day💪 GL HF
Spoiler shield ❤
Thoroughly enjoyed watching you win this game!
What a game! The rolls came in when they needed to
I’m sad you didn’t settle on the desert at the end for the triple desert aesthetic
Amazing energy!
I can't tell if you upload a higher percentage of your wins than losses, but regardless, I enjoy watching videos where it doesn't go your way too. I feel like I often learn more too. Anyway, love the setup and how you played. Thanks for posting and entertaining me :)
Definitely uploads more wins, but his win percentage usually seems to be around or approaching 50% which is nuts anyway
Wow this game was a masterclass on small 1% decisions that compounded into a monster game
I would take the 10-5-9 pointed right in second position. That get me stuff to build roads and wheat. Sheep is pretty plentiful on this board so I should be able to trade for it or pick some up on the way back to build settlements easily, and the board also has a lot of ore if I need to trade to make a city. I might pick some ore up on the way back as well.
What a game!
Blue’s mistake was going for the wheat port for his second settle instead of the 492. He has no sheep, so he needs road and you’re his direct competition. The extra 6 wheat being on the wheat port also makes his 6 a bigger target. And he can’t buy devs to knight it away from him easily. He didn’t have enough endgame foresight and it cost him.
I think that the best second place would be 4-11-3, so half of the players were without wheat or forced to choose worse places with it
Dandy for future videos I think you should leave the chat scrolled down when you type or negociate, to see the replies.
I definitely think I would've made the mistake of citying 6:3 but after your explanation it makes a lot of sense. Is the reason why you didn't city 4:9:2 because it makes the 9 wood too big of a block spot? I realize the 2 wood only makes it one extra pip but with the city could've helped when it rolls occasionally.
I'd love to hear more about your thoughts on when to talk in chat vs when not to etc. I rarely say much in chat but I noticed you utilize it a lot. Do you ever feel that makes you a bigger target?
I definitely play better without chat and twitch 😂 There’s a give and take. I am less focused on the game but I get to interact with Twitch and engage the community. If I am playing top 100 games I will most likely do it off stream to focus and not deal with snipers.
@@dandydrew i think he might mean the in-game chat dandy, since he did mention the whole "makes you a bigger target" thing. like when to try and make calls, when to ask for trades, etc. would be interesting to get your thoughts on how much effect high in-game chat activity has both positively and negatively from your experience.
@phoenix402 yes! I meant the in game chat. Ability to talk directly to your opponents is actually one of the biggest differences between colonist and risk (wex only have emojis to communicate)
Ahh my bad Mallorie! The best way I describe using text chat is this… Every play has an “expected value”. There are some cases where, depending on the table/players, the value can be negative bc someone might not like chatty opponents. All of a sudden, they will get mad and rob you because of it. From my experience for all the times it has back fired, it has paid out 5-6X more. The ability to facilitate deals and communicate (somewhat) is quite valuable but needs to be done with tact. At the end of the day, I would say using text chat properly is a positive EV play! If it’s not working for you overall, don’t use it or pick your spots.
The 9-4-2 is by definition better than the 5-4 as far as the city upgrade goes.
The 9 is blocked a lot then. 5-4 is more spread out
@ 9:05 he took the trade!
I'd take one of the wheat spots + wood brick. Wheat and brick are tight on this board. Thr 5 9 10 would be my choice because I like the 3-1 better than the wheat port and I can maybe get a road network pairing with some sheep.
For 2nd pick, looking at 5-4 or 4-9-2.
Great minds think alike
You could even argue that this game was Textbook
I would say it would be textbook IF I pulled 1 VP over the 2nd city… but close enough 😊
porting with 5 wood and and an ore .... prob anticiapte the 7 and pluck or rob and hold your hand...
Drew how would’ve you felt about 8/4/11 as second pick? I think that there’s a good chance you get a good OWS setup with nice ports and ore
Possible but relying on a solo 4 for wheat as an OWS player just hurts so much. What second spot do you think we get that can overcome that limitation while also having enough ore?
I have a question. After you ploughed blue was it not extremely easy for them to plough your road? Or is this against the rules. Certainly what I would have done in their position
Nothing is “against the rules”. If he could disrupt my road, it should be considered. Though given my space available to me, I don’t think it would happen.
@@dandydrew It's against the rules to settle adjacent to another settlement, I mean in that sense, can he legally place a road there to plough you? Because I assume he would unless he just didn't know he could
as oranges second pick, what do you think about 6 wheat/ wheat port?
This is being too focused on coordinated numbers. The 4311 offers more than enough wheat, extra ore, and the potential for an early city drop! Much better
I am curious at why not dropping the road up from 4/5 at 21:30?
I can get rolls to either settle or plow the 9102.
Wheres the gamesound? :(
20:36 - yo dandy, is it never worth trying to buy insurance in a situation like this ? Maybe Wood+Weath for X ?
Maybe not worthy because any roll would put you over again ? Is it important to consider paying for insurance sometimes or it doesnt pay off in the long run ??
Orange made a mistake for me in his second placement. You also foresaw that he'll place on 4 3 11, but I think 9 4 2 and pointing towards wheat spot with a starting road would make him much stronger, while also lowering yours and blues road and expanding potencial and significantly increasing his road plays.
942 doesn’t do it for me. Way too slow and you have no port play long term. Essentially you have to road settle 62, then road settle 9 10, then start to get some key rolls in to build a city, then you can start fighting on devs. Otherwise it looks like green just dominates army, similar to what happened here. You could make the game he has a road play, but so goes blue and myself. The advantage of the 3411 is actually the fact you can tap into an early city with that starting hand and work from there.
Ok what am I missing? The 10 8 to 10 9 looks insane as a second pick
This is where experience will come teach you a thing or two…I would say it’s good but not insane. You have a massive risk of losing a race which would kill your game if you lose it. Also, you will be playing more of dev card game as an opposed to have a clear advantage on road. You might also deal with the emotional backlash of taking that spot. Just too much risk and no real advantage. 54 to 63 is WAY better since you get space and a massive advantage on wood brick.
Like, comment, watch
Drew. You have my sub and for last month i've been an avid watcher. I like you and all, but your no Dylan. #Dylighted4life
For real though, keep it up. You make great content. Hopefully i can make it to one of your discord/twitch sessions.
Dylan and I are super good friends and speak on a regular basis. That’s awesome if you like what he does! I’ll just leave this here for you 😉ua-cam.com/video/t4Zwj0SNesE/v-deo.htmlsi=xILSyFD84k571-bl
