So many famous rock musicians have passed....But Chris' passing made a grown man (me) cry. As a singer myself, he taught me so much about breathing techniques and true musicianship when I was a teenager. My wife is sick of me getting teary eyed while talking about his passing. But to those who really felt his soul in his voice, you understand. Rest and fly high, brother in arms.
Chris wrote this song for his best friend & roommate, Andy Wood, lead singer of Mother Love Bone, after he died suddenly & unexpectedly from an overdose in '90. By writing "Say Hello to Heaven" & "Reach Down", Chris was able to channel his grief & mourn the loss of his friend. Horrible, horrible irony, we have to listen to his song now, to ease our pain, for Chris' untimely death. Gone too soon. #LoudLove #NobodySingsLikeYouAnymore #SayHelloToHeaven #BeforeWeDisappear
Amy, not too many people realize that he and Andy were that close, or that this song is dedicated to his memory. I recently discovered Mother Love Bone. That band facilitated Seattle grunge. The're a couple of songs in Andy's memory.
I agree Layne was awesome as well that whole era of Nirvana and Pearl Jam Soundgarden also Alice In Chains was amazing all them bands were ripping the scene up! I remember hearing them on Singles movie I’m who are these guys they rip!! I was mainly into thrash metal but all them bands mentioned I had all there CD’s Tapes etc
56 years ago today in Seattle, a star was born. He forever shaped music, innovated a movement, crossed all genres of music, and is forever irreplaceable join me in saying Happy birthday to the King of Grunge, Mr. Christopher John Boyle Cornell, forever loved, always missed.
RIP.. I loved this music 🎶he tried to tell the truth about pedofilia and trafficking! Keep his memory alive! He knew 1st hand what was going on in the inner circle of these freaks! 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️
@@monicabeach6909 Your right and they will pay, the people he thought was his friends they were really his enemies. Chris had a kind heart and a loving heart, I believe he seen and or heard something, and wouldn't let it go, and it cost him his life A staged suicide, they used him and then killed him. “I never wanted to write these words down for you” breaks me every single time. A song that was forever my favorite turned to a “In Memoriam” to the greatest vocalist that we were lucky to have and listen to. This is one I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get over. Fly high and rest easy Chris, can’t believe it’s been five years.
I love you Chris Cornell. I am 67 years old and recovering from a stroke I had June 18, 2017. I have been listening to Chris since my children turned me on to Soundgarden many years ago. Chris was incredible. Not only did he have a full 4 octave range and superior control. He also had a signature 'rasp, or gravel' that he could both control and use at will during a song. That's what truly separated him from many great singers. He had some vocalist superpowers if you will and g'damn I'm so glad I lived to experience his talents! 👏🤟✊️
Such a beautiful tribute to Andrew. It feels like a tribute to Chris now as well Rip Andrew and Chris, I hope your up there with Layne. They were too good for this world, they touched so many lives and we won't ever forget them.
Please, mother mercy Take me from this place And the long winded curses I keep hearing in my head Words never listen And teachers never learn Now I'm warm from the candle But I feel too cold to burn He came from an island And he died from the street It hurt so bad like a soul breaking But he never said nothing to me So say hello to heaven New like a baby Lost like a prayer The sky was your playground But the cold ground was your bed Poor stargazer She's got no tears in her eyes Smooth like whisper She knows that love heals all wounds with time Now it seems like too much love Is never enough, you better seek out Another road 'cause this one has ended abrupt say hello to heaven I never wanted To write these words down for you With the pages of phrases Of things we'll never do So I blow out the candle, and I put you to bed Since you can't say to me Now how the dogs broke your bone There's just one thing left to be said Say hello to heaven
The first time I heard this was 1991, sittin in a car smoking a joint with a friend. We had just got the CD and sat at a park with it cranked and we were just blown away! I remember reading the lyrics along with it and I thought then that this is one of the best songs I would ever hear! Complete from top to bottom. A lesson in songwriting! Still one of my all time favorite songs! RIP Andrew Wood!
Chris is a polished diamond , a gift from God to us, full of love , courage, kindness and crystal clear pure talent, you’re greatly missed, we’re getting on the best we can so Chris thank you for sharing your beautiful voice and incredible songwriter talent ........
Heaven say hello to Cornell. One of the finest voices to ever grace this forsaken earth. I will deeply miss you and thank you for everything you left behind for us. Until next time my friend 🤘🏻🔥😪
Why this doesn't have more views is beyond me! Chris is awesome and there's pain behind his eyes for doing this song! You can feel it with his emotions and lyrics.
I'm sure the heavens stopped what they were doing and paid homage to this rock icon when he said hello to heaven....rock and roll shed a heart felt tear when this beloved Seattle rocker passed. I literally pulled over on the shoulder driving to work and had tears running down my face when the news came through my radio. As a product of the grunge scene and fellow Seattleite...our city fell to one knee and uniformly mourned this man's passing. Chris is greatly greatly missed.
I'd like to think he and Andy are together battling each other in a jam session with Kurt and the others. I need that thought so the pain can ease and have a little joy in in my heart.
Please, mother mercy Take me from this place And the long-winded curses I hear in my head Words never listen And teachers, oh they never learn But im warm from the candle Though I feel too cold to burn He came from an island And he died from the street And he hurt so bad like a soul breakin' But he never said nothin' to me, yeah A'say hello to heaven, heaven, heaven Say hello to heaven, heaven, heaven, yeah New like a baby, lost like a prayer The sky was your playground And the cold ground was your bed Now poor Stargazer She's got no tears in her eyes New like a whisper She knows that love heals all wounds with time Now it seems like too much love is never enough Yeah, you better seek out another road 'Cause this one has ended abrupt, oh yeaa Say hello to heaven, heaven, heaven Say hello to heaven, heaven, heaven, yeah I never wanted To write these words down for you With the pages of phrases Of all the things we'll never do So I blow out the candle and I put you to bed Since you can't say to me now How the dog broke your bone There's just one thing left to be said Say hello to heaven, heaven, heaven Say hello to heaven, heaven, heaven, yeah
Chris I was a jr high kid lost in my life. As a man because of you I grabbed a six string and played along with you and half gallon after half gallon of whiskey I cried days at a time over women and life and you got me through those cold Northern Maine nights, running from cops and life. Ty my friend I will miss you
I can't believe he's gone. feels like a piece of my teenage years are gone. I just want to be 16 again when life was easy and I could sit in my room and listen to Soundgarden, Nirvana , pearl Jam, STP, Alice and Blind Melon. I miss those times so much. Everytime one of them passes I'm just reminded of how long ago the 90s are and that nobody will experience another time in music like that. wish I could personally say thank you to Chris, Layne, Shannon , Kurt and Scott.
As a born and raised Seattleite in his mid 50's, I cried when I heard Chris Cornell passed. I cried like a little child who lost his most cherished possession.. The ones that make us happy the most are the ones unhappy inside. Life really sucks sometimes. Be kind to your fellow human.
+Wirsitz Miau Apple hands down. Bone China, Stardog Champion, Holy Roller, This Is Shangri-La, Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns, Man of Golden Words, awesome album.
Chris Cornell you are a icon. Beautiful voice and soul. I look forward to seeing you in Heaven. I' wish you wouldn't have left us so early. I can relate to addiction and mental illness. People need to get more educated about this. It's called dual diagnosis. God bless you man.
"Landrieu" (Andy Wood)...was indeed "the shit"...a sight & sound to behold. But "wood have been the biggest of them all"...? I don't fuckin' think so...! Vedder ain't no slouch. Cobain...? 'nuf said..! Nobody screams like Cornell (The best singer to have emerged from Washington State-and that's saying a lot). And then there's Layney. There's nobody who can howl...wail.. like that motherfucker...! Nobody. And stage presence...? Staley's got 'em all beat...!
+Richard Marshall Bowman Yeah..Staleys always been my fav...but he let me down when he chose heroin over his career and fans. And yes, I'm a Bail/Recovery Agent and a Certified Addiction Specialist...working in Opioid Addiction. I don't know about you, but I'm for Chattanooga Tenn., and started going to Seattle in 86 when one of my buddies got a marketing job there. Green River, The Melvins, Tad, Malfunkshun were big then, and their shit was taped all over Seattle...I don't have to tell you EVERYONE has their own opinions, and I never really got into Nirvana and Cobain especially, after marrying that damned skank...
Jeff Darnell Who married whom is no business of mine. Nor the ways or means of anyone's dying. I'm not judging...looks, character, habits, etc. I look at..& listen to the art....and I've seen it up close (I've lived in Seattle my entire life). Cornell has been called.....with some justification...an arrogant asshole. But he is the greatest singer to have come out of this area- "Bing Crosby, Ernestine Anderson, Jimi, Ann Wilson, Geoff. Tate, Cobain, Vedder, Ben Gibbard, Mary Lambert, Jerry Cantrell, "Tad" Doyle, Merrilee Rush, Kenny Loggins, Arm, Diane Schuur, Robert Cray, Judy Collins, Isaac Brock, Mildred Bailey, Ray Charles, "Buzz," Mia Zapata, Lanegan, Dave Grohl, Sean Nelson, Kevin Martin, Ishmael Butler, Layne Staley & Andy Wood....notwithstanding! None of us can say what "woulda been" with absolute certainty. But no one can dispute what is & has been. Cornell has been "the shit" for over 20 years. His power, range (4 octaves!!!) & versatility are awesome. I don't think Landrew could've lasted as long nor matched Chris' abilities.
He was too "Poison" or "Motley Crue". He was not grunge. I am glad he wrote the songs that I have loved for decades, but he was not what was grunge in the early 90's.
He has a lot of soul in his voice that is genuine. It comes from a place in your mind that has a lot of feeling. He is able to express it, but it does take a toll on your emotions. It is a very personal thing to sing like this in front of strangers. Many musicians are introverts. Some are able to escape the venue and live within themselves during a performance. Some of them cannot and they sit up their dying inside. Chris is one of the greatest singers we have ever known. There is another. Look up Ann Wilson of Heart. They became friends. It was bound to happen. Their souls are much the same.
I'm never going to get past all the hard and miserable times that I only survived because Chris was there for me with all his music and his self . Front know what or how I'm going to survive without him. Don't know that I want too . After my mother passed , I was literally dead inside ! Chris revived me and saved my soul ! But without him , I'm completely dead inside ! There's nothing for me now ! I just pray that I find him again when I leave this world ! I'm 56 now and I've been in he'll most of my life , hopefully my he'll will end when my life does !
Another piece of my childhood is gone.. maybe it's little consolation, and not enough for someone who changed the way I look at the world.. but my entire online world is lighting up with his voice tonight.. and it's beautiful..
It's funny. My mum used to tell me Chris Cornell was my dad and I believed her for a while.. I always listened to his music (and still do). It's kind of bittersweet when I tell that story now because it brings up happy memories but the person involved is gone.
His voice soothed my mind and got me through some dark times in my life, all the while he was fighting a battle of his own . Fly with the angels Chris. You will never be forgotten...😢
I thought about this track as soon as I heard the news, dude you were a legend I hope your in a better place, I was lucky enough to chat with you in Toronto I'll never forget that day, RIP Master Cornell
I'm shocked. Dear Chris thanks for years of great music. 1/16/13 I'll never forget my first rock concert: Soundgarden. I waited for six hours that day during one of the coldest winters in the streets of Hell's Kitchen. It was totally worth it! Rock in heaven my friend and as long as live I'll pass down your music, so future generations appreciate your legacy. Farewell Chris.
it's so hard to come to reality, everyone across the nation put your lighters in the air! give your respect and say goodbye to an amazing musician. he gave us so much and knew he had a talent and expressed himself through it. that takes a lot of courage most people can't even understand, much love and respect forever. you will always be missed across the fucking nation and the seven seas chris.
Our hearts mourn when a loved one departs, but with courage, we learn to accept their absence in our lives. In gratitude, we appreciate the time that was given. AND With Love, the memories are not forsaken. We must create new ones so we can smile again. That's not to say We ever really get over devastating loss. In the thick of it, we almost stop breathing; sometimes maybe wishing we could. We know deep within ourselves we'll never be the same. Yet, one day we feel the sun on our face again. We find ourselves smiling at a child, or joke, or memory. At that moment we realize we are finding our way back. Changed forever? Yes. But we are softer, deeper, more vulnerable & loving too. Breathing again.
"And he hurt so bad, just like a soul breaking. But he never said nothing to me." Gets me every time.
😪 I used to play this for my son 6 years he’s gone from overdose… he hurt so bad like a soul breaking … my heart is forever broken

That's what truly separated him from many great singers. He had some vocalist superpowers if you will and g'damn I'm so glad I lived to experience his talents! 👏🤟✊️
Me too!
Chris is in my opion the best vocals in Rock music, and love his looks!
+kim dishy , should not have cut his hair
+Jim Cliatt amen
It's not an opinion. It's a fact.
his voice is so unique
No other singer in the universe makes me feel like i do when he sings.
Everytime I reach the edge of my depression and bipolar disorder i listen to this on repeat. Problem solved.
prolly one of THE best voices in all of the rock in my opinion....dude can blow!!!!!
You know Andy's all smiles and giggles about this ...
Such a beautiful tribute to Andrew. It feels like a tribute to Chris now as well
Rip Andrew and Chris, I hope your up there with Layne. They were too good for this world, they touched so many lives and we won't ever forget them.
Also - Don't Forget - The Legendary Great/Late - Nirvana Leader - Mr. Kurt Cobain!!!! R.ock I.n P.eace - M2.H.B. 2022!
Definitely hands down! Best singer & all round great guy! R.I.P Mr Chris Cornell, you will never ever be forgotten in my heart! Miss you buddy!! ✌🏻🎤🎸🥁
RIP
Yes I agree Chris Cornell will never be forgotten awesome singer
Please, mother mercy
Take me from this place
And the long winded curses
I keep hearing in my head
Words never listen
And teachers never learn
Now I'm warm from the candle
But I feel too cold to burn
He came from an island
And he died from the street
It hurt so bad like a soul breaking
But he never said nothing to me
So say hello to heaven
New like a baby
Lost like a prayer
The sky was your playground
But the cold ground was your bed
Poor stargazer
She's got no tears in her eyes
Smooth like whisper
She knows that love heals all wounds with time
Now it seems like too much love
Is never enough, you better seek out
Another road 'cause this one has ended abrupt
say hello to heaven
I never wanted
To write these words down for you
With the pages of phrases
Of things we'll never do
So I blow out the candle, and
I put you to bed
Since you can't say to me
Now how the dogs broke your bone
There's just one thing left to be said
Say hello to heaven
Thanks for the lyrics there Mike!✌
mike solomon thanks 😇

:( RIP Chris say hello to heaven...

Me 2 luv him and the song
Chris' voice is so addictive. i can listen to him singing for hours and i won't get bored at all
He was amazing and like Bowie and Freddy, yes for me he is up there, I will miss him every day.
Chris Baez...it’s still crazy tough #wemissyou Chris 💔
Well said!!!!! Damn this man was amazing and makes my heart hurt!
I'd like to think he and Andy are together battling each other in a jam session with Kurt and the others. I need that thought so the pain can ease and have a little joy in in my heart.
As someone who has seen him live and a fellow seattlite I cried like a little girl.
@@ellisdee101 me too 😥
To this day this song brings tears to my eyes
September 2020, we still are listening! Love you 💙
Man, he's was soo... gorgeous!! 💔🎸💔✝️✝️

Chris I was a jr high kid lost in my life. As a man because of you I grabbed a six string and played along with you and half gallon after half gallon of whiskey I cried days at a time over women and life and you got me through those cold Northern Maine nights, running from cops and life. Ty my friend I will miss you
I was heartbroken the day I heard he passed I love you Chris Cornell I hope you're playing up in heaven to all the fans you have
I can't believe he's gone. feels like a piece of my teenage years are gone.
Man the way each verse is stacked on each other is genius in this song. They all flow... Man this song is one of the best written songs of all time.
Completely agree..
As a born and raised Seattleite in his mid 50's, I cried when I heard Chris Cornell passed. I cried like a little child who lost his most cherished possession.. The ones that make us happy the most are the ones unhappy inside. Life really sucks sometimes. Be kind to your fellow human.
He was a once in a lifetime artist. Amazing song writer, musician, and without a doubt had the greatest voice in Rock.
Temple of the dog for me is unquestionable BEST ever grunge album .
+Wirsitz Miau Apple hands down. Bone China, Stardog Champion, Holy Roller, This Is Shangri-La, Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns, Man of Golden Words, awesome album.

This song is on my funeral play list ❤❤❤
Chris Cornell you are a icon. Beautiful voice and soul. I look forward to seeing you in Heaven. I' wish you wouldn't have left us so early. I can relate to addiction and mental illness. People need to get more educated about this. It's called dual diagnosis. God bless you man.
He gave his heart and soul in every performance, miss you, say hello to heaven 🙏🏼🤍
"It hurt so bad like a soul breaking"
RIP CHRIS! You will be missed!
Say hello to heaven! R.I.P Chris !
Andy's terribly missed...he missed the whole early 90s GRUNGE scene and WOOD have been the biggest of them all..RIP Mother Love Bone/Andy WOOD....
+Richard Marshall Bowman and nobodied ever heard of Vedder if Landrew hadn't killed himself with that shit,,,
Jeff Darnell Who married whom is no business of mine.
Can't believe it's been 6 years since he left us. 😢 There will never be another Chris Cornell.
My little brother texted me recently that this song is "peak singing". He's absolutely right
I thought about this track as soon as I heard the news, dude you were a legend I hope your in a better place, I was lucky enough to chat with you in Toronto I'll never forget that day, RIP Master Cornell
Collin D First track I looked for as well. still in shock....
What did you guys talk about?
I am still in shock . . . . loved his music
Collin D to ht
Colin A i miss him like a brother
I'm shocked. Dear Chris thanks for years of great music. 1/16/13 I'll never forget my first rock concert: Soundgarden. I waited for six hours that day during one of the coldest winters in the streets of Hell's Kitchen. It was totally worth it! Rock in heaven my friend and as long as live I'll pass down your music, so future generations appreciate your legacy. Farewell Chris.
😭😭😭😭😭
Wow. We miss you, Chris. Thanks for the music, man. No One Sings Like You Anymore.
I miss you. 😭With you gone, this world has such a dark hole in it that will never be full again.
Goodbye to yet another amazing artist from my generation. We will miss you, always. Give Layne my regards, if you can...

Please give my love to Kurt, Andy, Baker, glorious Layne, Prince, John, George and all of the band I missed. Tears
Rest peaceful, Chris. I may not have known you, but I knew and FELT every emotion your voice has sang to me. I will miss you, regardless.
Every time I hear Chris sing this song I refuse to believe that he is dead.
Rest in peace mom!!

Oct 8, 2019. You will always be the Guiding light for me when times get tough. Love Chuck.
RIP Chris Cornell. What a bummer.
RIP Chris. Too beautiful for this world. You will always be in our hearts and souls.
Andrea Bodnar No words, but your comment says enough.
It's been more than two years and I am still absolutely devastated. I still bawl at this song.
I just lost another hero of mine. Alexi Laiho. 41 I can’t stop thinking about Chris. I’m so lost.
I fucking love this song. my favorite T.O.D song ever!!
it's so hard to come to reality, everyone across the nation put your lighters in the air! give your respect and say goodbye to an amazing musician. he gave us so much and knew he had a talent and expressed himself through it. that takes a lot of courage most people can't even understand, much love and respect forever. you will always be missed across the fucking nation and the seven seas chris.
God always take away the most beautiful of people. Rest in peace, Chris, and be assured that your legacy will never die..
It seems like too much love is never enough
