Having the honor of being born 40 years ago (an accomplishment on to itself these days), and growing up in The Bronx near the old East 177th Street/ Parkchester station, these were the 1st new subway cars I ever rode. Granted, the Redbirds were operating along the #6, too. But they were built during my parent's generation. R62s were just 3 years younger than me! They didn't even have scratchitti on the window sills yet. The orange/yellow/red seat patterns were a nice throwback look. And they had AIR CONDITIONING! Even the Redbirds could get stuffy on summer days. The R62s were so cold in the summer months, you had to make sure you didn't fall asleep and miss your stop! Ah, the 80's/90's.... thanks for revisiting my youth! 😎🇵🇷🇺🇸🗽🦂😍

Seeing 1996 and how the subway looked definitely hits home. These was my every day transport as a kid back in the late 90’s and early 2000s I so miss them
The R62A was the first subway train I ever rode, in Spring 2011, on the (7) Line! Then I rode the older R62, my first run in 2012, on the 7th Avenue lines (1/3). The memorable trains that used to be on the (7) are on the (6) and the purple signs became green! (NOTE: All R62As have an LED LCL/EXP circle light introduced in 2008)
2:22 I never understand why some of the rollsigns on the r62a 7 trains used to looked different. Look at the express vs the local rollsigns
May 21, 2021 marked 10 years since my first ever ride on a Subway train. Thank you to the rail fan community for making and filming rail fanning videos for the past 10 years. The R62A will always remain my #1 Subway car.

@@traveling8799 Oh yes. This is an amazing footage of the history of the R62 and R62A trains. These trains replaced the R17 and the R22's in the late 1980's.
When the new R262 trains arrive in a few years, the R62 and R62A will both be retired.
I used to ride the R62 1 trains all the time before moving out of Manhattan New York.
The trains look so CLEAN in the pics it so dirty these days

I don't think they will retire in 2023. Not until at least the mid-late 2020a like the r62a.

Most people are definitely sleeping on the 8 Thrid Avenue Elevated line. That used to run between Gun hill road Clearmount Webster Boston road Bronx 149 street Another thing to the R62S R62AS has those 8 signs also 9 10 12 13 11.

You know you are a bad photographer when you somehow take a bad photo of a R62/A 7 train
Logically, the assignments of the R262's should go as follows
Base Order (504 cars)
(6) train: 480 cars (direct replacement for 435 R62As, fleet expansion for local and express service)
-42nd Street Shuttle: 24 cars (direct replacement for 24 R62As)
Option order 1 (445 cars)
(5) train all cars (indirect replacement for some R62/As on the (1) & (3) lines)
Option order 2 (415 cars)
(2) train all cars (indirect replacement for all remaining R62/A cars on the (1) & (3) lines Direct replacement for R142 Cars damage in the March 2020 fire)
Depending on the option II order the (1) might get some R262s & most R142/As but the (1) getting R262's is unlikely to happen because R262's are strictly for the Lexington Ave line
The (4) will get R262's only If the (1) gets R262's then the (4) will get R262's from option order 1 But if the (1) will most likely will not get the R262's then the (4) will get R262's from option order 1 or option order 2
The Broadway 7th ave line (1) & (3) will get R142/As the R142As are slated to the (1) and the (1) & (3) will receive R142s so that means the (4) will swap out it's R142/As to go on the (1) & (3) So that is the Reason why the (4) is getting R262's only
The R262's will arrive mid 2024 and in late 2025 they will do a burn in test and in early 2026 the pilot train will enter revenue service on the (5) Just like the R211 pilot train entered in revenue service currently on the (A) sometime around 2027 all option orders could be completed and in 2028 they will enter in revenue service on the (2) (4) (5) (6) & 42nd St shuttle the R62/As will go straight to retirement This should be in Time for CBTC implementation on the Lexington Ave line in 2027 once all option orders are completed the Broadway 7th ave line and Jerome Ave line will swap first Broadway 7th Ave line getting R142/As & the (4) Will get R262's First then Lexington Ave will get R262's Last the 42nd Street shuttle
The R262's will have the same features as the R211's but the Led on the R262's are different they will have clear white LED display on the side exterior and In the interior LED display instead of the LEDs display looking pixelated on the R262's they will have a clear white LED display the open gangways on the R262's will look like the open gangways we see on the R211Ts the R262's will have open gangways on 6 cars and the other 4 cars will be closed gangways while the 42nd st Shuttle R262s will have 4 cars with Open gangways and 2 cars with closed gangways
When 2000 hit mostly the lines like 24 5 and 6 used the R142/As more than the R62/As

They need to bring back the R62A 5 train it looked good on the 5
They can not bring the R62as back on the 5 line because they have the strip maps already made for the 2/5 trains and they share the same exact Equipments. Wait for the R262s to come in the future for Cbtcs. However there is still goona be a lots of movements around between now and then.

@Thefanforever RBLX The R62 and R62A trains are still the same except that the floors and some of the seats have been changed.
If you look carefully, the frame of the windshield has been changed.
Were the front bullet rollsign on the R62s turn off because it was necessary or did the conductor or whoever controlled the lights did it? I seem to notice this when I watch R62 clips on the Jerome Line.

Well actually the R62as are back on the Pelham line. You will definitely see a red Express diamond on the Pelham line and the green Local circle LED lights also . You also know that the Green Local LED lights and diamond Red Express LED lights started at corona yard Flushing line and now the R188s got one set of green and red diamond Express LED lights and the R142 car number 7021 has the same exact thing.

I am a IRT and IND lover. I have issues with BMT such as the Canarsie Line in Willamsburg which is a place I don't like and I thought the M was IND because 6th ave Queens Blvd and 53 st.
The M is IND on Queens Boulevard and 6 Avenue. It used the Chrystie St Connection in Manhattan to switch into the BMT. When it runs along the Broadway Brooklyn Line and Myrtle Av Line it is BMT. It’s basically a combination of the BMT old brown M route and IND V route.

@@frankscalera7076 I remember when the R62A trains had the yellow stickers on them when they ran on the (6) line back then. And also some of the REDBIRDS R29's and R36WF that ran on the (6) also had yellow stickers on them too.
@@SuperheroJunior that doesn't make any sense that the r62s will be retiring in 2023. They still haven't even announced a sample model of the r262 yet. I believe it's gotta be a typo on Wikipedia. For the r62a it says starting on 2026-2028.

Silver FOX of the R62/& R62A cars are the most solid cars than the high tech train fleet l had rode the cars back in late 1983 on the 4 train by 1985 the 1,6 until now and today and it’s been 39 years riding these cars frequently and these cars could last another 40 or 50 more years of service because there all stainless steel aluminum and it’s too soon to retire and it’s a bad idea to put in an order of the R262 cars because of problems too!
The R262As end ways are definitely gonna happen.

The R262s Will have opengangways and LED just like the R211t the R262 will arrive in 2024 begin testing in 2025 and enter service on early 2026
It makes sense that the 2/5 get the R262s since they share a fleet & the 1&3 will be getting most r142s from the 4 and the remaining 100 sets r142s & 15 sets r142As from the 4 will go to the 6 because in the 7th ave line there is not enough r142As to cover the 7thave line & 100 sets of r188 will convert back into r142As to go to the 6
It makes sense that the 3 won't get R262s
It will make sense for the 1 to get R262s because there would be a shortage at 240th st yard
If the 2/5 don't share a fleet in Brooklyn if the 5 get rerouted permanently on the Utica Ave line then it would make sense for the 5 to get R262s that means the 2 won't get R262s & they won't share a fleet anymore if that were to happen
That means in conclusion
(1) will get R142s & R262s because if it only gets R142s there will be a shortage at 240th st yard
(2/5)will keep it's r142s & Will have R262s Because it shares a fleet & more capacity
(3) R142s only since there won't be enough sets of R262s to cover the (3)
However the R142s for the (3) will have enough sets to cover the (3)
(4) R262s only for more capacity for the Lexington Ave line since it's an express route & overcrowded
(6) R142/As & R262s for more capacity for the South Bronx commuters & Lexington Ave line since the 6 is overcrowded
(7) R188s only because it doesn't need R262s since CBTC is compatible with the R188s
42nd st (S)huttle 20 sets R262s with 6 car sets with the addition of PSD (Platform Screen Doors) because it has only 2 stops
The Irt mainlines Lexington Ave line & 7th Ave line will have R262s in 5 car sets so that means 1 of each R262 cars would be the length of 2 R62/A Cars
The 42nd st shuttle will have 6 car sets the length of 1 of each R262 cars for the shuttle will be 1/2 (1 in a half length) so the 6 car sets of R262s would be a bit longer than the R262s in 5 car sets
Also the 42nd St shuttle the R262s in 6 car sets will have no seats for passengers but they will have 2 seats for each side of the R262 car for ada accessible so that would be 4 seats for one car since the R262 for the 42nd st Shuttle will have 6 car sets in total the R262 in 6 car sets would have 24 ada accessible seats for the 42nd st Shuttle
The ada accessible seats would be yellow with the blue ada accessible sign on the yellow seats and passenger that are NOT ada accessible the seats would be blue Just like the R211/As & R211Ts/R211S
Don't forget. They are definitely gonna have both R262As end ways. Of course we already know about the R262s open gateways. The R262As might run on the 8 Thrid Avenue Elevated line to replace the R12S or the R342s one day. Don't sleep on the 8 Thrid Avenue Elevated line. Watch out.
