1 thing I forgot to add in this video was the difference in the cabs. The R142A has 1 screen on it’s control panel & R188 has 2 screen on its control panel.
Another difference you forgot was the door chimes. The R142As use the older, sharper sounding chime sound found on the R142 and R179. The R188s, both the new and conversions use the newer more muffled sounding chime found on the R143, R160 and R211.
I did know the R142A and R188 were different. I did know the R188 had a box in an A car, but I wanted to find videos that compared them but didn't. So glad you covered this.
The R142As will have CBTC as part of a future overhaul. I don't get why the overhaul will not involve converting the remaining R142As into converted R188s, or at least 10-car R188s, and then just say that the R188 is now assigned to the 4 and 7 trains
Jerome Yard does NOT take care of their R142As, the train is so dirty outside compared to the R188s, where Corona Yard keeps theirs clean and spotless for the most part.
Unfortunately I can’t because animating takes too much time and I’m using that time to work on The IRT Subway Lines. They have some tutorials on UA-cam that you can watch to teach you.
It would be better off if those R142As should be used for the 6 Trains (7591-7810) 🚊 and the R142s should be used for the 4 Trains (1101-1250 and 7131-7180) 🚊.
@ambush4131 They don’t have that many R142As on the 4 Train since a lot of other R142A 6 Trains were converted into R188 7 Trains. Also, R142 Cars (1101-1250 and 7131-7180) look much better and brighter on the 4 Trains than the R142As.

I always knew the trains were very different from each other, but I learned some things that only the most astute of people would notice, thank you!
It's mad easy to tell.
Same here and who remembers R142A 7320

Glad someone made a video about this topic, Thanks.
Really happy that a difference video between these two finally exist. Thanks so much for this!
Also, the acceleration sound of the two is different. The R142A shares the same sound as the R160A, while the R188 shares the same sounds as the R143.
It's about time someone addresses this. I be seeing R188's and no R142A's in a game. Damn kids think they the same damn thing.
R188's and R142/142A's both look the same anyways. Stop lying to yourself
@robroy6374 I don't know what the hell you talking about, but R142's are not identical to the R142A or R188.
yes, they do, on the outside. use your damn eyes.@@nyctmtakid8358

I like also when the r180 moves and makes the sound and the numbers move when the sound of the train moves 1:43
Well done! I've ridden on the fake ones now need to get on one of the real R188's lol.
Nice vid👍
HOLY SHIT THIS FINALLY CAME
2:10 i didn't not know that thanks
The R188s are only on the 7 line, while the R142As can be found usually on the 4, 5, and 6 lines
I rode the r188 125 times
I wish the MTA bought back the R142As on the 6 Train 🚊😔. Great Video 😃👍!!
Very nice Video!
Dang all I knew was that R188s had 11 cars. This really helped!
The R62A also had 11 cars that used to be running on the 7 line before the 1 car uncoupled then transferred over to the 6 line
Jerome Yard does NOT take care of their R142As, the train is so dirty outside compared to the R188s, where Corona Yard keeps theirs clean and spotless for the most part.
Hey will u try northeast corridor?

You missed one more difference. The door chimes are different on those two cars.
It okay transitcity you can add the differences between the r142A & r188 video 2
Good R142A/R188
I miss the r 142 on the 6 line can’t stand the r62 on the 6 .cant wait till we get the r262 on the 5 line
hey! i got something for you tc! one more thing R188s were first built in 2013 and R142/As were built in 2001
Request: R211A/T/S Differences
Wow, that really makes a lot of sense, but I'm thinking of the next question, what is the difference of the R62 and the R62a
The speakers on the outside I believe.
@transitcity Ohh, okay, that's cool👍

1:30 The R188 Can also have not just 11 cars but can have 10 or 12 cars
1 more thing that I realized is that R188 have way darker windows
They are exactly the same as the R142As.
It can appear darker or lighter when viewed in different lighting conditions.
Btw on the r188 they have more things blocking the window (a cars) unlike the r142as that have nothing blocking the window
what the hell are you talking about

The r188 have a BMT/IND emergency intercom system.
I realize the difference is because one the R142A is actually the (4) route
And R188s is (7)

it's common sense R142A & R188 obviously two different contract
1:20 OMG UR EATING PIZZA IM SO JEALOUS 😭😭
I dont live in America, but rather interesting
They have 10-car and the R188 has 11-car
DAMn
That’s an emergency intercom not the emergency “breaks” that’s a typo it’s actually spelled brakes
The extra car in the R188 has diffrent lights
Can you share some of the pizza at least?

Bro, can you explain difference between R68 & R68As?
They are NOT e brakes it’s emergency communication buttons
Aren’t the R188s the leftover r142a 6 trains running on the 7 line

r62a interior lighting is more bright
