The white round paper scraps are Chinese ancestor money. They are in shape of ancient Chinese coins and people burn them when we do ceremony to memorize the dead ones.
So when they just fly through the air, it could cause intense and nervous feelings to a Chinese, because it means the dead ones weren't resting in peace and they'll make something terrible happen to you.
For a Westerner: Wow these create good atomesphere.
For a Chinese: I'm very scared seeing this, maybe I'll play this game tomorrow lol

also when QingMing festival every year ~we also bring those kind of paper scraps (so call death money)·~or similar shape of scraps(different part of china has different concept of the shape or design about the death money)~to visit our ancestor's tombs~to clean the gravesites or pray for them and make ritual offerings~we usually burn those paper scraps in front of the tombs ~in order to let them receive the money and use them in the underworld....
i get its mean to be symbolic but funny paper cut into the shape of money means anything.if you think about it. it means nothing...its just paper. its not even the same size as money.
The matches are used to light the lamps to alert danger. When it's safe the light is red, when it's blue the monster is nearby.
I'm a Chinese and practice Buddhism. I like that during the safe room, there's the chanting music in the background. It is similar to the ones monk recite in temples. In a way, it symbolises that you're safe as the chants and prayers are protecting the player.

Thanks for the info, although the colors this time are a bit... unusual. cuz red is often associated with enemies while blue is with allies. But we gotta try something new rite :D

Red is like fire/sun/light from candle = bright and good energy (you know if you're in the dark room, those lights brings you to feel safe). The blue is like ice, cold something bad. It's so different if you saw in western movie or animation right 😂
I always love the Asian horror games they are usually really scary and pretty unique
Hi, just wanted to note that the interrupted dialogue was referring to a plot to poison the mistress. Cinnabar is a mercury mineral, and 45 g of mercury is, uh, a lot.
That explains why she was the metal element.
Yes, I mentioned that during the stream. Cinnabar is mercury ore, and the resulting heavy metal poisoning could cause neurological damage leading to extreme mood swings, outbursts of laughter and weeping, tremors, and other symptoms. Beyond that, dong quai may significantly increase the risk of miscarriage, and rehmannia is also contraindicated during pregnancy. Over half of that "medicine" was designed to drive her insane or make her lose her baby.
@@aphelion4616 The metal element refers to one of the Five elements and really just depends on her birthdate. Mercury has nothing to do with that since it was not recognized as a heavy metal in Qing dynasty yet

木(mu)--wood
The four elements (metal, wood, water and fire) corresponds to the different mythical beasts:
青龙 (qing long), a type of dragon represents the element wood（木）
朱雀 (zhu que), a type of bird represents the element fire（火）
玄武 (xuan wu), a tortoise entwined with a snake represents the element water（水）
白虎(bai hu), the tiger represents the element metal (金）
As for the element earth, I'm not quite sure about the corresponding mythical beasts.
I take back what I said on the Paper Dolls chapter 1 stream: *this* is the creepiest shit I've seen in a long time. Those goddamn headless paper dolls moving when the light goes out made my heart anxious 😬
20:37 their dialogue is basically the older woman saying that this is all for madam's sake. She didn't want madam's condition to ruin the lord's mood. A lot of letsplays did the same thing and interrupted to conversation.
To answer Gab’s question about how someone would know the characters without knowing Chinese, the game was made originally in Chinese, by Chinese creators, so I doubt they thought about strictly changing their assets on the compass to English
You know the protagonist has had enough when he's using muzzle loading black powder pistols to beat up ghosts

The thing that always bothered me about this game and I vaguely remember it bothering me from the first part to is your playable characters total lack of going fast ever. Seven ghosts after your giblets and you are content to take a leasurely walk in the other direction lol. Technically I can't even critisize it though because it honestly makes and already scary game even more tense
I remember back in Chapter 1, there is a super difficult puzzle that many gamers struggled with.

Gab, DLC for Paper Dolls 2 comes out around Halloween (noticed it on steam earlier, so I thought I'd drop a message). It would be great to see you play that out. It looks to be a free DLC too. // WASD: Wankers, Ass, Sass & Dicks. *chuckles* it gets stuck in your head after a while. I mean, I know how old the video is, but the words make you laugh your butt off. EDIT: Hope you found the DLC. Apparently you get to be an exorcist in it.

The first puzzle is also kind of like the one in the first chapter, where u have to go through a specific color door. But I am really glad u are playing this, didn't know u had played this first one, will give it a watch.

The running in this game looks broken to me. It's exactly the same pace from the 1st Chapter so it amuses me that the developers really want it to be like that. That stamina feels absolutely terrible.

Just passing by after watching your latest stream, Gab! I tried analyzing as well on what went wrong with the missing spring and sadly it does really look like a bug. I thought you did the other option between sacrificing/killing a doll with the guide you checked, but you both did the same thing. I think the game bugged because you left without the spirit finishing most of its dialogue. Sad. Hope the devs can give you a save.

I'm Chinese. I know it's all Chinese superstition. It has something to do with Feng Shui. I've seen a more complicated compass than in the game. It was given to my father by a fortune teller before he died. I don't understand why he had to let his son give it to my father. What happened later... It wasn't very good. Fortunately, it's all solved now. Even if I'm an atheist. Lighters really work.
Amazing how you can endure this walk speed. Refunded it after the first shadow crawler. Walking away from monsters like a grandma is not very believable or immersive, on top of being annoying. Why can't horror games go back to the 3rd person style with actual gameplay and weapons... Silent Hill left a big hole and nothing can fill the gap since Amnesia and screaming streamers degenerated the horror genre
