PART 2 HERE tomorrow: ua-cam.com/video/znzX-SK5pms/v-deo.html 9 Jan 2020, 5pm UK / 12pm EST / 9am PST
First quest of many I hope
Absolutely lovely!
What an amazing present to have part 2 come out on my birthday
You guys forgot an important role clean up crew.
We can consider Edvard basically invulnerable to outside threats because there’s no way this guy doesn’t get killed by his own creation
Good point, well made
Good ol' plot armor, ey?
Superior Petard, better than any stupid Astrid petard...
ALL I want to do is create the PERFECT genetic SOLDIER
Problem with that (and annoyance to him) is that much of outside do not use his creations.
I will literally never get tired of Mike explaining that he is, in fact, not the third butcher in his family, but the third Barnaby Fortesque
But not the third to handle the meat...heyo!
He is the new Henry Charles Fontleroy Stripworth Calcahoun the 3rd at your service.
@@xynatkarn4187 I've learned that it's spelled Colquhoun, and is a real Scottish Gaelic name
We have the same picture. I have nothing further to add.
I love how Zillah's concept art is clearly just Jane with 40-50 pounds of muscle added on.
If you're going to have concept art of your character, why not make it aspirational, too?
As they say... See what can be, not just what is. ;-)
It feels so unnecessary.
I was already attracted to Jane
Same plus like Prudence Zillah’s quite like how Jane actually is as herself 😁 Still a bit surprised Ellen chose the character that’s interested in the dark arts for these and not Jane 😮
I love how Mike’s character seems to be just a Victorian manifestation of Egbert’s party shenanigans in Heist Society and Exhibition Impossible
That's what I thought!
Heist Society, perhaps, but it's not Exhibition Impossible until Barnaby whacks an old guy with an enchanted mace.
@Evelyn Gutierrez ghosts are for common folk. A man of breeding and money like Barnaby would never put stock in such fanciful notions
@@gamecavalier3230 in the Tasha episode where they make new characters Mike admits a love for making "annoying" characters
@@GriffinWolf Your making a pretty big assumption in assuming he hasn’t already.
Why's nobody talking about Jane's _"sir this an antique shop"_ during Andy's rant?
Timestamp?
Around 5:27
By god, Johnny can be REALLY SERIOUS when he needs be. Kasimir is super intense lol
That’s actually Johnny’s brother Kasimir who is a real life criminal.
His makeup looks pretty badass too. :D
Kasimir was a reeeaaally common male cat name in germany around the years 2000 xD
It’s the hair
I already love Kasimir
Edvard: *rambling about his rival's misdeeds*
Zillah: Sir, this is an antique shop
Oh my god, Andy is Nikola Tesla.
And its the best can’t wait for the inevitable confrontation with edison
I am here for it!
@@bbug1017 *same*
I'm so hyped. I love the way that Aster/Edison keeps abusing animals as public ways for reasons to discredit Edvard-which is historically accurate. Wouldn't expect anything less from a Historian like Andy.
Also I love how the character art even *looks* like Tesla.
I loved this introduction so much.
@@Crisjola "but as luck would have it, he fed a bunch of locks to some penguin's and they all died"
All I can think about is Andy just constantly having to refill the booze in his tiny little teacup off-screen. Pure dedication to character work.
Calling it now, he's going to invent some sort of hands free booze contraption. Much like the automated eyepatch!
Jane is so glamourous it's unfair, but of the five I'm loving Mike's new character. It's like Egbert was built in a hurry and now he understands who he wants to RP as.
You could really see Mike's growth in that Tasha's Cauldron video, and now he's grown up into the third butcher!
Andy married Jane for good reason. She's lovely and brilliant.
@@maverickofkain learn something new every day.
@@maverickofkain I am pretty sure that's not true. Where did you get this info?
I know they don't like sharing personal info about their lives, but if Jane and Andy are married that is some real dedication to privacy pretending that they don't live together during lockdown
Johnny: “I’m too nervous to do the voice.”
Andy: “Hold my beer!”
Correction: “Hold my glass of wine, I don’t want to spill any on my nice coat”.
@@Moredistress but if I know Barnaby he still will before the night is out
Barnaby is killing me. "Nothing bad has ever happened to me in my entire life. I don't think it's gonna start now."
I tried so hard not to like Barnaby….didn’t work. Love him!
Andy was born in the drama, raised in the drama. He didn't discover the mundane until he was already a man.
That should be a plaque in his office!
“The drama betrayed you, because they belong to me.”
(…which is a headache, you don’t want that.)
Johnny is like a proud dad every time Luke calls for the right mechanic and creates a new bit of the story. Even with his approach to character building he's taken a role where he can help out if needed or sit back and watch everything unfold. He seems like such a good bloke to play with and his commitment to the character is superb.
Absolutely and it's really lovely. They're always ready to offer help, gently nudge Luke or the others in the right direction with the mechanics (in a supportive/friendly way) and be completely willing to sit back and watch people enjoy the role-playing process, whilst also being open to leaning into their own character. I think they've talked about the collaborative process of ttrpgs makes half the fun. You can really see the support they give in the videos on Dicebreaker where Johnny talked Luke through the dnd dm process for Luke, where Luke eventually ran one of the Oxventure campaigns, baby Prudence ep (I've been rewatching all the Oxventure from the very beginning and now I'm done, so I've moved on this). One day, if I ever get around to playing dnd I hope I end up with a dm like Johnny or Luke (and a group like the others).
Luke: Andy would you like to introduce yourself
Andy: starts screaming
That’s as on brand as Mike infuriating Andy with his shenanigans 😂🤣😂🤣
I desperately want Squiffy's intel to become a recurring thing lol
Not since Chauncey have I so loved a character who never actually appeared
We absolutely need more of the classic lad Squiffy
Odds are he'll have had an affair with every noble woman in the city. Plenty of back-of-the-envelope maps of questionable usefulness there.
It would be cool but one successful roll regarding are lad and the joke would be spoiled.
@@dallydaydream Wait, didn't they bluff Chauncey into delivering a warning or abandoning his post- Didn't Shattershield assign Chauncey to guarding their water supply or something?
"I'm starting another clock... Called... Uh... P a n i c."
Heckin gold
I love seeing how into this Johnny is. Every time they go for a new mechanic his face lights up. This is going to be just as good as the Oxventurers guild.
"I invented a device to help communicate over long distances, he held a live demonstration where he used one, to beat a horse to death, and now everyone thinks they're unsafe!" had me dying!
Reminds me of the Edison/Tesla rivalry...
Just like the horse!
I'm expecting Barnaby to reveal that he's called "the Butcher" because he bought a sausage factory, and he's completely useless in a scrap.
Obviously
Lol yes. From the trailer I assumed he would be playing some kind of gentleman heavy. Having seen him in action I'm intriged how he got such a moniker.
I don't know. From his character class it hit me that everything is a lie. So I now suspect that Barnaby is a persona carefully constructed by a grifter with no actual wealth
I think he might be a butcher in that he's a serial killer... just so adept at blending in that nobody notices...
@@CrimBlack you think he's trying to blend in by calling himself "the Butcher?" I suppose that matches Mike's playstyle...
I like how distinctly British crime this feels like Guy Ritchie was directing it. Also, really loving the characters, especially Johnny and Andy's portrayals.
A Guy Ritchie movie set in the Blades in the Dark universe... Now, that I would pay to see.
A great way to introduce everyone to the Blades in the dark world and an awesome new crew! Also I will die for Kasimir.
I dunno, something about the spurned inventor in Edvard makes me think he's Best Boy. (Tbh I just have a spot for Tesla irl so Andy's homage to him is incredibly endearing.)
I will not stand for this disrespect of the true best lad, Squiffy.
Anyone else is intrigued and horrified at the idea of Mike playing social stealth character?
As I understand it, social stealth he's mostly okay with, even his favourite playstyle in VtM Bloodlines is the snob charmer.
It's just the "standard" kind of stealth that he doesn't have much patience (but has explosives too many) for.
Kinda wanted him to play as a whisper so one character he plays adamantly refuses to believe in ghosts and his other character literally talks to them. Also they’re related. In my head canon.
@@zulubunsen9067 I read "explosives" as "expletives" and somehow the sentence still works.
It is fun to see all of them playing characters that are against the type they established in D&D. Andy went from a chatty Pirate 47 to aggressive Nikola Tesla, Ellen went from "I love nature, I just murder a lot accidentally" to "Let's take care of these ghost children, also my thesis", Jane from an explosively selfish and cruel "I'll swallow your soul!" type to a reserved, quiet brawler, Mike from Egbert, the poor sap who gets constantly disrespected by the rest of the team (especially Corazón) for being a bit of a dummy, into Barnaby, the slick and suave gentleman who can chat your ear off.
The biggest transformation is Luke, who went from "Haha, I say things mostly for the lulz and occasionally help the team with an actually clever thing, but mostly stupid gags" to a very good DM who can paint a great picture and engage with his players rather well.
Johnny went from a funny, super open to suggestions, "eh sure why not?" mastermind behind the Oxventures to a really serious mastermind and planner for this crew. So for him, it was mainly a downgrade in power levels, but it's really interesting to see him as a player in a world not his own.
Mike be like: Ok I need to go a this stealthily
Five minutes later: [Alternate Doom 2016 Box art with extra explosions]
Luke: for this game I’m going to need everyone to put on their sexiest outfit
Me: I think Mike missed the memo
Mike: *picks up his glass*
Me: never mind
Johnny and Ellen didn't miss the memo. Johnny's jacket is top notch.
@The Gaming Meta Before today I didn't know you could unrepress a memory you haven't fully repressed yet but here we are.
Jane mimed pulling the rope for that dumbwaiter and I was like... Miss Douglas? Ma'am? I'm pretty sure it's illegal to look that good.
Also Andy in that suit. If only there were proms for American college students... and also if only it weren't weird to ask a UA-cam gaming journalist to be your date to the prom.
Jane just woke up and flipped on the camera then
@@blakearmentrout7717 not mike, he looks like a regular 21st century person
I love how Andy goes from 0-100 in one second and Ellen, like always, plays the weird one. Also, I love Johnny, he's passively judging everyone as he attempts (being interrupted quite a bit) to amazingly roleplay such a cool character!
Are we not going to talk about how freaking funny Barnaby "The Butcher" is? Because I'm in stitches at his every word and it's amazing.
I love how Mike takes a drink every time he has to talk. Barnaby walking around town with a jug of beer and a drinking glass is a heck of a headcanon.
@@jothamfunclara6583Given that I think he's reserved the entirety of his load for alcohol in pretty much every single job, I think that's more than a headcanon
29:15 I love that they start shouting at each other just as they are starting the super-sneaky heist. And Edvard's "It's supposed to do that" was perfect! "It's a cigar lighter, too!"
" .. beat a horse to death .. ", I almost choked on my mac and cheese. Lols ahoy
I like how Jane will switch up her character just enough to still be viciously brutal in combat.
Luke’s imagination and that child like joy he has is going to serve him well as a GM. My old GM always told me I’d be a great one, because he’s never had a player railroad him as hard. So surely that will work for Luke too (because Dob can train wreck!)
no matter what intriguing character has been expertly crafted from the fine tapestries of his mind palace, Andy is always the god of swag.
I see that lady works under the Spacer´s Choice policy of inheritence. The person standing closest to the dead guy is now the one with the problem.
Loving this team already. I wish that we heard more from Ellen, but it is generally her style of play to be one of the quieter players. Absolutely loving Jane as a muscle character. (Loving them all, but hers was the most different from how we've seen her before)
Imagine an episode starring EG as a rival gang. The muscle in that group will definitely be Aoife. :-D
I do like how Andy's light's reflection makes it look like he has electric glasses.
Far superior to Astor electric glasses, but Astor held a public demonstration where he dropkicked a chinchilla while wearing them so now no one will buy them
I'm in love with how IMMEDIATELY on board everyone is for Edvard's Whole Deal. the only thing between Volisport and Edvard's limitless rage is his moustache and four people who literally just met him
The moment Andy started talking I knew he would be my favourite character
This applies to every time Andy speaks, not just here.
Oh Squiffy! I can already tell this spin off is going to be great, that world crafting Luke *chef's kiss*. I really loved the character work from everybody, Edvard's backstory was particularly entertaining and when is player Johnny not a treat to see, awesome.
Looking forward to part 2.
Andy always seems to have the most fun with his characters
He is a method actor for sure, compared to the others!
Andy's intense Nikola Tesla energy is exactly what I didn't know I needed.
Ellen rocking that elf assassin look. Mike looks like he's about to drop a mixtape 🤣
I love Andys "subtle" references to Tesla Vs. Edison feud!
Lillith takes stress, 40 seconds later Ellen takes stress.
Underrated!
"Only half of you make it up before the cops show up." is a great 4-5 on an engagement roll, good show Luke.
Imagine these characters being very distant descendants of the Oventurers...
Some may be, but others should be able to meet Merilwen.
Because elves live for like 700 years, or something like that? Makes sense.
True, but Merilwen can have kids during her life, so one of them may well be her descendant.
Also a valid point.
Also Percy, i.e. Corazon came from a long line of pirates and criminal entrepreneurs... he just might have a whole legacy here!
Took about 2 minutes or less to basically fall in love with everybody, all over again.
I love how Barnaby could have easily solved their debt problem but won’t cause nothing bad has ever happened to him.
He's doing crime for the novelty of it, anyway. The debt is as good excuse as any, so he's not going to just solve the problem by throwing money at it. That's the normal way. Where's the excitement?
If at any point in the future Zillah does something outragous and no-one says "Oh my God, Zillah" I will be SO disappointed
You are talking about the Oxventure crew. Puns are their bread and butter! We only need to wait for one to have the balls to pull out this poor pun.
But doesn't that mean there is a bigger, stronger asian Version of Jane?
I feel like we just might see a Mecha-Zillah in this setting...
I am so excited for this. I was just rereading and getting excited about Blades in the Dark, can't wait for Oventure to do it. Love the Victorian gothic aesthetic and the gang heist action. I'll be watching the premiere of something for the first time ever
Jane's gone for the moody stare/too much eyeliner aesthetic, it would seem. We've all been there...
Going back to binge this wonderful series because Luke's brilliant DMing gave me the push to finally try and run my own game in a few weeks!
Johnny is a bit too believable as Kasimir... sort of terrifying but I love it.
I love the voice and the steely eyes
Maybe Johnny is merely a role he plays. There is only Kasimir!
He's basically the embodiment of Impostor Johnny during Hide-And-Seek
Especially when his lighting goes dim by the end
The lighting and his gaze help.
So looking forward to this, love Oxventure so much. Looking forward to seeing more storytelling from Luke. Plus Johnny gets a chance to derail a session for once.
Maybe in few months Luke will do a video of "7 times my players derailed me"
"I take all the lake and put it in gold pouches"
"I take the baby out of the pupoose and make him follow us on foot. What? He's 4? Too bad, he's 40, now!"
I think Johnny's too polite to derail to hard and seeing as Luke is kind of his protégé I expect he feels a bit of responsibility to keep the others on track, for now anyway. Give it a couple of weeks and he'll be giving Luke nightmares lol.
Since stress is the main mechanic would it be possible to get a stress counter on screen fr each character?
A bit like Mob Psycho 100, I love it.
When do we find out that Astor is a distant relative of M Chanail?
Everyone but Andy: (a casual introduction and description)
Andy: (the most theatrical and appealing introduction to ever happen)
Seems about right
Andy is a tornado of drama!
And had nice call backs to history (Tesla)
Video: End of Intermission.
UA-cam: Goes to ad break.
... UA-cam clearly doesn't get intermissions...
So I'm assuming that Zillah is a descendant of Prudence someway some how.
I would put more money on her descendant being Lilith, given the arcane knowledge stuff.
nahh, just her reincarnation or somethin' lol
“We won’t get murdered. Don’t be dramatic” oh boy.. why would you say that in a game full of murder? 🤣
to make it more funny.
"What are you gonna do? Stab me?" - their last words.
We're about a year into a blades playthrough without killing anyone.
The year is still young. Young for a murdering.. 🤣
@@najibzulkafli5820 we have some vampires to kill but still not worked out how yet.
So is Lilith's PHD a PostHumous Doctorate?

SPOILER WARNING FOR NEWCOMERS: I absolutely love rewatching this episode having seen the whole series, as literally the first thing Ellen says as Lilith is basically "I am Lilith Myhairissnakes"
on the rewatch, I've just noticed the pattern on Andy's jacket, that's some posh costume he's got on!
Super hyped for this. Can't be there for the premiere, but I'll definitely be watching the VOD tomorrow night.
Was having a terrible week and a terrible day but this, this truly helped me get back to feeling better. Can already tell Barnaby and Edvard are going to be quite the people. Already in love with this team
I can’t unsee Jane as Lara Croft
a buff lara croft
Probably had the outfit since Halloween 15yrs ago
I see Tifa
The way Andy just 200% percent COMMITS to his roles makes me so happy
What I love about Blades in the Dark is how it can make a tea cup breaking into the most stressful thing imaginable
I love how super into the setting Johnny is, everytime he catches himself smirking or lightening up he immediately dim himself down to fit with the narrative of the street-roughed hardened criminal.
"Nothing bad has ever happened to me in my entire life, I don't think it's going to start now."
I know hindsight is 20/20 but I love the fact he said that before the two adventures where he got threatened, knocked out, forced to change clothes, nearly had his reputation ruined, almost exposed for being a criminal and had to buy a new coat twice in a row.
I love the editting style. Much more engaging than just the static look of zoom screens
True true! Can really enjoy the effort that was put into making it.
Edit: just noticed it didn't make sense. Changed it now. Thanks for not laughing at the mistake
I also love that it has a distinct style, separate from that of the original Oxventure. Two different vibes for two very different roleplaying systems :)
Loving it! Favourite character so far has got to be Squiffy. What an absolute lad. Lovely bloke.
Mumbles from the future of this video probably: Hold my juicebox 🧃
Oh Yeah let's go! Can't be there on the premiers but I will be watching them each night before bed.
I very much enjoyed that quick set up. "You're here, so you owe me money now! Bye!"
I allready ordered a copy of blades in the dark 5 minutes in
I would like to note that in Tagalog Lilith's name sounds like the words "liit" and "liliit" which mean "small" and "will get smaller."
And here I thought the small medium at large joke was the full extent of the Ellen character puns.
Always found you guys hilarious, but beginning to release Mike in particular is lowkey one of the funniest people I've seen. He's lightning quick.
18:50 Spoiler: When Kasimir says "Hey, Pythons" he's referring to Zillah, and her muscular arms. If you'll notice, Lilith makes a minor reaction, possibly confused or concerned that he's referring to her. The spoiler is that she actually has a demon heritage, and this is demonstrated by the fact she has snakes for hair (Medusa style). This is why she's always wearing a hood, to cover them up. Some good roleplaying on Ellen's part.
Wow, i hadn't noticed that, even rewatching many times, that is amazing attention to detail
this was a lot of fun! looking forward to more OXventures in the Dark!
i love how johnny is watching luke like a proud dad
Johnny's stare is absolutely amazing
Andy’s ring light reflecting off his glasses makes me think Edvard invented some glasses that illuminates what he sees, like the game boy peripheral.
I love how everyone cosplayed their characters, except mike
I love how you can see the moment Johnny fully settled into character
Loving this... going back and rewatching it, and it's basically a primer on every bit of running the game..... well done. My favorite series!
I know I’m not the only one who saw Kasimir’s pic in a thumbnail and got excited for RKG’s Gav to be joining the gang
And here I start my third rewatch of the series because I miss it so much
Heh, Johnny looks like he belongs in an early 2000s Guy Ritchie film.
I'm so excited for this! I've watched the trailer a few times now, and Mike's character intro makes me laugh every time
How does news of a city existing in Geth full of ghosts effect Eggbert's beliefs in ghosts? Or rather, his belief in this city XD
He's never seen this city you speak of, so it probably doesn't actually exist.
I believe this takes place long after the original Oxventure, so unless he’s somehow immortal, which now I say it isn’t that unlikely given Egbert, he’s probably not around to disbelieve it.
Depending on how long ghosts stick around, its quite possible he and the rest of the adventure murder hobos are responsible for the ghost
@@SorowFame oh, also! We don't know when the city was founded, and given that it's on the other side of the G'Eth continent, it's possible the murder hobos could bring about its creation! THERE'S an Oxventure for you!
Here's a twist for you: Many centuries ago, Volisport had another name: Necropolis-On-Sea.
When Jane's introduction comes with a gun show, you know it's going to be an odd (but fun) adventure.
I need to know why Jane owns such impractical gloves... And where she got them of course.
They look like Barehands gloves. Designed to reduce callous development when using barbells.
Woohoo! Tomorrow’s gonna be a good day!
Just revised this after finishing the finale. I love this introduction and setup for a first episode. It's so smooth
I'm gonna go sleep for 18 hours until it's aired.

@@noogidoo2217 thank dear I'm swimming in the live chat now.
I love how Andy has a French accent only when saying his character's name and never again.
18:49!!!! Ellen's face after!!!!!! knowing what happens later in the series, i am so fascinated to see how established the lore is even in episode one!!! Lilith became one of my fave ever rpg live play characters ever from this series alone, Ellen, you are BRILLIANT!!
Jane's look is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Just about to watch. Everyone's costumes are amazing!! Jane looks like a bad-ss, Andy's dapper AF, Johnny's sporting Thug Life, Ellen's face wreathed by her hair and good makes her Spooky AF, and Mike's a cereal ( serial lol ) killer.
I'm hooked! If it's possible, I'd like to see premieres like these than streams. Editing really makes a difference. Even if it simply means zooming in on the person who's talking.
I thought that “at your service” would be part of Barnaby’s name, and that he would be the desendant of Henry fontleworth.
Henry Charles Fauntleroy Stripworth Colqahoun the Third At Your Service.
Ya gotta say the whole name or it doesn't count.
