- Week ten of SMFR Fire Academy is all about wildland firefighting. The recruits take a trip to the Douglas County Law Enforcement Training Center to learn how to work with progressive hose line packs, do mobile attack and dig line.
This evening is my first shift as a volunteer firefighter wish me luck
You are a great person🌹🌹 good luck
How did that first shift go?
@@HS-sz5ui Good, thank you.

I just binge watched the first nine weeks so I'm super psyched to find that 10 just got posted right after I finished! Theyre all great videos, keep up the amazing work
Connor you are doing a great job as a pio. Keep it up. I love these videos.
Did 3 seasons on a wildland handcrew in California. Dug many miles of line and layed many miles of hose. The best part was saw operations. Surprised they don't use McLeods or Pulaskis anymore, look like hand tools are more specialized now. Best vlog yet. Keep one foot in the black.
It’s department dependent, we still use both at my department
Aloha from Hawaii, I am following your journey along recruit class. We are 1/2 way through our Recruit class training for our local Fire department and these videos have been super inspirational.
Thanks Connor for another informational and awesome video 😀😀😎 this is great learning about the brush truck and its capacities during a fire. You look so professional and you're doing an awesome job as PIO ... Keep on going strong 👏👏
These videos are so great. I'm bummed I'm not gonna be around to see the rest of the training episodes for awhile. Inspirational and very informational stuff!!
I must admit, it feels so freaking relatable watching them do all that Bush work out there while I did it ALOT during the Australian Bushfire season.. needless to say I grew biceps and lost 100 tonnes in sweat! we use the use of the hand tools to say "Welcome to the Rural Fire Service, what if we said this is only the beginning?!" gets them everytime! ahaha. I love instructing in the NSW Rural Fire Service! :)
Yay!!!!! SMFR Week 10 👩🚒👨🚒
I hope i pass my exam this morning. This is incredible!
Looking forward to watch it!
Thanks Conner
im with us forestry and goin into structure next yr this cool to see
Great job keep working hard
My dream job is to be a brush fire fighter out here in south California, these vids keep my dream alive, fyi Disney’s planes 2 fire and rescue great movie for kids lol
Try working for BLM or Forest service.,i worked for both in southern cali. I think the season already started tho
It’s pretty easy to become a wildland firefighter. Someone is always hiring
@@MrAdrian13 unfourtently I have medical issues preventing me from being accepted, same when I tried military but thank you for the reply :)
@@Solvang_circus ohh copy that. Then I wouldn’t recommend it. You need to be 100% for these jobs. I’m on a hotshot crew and it’s extremely taxing in every way
@@MrAdrian13 wow thank you bro that’s a intense job, when we lost the 17 one was from my area. Needless to say Disney’s planes 2 the “fire and rescue” wasn’t a very popular movie round these parts
Could we start doing shout outs? Love the video keep it up. 👍
Great videos, I’m just wondering what color helmets your Lt’s wear? As I see the recruits have yellow helmets.
Do yall use leaf blowers. They have been very helpful with grass and brush fires.
"just take the truck into the black" until the wind suddenly changes. Wildland firefighting, was the worst and scariest fires I fought. structures are easy, they stand still. Forests can quickly surround and trap you.
So Brush 36 does the Truck have a Pump-and-Roll System (where the Pump is hoked up to the Engine) or the normal Driving Engine and a separate Pump?
Would love to become a PIO with south metro but do you have to be a US citizen or a permanent resident in the US
Just curious on how to get on the wildland team at south metro?
I'm going to Jobcorps for wildland Firefighting, Should I choose a fire academy like this or a wildland focused academy? Btw, love what your doing keep up the great work.
Can you guys do a fleet Friday for the brush truck
Hi Conner what has been your favourite part of fire academy so far
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO thank you for always replying and you and the whole of SMFR for your amazing work
is this for the public or future firemen?
Um... what happened to West Metro Fire Rescue?
How can a fire apparatus, like an engine truck, pump water while is moving???
They have to disengage the traction to use the pump.
Most of the wildland fire apparatus have auxiliary water pumps separate from the vehicle motor.
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO
They have a second engine???
One for moving and the other for pumping???
I just know the Renault Camiva 180, wich is the most common in Chile. But you need to be stationed to pump water from the 4000 Lt tank.
@@alfe1402 They have a standard motor to drive and move the apparatus and a smaller motor mounted somewhere on the truck to pump water. Some of those can be started inside the cab, others are mounted on the rear of the truck and a firefighter has to step out to use the ignition.
Why in brush 36 is there ammo cans
Hey, I Live in Douglas County!
I’m at fire camp too
Are you guys going to be out at the prosession today?
Hitting P official wat funeral procession
@@larrygunderman4207 We had a trooper hit and killed over the weekend. R.I.P
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO That is really cool, when is that video coming out?
Will this be what there going to be doing in 2020 and or 2025?
Do ya get paid when in the academy?
Yes. At South Metro Academy Recruits are employees who receive pay and benefits while training.
I was not first major oof
А чё на русский перевести слабо, Ютуб?!
Great videos, I’m just wondering what color helmets your Lt’s wear? As I see the recruits have yellow helmets.
Ryan Janowski
I’m pretty sure all officers wear Black with a different shield like in New York
Or Captains and Lt’s both wear red
