"Reputations are really hard to build, but take seconds to break" I hope everyone realizes what that guy said cant be more true.
True, like right now, you can work hard to build one for a life and one single person can ruin it
@@dawsont933 No. You are in control of your reputation. The statement is a reflection of accountability. What you're saying dismisses accountability. "you can work hard to build one for a life and one single person can ruin it"; you have control of your reputation. Your name can be dragged through the mud, you can be lied about, but ultimately you are responsible for your reputation and his statement is speaking to making a mistake (personal accountability) and how that can impact your reputation as a whole.

Yep
Right !!!
That’s pretty sad actually. It’s a job, nothing more. If you’re a new guy… sure that’s fine. But if you over romanticize it, you buy into the hype. Then you become the guy that associates who you are, with what you do for a living. That’s not healthy. Eventually you become the dude who can’t walk away when you should. Nothing sadder or more pathetic, than a guy who can retire, but has nothing better goin on in his life, because he let the job become part of his identity.
@@spfdff okay you edge lord, you do you.
@@spfdff please tell me your not a karate instructor
@sdfdff that’s a good point. However, some truly love that and don’t see it as an issue neither does it become one. It sound like a “to each his own” scenario. There is something for everyone to become overzealous for, right?
Just got accepted into the metro fire dept where I live. We’re a city of 1,000,000 total population. I start in April 2020

My dad is one, and that’s what I want to do for the rest of my life
It's a calling.
Do it, you won't regret it
Finally! A Fire / EMS related spot that is not fluffed up, "we fight what you fear" propaganda. This is a very well done example of a typical duty shift....... and your department's Class 1 rating shows in your PIO production value, as well as your crew's conduct. Strong work all around.
No shit
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO
Can you guys use an old, washed-up veteran of 30 years of Public Safety dispatching? I would love to see a coverage map of your district.
I mean Im just being honest, you can't really have "propaganda" in a fire/ems video. "We fight what you fear" yes granted its definitely exaggerating but its also literally the truth. Theyre the ones going inside while everyones running out
cant you just enjoy the video without making it a big deal
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIOhi good job
My dad has been a fire fighter for Los Angeles County for 30 years. I almost followed in his footsteps and became a certified EMT, passed the CPAT fitness test and ended up taking the LA County written exam. What’s not talked about enough is how much stress these men/women are constantly under and the toll it takes on their physical/mental health. My dad was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer roughly 15 years into his career at the age of 41 and fought it for 2 years while continuing to work in the station. Fast forward 15 years later, he’s now 56 and just had 3 stents put in his heart in order to prevent a fatal heart attack. 2 of his arteries were 90% occluded and the 3rd was 80% occluded. It’s a miracle that the doctors found the clogged arteries before it was too late. He has been in great shape his whole career and maintained a healthy diet. Roughly 45% of fire fighter on duty deaths are heart attacks and according to the CDC, the number 1 killer of firefighters is cancer. Their life expectancy is also about 10 years less than the average person. Its a greatly respected profession and large departments pay extremely well. I understand that what firefighters are exposed to comes with the job. But I believe more attention and prevention practices should be brought to the health of firefighters and how they can potentially prevent disease and serious health problems.
I have been a fire fighter EMT for citronelle fire department for 8 years. I have had more than my share of calls, including some one killing themselves, before my own eyes.
Why do most of them suffer from heart attacks???
@@Shamrocknails89 I am assuming because of all of the stress they are under all the time
Wow I’m sorry to hear that. By chance did your father have any bad habits like smoking or drinking? Also LA is very busy I can only imagine how busy they are 24/7. Also, don’t let that deter you. Heart attacks are the number one cause of death in America no matter what career path you choose.
do you know what gives firefighters cancer?? Is it cause inhaling alot of smoke?
Would love to see more of these videos "Day in the life of Firefighter,Officer, Engineer, Battalion Chief, etc etc." Keep up the great work.

Look at the tax base...!!!! however funny that may seem looking at areas like say north jersey Paramus NJ were there is very little incidents yet massive independent fire depts. extremely high value real estate. some combo departments with massive amounts of equipment spending, on many levels of the budget does sometimes seem to nott make sense, and extremely excessive.. However If one 20k tool such as a thermal camera gets used once to save a life it make sense. But yeah some say that the spending is a bit much

Major props to firefighters everywhere. I'm taking up volunteer firefighting when I get out of the Army. I'm also an Eagle Scout so I've learned my whole life about helping other people, because sometimes in life, you're not your own top priority.
What are the steps to volunteer
This was an awesome review of a fire fighter's life. Let's those who might be interested have a reality check. I really like the part when another fire truck was responding to a different call, siren blazing, and you still get that adrenalin rush even though you ride in a fire truck all the time. I did just before you mentioned it. I was an LEO, and an EMT on an ambulance service for years and I still get that rush. It just never gets old. Great Video.

If you’re a firefighter and you don’t get excited every time you see a truck fly by going to a call, you don’t truly love the job. In my opinion at least
Did you feel that way before becoming a Firefighter? Or did it start after?
Datman definitely before. My dad became a firefighter before I was even born so o guess being excited seeing a truck going to a call is in my blood. But honestly it depends on the person. Many people aren’t as lucky to be born into the brotherhood.
Agree
@Nathan Cook That's such a sweet childhood memory/ education. I'm a 23 y/o girl and my whole life was fascinated and adored fire fighting. Are there any girls with you? I was 3 years in a combat unit in the army but it was girls only. Whichever guys we met/ collaborated with always (almost) had a lot of respect for us and it went great. I am very curious to know, if you have any experience, what is your impression on women fire fighters. This is my dream and my only worries are 2: Not if I could do it but- if a man could do it better than me meaning- would people be safer if I wasn't the one on call? And 2- I'm not worried about now when I'm under thirty, I'm more worried about when I'll want to have children, and be say 30-40 plus- do you still see women in the force at that age? Anyone who has an intake I would love to hear it
