I just binged this whole series because I was looking for something that would give me an idea for what to expect when I go into my local academy. I go in 3 days and this really helped me get an idea. Thank you.
There was something subtly sad about this video. It's so unfortunate that active shooter situations are so frequent that they need to train firefighters on how to deal with them. Don't get me wrong I'm glad they do, but it's heartbreaking in a way
Congratulations to my Sisters & Brothers of SMFR Class 19-01. Your training is over, but you're learning has just begun, take note of the things that you see and do in the real world of Firefighting/EMS and use them to better yourselves. I have watched every video since your first one and I am impressed by your training, I only wish that we had fire academies like yours back in the '70's & '80's. Be safe and be careful, God Bless you all! Retired Deputy Fire Chief J. Serow
Having just recently graduating the DoD Fire Academy at Goodfellow AFB, I looked forward to watching every weekly video. It's been fun following this SMFR series. Well done and congrats to all the recruits.
To the class of 19-1 may God be with you and protect you each and ever day on and off duty and watch over your family when you are away. Job well done and god Speed as you start your career. God Bless you all
Wow... this is phenominal. All we do here is All Hazards 305 and as non Fire personnel we do certain courses through a training from a course called blue card. But that's all we do together. We can learn a lot from this. Congratulations to all these new leaders and protectors. Do it well, but do it safely and wisely.... God bless. From your friends in the Arizona Highway patrol Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Happy to see the all graduate and We wish them all the best. May god protect them all in their service. (Sad to see this as the last recruit episode. Loved it every week!!!!)
Good job and good luck firefighters that are going into the South Metro fire department keep up the good work for protecting the South Metro area 👍🇺🇸🚒🚑❤
This made me really emotional, happy and proud. I am so proud of these 23 recruits that I have spent the past week watching. I feel like I grew a bond with each and everyone of them. Watching this gave me a new perspective on life and I look up to fellow military law enforcements. Good luck out there. Also could we maybe see an update on class 19-1.
nice to see these students actually being taught! outstanding job.! seen so many of these other academies where the cadre just see how many they can get to quit of flunk out. one again great job teaching!
South Metro Fire, I love your videos and think it be cool on a up coming video of “Day and Life Of A FireFighter” you do one of these probationary firefighters as in of the videos
That intro gave me chills. They worked there asses off to graduate. I start the Fire Academy April 6th at TEEX in Texas and I'm pumped and scared at the same time lol.
Hello, long shot but i’m currently 14 years old in Scotland. If I move to chicago at 18 could I apply to the academy at 21 or do you have to be native.
So I want to be a firefighter when i'm older but i'm just worried about the fitness aspect of it because i'm not that good at it yet. What is the best way to prepare for fire academy in any place? I live in Windsor Colorado and when i'm in high school, (i'm going into 8th) i'm going to go to the Aims Collage Academy fire academy and get collage credit. So what is the best way to prepare for fire academy?
So Med 1 is the SWAT trained medics? Are they firefighters cross trained as SWAT or Deputies cross trained as firefighters? I wasn't sure what they were, I was driving alongside them the other day on I-25 and was wondering.
Couod you do a unscrpited for the swat medics that are on the sheriff dept and the gear that the swat medics have and the gear all the firefighters have.
I just watched all 16 episodes. Thank you for putting this together. Great team, great training. As a volunteer FF it's amazing what the recruits go through all in a series. Well done 19-1
It's so sad that you actually have to train this. I'm a paramedic myself, but in a country with waaaaay less gun violence than the US, and I don't know if I'd be brave enough to go into an active shooter situation. I'd rather walk into a dozen structure fires.
Kind of sad when the captain said that this wave of recruits will be able to teach the next wave implying that mass casualties and shootings will continue to happen which is sad. 4:25
I noticed that also. My department's recruit academy is run like military boot camp. Our graduating recruit classes put on live demonstrations for family and people in attendance on graduation day. We perform auto extrication, vertical ventilation, repelling and more. It's also really cool that we give each graduating recruit a choice of having the Fire Chief or a family member pin their badge on their chest after getting sworn in.
Wow I wish our fire Academy did swat training. Can’t believe they’re already going so fast. Love the video keep it up
I’ve been here since day one I’m so proud of you I can’t wait till I Graduate in firefighting I’m now I’m moving to Colorado
This is my dream department to work at!!!
Nice video once again
Our training is 8 months long. I kind of wish our training was like this

As long as you have the proper papers you can get a job. No need to be born here. :)

I love watching you guys! I will become a firefighter myself. Keep it up !!

Stay safe 🧑🏻🚒
My fire academy is 10 months lol
How much do they make?
Does anybody know what the difference is between the valedictorian award and the top recruit award?

Every firefighter and EMT should carry a pistol in case if they DO come into contact with a threat and they have no other way to protect themselves
That's what I think
Are there a lot of firefighter and EMT how get shoot?
Kind of sad when the captain said that this wave of recruits will be able to teach the next wave implying that mass casualties and shootings will continue to happen which is sad. 4:25
Congratulations to this graduating class, but the diversity is lacking.
