This is excellent! So much information shown as to how much there is to know and learn. It give the civilians an inside view of how dangerous firefighting can be. They go through all this training for a reason. Firefighting is hard work and everyone has to stay safe in order to do their jobs properly. God bless them all! They truly are our heroes who put their lives on the line every single day. If they're not putting out fires, they are extricating trapped individuals out of massive car wrecks, pulling people out from under trains and on and on and on. It's a wonder they can keep their sanity with all they encounter but saving a life makes it all worthwhile to them. They are truly amazing and MY hat is off to all of them!

Can't wait for all the weeks to follow!! I have a whole new respect for my cousin and what he had to do to follow his dream. He says he does it to make a difference in some small way - to be a part of something bigger than himself. It takes a special breed to be a smoke eater! :-)

johns lawns I would look around for your local career tech school and when you can apply and some have junior and senior programs there I would also talk to someone at a fire station I’m sure they would be glad to tell you about the ways to become a firefighter I myself am a junior who goes to a career tech school for firefighting

I'm not a firefighter yet. But what I did was go around a handful of fire stations around my city and talk to the first person I saw. Know they're busy so have any questions you have on hand. They told me what they did which is go to one of the schools here in San Diego to become an emt then go for fire in the same school. I dont know where you are so it's best to get out there. Or even call around.

      1.) Become an EMT/Paramedic desirable
2.)Finish School with an Associates degree in science or fire science/Bachelors desirable
3.)Begin Applying to departments with no entry requirements, learn the process
4.)Train physically to prepare for a lifelong career
      5.)prepare for your oral interview
6.)Do good around your community, helping with kids and the elderly. Very important.
No one is going to give you a job. You must earn it. Work hard you are young. If you really want this Start Working now. Go for a run and get out there and learn who you are. They aren’t expecting you to go in being the best firefighter. Once you’re in you’ll be able to become the best firefighter. Food for thought.

probably to test the stability and integrity of the floor before walking into a burning building. especially since they're in Colorado, a lot of their homes have basements, and the last thing you want to do is collapse through the floor and into fire. or it may be the last thing you do.

Once we have 100+ feet of hose on the ground we begin flushing the hydrant and making our connections. I wonder why they were training like this?
