Question: so to enter a fire academy you have to take a written exam right? I’m currently taking classes to become a firefighter and my teacher will be sending my application to the fire academy. So does the exam still apply?
Most companies have a cascade system. Basically u use the notch or adapter piece and connect it to the scba and cascade and i gotta do all this nob turning and watching pressure to fill em. There even built to some rescues

I get the benefit of mobility but wouldn't a "Juggernaut" outfit be useful in firefighting, like at least one person on the team suited heavy enough to make entry and evacuation? Equipped with enough layers and a cooling pack so they could check every room quick without having to worry about the fire.
Hello, long shot but i’m currently 14 years old in Scotland. If I move to chicago at 18 could I apply to the academy at 21 or do you have to be native.

Hi I’m Serenity, How heavy is fire gear?
The gear we wear typically is around ~50 pounds for only the bunker gear and pack, which doesn't count tools or anything else we may need to carry
I'm not a member of SMFR, so I can't say for their gear specifically, but the numbers above are typical of most departments gear
