Pantera 1987 No Remorse

- Great Metallica choice to cover back in those days. Darrell (as usual) just shreds it to shit effortlessly. Also - on this one the camera guy zoomed in midway through, got some cool shots of each band member.
At this time Pantera was covering Van Halen, Skid Row, Def Leppard, Ratt, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Judas Preist, venom, Motörhead and Kiss. Goes to show that end of the metal is all just one big family and we can like every sub genre
Wow
💯
it feels like a Pantera song, explains perfectly what's the Metallica influence on Pantera. Didactical !!
Nah imo it feels more like they did a perfect metallica impersonation. Probably the single greatest metallica cover band ever (I don’t mean they are a metallica cover band obviously, but that as a band, I dont think anyone has ever bested their versions of Metallica covers)
@@Squall6575 canibal corpse and diamond head has a better cover lol
@@avocadocommander diamond head’s no remorse is amazing, it basically sounds like if modern metallica had recorded the instrumental. As for Cannibal Corpse, defo a great cover, not better than Pantera
Dimebag was defo influenced by Metallica
Its a Motorhead song created by Metallica
So cool that Phil had already found his voice, even crazier that Dime can fill in the space of 2 guitarists!
Pretty sure Rex is actually who fills that space, his job always have been underrated
Phil ripped off his singing style from some other band. Look it up.
actually phil always talk about how in vdop he really found he style of voice or maybe just in what he was more into it
Dime isn't filling the space of two guitarists, and there's nothing crazy about it. Just one guitar, turned up, all the secondary parts, missing.
The band is tight here
Phil absolutely attacked the stage….every…single time, especially back in the earlier days. No wonder he had back problems later in life. No one can deny the dude absolutely bled for his music.
Yeah. Now he goes up on stage looking like he's ready for the beach.
But it still works. Lol.
The power stance was worth it.
@@SniffHeinkel That explains the Metallica beach balls.
Crack problems
I specifically asked Darrell in person - the first time I met him, which was at Guitar Alley (Metairie, La.), December 28, 1990. I was there before they went on and he was right there, (biggest fucking mop of hair you have ever seen). But very cool guy, obviously, and here I am stumbling over my words but I asked if they were going to play Pussytight and Over and Out, and he said no, the new shit is out and the old shit is done with. Don't think they ever went back to that stuff once Cowboys was out
Little did dimebag know that lightning design on his guitar would become one of the most famous signature guitar in the world
Them Abbott Bros legends. Phil with the hair. Rex with the Jackson Charvel. Awesome band
Never thought I'd see Pantera playing No Remorse and when I was 17. Fucking cool!!🤘
Pantera is really the perfect metal band. They loved their contemporaries and appreciated all forms of metal, even the styles others scoffed at. Not to mention the fact that they were unbelievably good!
Goes to show how influential Metallica was, talk shit all you want, but pantera covering this song live only four years after it came out is hugggee… and this was the beginning of the transformation of Pantera… also one of the best metal bands ever. They ditched the hairspray and spandex and went full metal assault while everybody was sleeping.. I know let’s leave out Death, Possessed, cannibal corpse suffocation, etc. we’re not taking about that
Its insane to think that what people got to witness within the span of one short decade or two.
Imagine being @ Monsters of Rock '88 in Dallas, and Diamond Darrell is a few rows over watching metallica while planning world domination. 😅🤘
@@themeage3605makes me so jealous
That chorus riff is so badass & underrated man
You can thank Dave Mustain for that tasty riff right there.
Edit: I lied ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
NOTHING with the label "Metallica" on it ever got underrated in the last 40 years. They are seriously overrated. All the time.
@@ItsaMe94Dave have 0 writing credits on no remorse but nice try
@@reachSora crap, I completely forgot about looking up song credits.
@@reachSora idiots love to try and discredit metallica all the time this way its so sad
99% of thrash metal bands never wrote a Song as good as No Remorse. Metallica is by far the biggest and best thrash metal band of all times...even Pantera will agree to that.🙂
Was in the 80s not after lol
No not at all.
Yes most epic THRASH band. Pantera wasn't a thrash band. I'll take Pantera any day
You have to remember and take into account that Dave Mustaine's songwriting is all over Kill em all. Metallica's sound and style changed with ride the lightning and Master. Even though I can't stand MegaDave. There is a good reason he was so successful. Specially with Junior, Friedman, Menza. Before his ego took over. Pantera is and has always been in a league of its own. Groove metal. Had Pantera stayed intact I have no doubt they would have surpassed Metallica. In all honesty if we are talking "speed metal" they lost that crown in 1990. Pantera came in and saved the genre when Metallica had a image crisis and were writing songs with old bags singing on them. "The memory remains " anyone? Metallica's last front to back great album was And Justice. Best? Master. Since they came back to their senses with Death Magnetic. They have had a couple above board songs every album to the most recent. Metallica lost its way when Cliff died.
Dime was almost Megadethz guitarist but would take Vinnie so he backed out
Unreal. So damn good. Dime absolutely crushes this song.
Dime crushed everything related to music. My favorite guitar player ever.
Damn, Phil was only 17 in this footage. Fucking crazy with that voice and stage presence
Little bit older, 19 but yea still a kid
"68, I was into the world, born!" He was 18 or 19 here.
Damn this must be newly unearthed footage. It’s badass
the groove in this song definitely influenced pantera with thier new , southern groove metal sound that got them out of the clubs and spandex and into the #1 album slot by the mid 90s. far beyond driven is a masterpiece.
As a teenager somewhere around 1984 or 85 I saw them at Harvey Hall in Tyler Texas halfway betwixt Shreveport and Big D. Never heard em and was just starting to get into headbanging. I actually sat on the speakers on the side stage and was invited to their hotel afterwards. Good times. Been a fan ever since
Man this is absolutely classic stuff. Really good quality for the time.
Thank you
You need to post the whole concert Dude 😎
This will be sacrilege to the diehard Metallica fans, but this is the best version of No Remorse😂🤘
Hearing one of the very best and geniune guitar player of metal music (Dime) playing a Dave Mustaine solo when he was a teenager is hilarios!
Crazy era of share, friendship and rock'n roll wow!
One dime is greater than two pop stars
OH WOW! I am from Chalmette not far from were Phil Anselmo lived. I use to watch Phil Anselmo practice with a band in a warehouse near the river.
That is too cool man. Wish I could have seen them more in the clubs. My 1st show was Guitar Alley 12.28.1990. Cowboys was out but they were still in clubs for a few more months
@@MaxWhiteArabiLouisiana St Bernard here also !!! YEAH!!
One of my favourite Metallica tracks, and they did it beautifully... very well done fellas.
That's probably one of the cleanest footage i've seen from this period! thanks a lot for the uploads man!
Btw I don't care what anyone think, Powermetal is their best album with CFH in my opinion! (i know this one is metallica uh..)
Yes - Power Metal blew my fucking brains out but thrn Cowboys even knocked it out of the universe for me. After that I would say Far Beyond (I'm Broken, Becoming, 5 Minutes Alone ) all that was just crushing
This is tremendous!!! Can’t believe I’m just now seeing this.
I wanted to wait till I had the best computer I could afford, the best software that I actually could use and I needed all those tools because the sound quality on that tape was shit. I was able to make the video look fucking awesome cause all I did was stretch it to fit the 16:9 ratio. Trust me compared to the original, the final product was worth the wait.
The bobbing during key monents is damn good camera work.
Thanks for uploading bro
Mike if these are your videos, your a legend....
Somebody gave me this bootleg VHS in 1988, and as you can see it blew me out of my f****** mind. I held on to it until I had the best computer and I know how to use the best software, because the sound was the worst problem. It sucked had to use some good software to correct it the best that I could . But the video is just f****** gorgeous and I'm glad so many people are getting to enjoy it like I did
I love the 90sstuff obviously, but I really like their 80s albums, especially Power Metal. That’s a painfully underrated album.
RIP Abbott Brothers 💀
I forgot for a moment that Dimebag Darrell is the only guitar player here. HE RULES! RIP DIME!
Sometimes I think that Metallica's Kill'Em All was recorded by Darrell (instead of Hammett), because sound and clearness are very close to album.
He was beyond amazing dude . . so far beyond . .
LORDS UNMATCHED FOREVER ON AND ON
Freaking Awesome
This is just … the best I’ve seen in a long long time! So refreshing to see this! Great work!!
Thanks dude I appreciate and yes I think it fucking SLAMS too
Holy crap...I didn't know Fabio could sing like this!
what a great video, pretty rare honestly....
I tried to check to see if either of these two shows had ever been posted anywhere, and I didn't find them, so I figured hell yes I've got to get this out there. Finally got the new bad-ass computer with all the software and crap, had to try some "Metal Magic" of my own because the audio on this (unfortunately) SUCKED BALLS. Those old VHS cameras were not made for recording thrash metal concerts live . . . The video is stunning, however, with only a few exceptions
@@mikepatterson437 Thank you so much for doing so man! 🙏🤘 I watch videos of them during this era religiously. It's so good to finally see clearer videos of their set.
I think Pantera could cover this song as studio version back in the day if they wanted to. Speed up music a little bit, and vocals actually suits to Phil here
I used to play this jam myself, but not as well, thanks for sharing this
I'm working on this one as well, it's gonna take time to get the speed right, but practice makes perfect!
@nickhartman6372 this song is all about building the chops at least for me it's great for practice
Dime is so legend, still paid huge respect to Metallica (kirk) by sticking with the essence of solo though he could have played entirely with different vibe.❤
METALLICA RULZ , SO do PANTERA!!
Insane pantera
This is SO damn entertaining! As corny as it sounds, I'd love to hear The Illegals do something fucked up with this classic today! It'd be incredible.
Of course where the orig song usually picks up near the end there'd be a breakdown instead 🤩
AMAZING EVERyTHiNG!!! BETTER IMPOSSIBLE
So fucking tight!!!! They were a fucking demolition unit live, even in the early days. They played better than no one, no thrash from the 80's achieved this, they were al good but live they showed their punk roots. Pantera brought their energy from glam, which is surreal considering the standards of aggressiveness they achieved in the 90's.
Make sure you watch the "Power Metal" video I posted. It makes the stuff on "No Remorse" look simple. Watch all the way through - Darrell was untouchable
wow incredible performance... pure metal
BY FAR THE BEST SONG FROM KILL EM ALL🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Really like that Dimebag's version of the intro solo. I mean, it's a cover, but you can instantly recrognize it's Dimebag that's playing it
Phil and that voice in 1987, wow it shouldn't have taken so long for them to get signed with him and make their debut. He makes James sound pretty sorry. lol.
I can’t tell you how many Pantera shows I saw from 1984-1987 in the Circle in the Square.
Dude I am jealous but that goes without saying. Did you ever see who was filming this show - just curious . . maybe that person has more footage somewhere??
Pure magic here 🤘🏼
Rip dime I fuckin learn songs from pantera on guitar every day
Great stuff. Tattooless Phil doing the helicopter and having the widest stance east of the Pecos. Dime shredding his a$$ off, Vinnie putting Lars to shame, and Rex doing a little Angus Young duckwalk action. Love to see stuff from bands when nobody knew who they were.
btw, how in the gosh darn heck did UA-cam tag this is Trent Reznor/Pantera/Heresy ?!?!
Was not aware of that - no clue . . I did use a short clip of Heresy for the title . .
Putting Lars on shame... Giving tribute to one of their songs? Hahaha Lars was/is god.
@@alexdelcampo3606 lol nope lars is bad but that’s alright.
Just awesome! Thanks for sharing Mike 🤘🏻🖤
A good cover from Kill 'em All will always get people hyped. Never seen this before, f love it! 🔥🤘🔥
Pantallica😎🤘🤘
Panterica!
Fuckin' sick tone for a Metallica song!
Pantera thrashed this, very 👍
Wish I could see the whole set. 🤘
,,,,WOW,,,,...never saw this,,,..holy cats,way back.............A-plus
🤘💀🤘
Wow is this your footage man? Rock on! Kick ass!
Nah but what I would have GIVEN to have been there watching that shit live!! I was given this tape in 1988, don't even remember who gave it but they never asked for it back, that I am sure of
@@mikepatterson437 Wow that would have been insane man
I think the album Kill'Em All was recorded by Darrell instead of Hammett, because Pantera always performed songs from exactly that album and sound/quality of performance is similar like in album. Hammett has never played it like in record.
ยอดเยี่ยม🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Amazing cover.
Dime played the solos better than Kirk :v
At this point the World didn't know what was about to hit them.
Phil sounds sick as fuck on this damn
Mike thanks for posting this
would be awesome to have a soundboard recording of this \,,/
He was soooo monstrous before the heroine.
Anyone in here catch this show? Must have been mind blowing.
Dimes tone is so heavy 😮
Awesome. Thanks for sharing!
I know they completely skipped their 3 first hair metal albums once Anslemo went on board with Pantera, but since I've never seen them live in the 90's, I just want to know: did they still play songs from the Power Metal album after Vulgar Display of Power was out, or did they just cut off anything that was before Cowboys?
theres a vid of pantera playing PST 88 from 1992. they probably stopped in '92 or '93 iirc
I found the vid, it was recorded on new years eve of 1992. Had to do some digging, haven't seen it since i was 17 lol ua-cam.com/video/XKGAAf9afRA/v-deo.htmlsi=NszcfH1z9YBq8fGo
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Phil’s strongest form
Holy shit that was tight
🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
As bad ass as can be PANTERA!
So there's more footage from this gig coming up?? Awesome if so
I got both gigs completely up . . wish I had more footage but that is literally everything that was on this bootleg. I think I posted 16 separate songs total, and two of those were Darrell soloing
Fucking awesome ☠️💪🏻🤘🏻
This is great wow thanks man. Fuck yeah they killed this shit
fucking great
Thanks Kerry King
Loving the powerful drums of Vince. Just another level compared to Lars with all the respect.
Historic
When Pantera be MetallicA in 1987 than Metallica 😂
Is Dimebag wearing Eskimo boots?
This sounds like it could have been on cowboys from hell.
PanTallicA
This is better than how metallica performed it 😅😅😅
No it isn't
Even with one guitarist
Yea... 10x better than Metallica. Faster/tighter, heavier, and better solos. Don't be a hater. Sometimes covers are better than the originals.
@MrFi5her it isn't "10x better than metallica" some of yall highly exaggerate things. Just because you think pantera is "cooler" or you like them better or because it's cool to hate on Metallica or whatever the reason may be. It's a very good cover but "10x better than metallica" is ridiculous imo.
@razdapa nah man metallica is terrible anytime someone else does their shit it's so much better because it's cool to bash on metallica didn't you get the memo?
No I know why Phil’s neck and back got so messed up
band melt metal hell mad mothers aatecas hard wild pyromaniac viper absolutely performance
I was less than a year old😅
in germany we would say: die haben Pfeffer im Arsch
No offence but Dime’s solos sounds better then Kirk himself 😂
Yeah totally agree - it comes from his bluesy way of approaching thrash solos. He had so much country and blues influence from his Dad's recording studio, and his vibrato on those notes is fucking amazing . . he did it effortlessly
and don't get me wrong - I loved Kirk on the first 5 albums, but comparing the two? No contest
@@mikepatterson437kirk is legend man .
Why is it cool to hate on Kirk? Is he the best? No, even he would admit that but goddammit the guy laid down some badass solos throughout the years but he still gets hated on. People saying stupid shit like oh i can play better than him in my sleep or Kirk cant play guitar to save his life! Weird motherfuckers
These vocals are superior too 🤘🏻
Insane but lacks the second guitar as much as i love this you cant replace two gats 🤘
At least we all know that metallica are truly the road dogs from hell they started thrash the rest are just copycats
I have to admit, it's tight. However, I cringe when I see vocalist do air guitar. It's kinda corny to me. 🤭🤦♂️
Using emojis is infinitely more cringe
Where is your metal band champ..
