James in 1985: this is older one from kill em all
James in 2019: this is older one from kill em all
James in 2022 : hey we got a new song for you
@@Daniel_EDDAJames 2024 halfway through the song: ARE….YOU….ALLLLIIIIIIVVEEE?!!!
Crazy to think they were just like 22 here. I mean I'm 20 and I'm sitting here in my fucking underwear eating leftover easter candy. Feels bad man
Pick up an instrument and practice it as much as you can, its never too late bro!
You'll get to the point where you'll actually be able to write riffs and melodies and put em together! That's how Metallica got started, see where that takes you! :)
Jeremiah A Well, I've played both guitar and drums for 7 years, I just don't do anything with it lol
Linus Frölander Try to get a band together, find people that are at the same level of skill as you and that are serious about making music. Multiple minds could work better than one. Remember that Metallica's first album was co-written by the whole band not just James.
+Linus Frölander Ahahahaha I'm 19, sitting in a ripped chair in some fucking pajama pants and looking half dead from eating all the leftovers.... So fucking relatable ahahah
I fee your pain, I'm 24 just watching stuff on youtube while taking a shit...
Ahh... The good times.
When Lars was still a nice drummer
+Marco Alessandro De Intinis when people didn't talk shit all the time
+pieter melkam People still talked shit. Just without the use of the Internet.
Abso.. fucking lutely
When we didn't give a damm about anything, just metal, no remose
I wonder how long it took Ozzy to say, "these guys are kickin' my ass live..."
like 3 shows
When they were touring together in 86, and more people wanted to see Metallica than Ozzy
No way in hell Ozzy could have delivered after Metallica. They were on fire at that time.
I know that this is three years ago but even he said that they were a hard band to follow in the Metallica Behind the Music VH1 documentary.
Hetfield is a great metal frontman.
*was
+BigRed Dartt Exactly what i was going to comment :D
+BigRed Dartt No, is, dickwad. People age, this was 31 years ago. And he's aged about as well as you can age too. You and I will probably be bald or close and in denial then...
+BigRed Dartt He's gotten better with age and so has the whole band. \m/
+Mike Idol (capman911) NOOOOOO. Lars is so sloppy and selfish nowadays, and while James has aged pretty well, he certainly isn't better than he was around the 80's-90's shift...
RIP Cliff Burton,
he headbanged like a God
+Moameth Dark Rider I was thinking the same thing. More Cliff videos.
Moon Hitsearth He is a legend,
Legends never die
M. Swaiti666 Yes he did..!!! And, i was a 10 ft. Away from him watching him go nonstop the whole show.. June 5th 1986... McAllen, Tx... The MOST Hardcore member of Metallica... EVER....
Cause he is god
He was god
lars all cracked out playing that ride all fast as hit
+WashingtonMonster86 first time i hear he hit the ride that fast
Fast as shit*
And hammering the shit out of that double kick in parts of the song that didn't require it
And folks expect these legends to bring the same intensity and power today in their late 50's?? The fact that they are still kicking ass after doing this for 40 years (losing Cliffy along the way RIP) is a testament to their greatness and why no other band holds a candle to em! THE MIGHTY METALLICA
The glorious days when Lars was buried deep behind his massive drum kit.
And he had both a China and a Ride Cymbal
russkate88 when did he stop using a china cymbal? If anything, he over used it (live) from the 90s on up
@@FilmThePoliceFTP I never said that he stopped using it.
russkate88 I must be mis interpreting your comment... “and he had both a China and a ride...” sounds like he no longer has either.
@@FilmThePoliceFTP he definitely has a China. But he removed the Ride Cymbal from his set up in 1988 after they had recorded Breadfan and The Prince and were about to record the Justice material.
Lol Lars pounding the double bass even when he didn''t have to like on the studio version of this song. AWESOME
Mark Elshout complete opposite of now. Now he doesn't do double bass in parts he's supposed to. Back then he did double bass in parts that didn't originally have it
damn my mind is blown, all i gotta say
And hammering the shit out of the Ride Cymbal
uome20bukz was 25 back then now he’s almost 60
@@el.bihtador6159 actually. He was 21 back then.
played WAY faster than the album version and almost every downstroke of that right hand was in perfect timing. Metallica throughout their career have constantly fascinated me..I can find plenty to be happy about how they played it then and even how they do it now.
4:16 and 5:40 are two of my favourite screams ever by james. 1985 was such a good year for Metallica
Metallica will never die because they represent youth culture.
The whole band absolutely destroys here. Incredible well-oiled machine.
James though is and will always be a massive force to be reckoned with. How the hell he plays with that much intensity AND fronts the band is unreal. Metallica forever. Rest in peace, Cliff!
I am always lost for words with James. He just has this immaculate presence. Even at that young age he truly owned that performance. He's just someone you want to stop what you are doing and watch. Just watch for hours. I can always feel my heart beating when I see or hear James. I'm 28 wasn't even born yet at this time but when I found Metallica I never looked back.
Granted it's crazy to expect them to play with that energy today, but really, they started losing steam in the mid 90s
@@eq1373trust me, it already began by the end of 1987, although it would have been unfair to expect them to play with the intensity they played with after Cliff's death for too long
Dave wishes like hell he had 25% of James' stage presence, and vocals for that matter.
Surprisingly good quality video. I'm only 19 and I wish I was born back in the day so I can go to those concerts. I would have loved to go to the concerts on the And Justice For All tour.
Same.
+Britany Lopez same
im only 16 but listen to metallica for 12years. and ive never seen them live т.Т
When I perfect my time machine I'll give you a call ;)
+Britany Lopez i consider myself lucky being born in 1964, saw the guys live the first time in 1984, saw Cliff live about 4 times, in a grand total of 15 times so far, and still counting!!!
+Britany Lopez I saw the And Justice for all tour, two shows, about a week apart. The first was at UNO lakefront arena in New Orleans. That was a great show, but pyro was limited by the size of the venue. It is a basketball arena, and we always thought it was a strange choice for a Metallica show. But the second show was at Biloxi Gulf Coast Coliseum, in Biloxi Mississippi. That was a totally different show! They played for almost three hours, and they tore that place apart! When they destroyed lady liberty at the end, it was absolutely amazing! Only show as good as this was KISS reunion (1996) in the Superdome. The Metallihaters of the world can suck it, cause when Hetfield and the boys go to jammin, there is no equal.
PLEASE MORE OF THE OLD CONCERTS
man rob looked a lot different when he was younger
umm .. that's not Rob .. that's Cliff
Anas A. Ali no way, thats rob, he's even playing the same bass
+DmanHeadshot this is in fact Rob on the bass here ...
DmanHeadshot son, get your shit straight. i've been listening to metallica for 30 years, and i know who is rob and who is cliff. this right here is rob.
DmanHeadshot that's it, you finally got it. thank god, got a little bit scared about your brain to be honest. phew ...
The best I´ve seen on this performance:
2:59 - 3:06 That pose, that bassguitar, that headbanging....THAT MAN!!!!
5:42 That anger, that "no no no no nooooooo"....THAT FRONTMAN!!!!
"NO NO NOOO NO NO NOOOOO NO NO NO NOOOO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
FUCK NOOOOOOOO!!!"
Micheal Scott was inspired with this video
That presence and only 22 here. He is a fucking legend!
👍
And the double bass from lars during the attack part
And people say Lars was never good...pfft.
+DoomPowerMetal Fuck them! :)
I agreeee!!!
DPM best drummer ever
He not the best drummer he is really good tho not hater I love metallica
Lars is still good
R.I.P CLIFF BURTON :'(
nice profile pic!
you too
This is the real Metallica .Cruel fate stole Cliff from the world just one year later. They had already been my favorite band for over a year at this point but would not come to my state of Florida till 1988 so I never saw them with Cliff. In the summer of 86 I knew they were opening for Ozzy & was excited to find out Ozzy was coming here in September so I bought a ticket way early. Then heard a month before that Queensryche was taking Metallica's place because Metallica was going to Europe with Anthrax. Man I was fucking pissed off .I didn't give fuck about glammed out Ozzy & Queenryche's new album was disappointing ..But Metallica & Anthrax were my 2 favorite bands. Rant over.
Diggerdog2nd that is the fattest F ever
Diggerdog2nd. U got that Right my friend But Cliff Burton accomplish so much in short life
Damn if Metallica stayed on that bill Cliff would probably still be here. Sucks.
At the old Orange Bowl?
His drums sounds like fucking thunder at this show. So epic.
Cliff couldn't stop banging his head if he wanted to :O
+Filip Šponiar He really felt the music man.
Someday he's still head banging to this day
great performance, the angry days.
+Casandra Soto +1
30 years ago, it was the best no remorse performance
wow, what a performance , this is the real metallica, that's the real spirit.
Check out the continuous double kick Lars is doing from the five minute mark onwards. It sounds awesome and intense. The studio recording doesn't even have that. He was really on fire that night.
russkate88 Cocaine is a hell of a drug.
He didn't have the skill to pull that off when they recorded kill em all. He got better fast .
@@allenbass6169 that's true
Oh to be 21-22 again jj
@@allenbass6169 touring constantly helps.
It is 2016 and you stil can feel the energy in this performance 31 years later.
They were in their absolute prime here! Is it any wonder that Master of Puppets was written and recorded this year (1985)
Holy shit James blew his voice out at the end🤘
Fantastic and very very fast!!!
This is september 14th 1985 - they were a couple of weeks into recording Puppets in Copenhagen and went down to Germany for this festival. Summer of 85 they also did Monsters of Rock in England and Day On The Green in Oakland, CA - no wonder why they are really confident here. I still love Metallica - but this is really their prime. Ah - just fanstastic!
They returned to Denmark to record puppets after this and they finished around Christmas
This version kicks ass. 1985's Metal Hammer really was a good gig for Metallica
4:16 - 5:25 So much fury. Its so damn fast too.
I think that part is the best in Kill 'em All
in all sincerity i never understood all of kirk's criticism, he is not very technical and clean but that's exactly what Metallica need, they wouldn't be the same with a lead such as Petrucci or even Skolnick, to name another Thrash lead , Hammet is tight, melodical and direct, which is the best suiting ingredient for the character of this band, not to mention that some of his melodies were very emotional
+Tony Gazza Yeah but they also wanted somebody they could control completely, somebody who had no say so in anything, that's why they fired Dave.
***** kirk was much more complete as a lead than dave at the time, even now i fail to find a slow melodic solo by dave while metallica have tons of that, dave is just more technical and faster but kirk makes better solos overall
Dave has never been Metallica''s or even Megadeth''s best lead guitarist.
Mark Elshout I respect your opinion but seriously Dave was the best lead guitarist, he shreds circles around Kirk.
Tony Gazza Yeah but anything Kirk has done he was told to do no matter what, he does great slow melodic solos but that's only because James was by his side the whole, I bet Dave would have better songs and albums if he had somebody like James next to him even though Dave literally taught James how to write songs back when he only had Hit The Lights and Motorbreath which were actually mostly written by somebody who will never get credit for them.
it's impossible to not bang your head to this
James looks amazing, a truly badass frontman.
James- beast
Kirk- Very talented 14 years old guitarist
Cliff- the Ktulu
Lars- Drum abbuser
Now I just want to see this whole show!
such a killer song, should be played more often
I wish I could feel the intensity with the modern Metallica that I felt during this video.
Come on...Give the guys credit! They are in their mid 50s and still kick fucking ass!!
@@kalament1969 Just feels different. Like they don't even enjoy it. It's like they're playing the part of themselves on stage. it's okay. time is supposed to do that. i just wish they didn't feel forced to keep moving. it's sad in my opinion. At this point i would love if James did a solo album and Kirk learned a different fucking scale.
@@kalament1969 Thank you Johnny! Exactly, who the hell can kick that much ass at 24 not to mention 58! Tallica brings ALL THEY GOT and those of us who have been there since '83 know it and are grateful they still deliver for the fans...METAL UP YOUR ASSSSSSS!
They are pushing 60 now, they aren’t 22 anymore
If they didn't want to do this anymore they wouldn't, plain and simple. they're proof that no matter how old you get, as long as you're passionate about something you can do it for however long you fucking want, and who the hell are you to try & say otherwise?
i was there with my dad
that's awesome
That's so cool man!
Wowser
omg *-*
+Kenaustin Ardenol you smart
They should remaster this entire concert. AWESOME show. There are some reasonable quality vids around, but a pro remaster would be so damn cool
Wow! After 30 years, we finally get to see this.
Quite furious and faster than the album version.
You cant hear one distinct note but its still awesome
+Mustlehard except for the snare, more or less ;D
1:30, RIP Lars' arm. That was the last time he hit the ride that fast lol
in 89 lars didn't have a ride
COKE
It's actually not that fast. He does it faster on Fight Fire with Fire
Las Armas y Fatman he didn’t have a ride there. He was hitting his second hi-hat. And it’s much easier hitting it that fast in a song like Battery, any song with a fast basic thrash beat. Hitting a ride OR a hi-hat that fast during something like the chorus of this song is more difficult.
Damn Lars was so good hitting the ride that fast
Fuckin' Lars is amazing here!!!
and he has a Ride Cymbal aswell.
+russkate88 And he does not use it it this song.
miss this lars
+oyhe94 yeah, he does.. listen :)
+KirunaKlasse You mean in the chorus? There he is using the hi-hats on the right side of the kit. You can see them moving during the chorus. For some reason they are opened very much, which is unusual for Lars, as he always play with the hats closed except for accents and stuff.
This festival was the first time that I've seen Metallica live. From then on I was total fan. Next day, I immediately ran to the record store and bought myself Ride The Lightning LP.
No one is talking about how quiet kirk is.. i could barely hear the intro solo
Ahh cliff. You rocked that concert.
I love when a good song gets played in full..not with riffs and parts cut out:)
crazy fast guitar playing! i wouldve had my right arm cramping by 30 seconds with those down picks :O
You should watch the Ramones.
Different genre, different kind of guitar playing. Johnny is a god in downpicking barre chords for sure and it takes alot of stamina and practice, but what James Hetfield is doing, is beyond god status in my opinion. This man downpicks really hard guitar parts while screaming with such power (well, he used to ´scream´). He´s on another level from alot of frontmen.
It sounds faster than the studio version
acajoom Doesn't sound as agressive tho
Can actually hear the bass here! o.O
+Vishal Sheth It's from before And Justice for All ;)
+Torniojaws FAWM
Even the first 3 albums suffer from quiet bass...
The enhanced versions are superior.
zzzhuh whaaaat? the bass is so clear on the first 3 albums especially kill em all what are you talking about
ben eadie The bass is really clear on Kill Em All
Metal legends. Greatest metal band of all time. Nobody touches them.
It's really amazing how they had their shit together at this level this early. I have to keep reminding myself that these guys were barely over the drinking age in their own country.
Lars Lombardo 4:38
Coke did it
Cocaine Ulrich.
@FiftyCaliberTV yes they did
FiftyCaliberTV yeah. Kirk said on lightning era, he didn’t have money to do a laundry. They got shit load amounts of money on master and Justice era.
@@muhammadirsyazman8389 wich interview?
When I think Classic Metallica and there sound, 4:19 showcases the original lineup and why they were truly special.
Metallica finally did something great and uploaded something people actually wanted to see. Still waiting for the Day On The Green in 1985. I'm sick of only seeing For Whom The Bell Tolls.
+JJ 86 As I remember, we even have 40 seconds of Ride the Lightning from that fest)
Paul Akama I watched that too in a interview about the concert.
+JJ 86 I think (but I'm not 100% on this)d ay on the Green is being made available by the band. I think it will be included in the new box set thingy that's coming out soon for the remasters of Kill em All and RTL
creep ride and bells were the only recorded songs
+133starscream Are you sure?
James is a monster
I just killed the replay button.
CLIFF ❤️
always good to see videos with Cliff...
No one can ever replace Cliff..
there was no technology back then. and hell of a performance this was! Metallica forever
god damn it, that is so full of energy
Been waiting for this footage in full for sooooooo long thanks boys
best hetfield voice era, kill em all screams and the power of next two albums
this is the metallica we all love!!!
I wish this band still existed. Look at this, man. Powerful guitar tones, in-your-face bass, extremely fast and aggressive drums, James' strong screams, Kirk playing on point without sloppiness. Best fucking band ever, sadly dead. RIP 1981-1991.
People get old and grew up...
yea bro it’s called aging
They were not that old in 1991 and still managed to put out the black album that was the death of the band
@tallin flanagan The black album is great, just different. I was a die-hard closed-mind metal fanboy, but have learned to appreciate the black album over years.
Was a sophomore in high school..Master of puppets wasn't even out yet,Saw them 1st time 1986 they opened up for Ozzy ..The Metallica I used to know
Best live version of this song I've ever seen and heard. Great quality recording aswell. Metallica need to rewatch these videos and regain that energy and hunger they once had. The band that was set to follow them that night would have had their work cut out for them.
Why don't you guys post more of good old days? Huh? Honor us with more old footage such as this. So great to see Cliff banging all the time.
Hammet flawless again.
its awesome to see the memoryes of metallica
I was there! Still got my ticket!
how was it?
3:40 - 3:48 Jame's voice with that aggression is always spine chilling!
Thanks Metallica & MetallicaTV \m/ ( hope for more early & rare upload videos , because you're Metallica TV !!!)
No Remorse lyrics:
No mercy for what we’re doing
No thought to even what we’ve done
We don’t need to feel the sorrow
No remorse for the helpless one
War without end
No remorse, no repent
We don’t care what it meant
Another day, another death
Another sorrow, another breath
No remorse, no repent
We don’t care what it meant
Another day, another death
Another sorrow, another breath
Blood feeds the war machine
As it eats its way across the land
We don’t need the feel the sorrow
No remorse is the one command
War without end
No remorse, no repent
We don’t care what it meant
Another day, another death
Another sorrow, another breath
No remorse, no repent
We don’t care what it meant
Another day, another death
Another sorrow, another breath
Only the strong survive
No one to save the weaker race
We are ready to kill all comers
Like a loaded gun right at your face
War without end
No remorse, no repent
We don’t care what it meant
Another day, another death
Another sorrow, another breath
No remorse, no repent
We don’t care what it meant
Another day, another death
Another sorrow, another breath
Attack!
Bullets are flying, people are dying
With madness surrounding, all hell’s breaking loose
Soldiers are hounding, bodies are mounting
Cannons are shouting to take their abuse
With war machines going, blood starts to flowing
No mercy given to anyone here
The furious fighting, swords are like lighting
It all becomes frightening, you know death is near
No remorse

how i wish i was born already at this moment!! tsk tsk.. those were d days.. Metallica.. rockz!!!
Can't wait for April 15 !
Holy fucking hell - I had forgotten how kick-ass show this was. Maybe their best show ever. The last gig with Cliff was also insane.
yes..this is their peak show..also because in this month they recorded master of puppets..so they had the peak powers.
Молодые! =) Клифф живой. =) Жаль что не изобрели машину времени, это концерт на котором я бы хотел побывать! Metallica, приезжайте почаще в Россию!
I wish they could still play with this amount of energy these days
Untouchable in their prime 85’-92’ish. Still good after till 2023’. I’ve seen them Live and other top notch bands in 45 plus years. Look up Seattle 89’ live on YT, unreal band on point. Priest , Maiden and QR , Sabbath all top 5, these guys stood test of time
woah nice double bass Mr Ulrich
This was the peak of metal. The Everest.
Metaaaaaallll !!! Thanks a lot !!!
Absolutely awesome, I would've loved to have seen Metallica in the 80's in a small venue. They are still amazing now but back then they would've been so raw! No one head bangs like Cliff, a true rock n roll legend!
This is fucking gold
"hey! hey! hey!" out of tempo
that was kinda a throwoff
+Chinkadingo Duper improvisation buıllshit :)
***** depends, but in this case... yeah
