This is what I have! I'm over 30 and only learned about tongue- and lip-ties this month, but have dealt with sinus issues, facial pain and tension and dental crowding my entire life. My parents have said I also fed well as a baby but suffered constant colic and stomach issues. Can see how it's so easy to miss, and will hopefully be getting it corrected in the next few weeks :) Can't wait!
I have a mid-restricted tie, apparently. 20 years of jaw issues which I’ve sort of resolved over the years except masseter tension. Is just so bad some days. On my path to find relief over the decades I only just now found someone who tells me I have this 😅 I’m in aligners now to “widen” my smile and add tilt, within my wide-enough palate (expanded as a child). My teeth align and all that but we need a bit of width to allow for a released tongue. I’m not entirely confident I’ll be relieved of tension after my release… I feel like my body has just compensated SO much all these years! I sure hope a release is in fact what I “need” to kick this tension though!
How does a posterior tie affect breastfeeding infants? Does it not need to be revised or will it always cause damage to the nipple & difficulty nursing?
i just want the stupid industry to get their heads out of their butts on this. something thats literally so simple to fix and can cause so many debilitating conditions should NOT be this hard to get fixed.. and it should NOT cost us an arm and a leg. :( im not saying the costs arent worth it or that the practitioners arent worthy of the money. but when you start thinking of it all having to come out of pocket... and then for our family X5 people (possibly 6 after baby in december)... its easy to see. even the lower cost practitioners ive seen, the proceedure ALONE is going to be 2000$. this doesnt count in the therapies we would be required to have (and will need to have to make sure everything actually works out). see what i mean? :(
Wow, US is extremely expensive (healht care wise). I live in The Netherlands. It costs €53 for intake, €56 euro starting fee and then €33 per tongue/lip tie. With a family of 5/6, it might be cheaper to fly to a different country for this procedure!
5 years have passed since this comment and absolutely nothing has changed 😂 In fact, it’s only gotten worse. This country is such a joke when it comes to healthcare.
Yeah it’s embarrassing for the US that people are better off traveling to a different country for this procedure than doing it here - where you’re price gouged and financially exploited beyond absurdity.
People need to know this. I'm 36 and just got evaluated by an oral myofunctional therapist and I have a deep, posterior tie. I'm hoping to have a good result with my eventual tongue tie cut after I'm done with my physical therapy to prepare.
I don’t know if I have those symptoms I can rest tongue on the palate but feel pressure in the tongue joint please share with me why are your symptoms I can go to doctor to verify but I don’t think doctors here would even know such thing exists
Thank you for this video. I have a 3 year old toddler that has a speech delay and has been taking speech therapy for the last year. While doing vocabulary with him, I noticed he is unable to pick his tongue up to touch the roof of his mouth or his top lip. I see him trying, but he can't do it. This led me to researching and I found your videos. I took him to his pediatrician to have him checked for being posterior tongue tied and she didn't know what I was talking about. He can stick his tongue out and it looks normal, therefore she says he is not tongue tied. I think there is more to this and would like some direction. Who can I take him to in order to check for a posterior tie?
@@neetavazirani9495Not sure if you already found the answer to this but most traditionally trained doctors or dentists are not going to know anything about posterior tongue ties. It is best to see a holistic dentist/orthodontist who can refer you to an oral surgeon that is familiar with posterior tongue and proper tongue posture. I would also look for a Myofunctional therapist in your area because in order for the tongue release (frenectomy) procedure to go well, you need to do exercises pre and post OP or you risk the possibility of the frenulum reattaching. Hope this helps!
Not an expert but I think it’s cut or lasered in same place. It’s just a matter of where that tie is.. like obviously under the tongue but how fact back is dictated by if it’s anterior or posterior etc. so technically same location, under tongue on the tie, but where that tie connects is the variable.
Myofunctional therapist here: go to the website for the International Consortium of Ankyloglossis Professionals (ICAP) to find a knowledgeable provider. Understand that myofunctional therapy is required before and after the surgery as well as bodywork (cranial facial therapy, osteopathy) to loosen up all the tight muscles and fascia that have been compensating for the restriciton since about 15 weeks in utero. You do not just go and have the tie released and expect a good result. You need to do the entire process as I mentioned about, for you to be able to get the best possible results.
Hi! I'm pretty sure I have tongue and lip ties, I live in Peru and would like to know where can I find a professional that would help me. Some people recommend that I see a myofunctional therapist online via Skype, can they determine if I have tongue tie this way? And where do I find a professional that releases tongue tie in this country? Thank you
Myofunctional therapist here: there are many of us that do online therapy with much success. Finding someone who can do the revision properly is the challenge. Go to the website for the International Consortium of Ankyloglossia Professionals (ICAP). Hopefully you will find someone to help you.
Hi Sarah! Need help 🙍 I've been watching ur videos for quite a yr now. And this video moves me to release my tongue tie by my ENT surgeon.. But still, the posterior section of my tongue still can't rest on the roof of my mouth. Do you have any suggestions or ideas that can help me? Please share it to me. Thanks
The floor of the mouth rises as the patient lifts up their tongue. If you put your finger in the left or right lingual sulcus and ask the patient to lift their tongue, they will push your finger out.
hey sarah you look amazing. Btw are you still accepting newbies to contact you? because i really would like some advice on a narrow pallet and what can be done bout it(naturally preferably . Thanks
I am breastfeeding and lactation consultant. I do come across the symptoms of posterior tongue tie is quite often, however I still find it difficult to recognise it. Also a problem is sending people to a dentist or oral doctor a lot of times they don't recognise the posterior tongue tie so it is really up to me to learn how to recognise one. Can you help me with that?
Myofunctional Therapist here: there are many more professionals nowadays who are educated in tongue ties and the symptoms in babies as well as children and adults. Check the website for the International Consortium of Ankyloglossia Professionals )ICAP.) to find a knowledgeable provider in your area.
Ohoooo....this is something I'm suffering from. I always wanted to knowas an adult why these problems which you shared just now Were there?, Or did they not exit at all !!! But thankfully you saved me. I was really terrified. Your videos are of great info to me. Lots of love from me for your kind, & enlightening service. 😍🙏
Myofunctional Therapist here: First of all, because many moms are choosing to breast feed their babies, the problems they have with latching often reveal a tongue tie and sometimes a lip tie. That increased awareness has led many moms to look at their children, especially the ones with speech or swallowing problems AND mouth breathing (tongue ties are connected to mouth breathing). We don't know the cause of tongue ties but the process that would dissolve the tie is interrupted in utero (apotosis which is the same mechanism that removes the webbing between our fingers during gestation). We have to ask ourselves if the chemicals in our foods, the reduction of vitamins (especially folate) in our foods, pollution etc could interfere with this process. We really don't know but there are many suspects out there!!
Myofunctional therapist here: tongue function and resting posture is on the roof of the mouth. Chewing should be done with small bites that are thoroughly chewed until liquid so that the digestive process can begin with the saliva. Then the food (bolus) should be gathered onto the middle of the tongue (like a sausage shape), tip of the tongue on the spot (place your tongue goes when you say la la la), teeth together and with no interference or activity of the lips/facial muscles. Hope that answers your question.
I don’t understand what I have. Seems like I have this type. (My little brother has the other types) I always thought my tongue was just short but I realized this webbing I have is not normal. Is very short and stubby, to the point I can’t even show anyone the webbing because the movement is so little no one will be able to see. Lol 😂 I had a terrible speech impediment until 9th grade, and nobody had ever mentioned being tongue tied. And I don’t want to just randomly ask my doctor outta no where 😂 Edit: I have always gotten bad migraines and if I talk to much or sing too much my throat will actually ache down from my tongue. I have terrible tmj pain and ear pain. Doctors keep telling me nothing is wrong. So after writing all this and hopefully you will see, do you think it would be a good idea for me to bring this up??? May be the cause for all these headaches/ear pain/tmj

How can I test for my self if my baby has a posterior tongue tie? Insurances do not cover for these procedures and they are super expensive
