Arguably the most sophisticated moment in the history of rock.

    • @jimryan9039

To compare the lyrics to pure poetry is to sell this composition short. It is all of that and so much more- True Art and STUNNING!

No argument here. This piece makes Bryan Ferry’s erudition transparent😊

One of them, yes, although I can't pinpoint the exact moment. But from sometime right around there it's been downhill ever since.

Ferry always had a great feeling of the balance between words, looks, gestures and tones. Like a complete painting made by a master. He delivers, time and time again.

What a brilliantly constructed piece. And the lyrics are pure poetry. a true classic.

It's not just my mid-life crisis, I swear, but this just makes me cry. It is so insanely amazing. How to say it? Thrilling, stimulating - like nothing else. I am mesmerised by Mr. Ferry. Did he know just how brilliant he was being? The whole thing just blows my mind. Thank god it happened.

Just an absolute gem of a song. This man inspired the singers of the 80’s, and beyond, including many synth bands and clearly Morrissey. The sound is timeless.

Eddie Jobson on keys, John Wetton on bass - 3 years before forming the legendary band "U.K." Another key moment in music history. Bryan Ferry certainly had good taste, including in his choice of musicians. Love this song, and Jobson's arrangement (at the age of 19 here!!). Brilliant.

one of the best and saddest and truest songs ever about the human condition.
On our way to enlightenment, we have to pass through so many stages of hope, ennui, pain and beauty.
so let's all just try to be as kind as we can be to each other….and have a really good time.

    • @karenkaren3189

pretty funny, I just realized this was on the Midnight Special-the audience was probably in full "WTF?" mode-though I saw them around this time live in Los Angeles and we were totally entranced-he sang this song as if his life depended on it.
