- In this weeks video, join Lisa and I as we try to beat the clock during a day trip to the beautiful island of Ocracoke, located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We start off by taking the Cedar Island ferry to Ocracoke, which takes about 2 and a half hours. Once we arrive, we only have a limited time before our return ferry departs, so we have to plan our time carefully. Mike…So true. Three hours went by so fast. We definitely plan to go back in the future and would like to take the Airstream over on the ferry and give Ocracoke the time it deserves.

Agree…the ferry ride was a bonus of the trip.
It’s against all that is holy to go to Ocracoke and be in a hurry. Ocracoke is the opposite of being in a hurry. What a shame.
Completely agree. We mismanaged our time on this trip but we plan to return and take the Airstream over on the ferry and stay a few days.
One day? Definitely not enough time! Unfortunately the inside of the lighthouse is very rusty and considered dangerous to ascend. I think my cremates and I were the last Coast Guard crew to paint it back in the late 1980's, and it was sketchy back then. (Heck of a view, especially hanging over the side painting the underside of the catwalk) Doing the island on a time crunch is not what Ocracoke is about, take a week to adjust, kick back and take it 1 piece at a time. visit a little closer to peak season when everything is open but not super busy.
