Hey guys, last time we paid tribute to the birthplace of aviation - wright brothers at Kill Devil Hills. Today we will take you to head south to a remote island called Ocracoke.
The island is at the south tip of the outer banks. If you travel by car, a ferry service is needed to go around the Hatteras Inlet, and the whole trip will take almost 3 hours. If you fly by airplane, it is merely a 30 minutes trip and you can enjoy the best views from the air.
After taking off from the Dare County airport, we oversaw the Wright brother monument by passing over the First Flight airport. After that, we turn South to fly along the outer banks shoreline.
Jockey's Ridge State Park has the tallest living sand dune on the Atlantic coast. Here is the beautiful black and white Bodie Island lighthouse.
Just like many other island airports, we faced moderate cross wind. The good thing is that, we touched down smoothly, just a bit off the centerline.
Now we have arrived! It is time to explore the island. The town center is about 1 mile from the airport. It is half a hour walk for adults. Since we have two small kids, we asked local for a ride. You can call Howard's Pub for that, if they are not too busy.
The first thing after hitting the town center is to rent a golf cart which is the most convenient way to explore the island.
We first went to the Silver Lake which serves as the harbor for ships and boats. The island style buildings and boat yards around the lake are picturesque. The next stop to visit the snow-white Ocracoke Island Lighthouse.
Happy times always go fast. It is time to go back to the airport. On the way back, I let Iris practice a bit on the straight and level flight.

Great scenery! And sure beats driving. This is what family getaways should look like :-) I have taken my wife and 3 year old twins flying - but hope to actually do a proper adventure getaway like you are. Love the content.

The limitations on golf carts doesn’t allow them to travel to the airport or to the beach. I’d love to see them construct golf cart paths to the airport and beach.
That would be fantastic! Yeah it would be much more convenient to fly to the island. We were lucky to get a ride for the one mile. Otherwise it wouldn't be a pleasant experience for my two kids.
Nice video, except ferry boat travel from Hatteras to the North end of Ocracoke is only one hour, the 3 hour ferry you refer to is from Cedar Island to the South end of the island

Does Howard's have a golf cart again?
They might but I rented it from a rental shop at the silver lake. Howard can pick you up if they are not too busy.
