shoe hats are really weird because they're just objectively better than the two wide boots. half the space for the exact same value, meaning if you ever have boots and are offered shoe hat, take shoe hat, replace boot, free space.
edit:
using objectively was probably going too far, as pointed out by some replies. I meant in nearly all circumstances, and from a very raw numbers sense.
The advantage of the boots is that they have a forging slot while shoe hat has none, but I still prefer the shoe hat xD
There's an "upgraded" version of double boots that gives 2 per square above, even then two shoe hats give the same value
shoe hat is genuinely one of the best common items in the game. I have done about 25 runs so far, and almost always take multiple due to its small size, flexible placement, reliable block, and no dependencies. 8+ shoe hats can be slapped into any build and be viable, which is just hilariously silly.
More surface area for adjacency bonuses though
There are definitely some odd balance choices in the game (still).
If you get enough exp to level outside of combat, you can level up by going to an empty room.
Bows can fire arrows from any distance or direction, so the initial layout can be improved at 12:59 by moving the bottom arrow to the right and rotating it so it fires upward.
Arrows are crazy.
You can level up out of combat, if you have enough exp. just move to an empty spot on the map and a "level up"-button next to your gold should pop up.
I have completed the whole Storymode and did not know this. XD
By the way, you lost people because you removed buildings last time. People are tied to however many buildings you have in the town. I had to figure that out during my play through. Hopefully you see this before your next recording session.
As a side note, you're the reason I got this game and get to enjoy it myself. It really is a bunch of fun - though I've had a couple dud runs. I doubt you have those too often, but I think it might be fun and educational if you had a failed run and still included it in the video. Up to you of course, hope you continue making great videos about fun games
If you like this guy enough, I really recommend watching his old poly bridge Livestreams. In them you have a chance to see him actually have to fail and learn and improve
@@whatevername4873 Fun story, he's also the reason I continually fall back on the Polybridge 3 soundtrack for calm listening
Saw on another youtuber's video that if you actually give the "mayor" what he's asking for you get some new buildings that give you food and population between dungeon runs.
"Mayor" can kick rocks tbh
The strong play suboptimally because the mayor is a chode
@@Aliensrock fair
I got the game a few days ago. I went into quick play and got an amazing block build where I start with around 40-50 block and get to save half my block per turn. I also got curved 3 slot weapon that adds a lot of poison and burn. It's such an amazing build.
yeah this is a super fun game. been playing it so much since release!
I do hope that Tyler eventually ends the bit of him ignoring the mayor. The town hall building is just too important once you have a million different buildings all wanting you to research things
Hey Tyler! Can’t remember when they end up explaining this, but paths are used to maintain adjacency bonuses for buildings even if they’re separated! For example, the farm gets a bonus when next to another farm, but with paths they can still be “adjacent”
Eye priority game took a huge step up on the new thumbnail, it's beautiful.
Cheers!
@@Aliensrock You're epic
Hey Tyler, I would recommend grabbing some glyphs that you find in the dungeon, they give you skins if you take them to the librarian and some of them are pretty sick!
Loving these videos. Seems like the game has a boat-load of new content and the story mode format is groovy.
This series is my favourite right now. This and the magic cube puzzle game haha
Shoutout to the editors, I truly love the style of these videos. Looking back it seems like Ben does most the heavy lifting, but almost all of my favorite editing choices seem to be in videos Noarsy helps edit
I don't care for the mayor either, but you need to do his quest for a lot more buildings. Paths also serve a purpose if you do the mayor's quest
The Mask of Pride is 'just a better helmet'... until your Pride turns to Hubris. It's a fun concept for an item. It's good but makes mistakes snowball, unless you take measures to avert it.
Ooh, Shivs + Whetstones (other than the lowest-level one) + Coal can be very powerful.
Tyler, seriously, how do you _and your editor_ find enough time in a day to crank out so many awesome videos?!
I believe he has several editors, if I remember correctly (could be wrong though). Still impressive though!
if you really wanna get going with food production build a couple farms and surround them in farmland paths makes heaps
shiv is one of the strongest weapons in the game from how OP the wet stones are you get like 3 of them with a not bad wetstone and you get a easy win
Only bad thing about this series is that we only get 1 episode every 3 days! Love this game, and love watching your playthrough Tyler
Aliensrock just unleashing his inner Dio
Tyler: *demolishes all the houses in town to fund his own businesses*
Also Tyler: "Why are there less people here now?"
I'm not even kidding when i say that the coral 2 quest was the most fun and goofy out of all of them, i managed to pull a killer 12 shiv strategy with the wheatstone (applies +3 damage to every weapon in the same row and column for the rest of the combat, costs 1 mana), the coal (resets items only usable once per turn, costs 1 mana) and the black wheatstone (applies weak +1 to every weapon in the same row, can be used once per turn) and i genuinely think i could have beaten the floor 9 boss if the game let me
Also i cried so loud when you didn't take the black wheatstone, i mean come on it's a legendary at least sell it 😭😭😭
I love your backpack hero videos
This and magic box are really fun series!
This is great
As Somebody Who Has Bh, I Recommend Getting Unlocks On Weapons, With The Temple You Can Unlock Blessings Including The Blessed Shiv (A Better Shiv)
That hair slicks back REAL NICE
I saw this, and it immediately made me smile.😁
Btw the reason why you only had 13 people at the town was because you destroyed some buildings at the end of last episode and that made the population drop right then and there
Wow, Backpack Hero really seems like a fleshed out game now. I remember playing it when it was free in browser and it was fun but there was no meta anything.
Is that an Italian cold steel cinquedea? Drawfee would be proud
love those episode
Loving this content
Tyler, I think you may be playing the matching game wrong. I believe that every item that is matched is won, so multiple items can be obtained.
Tyler convincing me to get this game with every upload
Holden Maddox would be proud
im reallly enjoying this series !! so fun
this game is so fun
watching this run was so painful, especially with vampire axe + poison whetstone + cleaning rag + infinite shivs. That's such a godlike synergy to just stumble upon. let me explain why its good for anyone who doesnt have the game
vampire axe does 10 vampirism damage, so basically free healing, the downside is it's +3 poison to yourself every use
poisonous whetstone adds 3 poison on attack to every weapon in the row, but 1 poison to yourself
this is 4 self poison total, which is not good- it'll stack up and easily become lethal after a couple turns
cleansing rag removes 1 poison from yourself every time a nearby item is used, which means an easy -4 poison. in other words you can heal at least 10 health per turn, while gaining infinite poison stacks on your attacks, and all that's left is to make room for adequate armor/structures
I’m pretty sure Lady Luck is a Dicey Dungeons reference
I love how each new thumbnail is slightly different from the the past
you HAVE to give ten treasure to the mayor. it is REQUIRED to progress. also it unlocks a large amount of things
Removing the citrine instead of putting it in the bottom row is criminal
17:05 WIDE TYLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheese from farms. You need the mayor
Great video 👍🔝
8:57 Imagine having 2 of them.
you need to build 2 farms at least for the food problem so you don't need to worry about it anymore
showing my support with a comment, please make more ty in advance
You could've use the citrine for the shifes it would be better for damage if you put it in the button left and the rest is the shifes like it would have been more damage
Edit: and using the coal with the citrine would have been doubled the amount of damage
Citrine only affects the weapon directly next to it
Oh sorry then
@@Aliensrockoh I found how to level up I'l let you figure out of you want to I can just reply and tell you
If you enter an empty room and have the xp to level up, you can level up then.
7:58, fair. The whetstones would make the shivs to strong. Wanna have at least some challenge right?
you can level up in the dungeon press esc and then level up
Hey Tyler, guys here
~13:30 yo is that a mother fuckin Dicey Dungeons reference???
"A lot more research" - oh, you have no idea :>
7:45 did he completely forget the last item he got from the spin?
Tylers got enough shivs for a prison
Tyler's editor did you fr play everything I am by Kanye West in the first 3 seconds of the video
Wait wtff, there's a temple? I thought I'd gotten all the buildings but evidently not, I never got that NPC or the Lantern
FYI you can get rid of a curse if you have a reroll. Once you get your battle loot, if a curse is present, use the reroll and it will erase it. @aliensrock
unfortunate you didnt go with berserker necklace with arrows when you kill you get 6 rage. each rage = +1 damage. So if you have 3 arrows thats +6*3 damage per shot of the arrows.
8:57 Could you run dual-coal, for a infinite repetition build? Each coal re-activating the other one.
it costs energy so it wouldn't be infinite also good luck finding two of the same legdendary only time I've had two of the same legdendary twice getting two expert bows from the same wheel with amazing luck and getting two of the same treat during a treat only run
@@jarzz3601Ah, I missed the energy cost.
I was wondering about the lack of infinite protection.
Does an anchored item hold down a floating item?
Just invest in a mayor. 😭
such an honor to be so early
Seeing you throw two grind stone item away while using a shiv build pain me.
Grindstone buff your weapon for the whole combat, so you paying energy to turn your weak 0 energy pea shooter into 0 energy Weapon of Mass Destruction
I love this game and this series. One thing that annoys me are the thumb nails. I know it clicks better but maybe with a realy god runs you could include real screenshot of the back pack?
Here’s a better idea: don’t let it annoy you. It really doesn’t matter and I will never ever take a viewer’s advice on this.
Womp womp
britis buld
13:17 is that a dicey dungeons reference
Ahhh, it totally is! I didn't even notice!
Day 1146 of telling Tyler that he never finished his minecraft series and that he should finish it.
Shiv build has finally returned
I admire the dedication of you doing this for over 3 years
@@Isometrix116 and it'll end at 2000 days, so we're almost there
God I wish Takashi Iizuka wasn't so correct about pixel art having 0 appeal to people outside of a certain gaming bubble because man I miss when the thumbnail looked good and not AI generated
I've recently gotten into Monster Sanctuary and rediscovered my love of pixel art in the process. Can't believe it's not more popular, those funky little squares slap ass
@@SeymourDisapproves pixel art is fantastic when done well but videos and games do like 3x better if they don't have pixel art I mean compare Sonic Superstars sales to Sonic Mania's, which is exactly why the Takashi Iizuka I mentioned, one of the producers of Sonic, talked about such a thing.
45 sec late
.
I liked my own comment
First
I love this series
It did hurt to see Tyler ignore the whetstones from the spinner game. The green one costs 1 energy to put poison on every weapon in the row, and the black one adds weak. With a max width row of shivs AND a coal, that’s ridiculously strong.
I'll try it next time, if I feel like it.
The whetstone/shiv quest was a lot of fun and opened my eyes to this synergy
I thought it added poison to yourself
@@shadowking2926 it does add one poison to self, but 3 poison to all weapons in the row. With 6 shivs in the row, that's an extra 18 damage turn 1, and 35 damage (if not 53) turn 2, for the cost of 1 (or 2) self damage. He also passed up the cleaning rag, which would've negated the poison to self easily.
@@shadowking2926 1 poison to yourself on use, and 3 poison to each weapon on the row if memory serves. Poison damage applies to you at the start of your next turn, so if you take out all the enemies turn 1 you don’t have to worry.
Hey Tyler, you need farms for cheese, which are locked behind the mayor's quest. Your population won't grow much either because he also gives houses.
Are the blacksmith and other buildings used to unlock new items also locked behind the mayor?
@@HeroErixYup. I think the mayor is literally required to progress the main quest after a pretty soon point for Tyler
I'm holding out for an update that makes the mayor obsolete. Crossing my fingers!
@@Aliensrockew😊ac
at some point the materials become worthless and you only focus on finishing the quests and getting the last of the items for upgrading.
The cool thing about Tyler's channel is that he actually listens to community feedback and pays attention to suggestions from the comments and such. Refreshing compared to many other channels on the platform. (Also happy to see more backpack hero)
I actually bought this game since because of these videos. And believe it or not there is a very easy way to generate food and population. However it's all locked behind investing in the mayor.
Best game you're playing by far.
The whetstones are amazing especially when used with shives. You shouldn't have passed them up
How do you not have farms?
Tyler I wanted to mention: Thank you for not letting the... kerfuffle in last episode's comments inform the mood of today's. Love your content.
The entertainment train must go on! At the end of the day, all that matters are the videos being fun.
I know you hate popups with lots of text that explains how things work, but something useful is that you can right click an item to "Read Card", then you can hover over keywords with symbols for short explanations, like Anchored in the video (although you did get it right) (these are also available in the Atlas, the book in the top right)
Haha, I missed this game when it was 1 dollar in my country, I'm an idiot
With that many shivs and a long backpack, skipping the poison and weaken whetstones hurt me physically
Tyler! You can actually level up before a fight if you click on an empty tile on the map, as long as you have enough xp of course. The level up icon shows next to the experience counter.
Tyler has singlehandedly changed my video game taste. My 3 most played games in the past month is backpack hero, luck be a landlord, and peglin!
This was the type of game I liked to watch but would never buy. The addition of the town quests has really changed this game for the better. $25 is still too much
Don't forget that scratch is an option if you wanna do more damage but something is too expensive!
If you’re struggling with food maybe bring back meals to sell. 🧀 📈
Watching the whetstones be passed up was sad, your backpack was already perfectly set up for it too
Another Backpack Hero Video lets gooooooooo
Having played this game a bunch, I unfortunately think your 1 video a day format will be GLACIAL for anything more than a cool look.
I am not sure why you hate the mayor so much, he does give one of worst quests in the game but otherwise the town hall is super helpul! You can use it as a main hub for all the different building quests (by connecting them to paths) so once you get all the buildings you don't have to run to each one to give them the items they want. Paths also do the adjency bonus for buildings that aren't adjacent :)
You could just build the town hall for the mayor and then ignore him?
I did see you were waiting for an update to make him obsulete but I don't think that is something the dev's are working on?
It's been ages... My prayers have been answered! Loved the backpack hero content!
Tyler, your food shortage would be solved if you gave into the demands of the mayor. He gives you blueprints for a farm, which generate large amounts of food.
