- Backpack Hero Part 5 - cracking the code for incredible damage. This run lasted for a while without a concrete identity, but then the cleavers took over. For a single energy, you can use a cleaver that uses a cleaver that uses... and the fight's over.

Yup, and they are free as of right now too.. so it is cool to play.
The both feel very similar to me, despite being so different.
It might just be because of the pixel art style and the genre being rogue-like. Not to mention the main character not being human and a similar-ish setting(at least for one level of Peglin).

You can say that again
Any item that has a blue direction tag in its description changes its direction based on how you rotate it. I.e. the citrine, if you turned it it would swap from below to left, right, or above.
Something to note with Ring of Doom: by pure numbers alone it's ALWAYS better than other damage-buffing items (with the exception of insane items like mouse wood in some builds). Getting more weapons adjacent to Ring of Doom means you multiply its damage scaling, whereas the flat buff from gems stays stagnant throughout a battle. It's just good.
Seeing the Nunchucks gave me an idea, though I don't know if it already exists; different item storage modes. Like, the Nunchucks take up a zig-zag space, yeah? Bend the chain of it to readjust. Which means that it can be a long, 4 or 5 block thing, or a regular 2x2. Feel like that would be a pretty cool utility thing to urge players into stuff like that. Hell, why not do whips or other string/chain weapons with it too, right? Coiled, or extended with the player being able to take advantage of it by, say, making it adjacent to a lot of stuff. Wouldn't have too much damage, but imagine the possibilities when combined with gems and other 'weapon must be adjacent/diagonal' shit.
I haven't seen that yet, so I doubt it currently exists.
Also from a design perspective, while I agree this would be interesting, it also requires a completely new interface for selecting a shape, so I wouldn't count on the developers making this a priority - there probably are less work intensive things that add just as much, if not more to the game.

Cleavers are insane, but I will say one thing: never, ever get rid of the thing that gives you rage when running cleavers. That tooth necklace (+6 rage on attack) would've given you 30 additional damage every time you attacked with 5 cleavers.

A few days ago they added a balance update to make king and queen cleaver cost 2 energy instead of 1. Very sad this build isn't quite as broken as it used to be, but I'm glad you got to see the op build while it lasted.
Yeah for a cleaver build you really neeeeed multiple rare cleavers. Then u can chain king queen and jack cleavers for really high damage. Not really worth it imo bc
1. You need multiple rare items for the combo to work
2. You need bonus energy too just to attack more that once
3. Super weak to spikes
Just overall not worth it imho
@@bfc9467 Then I'm curious to hear your favorite build because I've been playing this for a few weeks now (yes way before aliensrock started uploading about it) and personally my favorite build has been cleavers with cleansing flame for removing spikes. You are right that it is hard to get that many cleavers together since they are all rare, but that's why you grab like 5 luck rings. Also you get energy consumables pretty much every battle and I usually find the windmill relic for an extra energy too. If you're curious I was dealing like 300 or so by the time I died in endless. Can't rly remember it was a while ago.
@@bfc9467 If you're going for Cleaver build you really need the candle relic to remove the enemy's spike count over time. That or get a Mirror Shield.
@@SC-lunar Doesn't really matter how long you have played it when the last balance update massively impacted Cleavers.
But I agree it is probably still useable, it's just less something you can force and more something you have to hit the correct items/relics to really pop off.

Just started playing this game today, enjoying it!!! Haven't found many synergys but I dealt 250 damage after like 20 minutes in one battle.

You were very lucky at the end, there is another boss that unless you prepare beforehand, will absolutely decimate any cleaver build. Every time he takes damage he gets +1 spike and +1 regen (or maybe rage), simply put, cleavers and bow builds have to take it very very slow against him unless they have the correct items.
Bows don't take spike damage.
@@Firebat45 weirdly they do take damage on that boss. Got lots of bow runs destroyed by him. Idk why it has a different spike mechanic
@@Firebat45 I think they do after the update. I crushed that boss my first time because of the bow immunity to spikes but I recently got blindsided by a random enemy with 10 spikes while I was packing 6ish arrows.
@@Firebat45 true, however they do activate his rage buff. Meaning he will get more and more damage each time you attack.
fun thing to note is that cleavers have already been nerfed, all royal cleavers now cost 2 energy to use! they did increase their base damage to compensate so you're still looking to deal around the same amount of damage but it's harder to get them online. also, duct tape is your friend! can't wait to see what the build turns into going into endless! belt of knives is also amazing synergy, so long as you have king or jack cleavers.
speaking of cleavers, if you use duct tape in a cleaver build, you can actually get multiple loops that rack up crazy damage

Cool to see you using cleavers! I saw people in the Backpack hero discord use duct tape with multiple rare cleavers to get ~52k damage per click, though my record is ~2k. Cleavers are pretty op once you get the right items.

Despite all the strat ideas Tyler's presented me with, 3 days later I still havent been able to enter endless mode on this game, lol. Though I did manage to catch the update before Tyler's vid so it was really fun to see the episode right the morning after. And now this after a long long day, 2.30 am heading to bed is a blessing. Really appreciate you Tyler, feels like watching you daily has been a part of my routine for ages now and hell yeah Im hyped we're getting closer and closer to 500k subs! The most deserved 500k ever, honestly can't name a single video or series I didn't enjoy. Still gotta catch up with all the baba episodes though when free time becomes more abundant, theyre a blast even now, they just age like wine.
19:20 The correct organization there would be to swap the diamond and ruby placements because the diamond is conductive and so you can connect mana with it
14:40 the mask adds 3 mana to all mana stones, not 3 mana in general so you still want to have as much mana as possible
I tried a cleaver build and it was so insane, I was doing over 400 damage on my first move and the next did over 1000 but I never did the math. Anyways I died because an enemy had spike and I one shot myself
I had a win today with a forged spear and a ring of doom with a ton of mana, doing around 40 damage per hit by the end. I also only won the final fight agains the big fire gecko due to a cleansing potion to handle the fire.
The best build is still bow build even after the nerf, but it relies on you getting the mouse wood relic and for better damage the gym barbell too. This makes it so you can have 4 arrows gain 200% damage for each shot they make. After just 1 turn with 4 energy makes each arrow gain +800% damage and keeps scaling.
I’m an older sub who kind of stopped watching you about a year or two ago. This video came up in my recommended today, which made me look at your channel again. I’m glad to see that you were able to switch from only Bloons content to whatever you want and still receive a good amount of views! Keep up the good work!
Cleavers were very strong, so in the latest patch they got nerfed. However, new items were introduced that make them even more broken^^
I gave up an endless run after beating floor 99. At that point, the boss had 163,800 HP but I still killed it my first turn.

In case anyone is curious, the binary that shows up as he leaves the shop at 28:35 spells "gone ahead". There was a cut just before that, so that may be missing a bit at the beginning, but that's what I was able to see.

Oh , this is before the clever nerf of 2 energy to all clevers that use an other one , that also means shield build with shield activation is the only one that can bring it back to max use.

My strongest run was one with bow and arrow, the unique relic (give 200% damage this turn when arrows are used, arrows cant be adjacent), and 2 curved arrows. I grabed a lot of the high manastones with the ring of doom being diagonal to the arrows. I one turned the final boss by pumping up arrows like, +20 and then multiplying them by 200 multiple times.
5:52, At some point you should try the Metallic Wand, I quite literally was doing 1000 Damage on my 1st turn with it lol
How? I got up to 32 dmg per hit with mine, about 320 per turn
My last run I got a relic that made all shields use adjacent weapons at the cost of -1 damage for those weapons that battle. Additionally I had a shield that was a 2 by 2 that gave adjacent weapons +1 damage when used, thus cancelling the downside. So, of course I happened to find 2 copies of a legendary sword that did 20 damage.🙃

The relic that restores mana applies to surrounding stones - moving it one over, and having the highest capacity items next to it would increase its usefulness!
I hope to see alot more peglin content, I feel like he's barely scratching the surface of that games potential

If you press "m" in the menu (before you start the run) it will give you several options o start the run with bonus items
and now you got belt of knives, the dmg will go crazy

I had an insane run where I had two letters that both ran up the entirety of the weapon that does 4 damage to all, with several other buffs and hella armor, I had it ramp up to hitting for 86 damage per attack while I had like 80 armor and 30 spikes

So lucky you got grandmaster instead of king. King's thorn stacking is the bane of multi-hit builds.
The sound of enemies being repeatedly battered by cleavers reminds me of the gmod ragdoll sound
metallic wand is INSANE if you are going for a magic build! Each manastone gives extra uses AND extra damage! Combine that with some damage buffs like golden whetstone or ruby and maybe some mana regen-ing things like frog totem and ancient tome and you are good.
I understand the need for appealing thumbnails, i really do, and I like the color edits to make things brighter, but could we have less editing of gameplay elements?

a fun and chaotic run i had recently featured the (potentially broken interaction of) slime sword + bomb relic, basically sharpening five or six slime swords and then hurling them at enemies, and after combat they would regenerate. it fizzled out pretty quickly in endless when the mediocre amount of block i had wasn't enough to stack up enough800% whetstone buffs to land kills anymore, but it made me wonder just how far the chaos of the slime sword getting destroyed and still coming back could be pushed
The reason why I tried a cleaver build once and then abandoned it was The King. The King is one of the possible two (I think? there might be more) Last bosses. He gains spikes and rage for every hit landed, so imagine my surprise when my build killed me on my second use because I was dealt 99 damage per cleaver use

I think there is a relic that gives all weapons -1 rage on attack, so I'd say that's a must for eliminating cleaver's hard counter
Yeah, with King, you need to prep yourself with something to counter his spike scaling with your own scaling. Fortunately, the options available to counter him are many and don't require much space. Like if you had an Archangel Armour+Cleaver build, you can bide your time until you have enough block to start using your cleavers.
Berserker+Cleaver builds are good in endless until you reach an enemy with spikes.
The red candle relic removes a spike per weapon use, it's basically a necessity with cleaver builds.

Tyler, you should hover your cursor over the enemies to get more info, like some enemies are cowardly which means that if you kill all non cowardly enemies and end turn you’ll just win bc they will just run away like that sage toad

i remember my first cleaver build alwyays wanted to try one but never got the combo wont go in full detail but it was my best run ever and got me to endless mode magma zone ( also belt of knives with cleavers is overpowered but you need a king cleaver for it to break the game)

Ideally, there should be a build that can theoretically last you for as long as you're willing to play, but takes some skill to use

just so you know, theres currently a glitch where the sfx audio slider doesn't apply when u refresh the page. just gotta touch the slider to reset it.
My first bonkers run was Cleavers as well.
I also had the Ring of Doom, as well as the Frog Totem and Rack of Knives (that I saw Tyler just got at the end), so really really similar to this run. Plus I had the Stopwatch, which he passed up for the Frog Totem which also is insane with Cleavers.
Sad the build got absolutely gutted (all "uses X other Cleavers" cost 2 energy now) in the last update, but honestly with how ridiculous it was it might still be strong enough.

The good old days of queen/king cleavers being 1 energy
Seems like Luck rings are a bit exploitable. I'm not sure how they work, but they appear to upgrade one random loot item by one rarity level? So with 3 rings there's a slim chance they all affect the same loot item, upgrading it to Legendary. I'm going to experiment with the Luck rings more and just take every one I find. Also, I tried a Scratch build but the Claws are just Accessory and not boosted by Weapon buffs, and while you can stack them to your heart's content, I only see one or two per run. If there are items that boost Accessories, that could have potential. I'm sure there is some kind of powerful build for Scratch, just haven't figured it out yet. Then there's the more exotic builds I haven't tried that use Curses to boost weapons or the builds that regenerate destroyed weapons. Oh, if you run into the Fox event, definitely fight them. Its a challenge but they drop a wicked rapier.
Its funny that i searched for cleaver runs and both you and the other top recommended video for a cleaver run both found them early and went nah no cleaver run today then eventually turns into cleavers
