Muhammad Ali and Cus D'Amato discuss boxing srategies before the fight of the century.
    ▪▪▪
In March 1966, Ali refused to be inducted into the armed forces. He was systematically denied a boxing license in every state and stripped of his passport. As a result, he did not fight from March 1967 to October 1970-from ages 25 to almost 29-as his case worked its way through the appeals process before his conviction was overturned in 1971. During this time of inactivity, as opposition to the Vietnam War began to grow and Ali's stance gained sympathy, he spoke at colleges across the nation, criticizing the Vietnam War and advocating African-American pride and racial justice.Return to prizefighting On August 11, 1970, with his case still in appeal, Ali was granted a license to box by the City of Atlanta Athletic Commission. Leroy Johnson, Jesse Hill Jr. and Harry Pett had used their local political influence and set up the company House of Sports to organize the fight, underlining the influence power of Georgia's black politics in Ali' s comeback.Ali's first return bout was against Jerry Quarry on October 26, resulting in a win after three rounds after Quarry was cut.A month earlier, a victory in federal court forced the New York State Boxing Commission to reinstate Ali's license. He fought Oscar Bonavena at Madison Square Garden in December, an uninspired performance that ended in a dramatic technical knockout of Bonavena in the 15th round. The win left Ali as a top contender against heavyweight champion Joe Frazier. First fight against Joe Frazier Fight of the Century Ali and Frazier's first fight, held at the Garden on March 8, 1971, was nicknamed the "Fight of the Century", due to the tremendous excitement surrounding a bout between two undefeated fighters, each with a legitimate claim to be heavyweight champion. Veteran boxing writer John Condon called it "the greatest event I've ever worked on in my life." The bout was broadcast to 35 foreign countries; promoters granted 760 press passes.

Cus D'Amato had it right down to the letter. Ali was underestimating Frazier, but Cus had an accurate read on both Frazier's skills and Ali's style. He knew Ali relied on timing and quick reflexes, and how much hiatus can take away from that. When the difference between landing a solid punch and missing it is mistiming by miliseconds, you're gonna be way worse than a slugger coming off of a break.
He could see every crack and flaw in Ali, and every merit Frazier had. That's an incredible fight IQ.

He was. Ali didn't want learn Cross Arm defense from Moore because Ali felt as if his speed was enough to keep him safe and because Ali wanted to retire young. By not learning more conventional ways to defend, pressure fighters often gave Ali the hardest time in the ring and he took unnecessary blows that could have been avoided with different defensive styles in his arsenal.

Ali SERIOUSLY underestimated Frazier! And thats a serious understatement! All nite long, Frazier was clocking Ali in the jaw!!! If Ali hadn't infuriated Frazier, Ali would have probably won. But bcauz Ali made the fight more than a spectacle w/ the insults and name-calling, Frazier's focus was more lazer-like, thus his intensity in the ring was on another level. People on UA-cam have NO Idea who Cus D'amato was. HE WAS NOT A TRAINER. HE WAS A MATCHMAKER AND A MANAGER! D'amato would advise other Trainers and Managers how to groom their Fighters. He didn't believe putting Fighter at risk. He Managed Floyd Patterson and kept Patterson away from Marty Marshall ( who beat Sonny Liston and broke Liston's jaw ) Nino Valdez, Cleveland Williams, Ernie Terrell and Sonny Liston. D'amato KNEW Patterson couldn't beat those Fighters and Patterson felt slighted. He ignored D'amato and signed to fight Liston and got starched in the first round. After ANOTHER first round KO loss to Liston, Patterson Fired D'amato and D'amato became Manager to Jose Torres. After Managing Torres to the Light-heavy Weight Title, D'amato was EFFECTIVELY out of Boxing until Tyson came along.

Cus was the first to spot this wasn't the same Ali who fought Zora Folley in 1967. The foot speed had diminished noticeably and Ali was getting caught much more than ever before. But one thing the man never lacked was sheer toughness. He realised he could take a beating and keep coming. Ali's analysis in the beginning was actually spot on. If he were as fast as he used to be, Joe would have had a lot of trouble keeping up with him and timing that magnificent left hook. Only he didn't realise he couldn't keep that up for long anymore.
Joe Frazier, on the other hand, had so much to prove. He was the most motivated he'd ever been during this fight cuz he had to prove to everyone else he was the real champion. And he did. This rivalry will go down as one of the very greatest in the history of sport.

Ali of 1966 & 1967 would still lose to Frazier. One Frazier was not yet developed. The year this should’ve happened was 1968. By 1968 Frazier knew how to cut off the ring, Ali would be able to keep him at bay but as you can see here with Ramos title fight, Frazier was matching his foot speed. Ali was a lot faster than Ramos & a lot better, but it won’t take long for Frazier to be right in his face.

From the now gone Las Vegas boxing hall of fame channel on UA-cam run by the now late Steve Lott using Jim Jacobs and Bill Cayton’s footage from their vaults, a few years ago there were two 1 hour uploads of all the footage recorded of Ali and Cus debating over how Ali would get on with past greats for this documentary. I have also seen footage from the same time of Ali asking Cus what he thought of Sugar Ray Robinson. I can’t seem to find it now, do you have it? Cus gave an excellent explanation as to why he doesn’t class Robinson as pound for pound the best boxer ever, and it’s because he wasn’t really a boxer as he got hit often and was offensive minded. Cus D’Amato is wise and he can see things Ali can’t because Ali is blinded by his arrogance. Cus can see everything clear as day. This is why he is the greatest tutor of the sport. He never downplayed Ali abilities but he could see Fraser and Ali bout would’ve given Ali extreme trouble. He predicted it right on the money because he used intuition and observation to form that valid opinion.

Amazing how he said Frazier wanted to catch Ali trying to escape the ropes ... that’s the left hook that wobbled Ali in the 11h , after he had taken a huge left hook to the jaw, followed by a left hook to the body, Ali tried to Escape and Frazier pivoted and hit him with another left hook to the jaw and Ali fell into the ropes .

The footage with Cus is gold. Joe Frazier was born to win the Fight of the Century against the Fighter of the Century, and not much more. Ali needed Joe as he needed Norton to develop into a fighter who could defeat a new breed of heavyweight athlete, like George Foreman and Lyle. Frankly Ali's story is too big to tell because of his effect on us as individuals during that time, and since.

The gap between rounds one and two was exactly one minute.
The gap between rounds two and three was, again, exactly one minute.
Same again for rounds three and four.
But the gap between rounds four and five - the moment of the torn glove incident - was, precisely, one minute and six seconds.
In other words, only six seconds more than all the other intervals.
But as it was, a myth was born that Dundee had bought Ali minutes of extra time to recover.

I saw this and even had a fight VHS I made out of this and other fight video clips. The mutual sparring should have predicted a tough night. Like Cus said, he was an old man and--if he could do it--so could Joe... I don't think you beat the prime Joe with speed and athleticism, but you needed wisdom and toughness or power to jump on him early to do it.
That's why AIi won the last 2. It wasn't his speed and athleticism. Frazier had so much determination and energy! I do feel that AIi really won a close decision or it was a draw as far as what happened*, but you do have to factor in holding. I think NY penalized the fighter for excessive holding, so Joe may have won all of or drew in the close or semi-close rounds...
*But, there was no 2 point rounds.

That right hook that landed on joe fraizer should have knocked him out. Idk how the older heavyweights took such a beating. No wonder their brains were so damaged. Ali lasted longer than most fighters because ali knew how to stall the clock. He also did moves that are illegal today like holding behind the head. Constant holding and backhand jab. On another note they did let ali get rabid punched on the back of his head constantly. I guess they just didn’t care back then.

This is the prophecy about the second coming of Jesus
    Zechariah 13:7
“Awake, sword, against my shepherd, against the man who is close to me!” declares the LORD Almighty. “Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered, and I will turn my hand against the little ones.
    The Shepherd here is Jesus.
    John 10:11
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
This is the fulfillment of the prophecy.
    Matthew 26:31
Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written: “’I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
    This happened near 30 AD.
    Hosea 6:1-2
Come, let us return to the LORD. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds.
After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence.
In prophecies 1day is equal to 1000 years. Which means after two thousand years Jesus will return again.
And on the third day which is the 3rd millennium, we will live in his sight. We all know we cannot see God's face and live on Earth. So it's the second coming of Jesus.
    Luke 21:11
There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.
    Matthew 24:6
You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.
We are the witnesses of all these things. From the death of Jesus to 2030 there are 2000 years. Jesus is coming soon. Let's all repent and turn from our old ways and turn to the Lord.
    Praise the Lord.
Peace and Love to you all
Easter is pagan, the resurrection day of the Lord is correct and please stop taking the Lord's name in vain like saying omg or using it with a bad word or taking it in anyway that is in vain. Even the devil trembles in his name and we shouldn't use the powerful name like that. For the people who says Jesus is not God here's a verse.
    Isaiah 9:6
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
    Everlasting Father?. There's your answer
The whole world will turn against Israel and not just Palestinians. Then know the end is near.
    God bless you all.
Please spread this message to the ends of the world
