I never thought I'd edc a fixed blade but I've been carrying a mora Robust everyday for the last 2 years. I clip the sheath to my belt but have the rest of the sheath tucked into my back pocket next to my wallet and I never notice it until I need it and it's completely hidden if your shirts not tucked in but super fast and handy to use. Plus I'm a mechanic and beat the hell out everything including a knife so a cheap but super durable fixed blade is really nice. I also love the fact that my entire front pocket is free because I no longer carry a sturdy folding knife
Gave everyone in the family a CRKT S.P.E.W. for Christmas a few years ago and it has been everyone's favorite ever since. Would like to see an updated version of it (better steel, different scale options)
I have a Spew too, an it actually gets carried more than any other due to the different options on carry, mine is a front cross draw. I don't remember the steel on it. But I swear to me it was tuffer putting a mirror finish on the edge than my D2's an Aus 10's. Great lol knife though!
I have a spew and the sheath is terrible. So bad I leave it at home and prefer my minimalist if I want a fixed blade. Lately I've been carrying a Natrix.
Love my S.P.E.W.! I'm a big fan of wharncliffe blades in general but the spew is almost perfect for a pocket fixed blade, better steel and another 1/4 inch added to the handle and it would never leave my pocket!
I wear one Spew horizontally on my belt just right of buckle, for right handed death of box, plastic package, dog, human. I wear the other Spew hanging from my neck, under my shirt when I run outside.
FYI: If you’re going to pocket carry a sheathed knife with a pocket clip, it works much better if the pocket hem is horizontal. Slanted pockets don’t really work all that well.
Big Esee fan, I carry an Izula all the time. That purple Candiru with the orange scales made me immediately think of the Joker. He is a knife guy after all! Enjoyed the content, you’ve earned my subscription.
Another way to consider carrying a fixed blade if you need a low profile is lanyard waistband carry. CRKT's video on the Burnley Obake has a good demonstration as that knife was designed for that style of carry, but it works for pretty much any knife with a riveted sheath. All you do is tie a length of cord to the tip of the sheath, loop the cord around your belt, and slip the knife into your waistband or pocket. When you draw, the sheath should clear your body before the knife comes out, making it safe to draw quickly and re-sheath without stabbing yourself in the side.
That little scribe knife is awesome! Ordering one this week. That's the type a knife a working man would actually use all the time! Can't think of better option for a pocket shirt carry.
I have to say, as many already DCA, very informative choices and explanations. I also have to commend you on how you promote your company. You gave your brand no more attention than any other, for that sir I have much respect. Thanks for being you DCA!
Carry my Kwaiken Fixed with an Ulti 2.2 inside the waistband here in Germany 🇩🇪 And it is legal. No discussions about one hand opening or locking knives anymore 🙃!
@@JamesTheAxeThrower No, they did not, but you have three options in Germany: 1. fixed blade below 12cm, 2. one-hand-opening and non-locking or 3. two-hand opening and locking . (locking and one-hand is prohibited). Problem 1: you can open every knife with one hand. Problem 2: recently they decided, that even a UKPK is „locking“, because your finger prevents it from closing. Conclusion: __Ever__ folder is locking and one-hand-opening 🙁🙁🙁 (if your officer wants it that way). So, if you want to be on the save side: Carry a 11,5 cm fixed blade.
The Mikro quickly became my favorite knife, not just fixed blade. I added a lanyard and it completely changed the feel. Just gotta watch what you walk by with the magnet.
Well sure, but some people don't want to risk the gamble of a folding knife and prefer a fixed blade that's small enough to pocket and not scare off the dainty first date ;)
I gotta say I usually tend to go for the tactical aesthetic but that skipjack is an absolute beauty! The color scheme and the materials work so well together, kind of colorful without a hint of tackiness. By the way one brand to look out for if you want a decent and pocketable fixed blade for dirt cheap is Schrade. They use AUS8 and AUS10A steel which in my opinion is just fine for a knife like that and their cheapest neck knife cost around 20 bucks. Not quite premium but does the trick.
I EDC the Ka Bar Wrench Knife, I did have a deep slip sheath made for it by a leather crafter. It is so thin with no scales you barely notice it. It does dull quick, but you can bring it back to shave sharp in 10 minutes on a wet stone. ** Also IT'S A THICK BOY! The blade stock is very thick for such a small knife.
I’ve been EDC’ing a Benchmade 200 Puukko in a custom kydex sheath for about the last year and a half. It’s been a joy to carry and use, and I couldn’t recommend it more highly! The only thing that ~might~ make it better is if somebody were to start producing thinner, aftermarket, micarta scales for it. That said, the factory Santoprene handle is very comfortable and perfectly serviceable.
I want to say that benchmade is out of their minds pricing a small fixed blade like that, but then I remember that I own multiple spyderco fixed blades.
I know a black out bug out was 155.00. so since the bushcrafter was 200.00 . What's 50 more bucks for 3 times the knife. So I still do not have a bug out ..I own many other benchmade. But it forced me into buying the bushcrafter. I can't justify 150 160 for such a small knife. When their giant bushcrafter was 200. Always wanted a bushcrafter. But damn. All their folders were up to 300 bucks.
I love my benchmades-I have the cheaper hidden canyon in s30v-I carried that edc for a year-great knife. I only stopped carrying it so I can carry a guardian 3.5-I wanted a bit more blade. But that hidden canyon worked great on cleaning my deer last season.
Man! That Skipjack stole the show! Beautiful work and stunning colors. The sheath is superb as well, love the traditional appeal of the Blade/Sheath package.
I love that they give so many price range options in these videos in the same style knives and provide details. After watching about 30 of these videos I was wondering why I haven’t subscribed yet
I pocket carry a Becker campanion in my rotation and would enjoy seeing your front bolt hole lanyard set up in a future video. Thanks for the fixed edc love
I've been carrying a CRKT SPEW for years now. Actually I've carried one of three because I had to replace the first two. They didn't break, I lost them each time. This was when I had them mounted to my messenger bag, I'd think I slid it into the sheath when I hadn't. I check twice every time now.
Pocket fixed blade enthusiast here. Any short handled fixed blade that has a 3mm hole at the end of the handle can be "gorilla" gripped with a fairly simple paracord fobb. I prefer snake knots, but you can just as easily do a short solomon bar as well.
Love this subject, Mr. Andersen. The Ruike Hornet (F815) is a winner in this category, though bigger than most of the other contenders. It's very slicey, good ergos and handle size, utilitarian shape, stainless, and tough (is made from 14c28N).
UA-cam recommended this video to me and I clicked it without expecting all that much, but I have to say thanks for the great video. Quality information provided in a professional and entertaining manner. Deff hitting that subscribe button!
I've been waiting for this video for forever. I have owned the SOG Instinct (not the mini) for about 2 years. I love the little knife, just wish it had a 4 finger grip. While the sheath can be set up in almost any ambidextrous orientation, the retaining screw tends to come loose and the knife slings around or just falls off. I carry it in scout position, but unfortunately the clip doesn't hold very well. I tend to find my knife (with sheath) falling off or still in chairs when I get up. @KnifeCenter if you find a great full grip edc knife I can carry in scout on a pair of shorts sans belt, you'd make my day.
The Esse you can also paracord wrap the skeletonized handle.. sometimes I use the smaller diameter paracord 324 even 95 para .. which is available at many craft stores
I've been experimenting with different FB carry positions. In summer I primarily do neck knives as I'm usually in work out attire (when not working). In fall though, I love a good hoodie, and I tie the paracord to my belt, then slide the knife into the front hoodie pocket. Works great for a seruptitious draw in self defense scenario.
I carry an Esee 3 usually. It's pretty chunky and people sometimes notice it sticking out of my pocket but it's an awesome knife and I don't care about people seeing it.
I had one of those Cold Steel Urban Palls! It's so small that it's practically a joke knife, but it worked very well! Of course, you are not limited to a push-dagger type grip, you can hold it in a similar position to a normal utility knife. I wouldn't really want to get punched with it either, although it's not going to kill anyone.
The Hoback Goliath looks like a solid EDC option with a great sheath. More blade style options would be nice and without that "Jade G10" snot color. Love the Voxnaes designs, they just need larger finger choils. This MKM Mikro looks to have finally have the finger choil size necessary for legit usage.
7:34 thats a nostalgic color combo for me as well, it reminded me of a chewing gum spool - tape like bubblegum that came out when i was a kid, ...and after we realize that we have so mANly looking tactical knives, its silly not to fancy a colorful new blade... i luved it.
I have an L.T. Wright Patriot with double red micarta that is in my EDC rotation. I made a leather sheath so i can appendix cross draw carry it. Its a beautiful knife and my sheath turned out pretty good as well
I'm not gonna lie, we don't always see eye to eye on what we think makes a knife great; but you have made an amazing fixed blade with that skipjack. It looks perfect to be honest, and I think I have to get one now. I love a full flat grind on anything that isn't big enough for a scandi, and the size of that knife seems perfect. Drop point is obviously the superior blade shape, but maybe the sheath could use some work even though i applaud you for using real leather. You sold me when you first pulled it out; i didn't even need the whole presentation. kudos man
Some of my favorite fixed blades for pocket carry are Busses Active Duty’s and Mean Streets. I also like to pocket carry an Ontario Rat 3 and the ESEE 3.
Check out the clinch pick knife , carried on the weak side horizontally on the belt, used for up close / grappling defense. the SOG neck knife can be carried in the same fashion
@@harbour94 you didn’t... I tried to order it expecting to get an eta even a rough one. Nope.... you can order one with no clue when you may get billed or when it will actually ship. I canceled my order.

Just bought the Viper Berus 2 sheaps foot with green handles. Love it so far. Thanks so much for your video was very helpful in picking out my 1st true edc fixed blade.
About that Ka-Bar: Well, at one point (for nearly 3yrs) carried a set ofpliers, wrench & small folder - then got my hands on a leatherman. Still needed that wrench. Wouldn't mind finding it and that 'sheepsfoot' pattern.
I make a small 2 1/2 inch 5" OA knife out of O1 or Alabama Forge Damascus. I make them thin in profile with only .100 thick blades with exotic wood handles and a leather sheath designed for front pocket carry. I temper them out to HRC 59-60 for the O1 and Damascus is 57-58. I use rawhide for the pocket clip as it's hard as a rock.
I horizontal carry an esse izula just offset left of the belt buckle area. It’s fully concealed and comfortable to the point I don’t notice it there, even if I’m wearing basketball shorts. The included sheath is capable of horizontal carry so no added hardware needed
Bought myself a k-bar wrench love it, use it hard everyday at work and it holds up great. I'm in Australia so knives aren't super cool in public so I like that it doesn't look like I'm carrying a knife because I'd hate for someone to get freaked out.
Excellent video! My current Pocket fixed blade is the Boker plus PryMini Pro in D2 steel. Modified sheepsfoot with a bit of belly, works in gorilla grip/hammer grip. It is however a chonky boy at over 3 ounces (around 100g) with that D2 steel being almost 5mm thick...
in these videos about pocket carry knives no one talks about the cold steel spike (2013-) and I find a very decent knife for pocket carry.. 4''blade and 4''handle and a decent sheat. u can drop in a deep pocket and it disappear. and u can fast draw it by pushing up and back at the same time, like u would in a emerson wave assisted folder.
I'm definitely a folder guy through and through but I was actually thinking about trying out a fixed blade lately. The one that really caught my attention was the Artisan Cutlery Sea Snake designed by Michael Emler. I think that would have fit in well for this video.
@@Rime0ne first off clean your room more often and you probably get a better caliber of woman. And she said it’s yours for when you made breakfast for me while having my cutlery sea snake in your mouth
Regardless of what you have or haven't bought I'd like to recommend the gryphon m10. Its an excellent small sheath knife, its made of vg10,4 inch long blade, spear point, easy to use multi mount sheath. Only like $120 and designed by Robert terzuola. A fantastic knife I've carried every day for several years.
I was using the CRKT minimalist bowie for awhile. Regretful I has to get a deep-carry pocket knife to replace it. I did not want to like the Mini Bowie at first because, it seems like you can only use one grip on it. I am finding that the Piet is also a great knife. And I will add that pocket knives are less durable due to the moving parts. I am very impressed with how little the blade wiggles with this model.
Cool episode. Very surprised you didn’t mention the Ka-Bar TDI. That knife is carried by 90% of the law enforcement officers as their “ handgun retention tool “. It’s what I carry every day to protect against someone trying to snatch my sidearm.
I see that you went over the KAbar wrench knife but no mention of the BK12? Similar in size and in my opinion, being an EDC of it myself, exceeds the quality of a few of what you went over on your table.
You mean the BK11? Great knife. Similar in size, yes, but the sheath is much more substantial taking up significantly more room in the pocket. I have pocket carried a BK14 myself, but only in custom Kydex that leaves room for the other things in my pocket. -DCA
Great video. Take your factory Fallkniven F1 knife. 4 inch blade. Designed as a survival knife. Leave it in the ugly factory sheath. The whole unit fits comfortably in the front pants pocket of a Brooks Brother suit. You are correct about a knife in a sheath dangling down a leg. If you have to wear a windbreaker all day, there are options. I have behind the back carry knives (Esee4, ZT0160, ZT0170 and others) in horizontal sheaths. For all that, you can wear a shirt with a long tail, a lumber jack shirt, an oversized work out shirt.
A couple of other great knives I think you missed CRKT minimalist..(possibly for that little tiny jeans pocket ) . Cold steel super edge! .. in another one of my favorites.. condor kickback.. made out of carbon steel with a coating
I can really reccomend the wrench knife + ulti clip combo 👍 although there are a few things to be mentioned. The knife itself definetly needs a regrind to a 20⁰ angle as it comes rather dull + having steep angle. On top of that, if you have the possibilities fot that, I would highly reccomend to thin out the blade quite a bit to get the full potential of the blade. Otherwise the knife itself is really slim to carry in pocket but the ulti-clip can sometimes get into the way when drawing the knife or putting it back. But a great chouce for carrying in overalls side pockets
My coworkers already think Im a wierdo. The wrench knife suits me.

There is a white and OD green option available as well with the link in the description. Cheers! -DCA
You can color dye that natural g10
7:34 thats a nostalgic color combo for me as well,
it reminded me of a chewing gum spool - tape like bubblegum that came out when i was a kid, ...and after we realize that we have so mANly looking tactical knives, its silly not to fancy a colorful new blade... i luved it.
I have an L.T. Wright Patriot with double red micarta that is in my EDC rotation. I made a leather sheath so i can appendix cross draw carry it. Its a beautiful knife and my sheath turned out pretty good as well
I like the look of the slipjack! Well done! I’m going to have to grab one of those!
You sold me when you first pulled it out; i didn't even need the whole presentation. kudos man
i also have to get one of those mkm mikros. how cool is that
Cold Steel's Peacemaker 3, their 4" Morakniv, has a sheath that can be clipped to your pocket, effectively making it a pocket fixed blade.
I love fixed blades. Can y'all do a vid about bigger ones? Some that your wouldn't put in you pocket but rather on your belt or smth
I carry a Kershaw double edge boot knife in my pocket. The clip works great as a release.
Great Video DCA! I just ordered a L.T. Wright Patriot from y’all! Love the Nordsmith!
I've been waiting for the Patriot to come back in stock.. Must have missed it!
@@harbour94 you didn’t... I tried to order it expecting to get an eta even a rough one. Nope.... you can order one with no clue when you may get billed or when it will actually ship. I canceled my order.
@@harbour94 DLT I think had a few in D2 still in stock... I decided to grab a Frontier Trapper in A2 and non- polished green micarta... I am stoked
@@chrisreuther4546 Thanks for the tip! Yeah, I'm in the same boat with a pakkawood Delica, ordered about a month ago and no idea when it's coming.
@@harbour94 that sort of sucks... I get it and at the same time... I don’t.... why not say they are a special order or something ... and then I’d expect to pay to have it legitimately made
I'm glad you designed a knife that fits your "slightly larger than average hand" Best of luck with that. 👏
Thanks a bunch, Mr. Anderson. Lovely, sensible video. Enjoyed every bit of it. Good day to you, sir!
I have a knock off Bastinelli Picoeur and I love it. Its my back up, back pocket knife.
I carry a Bark River JX6 in a Northwoods Ponco sheath with a ExoTac firesteel.
I like the look of that little Skipjack! Especially the satin finish
Coooool
I horizontal carry an esse izula just offset left of the belt buckle area. It’s fully concealed and comfortable to the point I don’t notice it there, even if I’m wearing basketball shorts.
The included sheath is capable of horizontal carry so no added hardware needed
Purple and orange are a good idea.. I am tired of loosing black knives on black counters.
Bought myself a k-bar wrench love it, use it hard everyday at work and it holds up great. I'm in Australia so knives aren't super cool in public so I like that it doesn't look like I'm carrying a knife because I'd hate for someone to get freaked out.
As a mechanic I'm half tempted to get the wrench knife plus as a marine vet I've got a bit of a biased love of ka-bar
My favorites are the Planck and the Double Agent.
Cold steel mini pendleton is one of my go to for pocket or neck carry
in these videos about pocket carry knives no one talks about the cold steel spike (2013-) and I find a very decent knife for pocket carry.. 4''blade and 4''handle and a decent sheat. u can drop in a deep pocket and it disappear. and u can fast draw it by pushing up and back at the same time, like u would in a emerson wave assisted folder.
How about the fixed blade horizontal carry knives.
I enjoy these videos as they give me new ideas for new knives I'm not aware of.
I'm definitely a folder guy through and through but I was actually thinking about trying out a fixed blade lately. The one that really caught my attention was the Artisan Cutlery Sea Snake designed by Michael Emler. I think that would have fit in well for this video.
Is the fold knife an old timer? If not are you considering starting to wear dresses as well
@@codyrinehart5479 Nope. But speaking of dresses, can you tell your mother to come pick hers up. It's been on my bedroom floor for a week🤣🤣🤣
Fallkniven Kolt is perfect in my pocket. Bet the R2 would be great as well but overbuild isn’t my jam. I love my Kolt.
Nice to see mummert get some love
“A nice rigid amount of flex” that’s the best description if I’ve ever heard one
I’ve been waiting for this my whole life!!!
My edc fixed blades are the LT Wright Patriot, LT Wright Frontier Trapper, Dan Tope Lucky Seven, and Tops MSK 2.5.
Cool episode. Very surprised you didn’t mention the Ka-Bar TDI. That knife is carried by 90% of the law enforcement officers as their “ handgun retention tool “. It’s what I carry every day to protect against someone trying to snatch my sidearm.
Yeah I carry one too I'm fat so it helps too with how the handle is curved so it doesn't dig into my stomach
Man the little sheep’s foot with the leather sheath held by magnets is slick
That Skipjack will be my new favourite EDC knife. Good jod David., you know what's the best...!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
-DCA
My Fav is the Viper Berus1. I like the M390 steel. The kydex is a bit to big, but I got a custom one.
Big thanks to this review. I just ordered a sog mini which is both a neck/ pocket carry fixed blade.👍👍👍
A couple of other great knives I think you missed
CRKT minimalist..(possibly for that little tiny jeans pocket ) . Cold steel super edge! .. in another one of my favorites.. condor kickback.. made out of carbon steel with a coating
That Skipjack is gorgeous!
missing the Mora eldris. I work in forests/agricultural land and it's my go to edc. They're cheap enough that you can collect the different colours
DCA I knew there was something I liked about you!! MD born and raised!
The Viper Berus followed by the Benchmade Hidden Canyon 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
2 added to the list
I can really reccomend the wrench knife + ulti clip combo 👍 although there are a few things to be mentioned.
The knife itself definetly needs a regrind to a 20⁰ angle as it comes rather dull + having steep angle. On top of that, if you have the possibilities fot that, I would highly reccomend to thin out the blade quite a bit to get the full potential of the blade.
Otherwise the knife itself is really slim to carry in pocket but the ulti-clip can sometimes get into the way when drawing the knife or putting it back. But a great chouce for carrying in overalls side pockets
