In the pantheon of great songwriters Paul Simon occupies a rarified position.
i was born in NYC and lived there for 52 years. Praying for my old home town in these terrible times. Music heals and soothes the soul.
Don't you live in NY anymore?
Music will smooth the most Savage beast

Sadly that music can't fix useful idiots.
@@fakutube9834 This is true.
If I could go back in time, I would mortgage my house to go see this concert!
2024 I listen to this from Bangkok, Thailand
I listen from Santiago, Chile.
One of their best live performances I've seen!
I ALSO THINK IT WAS THEIR BEST LIVE PERFORMANCES EVER TOO.
Jiggy Wiggy ASMR
Agreed.
99 likes and not a single dislike so far....this tells everything :)
I would consider this one of the top live performances for any artist
Both in their prime. Perfection.
Exactly. best concert of all time

This concert was on my 10th birthday in 1981. I watch it now aged 50.
Encore merci pour cette vidéo. A regarder et écouter sans modération en 2024 comme en 1968. 56 ans et toujours pas une ride (sauf sur mon visage) ! Ce morceau est sur ma playlist depuis 2015.
This concert started out great and became better and better as the evening went on. They are at the Top of their Game during this period. Fabulous!!!
Will never forget this magical night...one of my first OT "Details" as a young NYPD MOS...Fantastic music and a really great, mellow crowd...

We easily forget that concert was in September of 1980
Whenever I'm feeling sad or frustrated, I watch Simon and Garfunkel..I must admit, I have a crush on Art..😍
No earpieces, relaxed and comfortable as if in front of friends in the living room, what performances. Thank you.
It's Jan 2021, still watching this concert over and over as a stress reliever. Feeling stressed since the start of pandemic early last year, this has been my daily indulgence to date.
Yes thats true. Listening to their music relieves all worries.... Their voices are so soothing...
Carmen, I understand you so well! 🌹 Never doubt that you’re not alone, dear.
Mine also I saw them in concert 3 times they are great and relaxing
HANG IN THERE CARMEN! WE'LL KNOW THINGS REALLY ARE BACK TO NORMAL WHEN THOUSANDS OF FOLKS CAN GET TOGETHER AND ENJOY GOOD MUSIC WITHOUT WIGGING OUT. BLESS YOU!
Por um novo tempo
I finally found it!!! I wore out 2 vhs tapes of this concert and 3 cassette. my husband proposed to me in one of their concerts during bridge over troubled water and my girls have grown up with S&G from birth

2022. I love Mrs. Robinson, and you ?
The way they sing ‘and here’s to you, Mrs Robinson’ at 0:58 makes me so happy, I don’t know why
" Heaven holds a place for those who pray." 🌈☀️.💜.
The young people of today such as myself who listens to this era of music, thankfully still have taste
Friend, you can be quite sure of that, music like this is no longer "manufactured".... ;)
I grew up with Simon and Garfunkel. I sang the songs during my newspaper delivery era. I hope someone was inlfluenced (probably not by me singing but the songs are so strong) so the music will spread throughout time.........
They sang the anthems of a complete generation (or 2). We should cherish this music that was sang with such beautifull harmony and social relevance.
Simon was really rocking this performance.
God bless Simon and Garfunkel
I'm very happy now..
My favourite American singing duo of all time, Paul Simon is a genius and that Garfunkel bloke can hold a note.

A Film, A Song ... A Song, A Film ... Two Masterpieces
We were blessed by God more than we could know back then ...Brilliant memories.
I'm here for the love of music
Damn, Paul's got some serious moves, and that epic high five at the end haha
The flamingsword what high five?
Paul was more talented. Garfunkel was the nerd
Putting in a good word for Artie. He has some great moves in this spectacular performance. He’s the sexy one IMO-speaking as a woman who grew up on these songs. Plus his voice is wonderful. Absolutely angelic when he sings “Bridge Over Troubled Waters.”
@@carolynshaffer425 Nah Paul’s so hot he’s smoking’ here.....
This is the greatest opening in a live concert ever.
Tellement de regrets de ne pas avoir là ❤

You just don’t get music like this anymore!! So well written sung! You can sense this was written by one person and brought to life by two incredible people
Truly magic, they're two marvelous people
True
It's marvellous, like every Song the still sing.

One of the best songs ever made by human beings
INCREDIBLY TALENTED MUSICIANS,WHO ENTHRALLED THOUSANDS FOR MANY YEARS,AND THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO OLD AND YOUNG WAS AND STILL IS -MEMORABLE!
In den 60ern haben sie mir gefallen, aber erst jetzt merkte ich, wie gut ihre Musik tatsächlich ist!
Hello Edith
Exactly forty years ago today this concert was held in central part. Each time I watch this video I feel it's just happening right before my eyes. Salute to S&G. The best concert ever!
Im born in 1990 and i wish i could have visited this concert. The whole concert is outstanding.
Wish those two had gotten along better over the decades. Never got enough songs with them together.
You don't just watch S&G, you experience them.
Bazooka Joe True that
The show the Simon and Garfunkel Story is AWESOME Go see it we saw it in Ft Myers Monday night and relived all the songs again.
Wow well said
Oh yes Bazooka. Yey !!

when doing it live works perfectly you know they're world class
Hi ti every one from RBB
Sometime two people come together, they click and this is what you get, PERFECTION!!!!
One of the greatest concerts EVER.
No gimmicks, just raw talent.
Le même !! Hippodrome d'Auteuil Paris 8 juin 1982, une tuerie !! Une canicule !! 3 jours de camping devant l'hippodrome avant le concert 😅
Paul Simon is a national treasure
I love it! This is their first song together in 11 years. They've got a nine (?) piece band behind them, so Paul Simon does a long intro to get everyone in sync. After 14 bars of vamping (36 seconds) Paul Simon cues Art by shouting "RIGHT NOW". They step up to the mics and come right in together. What a moment.
Thats not True because in 1975 they recorder my little town together
@@wouterwerner4534 I stand corrected, thank you. I went back to wikipedia. It says during the 11 years apart, they worked together only sporadically on single projects.
Cheers for pointing out exactly what everyone's just watched lol
Thanks for shering.

Looks can be deceiving. At this point they actually hate each other but did the concern anyway
What a magical duo they were, fantastic music
No one can ever really say they just listen....its a complete experience....thank you S&G.
" GOD BLESS YOU " 💞 " MRS ROBINSON " 🌷
Those were the days. Once they are gone, they are gone.
Thanks to my aunt, I used to listen to every latest song in all her albums and this two were one of them. Never fails to be reminded of her.
One of the greatest songs ever written and performed.
One of the best bands of all time. Absolute legend.
My cousin had the double LP of this unique concert: when I first heard the album at the age of 14, I was overwhelmed by this sensational music. The fascination and enthusiasm for this album has not lost even after 40 years.
My exact timeframe
In the LP, do you still hear the audience in the background, or is it just S&G
@@jimmyskwid9002 yes, you hear the audience and feel the enthusiasm
@@DonFranko68 cool. Something about hearing the audience with S&G enhances the experience, to me personally at least. Wish I could see em (S&G)
Best concert ever with these two genius musicians .
They were born to sing together ❤. Their voices are amazing. Real music in my eyes and I wasn't even born until 1984.
i was born in NYC and lived there for 1 year. I remember this concert
Are you saying you were there, in the audience? In this video?
The best live performance of Paul and Art : absolutly perfect ! I'm italian and for me this concert is a real dream : Simon and Garfunkel at Central Park , the TOP !!! 🇮🇹🇺🇲

raised up in the nineties, hiphop, hardcore, trance, rock.
I discovered their music at age 10 in the collection of LP records of my parents.
i realy love music, even now i am already 45 years old, i love nowadays music, but this concert was magical and something special
Real music from real artists, no auto-tune here.
Timeless
Everytime I hear this song I think about my maths teacher I had a few years ago. She was extremely sweet and nice, she also knew I had horrible anxiety along with others in class and wouldn’t feel comfortable raising our hands to ask for help so she would always come and see if we needed help 💗 she never knew much much it meant to me but I was devastated when I didn’t get her foe the next school year
best concert in New York history
This is 1 of the moments I wish I could go back into time for an experience.
For those who do not know NYC, the wooden tanks are traditional and common in the skies of NYC, just as the wind fans and pipes are a recreation of the terraces of Midtown.
These guys will never be matched. True Legends S n G
wa wa wa, woah, woah, woah, hey, hey , hey - my deceased mom's favorite song and she sung it often. We watched this often, God Bless You Mom & mrs. robinson - hey hey hey, S & G are great

Ich freue mich sehr, die beiden endlich mal wieder zu hören und zu sehen. Einfach toll, Mrs Robinson
I remember when they were heralded for being the first to write and perform songs for a major motion picture..Nothing has changed-they could perform together tomorrow and still sound great and be recognized for how good they are together.
J'aimerais tant voir Simon & Garfunkel en concert ❤

I'm 53 from Russia.I've never seen their consents. But I've had little vinil with two songs, since I was 6 - The Boxer and M. Robinson.I could listen them again and again, without understanding.Melody and voices. They are the BEST FOREVER for me.
Simon's solo is epic...
I watched this 3 hour concert on a VHS video in 1979 - 1980...I was 12. Great memories...awesome music. Can’t believe that that was 40/years ago!
This concert was about 80 minutes, and performed in 1981 :-)
Brazil loves Simon and Garfunkel!!!
I was there. How can anybody give a thumbs down is beyond me.
What a Band....Grady Tate and Steve Gadd on Drums, Anthony Jackson on Bass, Richard Tee and Rob Mounsey on Keyboards....what a rhythm section...guitars and horns great too.
The lyrics were originally "Mrs. Roosevelt". Paul Simon played riffs of the song as filler music for "The Graduate" during filming. He changed the words to Mrs. Robinson for the movie, but didn't have a completed song at the release of the film. It wasn't till "Mrs. Robinson" became a hit after the movie was released that he finished the song and recorded it. He said the "Joe DiMaggio" line came to him in a stream of consciousness. He wasn't sure what It meant, he just liked the way it sounded.
ssazerac thanks but no thanks. So sick of people posting their “special insight”. Your not great. S&G are great. See ya!!
@@jefffoster8614 Not my insight. Paul Simon's explanation in this interview: ua-cam.com/video/vzDp2d5b_o8/v-deo.html
So... this is awkward... for you.
ssazerac - Yeah, this song was originally written for Mrs. Roosevelt, First Lady to the President that lifted America out of the Depression, through WWII and into the economic boom, baby boom '50's... It was meant as a nostalgic song about a more innocent, honest time... A church-going time... A more hopeful time... America had lost its way and was looking back... Don't mind Jeff Foster, the world is full of bitter people, hey, hey, hey...
What a great time it has been! History has stopped now.
What?! If history stops, then time stops.
What a song and I still remember every word by heart...We shall overcome this going into 2022...From Yorkshire UK, living in Montreal Qc for 45yrs. Songs of my youth that are totally unforgettable and are being brought to the forefront by many of today's youth. Do not judge, rather observe and analyze.
GOLD , PURE GOLD !!
