Homeward bound
Home where my thought's escapin'
Home where my music's playin'
Home where my love lies waitin'

I remember as a young 19 year old in 1967 on my way to Vietnam in a U.S. Navy ship. Singing this new song and already wishing I was homeward bound. Finally in 1968 when my tour of duty ended came back to America, San Francisco, I kissed the ground when I got off the ship. I was home. Here I am age 75 and how this song brings back memories. Where did the last 55 years go to. One moment I'm a kid and the next moment I'm an elderly man.
Sounds like you have some wonderful memories x
Why not put it all in a book with pictures and any trinkets put it all together in a tin that’s a great why to keep you life memories alive coz there are people all over our world 🌎 wishing they too were Homeward bound. Godbless and keep you in his good graces 💕💙🏴
I can relate to your memories Paul. All these great hits from yesteryear....But my mind still thinks like a young person but then it is such a different image when I look in the mirror!
I’m glad you’re home Paul, Thank you for your service. We’re from the same generation and I can definitely relate to you.
@@annmcpherson5880 thank you
I was there in Central Park. What a memory and nostalgia. I 'm now 73. Timeless.
could you feel the burn?
You are such a lucky human being. Once in a lifetime concert.
I was there .... tripping .... it was a great night .... i am 61
I'm pretty sure my parents and I watched it on TV. I would have been 10 at the time.
You guys are so lucky 😍 I grew up listening to this amazing duo. My dad loves them so much and he would play the greatest hits cd and it kickstarted my love for them and other 60-70’s bands and artists 💗
Love from Philippines 🥰
Two superb musicians and one guitar. Enough to stop everything. These guys are magic. Sheer magic.
Stunning
At the core, yes. But there is an amazing set of session musicians supporting them and they and the producers and technicians are the ones that make this a legendary concert +50 years later.
Damn, I blinked and got old. But I still have this.
Me gusta la música de Paul Simón y Garfunkel.
I totally agree. I've a couple of LPs (remember those things?)in the cupboard upstairs. It's great to see LPs making a comeback but hey what a price hike.
l love your comment. Same here.
born in '51 but I'm still rockin, I could not sing to save my life but sure enjoy listening to those who could. Damn cat is eating my hair again as I try to type... do love her tho. Sorry about that.
I know what you mean ... yesterday i heard this and i was 18
Today I'm 50 ... but i still enjoy this voices
2024 anyone?❤️
Im a Scotsman and i love S and G. When covid is over I will go to Central Park....lay down on the green grass with a bottle of Jack Daniels...put my headphones on and let this full concert flood my brain
Do it, brother - and let me know - I'll meet you there.
I wish to be there with you with a battle of rum… enjoy…
I like to hear this music esp. S & G.
We will join you.
Invite me,will ua
What I wouldn’t give for a time machine.
I know just how you feel
I saw this live but on telly age 10. Rare to have a gig on telly but it was!
Same here.
Been listening to some tunes from my younger days thinking how odd it is you can just find anything on youtube, when back then you had to wait to luck out and it be on the telly or radio :)
no autotune, no virus, no social distancing, no special effects... only very good music
I used to sing these Simon and Garfunkel songs to my children when they were settling down to go to sleep . I do the same now with my grandchildren now . You have left a mark on our family . Thankyou JT
That's beautiful 🤗
A have a Great Grandson 9 years old he love his cell phone or computer-but I put this record on -he stops and listen to it good music
❤️🤗
My Nana used to sing these songs to me after a couple of glasses of vino colapso lol. One of my most treasured memories. I sung them to my kids and now they sing them to their children, I have a strong feeling it'll be sung for generations.
That's lovely, I always remember the words, very lovely and mea6
January 31 1968 2;45 P.M., I'm on a Medivac flight with My left leg blown all to hell and as that Freedom Bird leaves the tarmac headed for America and the landing gear clunks into place the Pilot plays this song and the entire flight breaks into silence as it sinks in. After all these Years it still moves My soul
Im so glad you're home. My brother came home from QuanTri in '69. Im glad he's home, too. Please take care, and sincerely, from a sister of a Marine who served there, I say thank you. Wish you heard that then.
So glad you made it home! Thanks for your service.
I am just about to go into service. Thank you for being an inspiration to many.
For me it was 80-01 and this song was my lifeline on many long deployments to places I never wanted to visit! Thank you Bro, our Country is worth it!
Brought tears to my eyes.... thank you for your service!!!
Paul Simon wrote this classic at Widnes train station in the north west of England. This is a fact that Widnes is proud of. They have a plaque in the station and it is played during their rugby league team
matches. However they don’t get what Paul is trying to say. Basically he would rather be home rather than the shithole he found himself in. Having been born in Widnes I can only concur Paul.
I live in Warrington and I totally agree 🤣🤣🤣
David Speed... Paul song homeward bound, was about home where Cathy was while Paul lived here. There's an interview on Utube, saying so. He was thinking about Cathy who was waiting for him back where they shared as home here in the UK... Hence the song. Rather sweet,he was so in love with Cathy. Pity she didn't stick with him.
How many people like me grew up with the beauty of these 2 .... Carries me through this time
Their very first concert since their split, the very first song, and Art Garfunkel does what he does best. Put his hands in his pockets and belts it out! Awesome.
Rusty Martell It actually wasn‘t the first song! The first song they played that night in 1989 was „Mrs. Robinson“.
@@lassegotz5274 the concert was in 1981.
Mark Mikel Ohh yeah..mixed it up. My bad
I Love This Song! The music is catchy and the lyrics are interesting!💗💗💗💗
They sound even better live than on recording here. I was actually there at that concert, September 1981. Wonderful memories!
Lucky you!! What a show it must have been.!
wow
Indeed it was! One of my favorite memories...
tell us any memories!
You are so lucky!!!! I bet it was life changing:)
That was 40 years ago. 21 songs. 500,000 people in Central Park, NYC.
Can’t imagine that happening today…
Simon and Garfunkel’s music helped shape a generation. After a more than successful duo career, they both became exceptional solo artists. The concert in Central Park still blows my mind. Throughout all their differences, they were able to come together for my favorite concert ever.
Oh wow. Were you at that concert? I was only 4 or 5 depending on the month that year in 1981.
I Love This Song! The music is catchy and the lyrics are interesting!💗💗💗💗
No light show, no pyro techniques, nothing but the music, because it doesn't need anything else.
Exactly!
You know, it's still day.. And have you seen the stage? This is not only the music.
Jon Goff amen
AMEN-
listeners enjoying music , not playing with their phones
I hope one day, we’ll be able to gather in Central Park again and listen to beautiful live music.
I ĺj
You will! Just hang in there, it'll get better!
It will be okay, it will all be all okay in the end... hang in there and if you want to talk, then I’m here... really you can hit me up if you want to, i’ll gladly talk!
I've never been to NY But "listening to beautiful music in Central Park" sounds like a cure! I got sort of stuck in Orth Carolina and I'm Terri ly homesick for West. I should be able to go in 6 mo. I cant even imagine another year here.
.
Amen to that
I can't find words to adequately express how moved their music makes me feel. What will future generations think? Who will be their Simon and Garfunkel? Everyone should feel how they make me feel.
I'm 72 now and Simon and Garfunkle were the backdrop to my youth. I still love them as much today. Thankyou Simon and Garfunkle for your beautiful music.
55 years old living in Seoul South Korea. In 1980 I was in middle school but I still got a goosebumps whenever I headed this song. Thos is a timeless legend.
Christmas Eve 1968 in An Hoa Valley....a young Marine with a guitar was singing Homeward Bound. Didn’t know him or his name.
He was from Colorado and will never forget him and that beautiful song.
❣️🙏❣️
I'm sittin' in the railway station
Got a ticket to my destination
On a tour of one-night stands
My suitcase and guitar in hand
And every stop is neatly planned
For a poet and a one-man band
Homeward bound
I wish I was
Homeward bound
Home where my thought's escapin'
Home where my music's playin'
Home where my love lies waitin'
Silently for me
Every day's an endless stream
Of cigarettes and magazines
And each town looks the same to me
The movies and the factories
And every stranger's face I see
Reminds me that I long to be
Homeward bound
I wish I was
Homeward bound
Home where my thought's escapin'
Home where my music's playin'
Home where my love lies waitin'
Silently for me
Tonight I'll sing my songs again
I'll play the game and pretend
But all my words come back to me
In shades of mediocrity
Like emptiness in harmony
I need someone to comfort me
Homeward bound
I wish I was
Homeward bound
Home where my thought's escapin'
Home where my music's playin'
Home where my love lies waitin'
Silently for me

Guys like Art Garfunkel and Robin Gibb singing like angels while casually putting their hands in their pockets! Just pure talent.
Indeed
Thankyou for mentioning Robin Gibb. His harmonies were perfection.
@@phoenixgreen9047 Robin Gibb is beautiful. His voice is pure melancholy. He remains one of my all time crushes. He lives on in his songs.
I allways think these guys are the sound of america
I think they're the sound of America as it once was. Today's America sounds like... well it's not good.
Sound of America huh, well shoot, I always thought they were the Sound of Silence.
To this day, guys I still think they're the sheer sound of great America.
lol Kanye West and the Kardashians?
@@BartAlder just say it Bart,a big overflowing toilet struggling to flush
this song sounds like good life should be, smooth and light
Listening this during the pandemic and I feel like crying.
Twill be ok Susan xx
Listening to this song really meant for the stranded people, those who are not at their home during this pandemic.
hang in there Susan
The music is genuine, the "pandemic" is politicized trash to change everyone's way of life.
@@southerncharity7928 ain't that the fn truth...
I have been listening to Simon and Garfunkel for over fifty years now..Timeless music Still beautiful...
Their harmonizing is something special, some sort of strange magic.
They sure try to avoid looking at each other, but man, these voices belonged together.
They may as well have been on stages in different cities for all of the interactions they had.
Art brought so much to Paul's genius. Beautiful complement in harmony
Come writers and critics throughout the land etc. Stuck e
i'm not sure the chemical reaction i'm experiencing but when they harmonize it makes me almost burst out in tears......
Majinjef2099 its the onions.. having same problem at my house...
Same here!!!
Me too... Especially since I'm 7000 miles from home and flying back tomorrow
Hmm no chemicals involved, sorry. It’s your soul. Contrary to modern teaching, science can fit with Creation :)
Majinjef2099 - I feel the same way.
New York shall never see a more electric, gritty, limitless and beautiful time. I mourn.
I was born in '81 and was raised by a musical family!! And this brings me right on home in 2020 👍😌
Listening to " Homeward Bound " song March, 2020. A beautiful, precious music.
if only music was still like this 😩
Covid song.
100% de razón😊
I have always liked these guys. Their lyrics saved me..
I remember my granddad playing this to me as a kid and singing along to it, even now he's gone I can still remember it so vividly, I hope I can always remember this song and the memory of that moment with it
Your Grand Dad gave you two gifts. The song. And the memory. These are priceless. Thanks for sharing.
The music in the '60 '70 and '80 is the best.....
Best duo EVER...., as in ever....
Why can't they make music like this anymore. Classic
Why is there no one this good anymore? These two and a few others were the soundtrack of my life for so long. And in some ways still are: This album is part of the #1 playlist on my phone. What fascinates me now is that my kids, 27 and 32, still know this music and appreciate it more than the stuff today's bands and songwriters create and produce. The best music lasts a very long time.
Great music is timeless.
Porque hace mucho tiempo la música dejó de ser música.
They are shockingly perfect
These two great singers are such a gift to the whole world.
Thank you!!!
Everyone should thank Mr Ron Delsner for getting them back together for this. Ron was always for NY and for the music industry in general. He deserves his rightful place among these great performers from past to present in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
"Silently for me" sends shivers down my spine. It's just so good. How do they do that?
Who ever thought this place, Central Park, would be a ward for people dying from a horrible pandemic. Wish it was back to the old days when it was a place people went for beautiful concerts, especially with our boys from Queens.
FOR MYSELF, " GINGER BAKER(REST IN PEACE WITH JACK BRUCE") AND " AIR FORCE" WAS A HELLUVA SHOW, AT "WALMAN'S RINK. THEN, YES THEN, "JIM MORRISON & THE DOORS", OPENED ACT " THE WHO", AT FLUSHING MEADOW'S WORLD'S FAIR STADIUM" , FINALE BY "DOORS' LED TO MINI RIOT. GOT THE HECK OUTTA THERE, JUMPED INTO MY 1963 THUNDERBIRD(BRITISH RACING GREEN, 390 4 BARREL WINDSOR ENGINE & NEVER LOOKED BACK.

One day at a time.. we're all in this together ❤️

I was 17 years old when they were playing this. I miss those days, I was young, I had hair, and full of energy. Paul Simon actually went to my high school years before I did. Forest Hills High School in Queens New York.

Thank You 🎵🎵🎵
Thanks for posting the lyrics. I needed the 3rd verse.
Thanks ♡♡♡
Thanks for the lyrics.
Thanks it's very nice to have all the correct words and read along.
Particularly if you want to sing! The verses aren't always easy to remember in the right order lol
You know you have talent when you don’t need special effects, pyrotechnics, and other crap. Just the good music pure and simple. Delicious!
Forget ego. They compliment each other perfectly.
unfortunately they never forgot their egos 😭
Paul simon one of d best lyricist ever and art g his vocals jus amazin
Amen and hallelujah
If only we knew when we were absolutely in our prime, they were most certainly there that night in Central Park
Part of the soundtrack to an era.
What a perfect harmony in vocals.
I agree
What sounds just as beautiful as their harmony is when they sing in unison. So perfectly matched.
"And all my words come back to me in shades of mediocrity like emptiness in harmony, I need someone to comfort me" - I don't know why but I adore this line so much
pentatroyephan because it is pure poetry? 😊 xx
pentatroyephan . verdade verdadeira
It's extremely relatable...hits the heart and soul
Because it is brilliant and brilliantly emotive.
Même si je ne comprends pas Les paroles, j'adore la musique.😊❤
Merci pour ce merveilleux moment de musique 🎧 qui as bercé mon enfance jeunesse jusqu'à présent merci Simon et Garfunkel
Talk about the perfect song for the times.
I grew up with Simon and Garfunkel. I sang the songs during my newspaper delivery era. I hope someone was inlfluenced (probably not by me singing but the songs are so strong) so the music will spread throughout time.........
They sang the anthems of a complete generation (or 2). We should cherish this music that was sang with such beautifull harmony and social relevance.
I am 65 and finally home. On the road for 50 years and now home to stay. Heaven...
The song remains one great masterpiece of all time. As for Simon and co I’ve loved both since mid 60s, however still one of my very best❤️ 👏
I honest to god cannot think how many times I have listened to this. It is unreal, they don't even need anything strange on the stage.. pyrotechnics.. nothing, as far as I am concerned this is the best song of S&G. It is amazing at the start... when they start they whole crowd just goes silent. It is amazing!
Absolut. Besser kann man es nicht schreiben ❤
these two are the only people that can sing about how theid rather be somewhere else and still everyone loves it..
I was so lucky to listen to them in Offenbach in 1982 - a concert I will never forget, it was really brilliant.
Way back in 1972 when I got my first pay packet I bought Simon and Garfunkel,s greatest hits after hearing my best buddy playing it.I,m am still listening to it..RIP my best buddy Paul,I miss our fun and laughs about old times.
I know the feeling, Paul. Seems in the final chapter of life all you have left is memories.
The best duo ever. Two of the melloist voices in history.
Les Paul and Mary Ford are pretty far up there...
Paul Simon : one of the greatest song writer.
A memory. Oh, but hearing one of the best live performances ever -
BOTW - was worth the price of admission. Oops, it was free!
Merci pour ces moments musicaux, depuis l'enfance, jeunesse et a présent, merci beaucoup Simon et Garfunkel,🎧
Man this is one concert I really wish I could have been their for
You are now though.
Quel merveilleux moment. Je les ai vus en direct à la télévision française en 81 : c'était magique même si je n'étais pas à New-York !
Paul wrote this on Widnes Station in England, and believe anyone would want to escape widnes station!😂
I too was young sailor nineteen sixty-eight 17 years old on my way to Vietnam singing this song
They sing so good with each other, ya think they would get along with each other.
SImply BRILLANT! What else can you say about this song and this duo? We are so blessed to be among those who knew of their music and talent
Paul Simon looks happy here,Art is relaxed, two geniuses.
Always love them. I'm 68. There is no home anymore.
I lost a dear friend a few days ago and here I am, listening to this song, yet again. All I can say is Simon and Garfunkel have seen me through the hardest times in my life. I am fifty and have been listening to them since I was five, on my dad's cartridge player. Thank you for the music and the loveliness, xx
Timeless!
This song makes me cry every every time I listen to it. The day either of them dies will be a sad day for humanity.
For 2 guys who had gone their separate ways and did great things as solo acts to come together and put on a performance of their old songs, to this level of perfection is testimony to their true talent.
one of the great all-time singer/songwriters.... Paul Simon
Many years ago I was aboard a ship on the boast of Vietnam so far away, this was played often and it made me want to be home so bad my heart ached....
Thank you so much for your service!
Thank you for your service. I can only imagine how that song hit you in that situation. It hits me now at my old age and sitting in my home listening to the whole concert over and over. I wish I could have been there. I have never had a concert do to me what this one has just watching it after the fact.
Welcome Home Brother.
I feel your pain I served early on during that era, I never went to V N but, when someone says thank you for “your service” it brings a lump in my throat when I think of all of those on “ the wall” never got any recognition.
They were at the top of their game
this song makes me feel homesick even when im at home
no band sounds as beautiful as S&G when singing in unison
Where are the odds that 2 boys age 15 from high school will meet and form band and both have these amazing voices and talent

Can't think of any song this duo played that doesn't make me feel good inside. This is one. Homeward bound, yes I wish I was homeward bound.
God I wish I had been alive to see them. Here I am in college listening to these amazing gentlemen, wishing I was homeward bound.
The world's best pair of singers and the song is very beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤
Simon and Garfunkel right there with the Everly Brothers.... Heaven on earth. And I'm the speck on the wall. It's been great to live in their century.
Just superb..no artificial lighting, hi-tech sounds, but only original music... Love it❤️❤️❤️❤️
There are no words to express... These two young men touched so many souls. How I wish we had music like this today.
The only version better is the one with George Harrison
Oh man... any concert in Central Park 👍🏼👍🏼
I stayed with my sister while her husband did a tour in Vietnam, and every night she put "Bridge" on the turntable for us to listen as we fell asleep. These songs are such a visceral part of my soul. Husband made it home but cancer took her 20 years ago. I cant hear anything from the album without tearing up.
