I understand argument about panarin trade to columbus, that's valid point. but in my opinion the worst decision blackhawks made past 10 years was not making smart moves when it comes about contract extensions. I understand when your team wins 3 stanley cups in 6 years you want to keep your star players as happy as possible but you should do it smartly. I mean of course star players did major job to win those cups, but what was great about that chicago, is that they always had good depth players in all 3 cup runs. but after 2015 chicago gave too many huge contracts to their star players and it backfired because they no longer have room for depth players.

All that is 2010 to April 2014...BUT the absolute worst move was firing Hextall, the guy that cleaned up all that junk and so much more.
Oh yeah but they still could have had amazing players and jumbo Joe can stop being memed about not winning a cup and they might even have more than just one
Kevin Paiement it would be a much different lineup in 2011 if they still had guys like wheeler or Thornton, there’d be no guarantee they’d still win the cup
They traded Wheeler for Chris Kelly and Rich Peverly who were pivotal depth pieces in a cup run. Id make that trade every day of the week, youre right about the other guys though
The Wild’s biggest slip up is actually trading for Hanzal at the deadline in 2017. A few games before the trade, Jonathan Toews lit up Minnesota and GM Chuck Fletcher made it a priority to target a shutdown center to go up against the Toews line. ( This was of course, if the two teams met in the 2nd round. At the time, they were 1 and 2 respectively in the conference.) The Wild were 1st and after the deadline pickup, they started to sink. Hanzal was horrible for the Wild, it messed with everything and then they obviously couldn’t fix it, losing in round 1. I think about that year a lot looool
You can never really recriminate trading a pick outside the top 10. You never know who you're going to get at that point and if you were smart enough to see Vasilevsky was going to be a legend, then you'd find a way to get into the top 15 and grab him. As would any othert GM who had the genius insight. But no, Tampa thought he was good value at 19 and got a steal. If they had some magical insight they'd have desperately traded that pick up a few spots to make sure they didn't miss him.
The Blackhawks is without question the sequence of backing Bowman over Quenneville, so that Bowman fires Quenneville (and later McDonagh too) and hires Colliton.
I would have to disagree with the Rangers worst decision. For that I would say drafting Dylan McIlrath was worse especially when you consider what they missed out on and Richards at the very least gave them 2 runs to the ECF or further while putting up extremely good numbers in the playoffs.
Right before Rangers I paused it and I'm like it has to be either McIlarth or letting Stralman walk. Richards was one of the better moves Rangers made it gave us another go to offensive player besides Gabriok. Only reason Richards was bought out was because we had the compliance buyout from the lockout.
Okposo’s contract was only bad because of injuries screwing him over, he’s reformed himself as a good 4th liner, the O’Reilly trade was millions of light years worse
For the penguins I would have gone with: reaves trade (1st and sundqist), the brassard trade, the jack johnson signing, or the kessel trade. All way worse IMO
Tuukka wouldn't have been that great in Toronto. He would have played in the Pha"Goof" and David Nonis era for the Leafs. They had no defense at all! Much different that playing with Chara and company...
I mean you could pick plenty of moves from Oilers, that team should have had a dynasty (or at least multiple sc finals appearances) going on right now with the amount of 1st overall picks they had in the last decade
lol Abdelkader didn’t even score a goal in 49 games this year. I’m from Detroit and the only reason he ever had decent numbers is because Babcock put him on a line with a couple people named Datsyuk and Zetterberg sometimes. And of course Chicago’s had to be trading Panarin for Saad huge joke lol
What makes the Sergachev / Drouin deal even worse was the fact that Drouin was not only starting to look like a bust, but also didn't even want to play in Tampa. It was looking like Tampa didn't have a leg to stand on but managed to pull this deal off. And I think the Pens giving up on Fleury, essentially losing him for nothing to the expansion draft, is worse than the Perron deal.
I’d argue the hall trade is worse for Edmonton, in my mind consciously trading away a guy who has already proving he’s gonna be star for an average defenseman is worse than just missing on a pick in what was a weak draft anyway, imagine having mcdavid with hall and still having Draisaitl and nuge on the second line
I tend to be forgiving of draft busts because reliably predicting an 18 year old's value can be hard. With that in mind, here are some mistakes the Oilers made that I think are bigger than drafting Yakupov (in no particular order): - re-hiring MacTavish - hiring Dallas Eakins - hiring Peter Chiarelli - trading Jeff Petry - trading Devin Dubnik - trading Taylor Hall - trading Jordan Eberle - trading the 2015 #16 pick - signing Milan Lucic
@@mathiscaty4408 Oilers scouts ranked Ryan Murray over Yakupov that draft, 9 of 11 scouts wanted Murray. As a Boston bruins fan, the 2915 draft makes me mad when thinking about it. Everyone I can’t stop thinking how set the team would of been if they had picked the right guys
You forget how AWFUL the Wild were before the Parise and Suter signings. Those deals vaulted the Wild back to relevance. There’s a reason they made the playoffs 6 years in a row after signing them. Wild absolutely made the right move to sign them.
Forsberg and Vrana with some young unnamed playmaking center would look good these days. The former looks to be a good finisher. The latter has elite speed to burn defenses with a good shot to boot.
0:45 18 games, 3 points. Took him 3 more seasons (165 games, 47 points) before he became the William Karlsson we all know now. Hindsight is 20/20, so I wouldn't call that their worst move of the past 10 years.
Its always funny how so many of these trades or drafts were considered "smart" or "a steal" at the time they happened (and for good reason in many cases), but it just proves that its hard to tell how things are going to pan out with players. A great player may struggle or get injured... there could be chemistry issues or people clashing with coaches which isn't anticipated.
As an Islanders fan, this isn’t a full representation of the story. Tavares made clear he wanted to resign and didn’t want to be traded before the deadline, so the organization decided not to move him. He then pushed off extensions and allowed himself to slip into free agency and signed with the Leafs. It’s not that the Islanders didn’t want to get nothing for him, but more that there wasn’t an expectation we’d lose him until July 1 creeped closer and closer and no new contract was signed. Can still be classified as a mistake I guess, but I disagree
For the Rangers, Richards wasn't bad for them while he was on the team and they used a compliance buyout on him, so that cost them $0. I'd say the worst move was between drafting McIlrath in 2010, signing Dan Boyle in the 2014 offseason instead of re-signing Stralman, or trading for Eric Staal at the 2016 deadline.
To be fair to the Oilers for that Yakupov drafting, many people saw him as a great player. If I remember correctly, he was more or less the consensus for 1st overall.
Yeah as a Caps fan, that Forsberg one still hurts to this day. If we had kept him, he would have been on a line with Oshie and Either Backstrom or Kuznetsov. Not so sure they could have kept Carlson, Oshie, Kuznetsov, and Orlov if they had kept Forsberg though.
Wouldnt Dylan Strome be a bigger mistake on Arizonas part than Perlini? Strome was picked 3rd, never played and then got shipped of to Chicago where he excelled.
the Minnesota Wild's worst decision for me is drafting Benoit Pouliot 4th overall in 2005 considering the Canadiens took Carey Price the very next pick.
Agree the Pens trade for Perron never worked out, but they were able to flip him for Hagelin who was pretty integral to them winning TWO Stanley Cups! I would have put the Brassard deal instead. Sure it didn't exactly hurt them in the long run, but it just seemed bizzare coming off a Cup win to start putting guys primarily on your team to fight when they never really had that mindset before, plus Brassard was never going to be happy on the third line, despite his third line level talent lol.
Peter Chirelli trades could possibly make this entire video. Eberle,Hall,Seguin signing #17 And Ericksson scoring on his new team was a huge negative foreshadow of his tenure in Vancouver.
I would say Chicago's dumbest move is giving an aging Brent Seabrook 6.875 a year with a no movement for it's entirety, which caused the lose-lose scenario where Panarin had to be traded. But, given that Panarin got over 11 mil per from the Rangers, Chicago wouldn't have been able to keep him more than a couple seasons anyway.
As a Canes fan, I’ve gotta ask, what about the Alexander Semin contract? We’ve still got 2.33 in dead cap through 2021 and he hasn’t been on our team for 5 years. At least we got assets for Skinner.
As a Bruins fan I dream of a team with Seguin Barzal Chabot and Boeser wouldn’t be able to keep them all but I wish that was a problem we had right now!
Good idea. Impressive how few teams didn’t really made any important mistake. Drafting Burmistrov isn’t that bad, and Havlat vs Heatley was a low risk low reward so. Nice vid.
Looking back at this from summer 2022: The Karlsson trade is without a doubt the Sharks' worst move. Shipachyov doesn't even crack the top 5 worst moves Vegas has made -- instead it's things like managing their cap so poorly that they traded Fleury and Paccioretty for nothing, trading away Nick Suzuki and other young stars, alienating everyone who's ever played for them....
As a Penguins fan, I think you must have missed the re-signing of Rob Scuderi to a multi-year deal after he was washed up and the more recent signing of Jack Johnson to a multimillion dollar contract that was completely ridiculous. Yeah even great organizations make big mistakes.
The Flyers trading away Bobrovsky is the most tragic trade in my opinion. The owner wanted to solve the goalie situation, so they signed Bryzgalov, the best goalie on the free agent market, which then led to the young Bobrovsky not having a chance to start and so the Flyers traded away a young stud who would go on two win 2 Vezinas for basically nothing, while Bryz ended up being a head case and huge failure as the franchise goalie the Flyers had hoped for. *Sigh* Here's to Carter Hart actually being the franchise goaltender us Flyers fans have been waiting for!!

They've made a LOT of dumb moves in the last 3 years. the Teravainen trade really pissed me off. This season, they traded away Robin Lehner for no fucking reason and now they have a huge goalie problem. Also traded away Gustaffson for no reason, he was one of their best defensemen this year.
After his role in helping them win the Cup, the Hawks absolutely had to sign him. Trading away Panarin is way worse.
Vorachek is once again a Jacket
Pittsburghs best move is definitely trading for Kessel, the cups wouldn't have happened without him.
Phil would appreciate you saying that. I'm sure you are correct.
San joe is definitely getting karlsson, that trade was incredible for Ottawa
I think that trade was pretty faire tbh
3:10 Nedeljkovic to Detroit... LGRW✌
Montreal's worst move was trading away Ryan McDonough for Scott Gomez.
Yeah, its true, but that was more than 10 years ago
Imagine having Sergachev & McDonnah in this year finale!? GEES!
@@judahnanas9772 It was nice. Not gonna lie. ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Little change :
Ottawa: Brassard trade ( Zibanejad and a second ) Chicago : Weise and Fleischman acquired for Danault and a 2nd ( Romanov ) Great vid !
As a habs fan, that Danault trade is a fucking steal
Xavier Dubé habs fan too
the last time I was this early, Canadian teams were still winning the Stanley Cup
which was probably also the last time you had sex.
Before watching...Signing Bryz followed by trading Bob then giving away JVR for Luke Schenn followed by signing Vinny Lecavalier for 5yrs at 4.5per then trading a 2nd and 3rd and a player to get Andrew Macdonald then compound this gem by giving him 30 mil for 6 yrs. All that is 2010 to April 2014...BUT the absolute worst move was firing Hextall, the guy that cleaned up all that junk and so much more.
I think for the bruins it could have been giving up on their young players too early like Seguin wheeler jumbo Joe and Kessel etc
It’s past 10 years tho, only the Seguin one would qualify
Oh yeah but they still could have had amazing players and jumbo Joe can stop being memed about not winning a cup and they might even have more than just one
Kevin Paiement it would be a much different lineup in 2011 if they still had guys like wheeler or Thornton, there’d be no guarantee they’d still win the cup
@@centralhockey12 yeah your right because then cap space would become a very big issue
Red wings: trading for Kyle Quincey and giving Tampa our 19th pick. They used it to draft Andrei vasilevskiy. This one hurts.
The fact that Cam Fowler was taken two picks later that draft makes it so much worse.
Right before Rangers I paused it and I'm like it has to be either McIlarth or letting Stralman walk. Richards was one of the better moves Rangers made it gave us another go to offensive player besides Gabriok. Only reason Richards was bought out was because we had the compliance buyout from the lockout.
@@bigsmooth554 and try again Tarasenko was taken 6 picks later 😭😭😭😭
I think vegas blunder was trading Perron away, he’s such a solid player for St. Louis. He always gives us trouble when we play them
There could be a video many times longer than this just about the oilers
Okposo’s contract was only bad because of injuries screwing him over, he’s reformed himself as a good 4th liner, the O’Reilly trade was millions of light years worse
a good fourth liner..... making 6mil a year
Honestly, I think that trading Eberle was worse than drafting Nail
In edmonton Ebs averaged 27g 35a 62pts. He doesn't get the respect he deserved
For the penguins I would have gone with: reaves trade (1st and sundqist), the brassard trade, the jack johnson signing, or the kessel trade. All way worse IMO
Only bad one there is the Johnson signing because brassard was shit for us and we were forced to trade kessel.
CodForLife04 brassard trade was one of the worst decision from the senators , even worst then duchene . They lost zibanejad
The Devil's I would have said the Bo Horvat for Schneider trade
And everyone thought the Canucks got duped. I met Horvat briefly and said I thought it was a good trade in like 2016 or something.
Owen Alderson Schneider was a top 5 goalie until sometime in 17/18 season
@@quinlanb7193 He was a top 5 on a terrible team. That makes a difference!
Like Carey Price... One of the best, on a shit team.
And now?
LOL
schneider was useful for some time in NJ. then suddenly all his ability left him.
Year later, voracek with the blue jackets hahaha
There's also the gomez for McDonaugh trade by MTL that sucked preety badly
10:55 EK65 trade
For Toronto trading Tuukka Rask also pretty brutal
That happened back in 2005...
Tuukka wouldn't have been that great in Toronto. He would have played in the Pha"Goof" and David Nonis era for the Leafs. They had no defense at all! Much different that playing with Chara and company...
this video could be made on the oilers alone
Rangers Honorable Mention: Dylan McIrath at #10 overall
And signing Bobby Holik @ 9M$ per year for 5 years!!! XD
As an Avs fan that Bleackley draft still hurts to this day lol especially watching what Pasta turned into.
Before I see the Panthers one, Smith and Marchessault
Nope
Nah.
THERE could be a list of top best players in the 2020 draft class
Okay how is drafting Yakupov worse than trading future Hart trophy winner for Adam Larsson?
I mean you could pick plenty of moves from Oilers, that team should have had a dynasty (or at least multiple sc finals appearances) going on right now with the amount of 1st overall picks they had in the last decade
hey, the isles got barzal and beauvillier out of the reinhart trade. at least larsson can play.
lol Abdelkader didn’t even score a goal in 49 games this year. I’m from Detroit and the only reason he ever had decent numbers is because Babcock put him on a line with a couple people named Datsyuk and Zetterberg sometimes. And of course Chicago’s had to be trading Panarin for Saad huge joke lol
Habs and Mcdona
That’s what I was thinking was it 10 Years ago or less
Great video but do you think you can do the best moves for all 31 teams
Vegas: Trading Fleury for literally fuck all
San Jose also had to give up Pavelski when signing Karlsson because of the cap
I dont think that the yakupov was a Mistake it’s hard to see how good an 18 year old is going to be in 5-10 years
Dr. Ch31 also, any other teams would have picked him if they got first pick
Cl Plays apart from the leafs cause Brian Burke hated the guys draft interview
Kaiden Dove true
Well, that doesn’t change the fact that it was a mistake
I tend to be forgiving of draft busts because reliably predicting an 18 year old's value can be hard. With that in mind, here are some mistakes the Oilers made that I think are bigger than drafting Yakupov (in no particular order):
- re-hiring MacTavish
- hiring Dallas Eakins
- hiring Peter Chiarelli
- trading Jeff Petry
- trading Devin Dubnik
- trading Taylor Hall
- trading Jordan Eberle
- trading the 2015 #16 pick
- signing Milan Lucic
I know Edmonton’s before watching the video. -Devils Fan
I guess I was wrong
They are so bad! Honnestly probably 25 of the team would have Picked Yakupov so it is not that much of a bad move
@@mathiscaty4408 Oilers scouts ranked Ryan Murray over Yakupov that draft, 9 of 11 scouts wanted Murray. Oilers brass didn't listen to the people who they employ to advise them on the who, instead they must of been watching TSN. Heard rumors here in Edmonton that Lowe vetoed the Murray pick. When asked after the draft about not picking Murray, he pointed at his cup ring and told the reporter "I have six of these, I know what I'm doing."
inneedofmedication would have been a better pick but still... Murray could have Turned out great. Still that the only player who is not a bust in the top 5 is Reilly, so I think that the blame should not be completly on The Oilers. Its like that Hishier-Patrick draft. They both seem like they are going to bust, both neither Heiskanen or Makar was an option at the Time.
@@inneedofmedication "When asked after the draft about not picking Murray, he pointed at his cup ring and told the reporter "I have six of these, I know what I'm doing."
*Ron Howard narrates* He didn't
Yakupov was the result of Daryl Katz's son having a love affair with him. Everyone else wanted Murray.
As a Boston bruins fan, the 2915 draft makes me mad when thinking about it. Everyone I can’t stop thinking how set the team would of been if they had picked the right guys
What fucking year are you living in?
😂
Minnesota, Parise and Suter contracts
Been downhill ever since. They should have signed one of them, then added smaller pieces that are changeable if they do not play well.
Hahahahaha the Jeff skinner trade turned out really well for the canes.
As a Kings fan I have to say in recent worst Kings decisions it has to be signing Ilya Kolchak. It was a complete disaster.
Totally disagree with your Tavares take. He assured the isles he'd resign but left them high and dry.
I would do the Parise/Suter contracts for Minnesota
To be fair to the Oilers for that Yakupov drafting, many people saw him as a great player. If I remember correctly, he was more or less the consensus for 1st overall.
Vegas never gave him a chance, that should be the worst move Vegas choice. They lied too him
Yeah as a Caps fan, that Forsberg one still hurts to this day. If we had kept him, he would have been on a line with Oshie and Either Backstrom or Kuznetsov. Not so sure they could have kept Carlson, Oshie, Kuznetsov, and Orlov if they had kept Forsberg though.
Just think of how good the Hawks would be if they kept Panarin. Cap hell would have happened but they could’ve kept contending.
What’s crazy looking back on the skinner trade, is now it looks like the canes won.
Eberle,Hall,Seguin signing #17
And Ericksson scoring on his new team was a huge negative foreshadow of his tenure in Vancouver.
Leafs drafting Tyler Biggs was a huge fuck up too. The guy can't even hack it in the coast.
gudbranson is having an elite defensive season and decent offense with the flames
As a Canes fan, I’ve gotta ask, what about the Alexander Semin contract? We’ve still got 2.33 in dead cap through 2021 and he hasn’t been on our team for 5 years. At least we got assets for Skinner.
As a Bruins fan I dream of a team with Seguin Barzal Chabot and Boeser wouldn’t be able to keep them all but I wish that was a problem we had right now!
you guys are already good enough
You should do the top 10 or 15 best upcoming ufa’s this offseason
Ugh I almost forgot about us drafting Alex Burmistrov 🥴
