jean marc Giroux if Huberdeau and especially Barkov were half as good as everyone on this channel thinks they are then they would’ve made the playoffs more than once in the last decade. Jokinen’s best teammate most seasons was either Jozef Stumpel or 21 year old Nathan Horton and he made the playoffs once for the panthers too. Current team just puts up empty numbers against crappy teams and always loses close to top teams in the league because their no. 1 line doesn’t match up talent wise with most no. 1 lines in the league.
Lidstrom is my favorite athlete of all time, but it's really tough to argue with Howe. 6 MVPs, led the league in scoring on 6 occasions, an ambidextrous shot , a huge physical presence on the ice, and one of the few players that can challenge Lidstrom in longevity (he not only played 25 seasons with the Wings alone, but he was an All-Star for 22 of them, and his latest MVP came 17 years into his career). Also, had the Conn Smythe existed during his Cup wins, he likely wins '54 and '55 (and he was injured in the '50 semifinals, so it's not his fault for failing to shine in that Cup win).
I'm from philly and I appreciate this. Thank you. We need more nhl content. The other 3 major sports have alot of content but not enough of my favorite nhl.
He's still the best player they've ever had, it doesn't have to be a super long time either. It was long enough for him to demonstrate that he was absolutely that guy
The Canucks is a hard team, I think if we're talking who the best player to ever play for the team is, in my opinion it has to be Pavel Bure. He was so exciting to watch.
Its to bad we never got to see what Nasaland could have accomplished. He we was never the same after Stevd More completely destroyed him when he had absolutely no way of dedending hinself. At least Mire got what he deserved in ghe end. Bertuzzi's hit was no wore and he was given a chancd to defend himself but ge was to much of a coward.
Interesting perspective. I like that you share thoughts as to why you did NOT choose someone. There will always be disagreements within such a list, but for the most part, I appreciate your rationale for each choice, and was occasionally even pleasantly surprised that you chose the player I was thinking of ... for instance, Dave Keon for my team,The Toronto Maple Leafs!
Maurice the Rocket Richard is the biggest legend in the Province of Quebec, nevermind the stats, it goes beyond hockey, every French-Canadian knows that, respect to Mr Jean with a well secured second place, what a Man he was
You got it right with Orr. Gordie Howe was Mr. Hockey. Wayne Gretzky was the Great One. But Orr was the greatest I ever watched and I am old enough to have seen Gordie playing for the Wings. Orr invented the attacking defense man. Love the guy.
That's a good one too. Many also believe that Marcus Naslund is the greatest Canuck since he's the one who pulled the Canucks out of the 90s slump (after 1994) and brought them to the level they are today.
Agreed. Jean Beliveau is certainly one of the greatest players of all time, but Maurice Richard is the cornerstone of the Montréal Canadiens franchise, he is more than just a great player, he is a legend. And think that Guy Lafleur is also another great player. Lafleur, Beliveau and Richard are to hockey what Mantle, DiMaggio and Ruth are to baseball.
The rocket scored more goals in a HABS jersey than Beliveau and Lafleur. All three were great and are always ranked as the three greatest by Montreal media. The Rocket has the mystical effect and rises to the top.
Crazy to think Ray Bourque, Patrick Roy, Steve Yzerman, Al Macinnis, Ron Francis, Nick Lidstrom, Mark Messier, Jagr, Lindros and others all didnt make the list do to having spent some time in other orgs or in the case of Lidstrom and Yzerman who spent entire careers in 1 org had a possibly best player ever ahead of them. Great work keep it up
I'd put Yzerman and/or Lidstrom ahead of Howe. Howe's impressive stats come from the sheer number of games he played more than his production relative to his contemporaries.
Duck man3D5 OK then why isn’t Vancouver retiring his number how come the only team to retire his number is Florida how come Roberto Luongo is the first player to ever be retired by the panthers organization just saying

Penguins "some people may say this should be Crosby" !??!?? If you picked Jagr, then some people may have had a point with Crosby, but both are not even close to Lemieux.
i agree that crosby isn't close but saying jagr isn't close is a stretch. but since its best player for each franchise it would go to lemieux, jagr was a goat though.
@@marlinbradley3815 Glad to see Jagr is remembered at his fair value. Late 90s early 2000 he was dominant when scoring was at an alltime low. Finished 2nd alltime in points yet plyed 4 years in Russia when still young...It's just that Mario is somewhere else imo. We all know what Mario did, but look at his points per game the year he came back (2000-2001). Hes alone up there. Compare his ppg 95-96 with Jagr that same year (Jagr had 149 points!!). And I just remember him being so dominant.
Nothing but respect for Shane Doan. And many others on this list. Despite a couple of runs later in his career It takes a special kind of person to want to stick around a team like Arizona.
Habs GOAT is Maurice Richard, by a mile. Beliveau was a legend, but Rocket Richard will always be remembered as the greatest ever, for reasons that also goes beyond hockey.
Great job on the list! I agreed with all but one of the picks. My only change would be to Florida and make it Luongo. Huberdeau still a great pick I just couldn't put him ahead of Luongo
16:35 "Technically the same franchise" Fuck it is. That Jets franchise is the Coyotes now. This Jets franchise is the Thrashers. Goes on a whole explanation on how he won't be including players time from franchises that aren't around anymore and then somehow uses a "retro" Jets pick who would be tied to the Coyotes. Man what a huge blunder.
Why not add the time with the same Franchise? Sakic played for the same Franchise his whole career, just because the Nordiques moved doesn't make it a different Franchise... Same with both Winnipeg teams, Arizona moved from Winnipeg but it's still the same Franchise history... Same with Atlanta moving to Winnipeg... Hartford to Carolina Minnesota to Dallas... It's odd to just erase what they did for the whole franchise just because they moved locations... No offense meant, it's just my opinion
My first thought for the Canucks was also Bure, despite Sedin having significantly more points for the franchise. Since Sedin played 17 seasons with the 'nucks, and Bure only 7, they averaged 63 and 68 points per season respectively, giving the nod to Bure.
@@The_R_Vid yeah, if you're looking at overall contribution to the team I think you have to go with Daniel (Goals > points), but Pavel was very special and the Canucks should never have let them go. No idea why they thought they needed a rebuild in 1994, Pavel was young, Linden was young, Lumme was 27. Even McLean was only 28. Adams was 30 Courtnall was 31. They had a 19 year old Peca, 23 year old Hedican, and picked up Aucoin the next year. Then they had the strike year the year after that. :(
Totally agreed with you on all of these. Before I watched I did a quick run through predicting each and as a Sabres fan, I thought you might pick Perreault, but I did pick Hasek. Anyway I believe I ended up only missing two teams answers…the Kings (I picked Luc Robitaille but Dionne is a good answer) and Florida (I picked Olli Jokinen). That said, people griping about certain guys (guy arguing for Richard is dumb), and if anything you’d only be able to argue for LaFleur besides Beliveau. Anyway, well done.
These are very good picks but there are a couple I disagree with but I will say that the players you chose would be in 2nd place on my list. I would have Maurice "Rocket" Richard for Montreal over Jean Beliveau and Bobby Hull over Stan Mikita for Chicago. I consider Hull to be one of the top 5 NHL players overall yet he never seems to enter the "super elite status" conversation in the same way that Gretzky, Orr, and Howe always do. He dominated the NHL during the 1960s, winning the Art Ross Trophy three times and the Hart Trophy twice and was the first player to score more than 50 goals, doing it three times, plus he also had a season with 77 goals in the WHA. Stan Mikita did not become a star player until he turned his game around from being a dirty player and a pest into a clean, respected Lady Byng player. Hull was great for most of his career. Also, as a Leafs fan, I am happy that you picked Dave Keon as #1. Did you know that in 2017, to honor the Leafs' 100th anniversary, Keon was chosen as the #1 player in the Top 100 Leafs players of all time? So that was a good pick.
HOW DID YOU COME TO HUBERDEAU FOR FLA?! Did you just all of a sudden forget about Roberto Luongo? Dude carried florida to the cup final and had a steller career there. The only one i completely disagree with.
Yeah ... He COULD have been good ... too bad he was such a floating slacker! Can you imagine if M.L. had played with the heart and effort of Gretzky?!?!? He could have been the greatest all-time ... But W.G. takes that prize, due to how he cared about every damn shift he played (with honourable mention to #4!)
@@davideaston6944 Mario was a slacker? That's ignorantly disrespectful. There's a reason why he's considered one of the best and nobody ever said he was a slacker other than you.
@@jonathanmartin8113 Obviously your remark is, on the contrary, pretty darn "ignorant", as: I guarantee that you've not heard the opinions of Mario from "everyone" (*nobody ever said he was a slacker other than you); so that's just a silly remark. Also, as just explained, he WAS NOT "the best"; Gretzky and Orr outshone 66 - now we can start to argue about who follows them in the Pantheon (and Mario would be in the discussion, no doubt). Hey, try reading my remarks, and instead of instantly reacting defensively over them, try thinking about them, and consider what I actually said. And I'll add this, comparing your suggestion: NO ONE EVER said that Mario Lemieux "out-worked" Wayne Gretzky over their careers. EVER. AGAIN: IF Mario had have worked EVERY SHIFT to the effort that 99 did, he well could have been "the best ever"; but effort plays into the equation, no matter what your natural skills are. I hope you can understand that.
@@davideaston6944 wow dude... You do know that before Mario retired the first time (after major back problems and cancer), his ppg was higher than Gretzky, right? He came back a couple of years later to help his newly acquired team to succeed and played great for a guy that took a couple of years off. Then you're gonna say he's a slacker? Then get all defensive when someone calls out your bullshit? Hahaha you're funny guy! Also, I never said that Mario worked harder on the ice. I was disagreeing with you calling him a slacker. And I can assure you that there are players that have "out worked" Gretzky during their respective careers. Gordie Howe comes to mind and well, the actual greatest player, Maurice Richard. I highly doubt that Gretzky would have soldiered on like Maurice did during the 40s and 50s. I'm not discrediting Gretzky whatsoever, I'm just giving credit where it deserves to be given. Without Maurice's hard work, strong values and opinions, determination and perseverance, we wouldn't have had a Lemieux, a Gretzky, a Béliveau, a Crosby, an Orr and even to an extent, a Howe. Richard is the OG superstar of the NHL and he paved the way for making the safety of the players a priority so that players like Gretzky would be able to perform like he did.
Lol, Gretzky played a game where no one could touch him and he had free reign to do whatever he wanted. Mario couldn’t tie his skates, was getting back adjustments between periods and had people hanging all over him. Not to mention a come back from cancer, look up the night he returned after his treatment that day.
For Carolina I'd have picked Ron Francis. He was the big name player for the Hurricanes and an awesome role model for the younger players. He also was captain of the Whalers before they moved to Carolina
I agree with you. Hasek is the GOAT of goalies and to an outsider it would appear to be the greatest Sabre. To fans who grew up with the Sabres we know how much the original Sabre meant to the franchise.
Well chosen for most teams! I was just a bit surprised by Béliveau instead of Maurice Richard. But Béliveau would #2 - #3 of the Habs ranking so... if your pick is Richard, Lafleur or Béliveau, you pass the test!
Rob Brindamour would have been my pick, 4 extra years over francis in Carolina and a great 2 way winger, that did over 80 points in a year, not that francis is a bad choice either :P
The "no longer current franchises" you mentioned as examples are ALL still current franchises, they just moved. Quebec Nordiques -> Colorado Avalanche Hartford Whalers -> Carolina Hurricanes Winnipeg Jets (original) -> Arizona Coyotes Atlanta Thrashers -> Winnipeg Jets (current incarnation) Colorado Rockies -> New Jersey Devils Atlanta Flames -> Calgary Flames Minnesota North Stars -> Dallas Stars I think that covers all the current teams' moves and re-brands. EDIT: With all that being said, I'd say the picks were all solid picks. For the Canucks I'd personally pick Pavel Bure. The Sedins are amazing, but for pure talent and production when he was with the Canucks, The Russian Rocket was a legit game breaker who did unbelievable things with the puck, and was was the best puck handler for the speeds he'd be typically going at. Back to Back 60 goal seasons to follow up a Rookie of the Year award. He only fell off the 60 goal mark the next season because it was strike shorted and he only had half games to work with and after that suffered a career altering knee injury to a Brian Marchment knee lock (ala Ulf Samuelsson on Cam Neely). If you were to take into account the time when the Avalanche were still in Quebec, then I'd also consider Peter Statsney a strong candidate for their franchise GOAT, though Joe Sakic started his career there when they were at their worst and the next best player 1 year was Michelle Goulet with less then 40 points to Joe's over 100. I'd have personally held the 2 iterations of the Winnipeg Jets as separate franchises though as they actually are. Howerchuck was part of the Jets/Coyotes franchise and had nothing to do with the franchise you attributed him to, though he is a great pick for a GOAT or honorable mention for that franchise, though I'd probably go with Doan overall too. The 2nd coming of the Jets (Thrashers/Jets franchise), though they may hold the same name, is a completely different organization. IMO Howerchuk was a very bad pick since he never played for that organization. How can he be a GOAT for a team he played 0 seconds for? That pick should have been from someone who actually played for them.
It's definitely Daniel Alfredsson for the Ottawa Senators. If Erik Karlsson didn't get traded to the Sharks, he'd probably pass Alfie and would be the greatest player in franchise history.
Imtotallydiggingthis yes I’m pretty sure that’s why. He was at the end of his career, so I have a difficult time seeing how the contract had much to do with it.
Imtotallydiggingthis he left because Eugene Melnyk the owner ripped him off financially .. clearly took advantage of his good nature where he gave the sens an incredible team discount . Insulted him by trying to do the same again . So Alfredsson left .. can’t blame him .. now we see Melnyk and how hated he his for his own selfish exploits , quite clear Akfredsson was fed up with him , just too nice to outright say it . Billionaires are generally pieces of shit . The sens owner embodies that
Daniel and Henrik Sedin go together. It’s not cheating, it’s part of the legacy of the Sedins; excellent individual players, but also the ultimate team players who don’t have a selfish bone in their body. That is why they are loved in Vancouver - great players, but also great human beings.
Loved the video. Although, 16:30 "It's the same team name, technically the same team franchise" I'd really like to know, what you actually wrote on the script. Maybe it made more sense on paper.
First of all, Bobby Orr is the greatest hockey player of all time, no debate. Wayne Gretzky the greatest playmaker of all time, and Mario Lemieux the greatest goal scorer of all time. If Super Mario had played 1,487 games like WG, he would likely scored around 1,000 goals. Late 80's-90's Eastern Conference also was not as wide-open as the West. ML was just a better pure goal scorer than WG, being 6'-4" helped a lot. As for goalies, for a big game you could gather the top 5 or 6 and roll a die.
Debate time. I say Lemieux is better then Gretzky because Lemieux had to quit and come back, had cancer and still played out of his mind, and he was on a bad team and still managed to get 100 point seasons. Also he was targeted and whacked and hacked at while Gretzky was protected.
For Carolina I would’ve said rob brind’amour Edit: and for Edmonton it should have been nail yakupov he is so good he went first overall and doesn’t even play in the nhl lol Edit 2: and for Montreal I would have picked Maurice “ the rocket” Richard Edit 3: I would have picked Mats sundin for Toronto
Little known fact about Stan Makita. Prior to winning the Lady Byng Makita was known to get 100 penalty minutes a season regularly. He did a complete 180 and became a Hall of Famer.
Iginla is definitely one of the Flames greatest. But as a Calgarian, Lanny McDonald is definitely the Flames GOAT. He still holds the franchise single season goals record to this day. And he was the first time the Flames ever retired a number.

Years ago, on HNIC, Bossy hit the crossbar from the top of the circle 3 times in a row on request from interviewer.
That’s probably the best record in all of sports
there is no way Daniel Alfredsson is considered an "unpopular" pick. People who live in that city that aren't fans of the team respect that guy. 100%
I have hated the Sens for my whole life as a Sabres fan and I used to DREAD playing Alfredsson. Idk how he wouldn’t be the ONLY answer.
All I'm saying is you should have given Maurice "Rocket" Richard a mention for The Habs! He sure as heck deserves it :)
Add Guy Lafleur to that list, 5 cups post expansion and 1200+ points with montreal.
@@mqh8879 It should be a 3 way tie. All extremely good and influential.
That Florida Panthers pick...beyond ludicrous. Ever heard of Olli Jokinen?
My initial reaction was The Beezer.
Olli was good but Huberdeau is already passed him in only 8 seasons not to mention Barkov is right behind him with only 5 seasons.
@@taxi615 Jokinen only played 7 seasons in FLA, so Olli Jokinen > Huberdeau
C Owens I’m shocked he didn’t pick Luongo. Didn’t the team say they plan on retiring his #1 in Florida?
jean marc Giroux if Huberdeau and especially Barkov were half as good as everyone on this channel thinks they are then they would’ve made the playoffs more than once in the last decade.
Did you even consider Peter Forsberg?
Forsberg was arguably more talented than sakic. But if give it to sakic due to durability and consistently
He was the candle burned at both ends in terms of his injuries.
I disagree because sakic had a bigger impact on the avs and Quebec but that is just my opinion
Patrick Roy?
Forsberg and sakic were both super good players
I'd love to see you mention Lidström for the Redwings, since a team is not only built on offensive players. But you're probably right in your choices.
It's a debatable argument between Howe, Lidstrom and Yzerman.
Lidstrom and Stevie Y are both up there for second, but Howe was Howe, no one else on that team was close.
I would argue that when Pavel Bure played for the Canucks he was the best player they ever had, but he didn't play for them for long enough.
He's still the best player they've ever had, it doesn't have to be a super long time either. It was long enough for him to demonstrate that he was absolutely that guy
such a great video!! your channel is so underrated man 👏🏻👏🏻🤩
The Canucks is a hard team, I think if we're talking who the best player to ever play for the team is, in my opinion it has to be Pavel Bure.
Teemu didn’t play with Anaheim that whole time. He played two and a half seasons with Colorado and San Jose..

You got it right with Orr. Gordie Howe was Mr. Hockey. Wayne Gretzky was the Great One. But Orr was the greatest I ever watched and I am old enough to have seen Gordie playing for the Wings. Orr invented the attacking defense man. Love the guy.
For me, Pavel Bure is the best Canuck ever... only one I disagrees with tbh.
That's a good one too. Many also believe that Marcus Naslund is the greatest Canuck since he's the one who pulled the Canucks out of the 90s slump (after 1994) and brought them to the level they are today.

I would have vote for Maurice Richard for Montreal!
I agree. Kind of the face of the classic Canadian era.
This may have been my only objection, the hockey sweater all the poor misguided kids wanted a #9 Richard sweater...
I still think beliveau was better Richard was good in his time more of a big name imo but not to take anything away from him he was still great
The rocket scored more goals in a HABS jersey than Beliveau and Lafleur. All three were great and are always ranked as the three greatest by Montreal media. The Rocket has the mystical effect and rises to the top.
I think Kane has a real argument over Mikita fwiw but he's not quite there and it seems his tenure is done in Chicago
Great work keep it up
Lidstrom and Stevie Y were great, but they were never Mister Hockey.
I'd put Yzerman and/or Lidstrom ahead of Howe. Howe's impressive stats come from the sheer number of games he played more than his production relative to his contemporaries.

@@marlinbradley3815 Glad to see Jagr is remembered at his fair value. Late 90s early 2000 he was dominant when scoring was at an alltime low. We all know what Mario did, but look at his points per game the year he came back (2000-2001). Hes alone up there. Compare his ppg 95-96 with Jagr that same year (Jagr had 149 points!!). Disagree with that. Pavel Bure was the best to ever play for the Canucks.
My first thought for the Canucks was also Bure, despite Sedin having significantly more points for the franchise. Since Sedin played 17 seasons with the 'nucks, and Bure only 7, they averaged 63 and 68 points per season respectively, giving the nod to Bure.

My back up for the Leafs would've been Darly Sittler. HE SCORED 10 POINTS IN ONE NIGHT. He Didn't win Any Stanley Cup, Only BECAUSE OF HAROLD BALLAR.

And I'll add this, comparing your suggestion:
NO ONE EVER said that Mario Lemieux "out-worked" Wayne Gretzky over their careers.

Buffalo is in fact still Gilbert Perreault. After all these years. Hasek is close but his career is split up.
I'd put Phil Housley in the talk too.
Perreault was a wonderful player.

Hasek anyday. Maybe the best goalie of all time, while Perreault was merely a medium excellent scorer.

The "no longer current franchises" you mentioned as examples are ALL still current franchises, they just moved.

Hartford Whalers -> Carolina Hurricanes
Winnipeg Jets (original) -> Arizona Coyotes
Atlanta Thrashers -> Winnipeg Jets (current incarnation)
Colorado Rockies

Atlanta Flames -> Calgary Flames
Minnesota North Stars -> Dallas Stars
I think that covers all the current teams' moves and re-brands.
Good job, enjoyed your vid
Love the Dave Keon pick. Best Leaf Ever!
But the Jets were the thrashers right? And the old Jets are Arizona so that doesn't make sense to combine both Jets teams
It's definitely Daniel Alfredsson for the Ottawa Senators. If Erik Karlsson didn't get traded to the Sharks, he'd probably pass Alfie and would be the greatest player in franchise history.
I remember when Florida played Montreal in my small town in New Brunswick for kraft hockey ville

Imtotallydiggingthis he left because Eugene Melnyk the owner ripped him off financially .. clearly took advantage of his good nature where he gave the sens an incredible team discount . As for goalies, for a big game you could gather the top 5 or 6 and roll a die.
ovechkin is the greatest goal scorer of all time
Debate time.
I say Lemieux is better then Gretzky because Lemieux had to quit and come back, had cancer and still played out of his mind, and he was on a bad team and still managed to get 100 point seasons. Also he was targeted and whacked and hacked at while Gretzky was protected.
No one cares who was better because both stink. Kane is the GOAT, ahead of both of them combined.
