      He's not a heretic. Really. I examined his words expecting to find a Nestorian. Since this channel released its videos, Mar Mari has been very, very clear - explicit - that he believes Jesus is one person with two natures. That he is God in all his fullness incarnate. His take on Nestorius is that Nestorius was misunderstood and not actually a Nestorian (as we would use the term). I'm skeptical of that claim but it's certainly not itself heretical.
      Here's a transcript from ua-cam.com/video/Mc_UPBqOioo/v-deo.html:
      "The church I belong to believes that Christ is one unique person forever. Divinity and Humanity United in one person my church believes that Christ is one and one person only....Enough, enough! Christ is one divine unique person forever. In Christ, this one unique person, Divinity and Humanity were united."
      Furthermore, in other videos, he has been expounding the eternal preexistence of Jesus in perfectly orthodox terms, identifying him as the eternal Logos who was with God and was God.
      This channel should apologise - knowingly or unknowingly, they have borne false witness against a brother in Christ.

    Thank you so much, Father! These recent videos exposing certain heresies have been very enlightening. You did a wonderful job in this video to succinctly explain all the heresies that us Orthodox should be well aware of in order to correctly defend our faith.
    You are right. We can't be soft in calling out heresy. The Church Fathers weren't soft on this matter when they anathematized heretics in the Ecumenical Councils centuries ago, and we should be adhering to this same mindset to this present day.

      I think that might be a waste of his valuable time-but that’s just one idiots opinion. It would be surprising to learn that any Orthodox Christian watches that for edification though. To create a fictitious dialogue-putting unheard of expressions into His mouth, so to speak-that also depends on the interpretation of the actor (facial expressions, emotive license etc.) seems to me very impious and potentially misleading.
      It may be entertaining for Papists (like the actor who plays Jesus) and emotionally ‘uplifting’ for Protestants like their often terrible pop music, but I personally see no value there for an Orthodox Christian.

    • @PeterMolenaar-s5x
      @PeterMolenaar-s5x 10 місяців тому +1

      @Desertfox21 First of all, we do believe in sola scriptura, but as the only infallible authority of God. Scripture clear states that the church has authority, as do creeds and confessions, but they can be fallible, which is why we need Scripture to guide us. That being said the church is an authority that roots itself in scripture and traditions that follow it. One of the pillars of the Dutch Reformed church is church discipline. The church needs to maintain order as God is a God of order, and so the church uses the bible, and well as creeds and confessions that are gleaned from scripture, to us accountable. So when then church met in Ephesus to damn Nestorianism, this council still has authority, as it is rooted in scripture.

    • @PeterMolenaar-s5x
      @PeterMolenaar-s5x 10 місяців тому

      @Desertfox21 The bible is the Torah or old testament, that Christ preached from, so Christ gave the Old testament authority. The New Testament is the gospels and teaching of the Apostles, who were with Christ and preserved His teachings. So really Christ, through his Holy Spirit gave the bible its authority. As for interpretation, we are all called to read the scriptures, as we see in Acts 17, the Jews of Berea studied the scriptures upon hearing of our Savior, to see if what was said was true. This was noted as a good and proper thing, so we should all read the bible and be teachable by other, and make that what is being taught is compatible with Gods word.

    But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
    Why all that you said matter? Can't you be holy as catholic or orthodox or whatever? You can't claim an understading of divine nature. And if even you understood through Holy Spirit, you still can't proove divine to unholy poeople. All that talk is of no use to regular Joe. What an understanding of nature of Christ can do for your salvation? All that theology talk just raptured the church into thousand denominations today. Any grifter now can claim an understanding of God in his own way. It is supposed to be simple, now churches trying to pull a blanket(congregation) from other denominations trying to prove their theology is more "right".

    • @living_orthodox
      @living_orthodox  10 місяців тому +2

      You realize it was a simplistic deception the devil used against Eve right? Just because something is a hard saying, or difficult doesn’t mean you don’t challenge yourself to understand it. In fact that is the passion, the sin of sloth that keeps someone in place from learning.
      Theology helps us to dive deeper into the scriptures and understand it. No one is claiming to fully comprehend divine nature. Your confusion is yet again, with what something is vs who someone is. You may be a human being. But you’re not humanity itself. Jesus is a divine person, He isn’t simply divine nature itself. Such thinking would lead to modalism which would imply the whole Trinity died on the cross. That’s incorrect as then, you would be introducing a change to the way God is and subjecting the whole nature of divinity to a change that would render it no longer divine.
      That’s why the distinction between person and nature matters. Christ is God. He became man but remained divine. He experienced death in His humanity but because He is God and the source of life, death couldn’t contain Him.
      No one fixed anything by giving up and saying “this is too hard”. This is what the 3000 who left Christ said in John 6:56-67 when Jesus spoke of how they must eat His flesh and drink His blood. Theology is important. It isn’t what fractured the Church. It’s pride and refusing to see reason and truth which fractured it. If one believes incorrectly about God, then one runs the risk of believing in a counterfeit and being deceived by the anti christ. If you want to be a Christian, you can’t remain a “regular Joe”. That’s an excuse to never challenge yourself beyond your comfort zone. What then? Trying to overcome alcoholism or porn is too hard? What of the fact when someone has questions? You may not have to have all the answers, but you have to know someone who does know them. What will you say? “That’s just how it is, accept it man”? Nonsense. It’s over simplification that has led the Protestants down to many schisms. 30,000 plus denominations! All claiming to interpret the Bible and yet with noting to back them up. This is why atheism and immortality rules the west right now.

    He is a hypocrites!
    It is crucial to emphasize that the Oriental Orthodox tradition upholds the belief in the unity of Christ's nature, contrary to the Eastern Orthodox emphasis on separate natures. As Mor Philoxenos taught, when Jesus walked on water, it was the divine nature and a human nature. Jesus was both God and man simultaneously, as no human ability alone enables walking on water. Therefore, it is impossible to divide Jesus into separate natures as the Nestorians and Eastern Orthodox do. It is thus hypocritical to warn against the Nestorian bishop while sharing similar thoughts. Orthodox is not equal to orthodox, and it is crucial to understand the differences to recognize the truth. Moreover, dividing Jesus into separate natures would lead to a departure from the concept of the Trinity, transforming it into a quaternity, which undermines the fundamental Christian doctrine. Additionally, it's important to note that initially, there were no Catholics, Protestants, or Eastern Orthodox; over time, divisions from the original unity emerged.
    Mia physis is a Christological doctrine of the Oriental Orthodox emphasizing the unity of Christ's nature, whereas Dyophysites is the doctrine of the Eastern Orthodox and Nestorians advocating for the concept of two distinct natures in Christ. This difference is crucial in understanding the theological disparities between the two traditions and refuting the Eastern Orthodox standpoint.

    • @living_orthodox
      @living_orthodox  9 місяців тому +2

      Miaphysitism is heresy. It is nominal. Not only does it presuppose Christ’s nature is a new composite nature, making Him no longer fully consubstantial with the Father nor humanity, it shows you can’t parse out the difference between nature and person, or universal from particular in other words.
      Your whole model collapses into Tritheism. One “incarnate nature of word” equals the other natures which aren’t incarnate? So you have three gods. One hypostasis (the Word), two natures. The fact you can’t understand this reveals the astounding level of illiteracy of your church.
      You’re also woefully uneducated. The difference between us and the Nestorians is that the Nestorians believe Christ is two natures and two hypostases. Which no matter how they swing it, turns into an issue of two persons. We believe the divine person (hyspostasis) is in two natures. The divine nature is homoousion with the other three persons and thus communicated between them and truly unites them as one God. Your Christological system is rife with the errors I mentioned earlier and is the result of theological illiteracy.

      If you insist on bulking during fasting periods instead of planning around those times (unless it’s actually required for your job/sport somehow), and believe you need a certain amount of protein, then you can find vegan protein powders to go along with your rice, pasta, lentils, fruit or whatever licit foods you choose. Nut butters are a great source of calories; you could hit your caloric ‘needs’ without stuffing yourself if you get enough fat. High fat/carb with moderate protein and maybe even smaller (calorie dense) portions or more time between meals if you’re willing and able to do that for forty days won’t kill all your gains.

      Anecdotally, I know several people who converted to Orthodoxy while yet not understanding the level of veneration given to the Theotokos. To quote one of them: I believe in the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, so I defer to its witness on this matter and pray that I may enter more deeply into this mystery of piety.
      This seems to me the correct attitude; not deferring to their own private opinion-that aligns with modern sectarian beliefs-but rather submitting to the authority and witness of the Church throughout history: its theology and saints and common piety of the faithful.
      Unfortunately it would require a rather lengthy essay to do justice on this topic, but I could add a couple things to consider.
      1) We have no distinction between the Church Triumphant and Church Militant-the Church is One and alive in heaven and on earth-so in one sense what you say would be akin to telling us that our earthly mothers should be sad if we ask for their help and prayers. We could 'just ask Jesus' after all.
      I think this is also a misunderstanding of 'the one mediator between God and man.' The mediation is due to the uniting of our humanity to the eternal Person of the Logos: after making propitiation He ascended and sat down at the right hand of the Father, elevating human nature to His throne, making full communion possible.
      2) The Theotokos is also the mother of the Christian race, and has been exalted by God above every saint and angel. Or to what angel is the Logos united with bodily? Who of the great saints has both this same spiritual and material relation? She is forever unique in all of creation: the new Eve for the second Adam, the Ark of the New Covenant (containing the uncontainable God in her womb) through whom Heaven came down to earth for the salvation of man; who is deified and radiant with the uncreated light of God-Queen Mother of the Kingdom, to reign forever with the Lord of Glory. Inexpressible magnificence.
      3) In light of these things we could hardly honor her enough, and if anyone should dishonor her they dishonor God who has so highly favored her. Of course we very highly honor her, for God has done so. Of course we ask the Mother of our God to intercede for us. And obviously we find such intercession valuable.
      Prayer is ordained by God-not that He has any need of it, but according to His good pleasure, for our benefit, we are given to pray and ask. We will continue to ask the friends of God to pray to Him on our behalf (especially His Mother). We pray for others who ask and ask the same for ourselves. How much poorer we would be without it! If the saints prayed to God for people while on earth, why would they cease their intercessions before the throne?

    Jesus is the Only Begotten Son of God. To me, begotten means birthed son. Is begotten son Prince William less than King Charles? Yes and no. Just as Jesus always referred to his Father as Father and that he Jesus was lesser than the Father yet worked the will of his Father with perfection. The kinship terms were used with precision. Does not undeify the Son nor the Father. Just as calling Prince William a son does not reduce William to peasant status. He is still royalty. Perhaps it is human absolutism that cannot handle Begotten Son of God as truth. For either Jesus was the Only Begotten or scripture is wrong.

    • @living_orthodox
      @living_orthodox  10 місяців тому +4

      So again here is the limited thinking of those who cannot distinguish between persons and nature. Begotten doesn’t mean birthed. In the sense of divinity and the fact that God (the Trinity) is uncreated, begotten describes the mode (not modalism) of existence of the person of the Son. The three persons of the Holy Trinity have always existed as God exists before and outside of space and time. To claim Christ is created is not only demonic but a perversion that makes salvation impossible, given that only one who is God and Man can unite man to God because He enhypostatized human nature. It’s shocking to see how many struggle with Arianism. Given that Arianism is a heresy that is formed from such weak faith that it had to lower God to man rather than elevate man to God.
      God’s being as in the being that is common to all three persons of the Trinity isn’t comparable to earthly fathers and sons the way you laid out. Time to read some Church Fathers. This is your soul and if you’re not careful, you will be entrusting it with your one faulty reasoning. Simply put, scripture isn’t wrong. You are.

      @@living_orthodox Sorry but the Trinity instead is demonic for it makes Jesus to be a pagan three headed monster god like Cerberus, the three headed one body hound of hell. The origins of the trinity was in response to being accused by the Jews of being polytheists. The mental gymnastics to concoct an idol monster to appease both the Jews and the new pagan converts. To deny Jesus as the Only Begotten Son is to deny Jesus himself. Ashamed to admit that Father had a son. Like Prince William is less royal than his father King Charles. Shame on you for denying the divinity of the Son. Put aside your pagan idolatry and believe the truth of the scripture and the truth of NDE witnesses who report Jesus standing literally on the right hand of the Father. No siamese twin but separate entities as Father and Only Begotten Son. Son is not Father. Neither Father the Son. Yet both deity. Truth. Sorry you hold onto idolatry trinity. Sins of the fathers for concocting such paganism. Satanic is having Satan as an individual yet Father, Son, Holy Ghost is a Cerberus entity. God the Father. His only Begotten Son Jesus. The Holy Spirit. United in purpose but not in form. Truth eternal.
