@@AutoAuctionRebuilds Randy that valve you were talking about for the A/C where its leaking pretty bad and doesn’t hold vacuum i believe its called a POA valve (Pilot Operated Absolute)
They are pricey, but Holley makes a headlight bulb that look completely old school in appearance but gives you LED light output. Thinking about trying a pair in one of my old schools, but $120 a pop ain’t exactly on the top of my list. LOL
Vapor lock is the term you were looking for. Original glass lights for sure! Would be great to find glass lenses that look old school that you can put LEDs into in order to get more brightness. But All LEDs are not alike. I have bought ones with the exact same specs on paper, that look completely different in reality.
When it comes to appearance when parked, I definitely prefer the OEM style sealed beams, but from a practicality standpoint, the LEDs when properly installed and aimed are superior for driving, particularly on rural highways. I upgraded my vintage Buick to modern LEDs, and feel that it much safer driving at night on the rural highways near my home. I will be updating my 1985 Oldsmobile as well later this year.
So glad you are taking the Caddy on the Power Tour. LED headlight bulbs are rubbish, I tried a set on my car and I could not see a damn thinhg in the dark so I had to refit the OEM ones.
at least it happened in your driveway and not in a Walmart parking lot, p.s love the Caddy, great prep work for your upcoming trip, have fun on the rid
Man, this brings back memories of all the GM fuel pumps that I rebuilt back in the 70s. You're lucky that someone replaced the points with that electronic module, I LOVED working on cars back then, but always hated dealing with points, even back when that was the only way to go.
You need a new expansion valve you will definitely want ac for power tour even if you need alot of new parts let a professional fix it and film it. Alot of us would love to learn what it would take to fix it
it's not an expansion valve. thats a POA valve that regulates low side pressure to prevent freeze up. It also continues to pass oil even when the refrigerant flow is limited
LOL Yeah Randy its called Vapor Lock and yes i've done that. It Sucks. Love the work your doing on the Caddy. Loved the 1996 You had but this one is a real ride too.
Looking forward to Power tour in that old Caddy and you’re doing it with one of nicest most humbled dudes on the planet again. I think MWM should find him a big ass old 79 Continental 460 car before next years Power Tour and take it along too. We gotta get him away from the damn Mercedes. Lol
Great video man. Holley has a retro set of headlights with the bright white that would be perfect. They are a little expensive, but worth every penny. Huge difference for my car. Keep the videos coming
Old school headlamps are the classic look and ate easy to find replacement at any part store ! Enjoyed the fuel pump install and black sealer trick ! Even I never thought of the future ease of replacement . I learn something new every day from different motor heads like myself ! Look forward to you and mike in the power tour ! Have a great week ! God Bless !
Randy, I noticed you have some wires going through a bulkhead at the radiator. The wires were resting on the metal opening with no grommet. You should check to make sure the wire insulation isn't being chewed through. Good job on the headlights, you made the right call. It may be worth the money to have an ac tech fix the air conditioner. It's going to be a long, hot trip. It will also be miserable if...no, when, it rains if there's no air conditioning to clear up the moisture buildup.
My friend nice Cadillac I'm a Cadillac guy myself. keep that old fuel pump maybe rebuild it or if it just needs tightening that's even better, keep it save it that's a good thing to have the original parts good luck and let's keep these Cadillacs on the road 👍🏼🙌🏼
You may want to check LMC truck for the part for your air conditioner because the parts for the air conditioning is the same for the trucks as the car's of similar years.
The halogen sealed beams look the best on this '65 Cadillac. I really enjoy the old car videos you put out. BTW, the AC part in question that needs to be replaced is called an expansion valve. The climate control in dash needs to be replaced as you know as well and probably much more to get the AC to work. Sooo many vacuum lines!
The big thing is a POA valve. They can be switched to just a tube with a low pressure cycling switch. It is important to hook up the cycling switch so the evap doesnt freeze or flood back to the compressor. Also consider charging with 65-70% propane, rest isobutane. It works very well and is compatible with the old mineral oil
Great video! You and Monkey Wrench Mike be the class of the Power Tour field in your awesome Cadillac! Can't wait to see you having fun meeting with your peeps from around the country!
I agree with you on the halogen style bulbs over the LEDs on any classic car, I also don’t like seeing led halos on classics either..just doesn’t look right!
Randy , i think a lighting system like Doxall Led will be better, stock is ok , but for your safety good lights will be a must, love that cadillac and your be mad to part with it, better than any ferrari, lambo, aston etc, can you show more on the repairs, you can buy aluminium sleeving for fuel pipes that get hot and Vapor lock the fuel, they use this on Rally cars, loving the vids, pls more on this 65 caddy, Range Rovers r 2 a penny, there nice to look at and drive , same with high end Audi, mercedes,Bmw,officially the build quality and reliabilty of mercedes has declined since 1997 or there abouts.
G'evening Randy ☕☕ 😇 . I'm pulling the LED headlights out of my 89 Chevy Blazer and I'm upgrading them w/ two 55 watt 6009k HID systems. One system for the low beams, the other system for the high beams and I highly recommend you consider doing the same thing,, you'll love it 🙃
LED's are awesome though! Honestly I would have tried to aim them better, and if they were too dim or something I would have tried getting different LED's. However I will agree that the original glass lights look better on the car.. until they're lit haha they're just dull in my opinion. If they made those glass housings with the option to put a LED bulb in them that'd be sick, and the light would be distributed better too.
I definitely for 1 love that automatic bright/dim option on that car.. I don’t “think” I’ve ever seen that before in an old classic?? I used to do upholstery in these classics for most of my teen years with my dad.. and seriously don’t Remember ever seeing that before?? Pretty slick!!
According to google they were first introduced in 1952 in the Oldsmobile. It was called an automatic eye. I'm 70 and I remember my uncle having one of these cars.
I agree with you, ethanol is the problem. The problem with older cars like your Caddy, there were made when gasoline was not adulterated with ethanol. One option is to try and use ethanol free gas if you can get it. Try a google search or check with a local private airport since they tend to carry for small aircraft.
I know some people would prefer to keep everything stocked on older vehicles but I rather LED’s because you can see better . After all there’s nothing wrong of having some modernization
Randy that valve you were talking about for the A/C where its leaking pretty bad and doesn’t hold vacuum i believe is called a POA valve (Pilot Operated Absolute) basically like an expansion valve or txv Part numb 25-1552 was made from 1965 to 1973 hope this helps! 🙂 @AutoAuctionRebuilds
Hey Randy, I just got done watching your video from today. I think the new ones that you put in your Cadillac today are pretty awesome. I think they look better than the LED ones that were in the car originally I can’t wait to see your next video on the Cadillac I hope you have a good rest of the day if you would tell Nick and Jessica that Danny. Said hi I’ll talk to you later. Have a good day today. Talk to you later man
Randy thay make a old school head light that is like the led lights you took out but they are still old school I have have used them on my freatliner that I used to have and I used the hilo lites in all four lites when you turnd on the brites you were able to see over a half mile down the road all I did was I got the hilow plugs of a junk car wired the hilow to geter and plug it in the 2 plug Hi light and tapped it up to keep it dry and it was great the light's cost a lot more than the reager lites but it was worth it in the long haul on back roads it was worth every penny you have no idea how far you can see it was like daylight
The valve on the Caddy is a Thermal Expansion Valve, I'm thinking, it's older than when I was born, but can't think of anything else it could be? Not 100% sure though, never worked on anything that old, so it's just my educated guess? Good luck, Randy.
hey randy i have a question, back in summer of 2022 you had bought a chrysler 300 with a hole in the oil pan, whatever happened to it? i dont think a video was made on it. Thanks so much, thats a nice Cadillac
Do all the Vacuum lines, there aren't many and it will be a huge difference versus capping and bypassing. I do mine with silicone, and I did my hoses too the Trans Am is so much smoother
hi randy here’s something random but i found your channel right around when you were fixing that dodge dart currently im 17 still in high school and i sometimes have your videos playing in the background while i do homework just wanted to share
I know camera angles and lens distortion from wide angle lenses can make things look off, but, it sure looks like that left front tire is cambered in. What made me look at it is the inner tire wear. Or, maybe it's just the ride height.
Your fiancé was right. Showing anything with the old car is much more entertaining than anything with modern boring cars
His videos with the Mercedes has a lot more views
@@CarlosGutierrez-qw6pr yeah well the 65 caddy is still better looking and cooler than any modern car
The headlights on that car are beautiful
I watched you mow your lawn twice a few weeks ago so of course I'll watch this
Of course we want to see the fuel pump swap. Sunday is catch up on UA-cam car videos day.
Same for me lol!
@@kirkacola7942 we might have to. we met him last year on power tour in Pensacola Florida.

Might be an expansion valve for the A/C
I think the potential hot fuel issue is called Vapor lock
Randy these Videos help us “Newer Wrenchers” have a better understanding of older vehicles so thanks!

randy make sure you get spare hoses and belts etc for the trip . shes looking and sounding great .
Your fiance was right! Great video
I would do a six and four piston disc conversion from the drums brakes for safety traveling 3000 miles those drums might give out.
You got a good day for it Randy , look at that blue sky 😊
I miss these videos when you actually fix something. That how a found you. 👍

Wire in some relays and send 12vdc direct to your headlights. Will make massive improvement.

the LED's are the way to go as far as brightness if done right but you can never go wrong with the old school lights.
