Hi Jose 🤩💐 I have to separate the two... there is far too much 'diluting' of terminology on the interwebs, which could mislead people. There is a huge difference between the two, and I appreciate your feedback, Jose, thank you so very very much!! Hope you are having a great Thursday!! I am having torrential rains.... which is great for the reservoirs that were heading below 30% capacity, but NOT good for the orchids to enjoy! It is too cold... today I have 13ºC... which is crazy for this time of year. The rest of the week is looking similar, maybe we get to 18ºC at some point, but a LOT of rain yet to come. I hope that the authorities will lift the drought restrictions if the reservoirs can fill up enough. At least something positive has to come out of this 'disaster' for my orchids. Thank you for watching, Jose 🌸

Robert! HI! 😍💐 thank you for your feedback! If I had to choose between spending my money on CalMag or seaweed, then I would choose CalMag above seaweed, because... it is a little deluxe treat to apply to orchids, but the job that CalMag can do is more important to me, than seaweed helping out with what the orchid would do naturally. I don't want to give the impression that seaweed is a must! 😬 I hope you are well and toasty! 😫😜 I have a canoe outside ... just in case the patio gets flooded! 🚣🏼‍♂️ if I could film in the rain, I would get my little blow up dinghy, sit in it and make a fun video, but my camera equipment would protest 😂 so... vivid imagination is required for that video idea 😆 thank you so much for watching, Robert!! Have a fabulous rest of your day 😘🌸

Hi Nina, great video. I did not know the best time to apply seaweed and you answered that beautifully. I do have many orchids actively growing roots and leaves so I'm going to give them a dose later this week. Just finished watering started Friday. Yep, 3 1/2 days watering, takes alot longer indoors. I do have almost 300 orchids now plus when I water I clean up and stake what I didn't get done before I moved in for the winter. Your tutelage is greatly appreciated. Thanks again Orchid Master.😊

🌸🥷🏼 Bob San 😍🙌🏼🤸 🥰💐yay!! I did not put you off with yet another link 🙌🏼🙏🏼😅 watering does take a lot longer indoors, I agree and it is so much more tedious!! Of course then there is also the added 'take the opportunity to do some housekeeping while they are off the shelves', yes, it is more cumbersome and time consuming! Yesterday I spent time cleaning leaves on orchids that had to come inside but did not have the time to clean before they came inside. Today, I have another load... I get it😅 but it is kinda fun to play with them when it is nasty outside. Thank YOU so much for your time, your support and not getting fed up with me providing links 😆 hope you have yourself a fabulous day, 🌸🥷🏼 Bob San 🫶🏼❤️🌸

Very informative Nina, thank you. I've go my RO water in and plumbed so I was wondering if I should use the seaweed. mainly to check ppms and stuff. Ill do that in a few months as we are heading into fall. We got our first rain in like 4 months today. God it was a nice cool down.

Julie, hi 😍❤️💐 thank you so much for being so generous with your time and watch this video as well!! You are good to go! As you are more of a controlled climate, dealing with seedlings, I would continue with the seaweed, but really low ppm for the little ones. 20ppm. Any orchids that are going into a rest phase, I would stop if they are not in active growth. First rain in 4 months? I hope that I get to say that at some point myself. I have had nothing but cold hands and feet for the past 2 weeks. The weather here has been nothing but catastrophic... it is good for the reservoirs, but, I have been without electricity in the house since 2 weeks. The fuse keeps tripping. I have my work space connected to a neighboring property via an industrial extension cord ... other wise the past 2 weeks would have been total radio silence from me. Honestly... it has been the worst March that I can remember and it is so darn cold, the orchids cannot go outside. They have been in the dark as well 😫 I am at the end of my rope 😪 I feel as though every time I move, I get the chills. I am so desperate for warmer temps. Desperate! 💆🏼‍♀️ have a lovely weekend, beautiful lady ❤️🌸

🦒🙋‍♀️🙌☔💧💧💧"the when, the why and the how" served in a thorough manner!!! Another video of referance 👏. I have just realized we have surpassed the 12 hour mark of day length and the orchids are responding to it, regardless of the lower light. They sure need a boost for when the bright sunny days are back and the light increases tremendously. It's raining continuously over my garden, which is quite unsusual. I have no more buckets available to collect rain water. They are all full. Maybe I should start using my kitchen pans 🤣 Although I love the sound of the rain I am ansious for the sunny bright days. One day less to get brighter sunny days amiga. Thank goodness for the rain, though, Less forest fires when drier days settle in. Too unfair the rain is giving you so much disconfort and it might be dangerous too. I am always so scared of short circuits 😵 Much, much love to you 😍🥰🤗

FFF 🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🥰😍💐 you too?!! the snails are going to love it 🐌🥊 Here 🚣🏼‍♂️🚣🏼‍♂️🚣🏼‍♂️ or fishing waders to go outside! Nothing in the house though 🙏🏼 I am still connected at my desk 🙏🏼 but the orchids are staying outside with the exception of the mounts, which I am going to take outside. It has stopped raining, it is still cold though, I doubt taking the orchids outside is going to do any good. pots and pans sounds good! 😆 I cannot wait to flush the orchids with what I have collected! But that needs to warm up first as well, because it is very cold water. If I took a shower with that water, I would have a heart attack as well. I am handling this situation one hour at a time, amiga! It is very very inconvenient, but, I cannot help but be grateful that I have my desk connected. Or else, we would be in trouble with for all sorts of reasons. At least we can charge our phones, and have some form of connection to the outside world with internet and not use the data on the phones which would make the phone bill shoot up 😒 One thing that really impresses me is how much I am letting my victoria-reginae get rained on, with a brand new growth sticking straight up, it could be considered dangerous and susceptible to rot, but nope! I am really pushing to see how much this orchid can take... and it is just a happy camper in these conditions. Does not mean that it is growing any faster, but it is not showing any problems on the leaves etc... I wish this rain was warmer... all my orchids would be outside exposed to it. I may consider cleaning the house the old fashioned way today 😆 Xyliano's cage etc. I am so not in the mood, but .... Thank you so very much for watching, meine liebe Freundin! I really appreciate your time, and your positive feedback 🙏🏼 have yourself a wonderful day, despite the conditions ❤️🌸

Mother nature can't decide if it's still winter, we had snow yesterday, or if it's spring, it's going to be 70°f tomorrow. I'm months out from warm enough night temps for plants to go outside at this elevation, 1524.5 meters above sea level, the air is cold up here 😅 So, yeah, you gave me things to think about and consider how to implement some of it. One thing I keep telling myself... especially during the weather we are currently having, which is nothing spring like at all!! I keep telling myself that, the sun is rising in the sky above the cloud cover and when that breaks, it is going to be spring within 24 hrs. And then the orchids are ready with a little booster snack. Considering that I had okish weather in February and started with seaweed and now in March, it is as if we are in Mid December... in 10 days, supposedly, the weather will break 'a little'.... that sun will have risen in the meantime. Maybe that helps you in your considerations! I cannot believe what is happening outside, but, it is a blessing. A week ago, we were told that we were in drought status... I hope that the rain alleviates that problem some. At least, that would make me feel better 😬

I hope that you are well too 👍🏼 You can definitely use fish emulsion for orchids, just know that, it is a fertilizer, organic, but not a supplement. So, if you are fertilizing your orchids with a general fertilizer, and then use fish emulsion... you are doubling up. Rhyncattleanthe is a hybrid made up from Cattleya x Rhyncholaelia x Guarianthe. It is part of the Cattleya alliance and often requires the same care as actual Cattleyas. @NinjaOrchids  2 роки тому +5

Hi Kris 🤩💐 welcome!! I don't believe that I have seen you here before, so... a warm warm welcome and thank you very much for being here 🙌🏼 when you apply seaweed, it does not matter.... even if you are not fertilizing an orchid yet because it is not in active growth, but you want to boost the natural hormone activity of the orchid a month prior to it kicking into action, you can apply seaweed without even fertilizing yet. Some add it into their fertilizer. Personally, because I cannot define if there is 'too much going' on in a mixed solution, I prefer to keep every supplement application separate. That is how I stay in a safe zone 😬 I hope this helped to answer your question? Let me know if anything else comes up. Again, welcome, and thank you so much for watching 🙌🏼 have a fabulous day 🌸

I was thinking to add seaweed to my fertilizer solution starting in spring and go from 30 ppm in April to 45 ppm in July/august then stop around late sept. I know its hard to say simply yes or no but do you think this schedule would be adequate?I have very cold/dry winters and very warm/humid summers. Pretty new to physically growing orchids but have been researching for quite some time. (Growing all phals mainly hybrids since im new!)

Hi Trend 😃💐 welcome! I have not seen you here before, so... first of all, a warm warm welcome and thank you so much for being here, I really appreciate it! 🙌🏼 the way you describe your conditions, your intuition is doing you a lof of justice. 👍🏼 are you growing in organic or inorganic media? Not because that has anything to do it, but I am just curious 😁 for phals, your plans of applying seaweed is perfect. If you use your fertilizer water in one go, then, mix the seaweed up in it as well. If you have any left overs, I would advise against keeping it longer than an additional day. The organic component mixed with the fertilizer, could change the quality of the fertilizer... so, just keep that in mind 👍🏼 seeing as I am not a chemistry buff, I always advise separating one thing from the other, this way, I know that the information I provide will not cause any issues for someone who is not sure about certain things. Again, really appreciate you being here. Thank YOU for watching, for your comment, and... welcome! Hope to see you around often 😊🌸

@@NinjaOrchids Thank you!! I will be here a lot now 😂 I have lots of questions and you are very knowledgable 🙇‍♂️ to give you more background I'm windowsill growing, however I have a humidifier running all the time in winter (which is partially why I got into orchids funny enough lol many other reasons also though). Anyways - they get bright sun in a south facing window with curtains, they get 1-2 hours of direct very early morning sun and the rest of the time very bright filtered light. I don't use lights, so however long the sun is up is how much sun they get. I grow them all in moss (it seemed the easiest to me since I have another hobby that is very very similar to how moss wicks liquid) However im not sure if im feeding too much at the moment... thinking to switch to every other watering instead of every watering since moss retains more nutrients as I understand. Im using Jacks Part A (Calcium nitrate 80-100ppm 15-0-0), Jacks Part B (typically around 80ppm) and Jacks Magnesium sulfate once a month at about 20ppm in that mix (will also be adding the seaweed now!!) I think after watching a few of your videos im feeding a bit too high for my temperatures but im not positive. Sorry for the long message

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  2 роки тому +4

From what I am reading here, your fertilizer amounts are fine! The complex hybrid phalaenopsis are big orchids, big structures, and then long spikes, long lasting blooms. What you are righting here is the right amount. With the moss, just make sure that your pH range is adequate and that it does not get too acidic. 6.8... just in case that would bring up another question. Also, if the moss is fresh, then that is also a good pH. It is safe as well, if your moss is aging. If you do not let your moss dry out, then know that, it will deteriorate faster than if it were to dry out on occasions. I do not want to overstep any boundaries with what I am saying here, so, please don't think I am trying to interfere! 😬 I loved growing in organic media, just so happens that circumstances in my life changed with this collection, and I went full on inorganic. But, organic media used to be my jam! 👍🏼

Hi! 🤩💐 welcome! I have not seen you in the comments before, so a warm warm welcome, a massive thank you for being here and another one for watching the video, ... not done yet... thank you for your feedback 🙌🏼😃 The VR, a stroke of sheer luck that it is coping here. I thought I would have difficulty with it during the months of July and August, that I would have to bring it inside to protect it from the heat, but, no need for that. It turns out that very rarely, does the heat in full shade during the summer months, reach 30ºC / 86ºF. I focus on these 2 months because that is when the climate is out of the comfort zone for her, but a lot of misting happens to cool down the foliage and the surroundings of the mount. The fact that for 10 months of the year, the temperatures are not as harsh and within the acceptable parameters, this orchid has enough time to gather strength for the stressful 2 months. Also, the fact that live moss has populated the mount, it is a fabulous agent for keeping the roots cool, which I find super important as well. During the hot days, I mist with slightly cooler water as well. If the ambient temps are as mentioned previously, including dry wind, because I have an average humidity of 30%, I use the water I have stored in the pantry, which remains cooler, than the buckets I have outside. With these measures in mind, the orchid can handle the 2 months that are extreme. She is doing great, even to this day. I have had 3 bloom flushes during this year alone. After she finishes this bloom flush, we will be heading into July... that is when she will stop growing her active canes completely, but, as from mid September, I can see that she also breathes a sigh of relief 😅 I cannot tell you just how relieved I am that I did not over estimate my competence with this orchid in my climate! Something I have unfortunately done with others 👎🏼🙄 I hope that these pointers answer your question, and I hope that you are having a great day! Once again, welcome 🫶🏼🌸

Do you ever watch videos of people making fertilizer and they add seaweed every time? I see them adding like 6 drops and I have to question if that is even a biologically relevant amount. If the plants seem to be doing OK for them, I don't even bother saying anything. But it does drive me crazy.
I still haven't remembered what I was going to ask. I can feel it there in the back of my mind, it just doesn't want to come out. Oh well. I have been distracted all day, which hasn't helped. I hurt my right hand this morning throwing something in the dumpster, maybe a minor sprain, it still functions, just a twinge when I do some things (and it is a bit puffy, which bothers me more than anything. Don't like looking at sausage fingers. 🤣). My dad is driving me crazy about picking out a backsplash. Because the cabinets are chalk white and the counter will be mostly white with some blue veining, I think the backsplash needs to be bold. I want either Portuguese style (white and blue) tiles or blue onyx porcelain. He thinks it will be "too much to look at". He's wrong and I don't know how to convince him he's wrong. The blue onyx will be less "busy" but harder to install because there are four outlets on that wall, which means cutting four precise holes in the middle of the tiles. It will look *amazing*, no question, I just don't know that either of us is skilled enough to do it.
Also glad to hear that Alex made it home safe and sound. Hopefully there was still hot water.

Don Miguel 😍💐 hola jefe! I have not seen those kinds of videos, no... I suppose the dose would be feasible for a cup of water 😁 otherwise... probably of no effect at all. Meanwhile, we know that orchids will grow fine without seaweed, it's just a nice thing to be able to use as an additional push. If I did not have seaweed, I would not consider it a problem. I prefer to have my CalMag not run out, but, if I could not get my hands on seaweed anymore, then it would not faze me. Do you think that maybe you did something to your carpal tunnel? I have to be careful with that on both hands, especially as I handle pots. Years and years of polishing glasses has made mine flare up ever so often. I think that you are right about the backsplash being a bit bolder to offset the white, but, I would not go too dark. I am not sure how dark blue, the onyx is you are referring to. The advantage of having a bolder back splash as opposed to light, is the maintenance. If you are anything like me, it would drive me crazy to have anything showing on a light background. I have a white backsplash in this property ... I went bonkers when we moved in to get it to look clean and now, maintain it from even showing the slightest splatter. Whenever I put the kettle on, I take the opportunity to wipe it down because I point the steam in that direction 😬 light backsplashes are pretty, but a real pain! Also, if you are using grout, and if that is white... yeah, one pop of a boiling bubble of pasta sauce on the grouting and 😳 😐 still raining here! I will get the canoe out tomorrow and row around the patio 😜 those reservoirs better be filling up nicely so that the authorities can lift the drought measures 👍🏼 thank you so much for watching, Michael! Have a cozy rest of your evening and... rest that hand ❤️🌸

@@NinjaOrchids no, not carpal tunnel, I think I hyperextended the joints in my fingers, especially the four where they meet the hand, that is where it is the most sore and swollen. I can live with it, it will heal.
I sent you an email with the onyx backsplash.
No rain here. Dry dry dry. Fires will be popping up again, same thing we deal with every spring.

Hi Michael 😍💐 welcome! I have not seen you here before, so first of all a big big welcome and secondly, thank you for watching the video AND for the correction! 🙆🏼‍♀️🙏🏼 Dang! I totally missed that when reviewing the commentary and conversion information! I apologize profoundly for that error! However, I do appreciate you bringing it to my attention and mentioning it in the comments. To my understanding, 10 litres = approx 2.6 US gallons and approx 2 Imperial gallons. Wow! I am glad that you picked up on that so that I could make the correction here! Much appreciated 🫶🏼 hope you are having a great day ❤️🌸
