  • An exterior security camera is an essential part of your home security system. There can, however, be a problem if you're not around to recharge a battery powered camera. A great option is to install a solar charging panel, which can take care of keeping the power to the camera charged at all times.
In my latest video I install a solar charging panel for the Vacos wireless outdoor camera I previously installed on my home.
Thanks for watching! I'm Terry Peterman, the Internet Electrician, and welcome to my channel. On this channel I teach DIYers how to safely and competently work on simple electrical projects around the home. I will teach you how to do it right, do it safely, and save money by doing it yourself.

This is the first time I need to install security camera's. I never knew that wireless doesn't mean literally no wires required. Until I watched this video, I thought I was ready to go. Thankyou for your details to doing a job. You have saved me so much grief since my husband is against having the camera's. I need to be as informed as humanly possible.

Reading the comments and reviews along with doing the research my self. I have seen peoples concern with whether the camera will hold a charge or not. As a resolution consider solar panels with a higher wattage. I read some reviews on cameras using panels with higher wattages and they say they don’t have any complaints. Maybe try that? I’m trying to do my thorough research before I buy my own 😊

You prompted me to check mine now. It's been snowing for 3 days and the battery still shows 100%. That's excellent, and I never would have expected that! Give me your What's App or cell number and I'll text you a screenshot.

I have a Vico camera as well for outdoor and it keeps going off line. In settings, do I use the solar panel or plug-in setting. I’m not sure this is the problem of why it keeps going off line. It might be my internet but I’m trying to due process of elimination. Thank you in advance.

@@theinternetelectrician - With solar panel, the camera is not getting full charge or rather it's charging only till 10% or 15% only. so just need to know solar powered camera will charge the camera completely or something like 10 % to 15% only.

@@venkateshandavan4122 I'm having the same problem. Even in the summertime here, the panel isn't providing enough power to keep the camera charged fully, and in the winter, not a chance. Last winter while I was away, I had to run temporary power to the camera and keep it plugged in.

Anyone tried this contraption and it worked?
How long does the charge keep the camera running?

Sadly, my concern that it wouldn't keep the camera charged during our cloudy, wet, and cool winter came true. I now have temporary power to it. I will do a follow-up video in the spring running an outlet under the eave for a permanent fix.

@@theinternetelectrician Thank you Terry. Just went to Vacos' web site to do some research and the reviews are not very encouraging. Many people experienced very poor solar charging and WIFI connections and even interference. So your statement in your response is correct. Was looking at the latest Wize too...
