I always wondered how powerful calculator solar can be for different applications.

i have a solar charger on my ring gen2 and it stays anywhere from 70-95% everday, it works great, i too got tired of charging, it claimed 6 months, well 6 months is in reality 1 month every charge, i got tired of it, solar panel installed and not charged once
side note, the ac power is for hardwired powersource, the 5vdc from solar or usb is what direct charging the battery does

To me that adds way too large of a footprint to the device I don’t want some large cumbersome thing like that attached to my front door area… to me the much simpler solution is how I have mine done it’s battery operated but it also has wires attached to the back they run down under my porch and plug into a adapter with a in-line resistor to allow for the proper voltage that the ring needs and it continuously charges doorbell with a nice clean install with the wires hidden behind the door frame where you don’t even see it and it only cost probably 10 or 15 bucks for the wireless adapter and resistor to put in line to power it. This way you always have a full charge battery but if your power goes out for whatever reason you still have the battery backup I have my modem and routers on UPS’s so if my power goes out I still have Internet so my ring doorbell and other outdoor cams can still send me notifications.

That works too. A little above most people technical abilities. But yeah, it's an option

The title is wrong, it’s impossible not to have a power source. If you use solar, the sun is the power source.

      You're joking?!
The sun on its own is not a power source. It has potential energy, but without a way to harness and use it then it's not actually a power source
Put you on an exercise bike with a generator connected to it and suddenly your a power source.
Does that mean that you are never ever in a situation where you don't have power??
You have to be kidding me

@@GearsAndTech and by using a solar panel, you ARE harnessing that power. You put the answer in your reply without realizing it.
Also the sentence right after the bike example makes me think you don’t know how to read context clues. I’m not talking about no power all the time, wherever you are. I mean it’s impossible to operate the ring doorbell without a power source. Don’t be stupid. In fact, because of the idiotic thing you just said, I’m unsubscribing.

    isn't that a power source

    • @GearsAndTech

Technically anything with potential energy is a power source
If you don't have a way to harness it then technically it's not an option for you. And in that case, you have no power

This is a horrible title. You do know the sun is a form of power right lol
