It is definitely a different approach than Manga but you basically have the freedom to just start wherever you want and are interested in.
The 1999 Amazing Spider-Man #1 was precluded by a 12 issue maxi-series called "Spider-Man: Chapter One". It was a "modern" retelling of Spider-Man's origin and early days that was basically meant to reboot the character in much the same way that DC rebooted Superman in the mid-80's with the "Man Of Steel" mini-series. And just like Man Of Steel, Spider-Man: Chapter One was written and drawn by John Byrne. You really need to read that 12 issue series before jumping into the regular series that began with that new #1 in 1999.
Just wanted to add the the Spider-Man Chapter One series is no longer considered in continuity. They tried a reboot, but it didn’t catch on. Everything went back into continuity with J. Michael Strazinski’s (sp) run starting with ASM vol.2 #30 (2001).

Same here. Marvel silver age is where all the fun began with Steve Ditko. I have been reading and collecting the marvel masterworks series as it is more budget friendly opposed to buying an omnibus or tracking down every issue individually.

I know you explained a lot in this video and it’s all helpful, but I read the first issue of “the amazing Spider-Man” 2018 and in it I noticed they talked about superior Spider-Man, do I need to start with that comic series? Since it directly ties into the beginning of this? And if so is there another series before that?
Your comment is from 6 months ago, so I imagine you’ve solved this problem already, but here’s my answer: it’s up to you. You could go back and read Superior now, or you could just read a bit up on it on Wikipedia (or don’t even bother to do that, and trust the 2018 series to fill you in). This answer doesn’t just work for Spider-Man, but for all comic characters. Totally up to you if you wanna read the story they reference or not. I’ve found a lot of the time you won’t be very lost if you don’t (especially with newer stories). I haven’t read the 2018 series, and have only read a bit of Superior (but have read plenty of Spider-Man in my life). I’m looking forward to getting around to them.
If you wanna read Spider-Man as physical copies, i would recommend buying HC omnibuses. I started with ASM omnibus vol. 1 and continued with these: ASM omnibus 1-5 ASM by Roger Stern Spider-Man: Complete Black suit omnibus (coming this year) Venom vs. Spider-man omnibus Spider-man by Michelinie & Mcfarlane omnibus ASM Michelinie & Larsen omnibus (coming this year) ASM Michelinie & Bagley omnibus (coming this year There's still some gaps that hasnt been collected in omnibus format, but i bet Marvel will make them.
My humble opinion: 1. Read Ultimate Spider-Man (2000). 2. Move on to The Amazing Spider-Man vol. 2 #30 (Straczynski era). 3. Move on to the Brand New Day era (if you like). This is it.

I personally recommend the Ultimate Spider-Man run to start out… it’s not the 616 universe but it’s probably the most relatable Spider-Man series

I was reading the Amazing Spider-Man digitally but switched to tpb. Since Mighty Marvel Masterworks just came out, decided to give that a try.
I just need the omnibus/tpb reading order mostly with clone saga cause idk where to start
