1:59:32 - Patriots begin game-winning drive
2:03:56 - Vinatieri makes game-winning FG as time expires
Kurt Warner and the Rams were known as the greatest show on turf, they tore through the offensive record books and looked nearly unstoppable throughout the 2001 season. In the eyes of most people, a trip to the Super Bowl was an accomplishment for a Patriots team being led by its backup quarterback, Tom Brady. However, the Patriots had larger aspirations as they defeated the Rams on a game winning field goal from Adam Vinatieri. The win against the Rams was the first Super Bowl victory in Patriot's history and was a launching point for their dynasty of the 2000's.

i'' never forget what Rams reciever Ricky Prohel said before the game... The Dynasty begins tonight"" That was the perfect way to advertise a reign of dominance that would last 20 years. incredible.
Dana Calderone I believe the exact quote was, "tonight, a dynasty is born."
@@justfitz08 he was right about one thing. A dynasty WAS BORN. 😂
I remember Kurt Warner being interviewed before the game. He said he is going to win lots of super bowls. He pretty much disappeared after this game and came up for air in Arizona several years later. I do remember thinking before this game that the Pats had no chance at all and this Brady guy would be working at burger king in 2 years. Shows what I know.
Definition of irony
Be careful what you wish for, the universe works in weird ways.
Man watching a full NFL game without commercials is HEAVENLY
Shortened time-saving too! So that I can watch the past interview about this game.
The calmness of Brady at that age in that moment on that stage was a sign of things to come.
Yup. I obviously can't say, "I knew he'd win 7 SBs!"... But any New England fan can say that when he started out, he just had something about him that said, "I'm a winner." He was cool, calm and efficient. He never was like Marino, Bledsoe, Manning, Rivers, Favre etc, in the sense he wasn't constantly bugging out about stuff on the field. He certainly has his moments lol but his demeanor is everything you want to see in a QB. After a drive, good or bad, he walks to the bench, sits down and collects himself. He'll talk to guys. Sometimes he'll get the team going a bit but when he's between the lines, it's just poetic. He had what, 18TDs-12Ints, 25TDs-13Ints, whatever it was during those first few years. His numbers were average. BUT, he managed the offense, the run game was great because he knew how to set protection. He was great in the screen game and when it mattered most, he was MONEY. Eventually he got better at every area, especially after 07'. But his ability to command a huddle is 2nd to none. I always loved his games against Rivers(Whom I got nothing but respect for) because while Rivers was constantly yelling to the sideline, refs, players etc... Brady was the Polar Opposite. He would just take care of business and let his play do the talking. The D was always setting the tone anyways and alot of the skill guys played with fire. Brady just did his job. 20yrs later, you can see that's why Belichick loved him and why(Contrary to the haters and Espn) they had such a prosperous relationship. They knew WINNING trumped everything. Stats don't matter when the game is tied with 90 seconds left and the ball is in your hands. TB12 is the GOAT and I was privileged to watch him play every Sunday for 20yrs.
You really watch this game and just notice brady....i hate Quarterback fans....where are the people who like football

“What Tom Brady just did really gave me goosebumps”
He only had one TD (from turnover benefit) in the entire game. Not his best game (until first 4th quarter comeback with a field goal)
@@coachbroncoExactly. He managed the game quite well but he wasn’t yet the Tom Brady that could torch defenses and put up amazing stats, that was still four or five years away. I would’ve given the Super Bowl MVP to Ty Law.
I used to love that noise when someone scored a point on the Fox channel lol
They should seriously go back to it. It's way more exciting than how they do it nowadays.

Tom Brady may be the only player still playing from both teams combined even the rookies are probably retired. Now that is incredible!!?

Man, it was a different era. These days, with 1:21 left on the clock at your own 17 yard line, you'd be almost expected as a QB to go for the win.
Brady created that standard. This game is proof
So true! The nfl is so much faster now
I was thinking the same thing!
DealerCamel yea, I mean, in super bowl 49 the Seahawks had 2 minutes and 2 seconds on the clock , and still made it to the endzone. (Well, at the one, because of the pick, but you understand the point.
The drive before the half in SB 49 was with even less time (31 s) - ofc helped with a personal foul call on NE

Birth of a dynasty. End of a era. God Bless you John Madden you will be missed friend
I love how the announcers were just so calm about the WINNING OF THE SUPER BOWL. No change in emotion at all
That was honestly just Pat Summerall and John Madden's style. They more so wanted the viewers to take in the moment themselves.
Pat Summerall was probably wasted, as he was throughout his career
Hayden Gray Madden actually kicked ass on that final drive
they had money on the rams lol
Hayden Gray proubly bet money on the rams
When I think of John madden I watch and think of this game when my patriots beat the rams on the final drive and he said play for overtime and what Tom Brady just did gives me goosebumps.
“What Tom Brady just did gives me goosebumps.”
How many times have we said this since then?
The best moment of the super bowl wasn’t the game
It was the trophy presentation where a young Brady in disbelief happy putting his hands on his head and shaking it.
Watching that makes me so happy for him and even more glad on what Brady became afterwards
one of the biggest upsets in super bowl history.
Peezster how
What do you mean how? The Patriots were just 11-5 and one tuck rule away from being eliminated. The Rams were 14-2, had the #1 offense and the #3 defense, by far the best team in the league. Every top 10 super bowl upset list will have this game in their list. NFL.com ranked this game #3 upset of all time
Got to remember that Brady wasn't known as the GOAT back then, but just the kid starting for the first time in his career in 2001 after Bledsoe's injury. No one would've thought that the Pats would come this far this year especially after facing a dangerous Raiders team in the Divisional round.
The Rams were undefeated on the road that year only losing 2 games that season at home they beat the Patriots in the regular season that season. They were the Greatest show on Turf with Warner, Faulk, Holt, and Bruce and in this superbowl against the Patriots. The Patriots defense dominated the Rams offense. This was a upset because the Rams were favored to win and if would've they won this game they would have been a dynasty
TKS Films Looking at betting odds, there have only been 5 instances where a team was favored by double digits in the superbowl and lost. Favre was favored by 11 against Elway and lost. Len Dawson and the Chiefs beat the Purple People Eaters and the Vikings, after the Vikings were favored by 12. The Patriots lost in 2007 to the Giants after being favored by 12. Joe Namath beat the Colts after the Colts were favored by 18. In this game, Warner and the Rams were favored by 14 and lost. According to Vegas, this is the second biggest Superbowl upset ever.
Only one superbowl besides the Joe Namath game had a more lopsided spread than this one, SF vs SD where SF was favored by 18.5 and won by 23.
The 3 things I like the most about this game were Brady casually putting his arm up and the ball bouncing right into his hand on that last spike, Lonie Paxton running into the end zone and doing a snow angel and the casual, almost nonchalant delivery of the last play by Pat Summerall.
It's funny because he did a snow angel in the playoffs against the raiders during the divisional round while it snowed heavily. I guess he decided to do it even when there isn't snow.
Don't forget the zebras letting the clock run down to 0:00 even though the ball went through the goal posts with three seconds left.
@@OBESPRING1982same thing happened during the Pats first loss in Super Bowl XLII. They ran the clock out and then put one second back on the clock

It happened a few months after 9/11! I never forgot when they announced that they would not introduce the individual's name. They came out as a team! It was fitting for everything to honor the firemen out there, especially in NYC!
Holy s*** that was amazing Tom Brady's first touchdown pass 2 number 86 receiver David Patten when he jumped over the defender and caught a crazy pass from Tom that was Tom Brady's first and best touchdown pass at the Super Bowl

R.I.P to the legend John Madden🕊
One thing you can't deny is that all 7 of the Super Bowls that Brady has played in can easily all rank in the top 10 super bowls of all time. Pure entertainment is every single one.
As much as Tom Brady and Adam Vinateri deserve some credit for winning this game, that Patriots defense seriously deserves over 80% of the credit. Taking on one of the all time greatest, most potent, powerful offenses ever to have played in the NFL. They prepared so much and worked SO HARD to get there, and they did it, they won. And they deserved it.
Teddy Bruschi, Ty Law, Tebucky Jones, Willie McGinest, Mike Vrabel, Lawyer Milloy, Richard Seymour.... Together, they were nearly unstoppable.
Too bad they still don't get the credit they deserve. Neither does Drew Bledsoe. Especially here in New England. He certainly doesn't get a ton of credit because once Tom Brady stepped up, Bledsoe was all but forgotten about and tossed aside. He was an amazing QB in his prime. That's for damn sure.

A 24 year old Brady he was definitely more on the “game manager” side in this Super Bowl but his composure this early into his career is what’s made him the goat we see to this day
sounds like what mac is right now
I'm just here to say that the Patriots are SUPER BOWL 53 CHAMPIONS !!! What a dynasty .. Tom Brady really is AMAZING
Realistically, this is by far the most impressive win of Tom and the Bill's careers. The two best teams the Patriots beat that season were the 11-5 Dolphins and 10-6 Jets. They lost to both teams as well, and the only great team they played in the regular season were these Rams. They lost. 9 of their 11 wins were against very bad teams, so the fact that the Patriots took down a 14-2 experienced St Louis Rans team with the MVP at QB, is remarkable.
Tom's second year he drives down the field against the best team in the NFL at the time, with John Madden saying over and over I don't agree with this. Wins the game, instant hero, starts the path to GOAT. Being a patriots fan is so good haha, could be 6 points down with 30 seconds left on the 1 and I STILL know Tom can win it for us
He is one of the legends, no question about that. But, I must point out that Brady had two chances to beat the Giants in Super Bowls with less than a minute to go, and with 80-85 yards to go, and it did not happen. And..I'd say the offenses for New England in those games were way more explosive from a personnel standpoint.
Brian - are you really going to be that kind of hater who criticizes the guy after his team lost the lead with 34 seconds to play? Against a D that was playing lights out?
And in 2011 you're talking about explosive personnel? Who was that - 33 year-old Deion Branch? BenJarvus Green-Ellis? Chad Johnson?
And again, the Patriots had the lead until there were 55 seconds left and only 1 timeout.
Did you even watch the games?
Michael, I did watch both games. The reason I said what I said is because I could have sworn that I saw someone comment that Brady could lead his team 90 yards with zero timeouts left and just under a minute against anyone. Maybe I did not read the comment correctly. But no, I will not hate on a man who is probably in my opinion a unanimous HOF'er. I think he should be, anyway.
Brian Waas You do realise he left the field with the lead thanks to him both times.... hahahaha. Don't try and downplay him ever, because there isn't any debate about anything anymore. He is by far the greatest, winningest Qb which is the most important position in the sport. TB12 = GOAT. Deal with it
You're right, of our generation, I'd say Brady is the greatest. Like I said, he should be a unanimous Hall Of Famer. But no, I will not put him as the G.O.A.T. I'd probably put Montana in there as well as Bradshaw. Shrugs shoulders. Oh, and realize is spelled R-E-A-L-I-Z-E.
I honestly can't believe no one is discussing the surface they had to play on. Man 15 years later and the difference is astonishing.
this is the first superbowl i remember watching when i was 9 yrs old. glad to see tom brady still doing work!
The Brady era is now officially over :(
But the writing was on the wall this past season, especially his final game against Dallas.
Patrick Mahomes was like 7 years old when this happened
Diet Bleach 5 inteserting enough
Diet Bleach Also Jared Goff, keep in mind that JG16 grew up in SF, home of the 49ers, and TB12 was also from SF, so you can imagine 7 year old Jared Goff be like “mwommy, the wams are that bad guys”
Diet Bleach he was actually 6
Captain Fangle *6
Who’s that?

17 years later today: a rematch! Pats vs Rams!
Tom Brady's first and possibly his last super bowl is against the Rams damn.
Keep dreaming.
you were probably right 🥵
@@patriotboy93 dreams do come true after all
haha

It's so weird watching Brady win this game and then watching him do it again in the 2020 season... It literally looks like 2 different generations because of how much the game and technology have changed. He's literally played in 3 different ERAs.
Round 2!! Here we come!
