did the tuck rule cost the Raiders the game? Absolutely Did the tuck rule prevent the Raiders from starting a dynasty? Hell no. The dynasty was killed by Al Davis, his poor drafting, and his refusal to hire a general manager.
Evan Mansfield I don't know about that. Considering his ego, AL Davis would force Jon Gruden out of the organization sooner or later. As a diehard Broncos fan that hates both the Raiders & Patriots, anybody who has a pair of eyes and watches football on a regular basis can CLEARLY tell that was a fumble. Before you people say "If you hate both teams, why are you so concerned?" Because regardless who's playing, me & many others want to see a fair game played. And realistically speaking this wasn't fair in the end.
Yet the 97 and 98 Broncos teams were playing fair when they circumvented the salary cap. Those teams, made it to back to back Super Bowls. Realistically speaking, that wasn't fair for the teams that played the Broncos those years.
My high school teammate, James Jett, scored a TD in this game. Was definitely pulling for the Raiders. Oh well. I'll settle for watching the start of a dynasty.

1:51:15 - Forget the Tuck Rule, this is the BIGGEST play of the game! Richard Seymour & Brian Cox stop Zack Crockett on 3rd & 1!
Fact. I posted the same thing before seeing your comment
RAIDERS COACH JON GRUDEN SHOULD HAVE WENT FOR IT ON 4TH & 1 WITH A QB SNEAK BY RAIDERS QB RICH GANNON WOULD'VE GOTTEN A WHOLE NEW SET OF DOWNS & THE RAIDERS WOULD HAVE GOTTEN ALL THE MOMENTUM & THE SILVER & BLACK ATTACK WOULD'VE DROVE DOWNFIELD & RAIDERS 2000 NFL 1ST ROUND DRAFT PICK 17# OVERALL KICKER SEBASTIAN JANIKOWSKI WOULD'VE KICKED THE GW FIELD GOAL. GAME OVER RAIDERS WIN & SETUP A CLASSIC RIVALRY AFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME @ THE PITTSBURGH STEELERS.
People seem to forget that Charles Woodson was eavesdropping on the Patriots sideline.
lol wtf
The Real Julian Edelman that wasn't Woodson eavesdropping, that was Eric Allen
The Real Julian Edelman Eric was on the field, like any other player, In poker is not cheating if you are to stupid to cover your cards for everyone else to see.
Yep. It was Eric Allen that was eavesdropping. I guess Allen found out what goes around, comes around.
are you julian edelman
Damn the quality looks amazing
Helps that it's uploaded by the NFL and to be fair it's 2001 and not like 1971. Broadcast quality back then isn't exactly stone age :)
It’s crazy that the Raiders lost when they practically dominated for 3 and a half quarters
They lost because they were going to win!! NFL corruption first exposed
The most iconic game in Patriots history.
2:21:09
Yeah, robbed…
A great last game for this old stadium.👍
2:21:09
It was the greatest win in the stadium’s history. That was a bad stadium, that saw a lot of bad teams. It really puts Tom Brady’s career in perspective, because Schaeffer Stadium feels like it was from ancient times.
That was a fumble.
- A Patriots fan.
Not according to the rule back then....
2:01:57 - 2:02:07 Blame the rule, not the refs or pats. All teams were playing under this rule, so now that it cost the raiders a potential win, everyone gets mad? not to mention if this was the last win for the pats, and they didn't win the superbowl, no one would be talking about this game.
I don't blame the rule or the pats, the refs are to blame for overturning a fumble with a rule that did not apply to that play.
@117159897326558619859 How did it not apply to that play? That play was literally the definition of the rule lol
Bruinsbiggestbear It is a Fumble
- Ray Lewis
Wiggins quietly had a great game
Wiggy!!! Love him on WEEI!
@@justinbosker7762 Yeah hes excellent!
Biekert
No he didn't he was clumsy and lucky

A Legend Is Born.......
That 4th and 4 is such an underrated moment. The bs tuck rule, the FG to tie it, the FG to win it. It's all great and all but that pass from Brady to Patten was truly the stars aligned in the sky.
been waiting for this for a long time. would love to see SB 38 soon.
Worst call in NFL history
Not really lol
Solomon Kessington the worst call was your profile
Carlos Williams whatever insult you just tried to make, it was horrible and please stop trying
It wasn't a bad call because that was a rule back then
Bad call because the "Rule" as written did not apply to what actually happen on that play
Look how young Bill Belichick was oh my goodness. I remember watching this game with my 15-year-old daughter and we were crazy the whole time rooting for our Patriots! This was the start of a dynasty what fun😊
Scoreboard cheating 2:21:09
Best call and best game ever. Always underrated Patriots.
Underrated???? They won six Superbowls!
Watched this with my brother in our bedroom. Window shades up lights off so we could see the snow falling down against the street lamps outside. Patriots Raiders on the other side of the room.
We both thought for sure Brady fumbled it lol.
This was really my childhood and this was 20+ years ago my god now time flies
1:56:11 In 2019: Personal foul - roughing the passer - contact to the head - 15 yard penalty - automatic first down.
Bradys clutchness was always incredible. Then he went on to have a clutch game winning drive in the superbowl vs Rams
+DeadMoNeyProductions BP Too bad he wasn't "clutch" against the Giants #18-1neverforget also Raiders got robbed
A Sad Broncos Fan 43-8
+Shock Wave626 20-18
A Sad Broncos Fan how's the playoffs????
Shock Wave626
Hows having a losing record against a team that isnt in the playoffs?
The WHOLE game! THANK YOU. I remember watching live (in Ireland) and I can't wait to watch this again.
the cbs presentation from 2001 is still better than Fox sports today.
Bill and Tom hugging after the game winning kick . When nobody had an ego and they were just a great team who only cared about winning
They still hugged. Don't listen to espn rumors
I watched this game with 20 friends upstate NY get away on a really fun Divisional Weekend. Saturday Night. The snow came down and we bet against eachother all day watching it come down that Raiders had no chance with the snow. Well, they would have won if not for a bad call!
Now I can't speak for Raiders fans, but I would THINK this was the most disheartening, all-around gut wrenching loss in their famed history..the Super Bowl in '02 was really bad, but I think this one takes the cake..
Brady running out of bounds for the 1st and talking to charlie weiss was so smooth
I was unavailable to watch this memorable game when it happened. Thank you, NFL, for posting it on UA-cam so I can experience it for the first time over 15 years after it happened!
Is it just me or is there a crap ton of great skill plays made in these frigid conditions? Alot of great kicks and catches.
Even Brady knew it was a damn fumble!
Don't blame him, blame the rule book
Deez Nutz *Refs for bad call
Under the rules at the time, it was not a fumble, precisely because he has gone to throw, held up, and not yet completed tucking the ball to his body.
Yes correct ruling. Skip to 5:10 of this video to see another example.

Rule sucked but was correctly called.
I remember watching this game when I was a kid and screaming it was a fumble seems like it was just yesterday
Oh my God. The PA was playing “In the Air Tonight” while they reviewed the Tuck Rule.
I’ve been waiting for this moment, all my life .
The 3rd & Inches stop and Larry Izzo recovering the fumbled punt was the two biggest plays that are the most forgotten plays before the play that people have been talking about all these years later.
20th anniversary! My goodness, I feel old!!!!
they said Brady is a game manager, but he threw over 300 yards and made so many clutch throws.
This is what made Tom Brady the GOAT. Congratulations on a wonderful career!

What bad call?
@@AlanStevens-hm1niscoreboard has it wrong 2:21:09
Brady knew he fumbled (or thought the play would be called a fumble) since he lifted his leg to keep Biekert from recovering the ball.
Everyone thought it was a fumble the rule wasn’t commonly called
That's rubbish. Anyone who's ever played any sport knows you react by instinct when losing control of a ball. Regardless how/why you lose control.
what the hell of hit n play by Michigan's finest Charles woodson #24 wow gr8t blitz .....
I watched this game live. Was a huge Chucky fan and got to the tuck play, they wouldn't switch the ball over forever, then they started showing the replays.. it was a pump, not a fumble. #TB12
The day golden boy was born.
Gannon was to Brady as Gannon was to Link.
For those who came just to see the Tuck rule, skip to 1:54:22
AkBIGTexS you're the GOAT

One of the best games in NFL history!
Easily the top 5 Victories in Patriots history are:
5. The 2018 AFC Championship Game
4. Super Bowl 49
3. The Tuck Rule
2. Super Bowl 36
1. Super Bowl 51
Football in a blizzard.....nothing better.
Agreed
I agree. You want the team that wins to actually earn and deserve it instead of having a game handed to them by an atrocious officiating call.
Stephen Hanft I emphatically agree man. It's like getting everything handed to you on a silver platter.
Ooo Rah.. thanks brother..
Yet the 97 and 98 Broncos teams were playing fair when they circumvented the salary cap. Those teams, made it to back to back Super Bowls. Realistically speaking, that wasn't fair for the teams that played the Broncos those years.
THE GOAT EMERGES
Montana wasn't in this one
@@jameshadfield6039 huh? 10 superbowl appearances?
It wasn't a bad call. It was a bad rule.
i remember watching this in my living room. when i still had my phillips Big screen manufactured in july 2001
this is real broadcasting, nice to talk to bill.
Crazy I didn't realize we had Jerry Rice in the tuck rule game.
My high school teammate, James Jett, scored a TD in this game. Was definitely pulling for the Raiders. Oh well. I'll settle for watching the start of a dynasty.
