I wish they’d do half the season in the current uniform and the other half in throwback uniforms. I was 10 back when this super bowl was played and growing up in Boston 6 miles from Fenway Park, of course I was A HUGE, HUGE B’s, Sox, and Pats fan!! So much nostalgia for me. I remember watching this game by myself because I lived in a house full of girls and they couldn’t have cared less about it!! anyone under the age of 30 DOESN’T REMEMBER what it was like to be a Pats fan BEFORE THE GOAT ARRIVED!!! After this year, we were SUBJECTED TO THE “Slippery” PETE CARROL!! Anyone who’s followed Pete probably knows why I refer to him as “Slippery” Pete (cough USC…..cough, cough). I look back and realize how fortunate I am to have been born and raised in Boston!! I mean I grew up 6 miles from Fenway Park and around the same distance from the Garden/Fleetcenter!! I never thought of it as out of the ordinary until I graduated from high school and went to the military. It’s amazing to think it’s been almost 20 years since then!! So much has happened, especially sports wise. Growing up I saw ONE championship and that was when I was 18 and the Sox FINALLY WON THE WORLD SERIES!!! Madden and Summerall’s voices bring me back to a much simpler and BETTER TIME!

In hindsight this was a Patriots roster and coaching staff filled with talented people. The staff had a HOF head coach in Parcells, future HOF in Asst HC Belichick, Romeo Crennel and Dante Scarnecchia as defensive assistants. Bledsoe was a damn good QB for his generation, Curtis Martin is a HOF RB, Ben Coates arguably should be in the HOF, Keith Byers was a stud for many years, WR Troy Brown was Mr. Everything, should be HOF in OT Bruce Armstrong then Bruschi, McGinnest, Chris Slade, Ty Law, Lawyer Milloy, Larry Wigham on D and K Adam Vinatieri. The whole Kraft/Parcells feud certainly did not help their cause leading up to the Super Bowl. Neither did a loaded Packers team...

Also, some of those interceptions were in the hands of Patriots receivers.
That combined with Max Lane not being able to hold up against Reggie White.. it was much harder for Drew to win against Green Bay's defense than it was for Brett Favre to throw on a horrible defensive back like a washed Otis "my man" Smith.

The Patriots actually played the Packers pretty even, except for the 54 yard TD to Rison, the 81 yard TD to Freeman, and the Howard kickoff return TD. Three plays. The Packers dominated most teams from down to down throughout the year playing very few close games. This time the opposition was ready for them, but the Packers proved they had the quality to overcome you even if you did just about everything right. The Pats did just about all you could have asked them to do, but this Packer team blew them away anyways. One of the greatest teams to ever play in my opinion was this 1996 Packers team. That first touchdown was a play called "322 Y-Stick." Initially, that is a play designed to be a pass to the tight end. Favre called an audible known as "Black 74 Dino" which kept Mark Chmura in as a blocker. Believe it or not, Antonio Freeman and Andre Rison switched positions on the field. Rison was initially the wide out, and Freeman was the slot man, when they switched, there was great awareness by Rison, who ran a post route from the slot position, and that was the proper route. But the overall execution by Green Bay on that play was just fantastic, and that is why they were able to jump out to that 7-0 lead.

The Patriots put up a great fight until that 99 yard kick return.

Yeah. The Patriots had zero corners whatsoever. Glad to see how much better Milloy got afterwards. I feel that most of the people on this roster that were there in 2001-2002 learned so much from this experience. Eventually the team had a strong defense base, typical of the Parcell's tree.

The Patriots had a terrible game plan ... they should have ran Curtis Martin 30 times but put the game in the hands of Bledsoe who threw four interceptions.

@Brian Wolf - the Pats D shut them out in the 2nd half but the offense and that kick return killed us. I was sitting near Lawyer Milloy's family - not far from the roof of the Superdome!

One of the first games I remember watching! Great back and forth scoring in the first half; Favre really puts on a show in the passing game. And as always, awesome commentation from Madden. What more could you want from a superbowl?
