Matthew and everyone else easy way to get top ɓolt off 3 bolt ford 3/8 6" extension 1/4 -3/8 adapter use short 6 sided 13mm take the top bolt off first you will be amazed I've been called out by at least 10 people or more that normally change there on starter but that top bolt gets almost everyone
You remove the ground, and then put it on last. The reason is that the entire car's body acts as one continuous ground creating a circuit loop, meaning if you attach the positive terminal last, you risk shorting out sensitive electronics as they operate in mere millivolts of current
As for the cables all ya gotta do is cut open an aluminum can and put water in it… dip the ends in and pow! No more corrosion… it’s called electrolysis

The old ford 3 bolt. Ive seen them where it goes thru bellhousing and threads into starter instead of other way around like normal

FYI you can use petroleum jelly on battery terminals to keep from corroding.
On these older fords you got to use oem starters that will last 10-15 years versus auto parts stores you’ll be changing it every few years.

Warm water and baking soda or coca cola will clean battery terminals don't get it in the cells .
on any ford truck always carry 8,10,12 and the random 13,15mm

what happens when the starter has to be replaced again with a sodder joint? i would of just taken that off and kept the harness uncut
Yeah that pigtail is there as a courtesy not as something that must be done...
My stepdaughter car did the same darn thing two starters later and two batteries later and it's a chevy and it ended up being the ignition switch.
The only way to get it home was changing out the starter and the battery and the alternator

I found for corroded terminals, if you put some petroleum jelly on them, after you clean them, they won’t corrode anymore.
I just use a film of grease but same principle
