    Thank you so much for this video and including the type and size socket. I am a 51yr old women and it only took me 20mins to change the sensor. Dodge was charging way to much and COVID-19 has me doing a lot of things myself. I’m definitely checking back for more do it yourself car videos. 👍🏾😁😁😁

    Just came to give a big thumbs up and thank you for the clear instruction. I was able to successfully replace the sensor on my T&C 2013 and saved $400+. Removing the battery helped me to see exactly what was going on and gave a little extra room so I think that extra step was well worth the time. 👍

    4 years and 5 months later, this video is still helping :) .. Just replaced the sensor on my 2014 Grand Caravan, and apart from a tiny amount of swearing when trying to get the sensor out and in past the cables and hoses, it worked like a charm.. Thanks for making this video, it was a great help!

    Thanks for posting this video. The video was so much help. I'm a 63 yr old woman and I was able to do most all of the replacement myself, even through I'm only 5'4". The extra sockets we had issues with due to the 13200 and the 13250 Oil Pressure Switch Sockets from O'Reilly would use spin around in the socket extension. My husband ended up having to search for a shorter = fatter extension to seat properly inside the special sockets due to how short the head of the special sockets are. It's a bit of work to stretch into the engine area to reach under the hoses. I went by mostly feel due to not being able to see that part of the engine with a light. A great tip my husband gave me was to start the seating of the threads of the oil pressure switch counter-clockwise until you hear the thread click or feel it dip into - seat into the first groove of the hole's threads, then slowly turn clockwise so the threads catch properly. It worked like a charm for me. Saved me $300 from taking it into Midas. They wanted over $400 to fix. I even told them about your short cut and they where unwilling to do that.

    You sir must be a contortionist, I'm struggling to put the new sensor in place. No luck so far. Still fooling with it. (Update - I finally got it to go in mostly - issues were preventing it from seating the whole way. The Teflon tape applied by the parts store - to much - and the adjacent hose clamp. Hopefully my experience with those issue will help someone else. Code cleared without OBDII once vehicle switched on. I'm not a mechanic just a DIY'er. I would like to thank you for posting this video and making it possible for DIY'ers to complete this repair at home. Cost of repair $44.93 for the part and $9.62 for the socket which makes for a grand total of $54.55. Far less than having a shop do it and if I can do it, most anyone can do it.)

    I am an automotive technician that is self-employed and performs mobile automotive repairs. I gave a quote for this job not knowing that the OPSU was under the intake. On the day of the mobile appointment, I researched what I would need to do to change it. I almost pooped myself... The whole intake manifold!??! Why on earth would any manufacturer put the OPSU under the intake?! Well, I stumbled upon your video and just wanted to say THANK YOU. Thanks for the good description and the good camera angles. I probably would have figured this out once I arrived on-site, but seeing this vid first gave me the confidence when I arrived in the field to replace it accurately, quickly, and correctly. You rock!

    My 2013 Dodge Journey with 70k miles check engine light came on so I stopped by AutoZone to get a read on it and it was the oil pressure sensor. Just moved to the area so was trying to find an honest mechanic. 2 days later I lost all power driving down the road. Luckily I was able to make it to a side road. Got towed to the local Stealer and he hit me up for $1100. Said they diagnosed it and it was my alternator. He or the paperwork mentioned anything about a sensor. Sure enough 3 days later check engine light is on and the stealer is claiming they weren't authorized to fix anything else and would have to charge me another $150 to re diagnose the car. My response was "you wanna kiss my what?"
    I say all of this to say, Thanks for the video. While I don't have tools and I don't work on my car personally, it's nice knowing how things work and what it takes to fix it. I'm a new subscriber and because your video is short, to the point and in laymen's terms I think just learn a thing or two from you. Keep up the good work!

    I was skeptical when I first watched the video. Check engine came up. Threw P0520 code. Watched this among other videos. Just take your time and even the longer socket works fine. I just used two small extensions and spacing was not an issue. Definitely made it easier to see and work with battery out. Went ahead and changed out oil filter and air filter while I waited for hour cure on copper sealant. My sensor did not come with sealant pre-applied. Only thing I could not get done was draining the oil pan and changing the oil. Plug stuck and actually split my socket. Thanks for the tip, it worked like a charm. I started it up and engine light went off immediately!

    I haven't worked on a car for about 20 years. I'm 63 years old. My check engine light came on so I went to a firestone shop to check the code. They told me it was P0520 oil pressure sensor. They wanted $100 to diagnose then about $300 to change the sensor. I thought that was ridiculous. So I bought the part and a socket for it for $40 online and two days later l followed this video. 22 minutes later (15 of which was getting the part started by hand) I was starting the engine and the light stayed out. What a savings.

    Very good shortcut to fixing that saved a ton of time and money at the shop. Apparently the official instructions for mechanics is to remove the intake manifold (unnecessary). The space is very tight, but I was able to change it out in about 30 minutes with a regular 1 1/16" deep socket with a Kleenex stuffed in the bottom of the socket to take up the excess room + a 6" extension on the socket. I didn't have to unhook anything else and didn't have to remove the battery, unless possibly it might enable you to see a bit of what you are doing?
    Had to unhook the battery and held the wires together for 2 minutes or so to get the error code/engine light to erase.
    I am definitely a new subscriber with this useful video.

    This video was a great help. Other videos say remove the upper section of the motor, i.e. air intake system, intake manifold that would be a job in itself. Follow the instructions in this video and you will be able to do this repair yourself. I am a 68 year old male. I consider myself mechanically inclined. The hardest part of the job for me was lining up the treads of the new part to the hole in the block due to the lack of room to move my fingers. The person in the video does an excellent job explaining the procedure. I'm not sure where this shop is but if was in the Boston area he would be my mechanic. note: 1-1/16" is the socket size. Part was $49.00 at Advanced Auto.

    Wow I just had an auto shop tell me that they were going to charge us $500 for a "deep diagnostic" whatever that is?? Then depending on the damage it would be $2500-$3000 in repairs. Also it would take a week to repair. I guess maybe because I'm female they think I'm an idiot. I'm going to have my brother take a look at it see if he can pull this off and start from there. If it does end being just the sensor I'm going to be really ticked at that auto shop for trying to take advantage of me and my elderly Dad. Thank you so much for your video, saved lots of time and money! The only issue many of us are running into, is finding the proper socket. Went to all the auto shops, O'Reily's, Auto Zone, Advanced Auto, Amazon, Nappa, even Snap-On dealer. All of the "oil pressure switch sockets" I have found, were too small, the sensor did not fit inside socket. I am a machinist by trade, and can tell you the 1 1/16 hex was under size on all these sockets I had looked at. I finally had to buy a Craftsman 1 1/16th deep well and turn down the outside diameter at the drive end to .900, making this socket usable. Your video is priceless info, thanks again! But buyer beware, bring your oil pressure sensor with you as you need to be sure that if will fit inside the socket, and get the shorter version if available! You can do this, just need the proper tool...

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  7 років тому

      I have learned that the shorter versions are the best. The sensor will not fully seat but it will be enough to grab ahold of the sensor to back it off. You are correct as well to make sure to take the replacement sensor with you to match it up to be certain. The OEM uses a special socket....some aftermarkets dont. So keep it in mind when it comes time to find the tools. Thanks again for the info and make sure to subscribe!

      When you say drive end, you are referring to the side connecting to the ratchet (or extensions), correct? And as far as grinding it down, would using benchtop grinder work best? And how much to grind (as far as up/down the socket... say 1")? Thanks in advance. Same situation where I cannot find the right socket and I now have one I can sacrifice to the grinder to get the job done.

    Great vid. I was able to do it without removing battery. One thing that helped me putting it back in is I used a piece of hose about half inch diameter and 8 inches long. I straightened it first in hot watter so when I turned it would rotate without wobbling. Stuck it in the connecter end of the unit so now I could twist unit to get it started and see at the same time see where to place it. Once I was able to turn it a couple of threads I pulled it off and attached the socket and finished tightening. Thanks for the detailed video. They wanted $300 to do the job. I took about an hour. Could do it again in half the time.

    Hi - great video - many thanks. My new 2014 Grand Caravan sensor went out and due to the miserable dealer in Rockland it stayed that way for several years... Well, vehicle inspection is overdue (oops) and the cost estimates are $669 and $811 from two shops (a couple of miles apart). Picked up a sensor from Autozone but the socket I have is a tad too long. Autozone says they got the shorter one - they lied. Went to Harborfreight and picked up the sensor socket kit. It took a little time, about 1 hour and having midwife fingers, I got the new sensor installed. Pulled the battery to clear the computer - all looks well, now need a few miles to get the computer readiness system to work. Many thanks.

    AMAZING VIDEO....sadly everyone else neglected to include the hardest part....'who to get the connector unplugged'...bro you saved me hours.
    BTW...all my local part stores were fresh out sold out of the special sensor socket...but, they did have a deep 12 point 1 1/16" thin wall socket (not impact)...I test fitted it at AutoZone and it fit...I still had to disconnect the heater hose from the aluminum manifold to twist it to the right out of the way..then wiggle/turn the socket while firmly pushing until it clicks in place...with a little Good Luck and/or answered prayers...she will come right out.
    Then to install the new one..i stuck mine into a 4" long 3/4" piece of heater hose. I cut 2 slits on the end to get the connector to go in straight...this will greatly aid in threading the sensor back in as it is Recessed deep. This hose trick also works well on threading difficult to reach spark plugs..

    Just did 2011 Town & Country Limited 2WD 3.6L FI FFV DOHC 6cyl. I took out my battery which made access much easier. The connector took some patience - just depress the tab and wiggle, wiggle, wiggle. Then I made the job MUCH harder by trying to do it without pulling the hose that is snuggled up against the sensor. Pull the hose first, leak a little coolant, and make the job a 10 minute one rather than the hour I spent. You'll probably need some long reaching pliers of some sort to get the hose-clamp off.

No trouble removing the sensor from a very tight area on my 2013 GC SXT, 3.6 VVT engine. Much swearing on trying to get the new one in that spot. Both tops of my hands are very bruised and purple, but I finally got it started in by using the socket and extension with only my fingers to tighten, then snugged with the handle. As a former mechanic and now engineer, I applaud your videos. You do a killer job. BTW, what about the oil cooler/filter assembly causes the leak that so many people have experienced with the 3.6L? Is it the plastic around the sending unit that cracks?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  8 років тому +1

      +Harmsown I have to think its where the halves of the assembly are joined. Then again its hard to tell because you cant check it while its running because its buried under the intake and plus when it leaks....it accumulates about 2 inches of oil under the assembly that hides any possible locations/sources as well. Perfect, took out the battery to get some more room and the rigid hose corner to corner over the intake manifold. I used the short sensor socket, a swivel and a long extension (12"), got my hands out of the area. note the short socket with the plastic connector against the inside, didn't let me lock the swivel into the square drive, so it just held it in place. I cant see why the taller socket wouldn't work, for what it's worth. Thanks for the help, keep it up, 2011 VW Routan same as T&C

    • @MotorCityMechanic

      Edgar Vollenweider What I have seen is that the taller socket won't go on straight and ends up at an angle and becomes hard to get on because of the trans bell housing. The belt sliding off was usually one of two things....driving thru water or the tensioner would start leaning. First thing, great video! I'm currently taking automotive tech and will soon start working at a shop. My issue is my 2014 town and country has been ticking lately. Some times it's just at cold start and sometimes it's all day. Now today I got this p0520 code. Was thinking about changing the oil to a higher viscosity or going synthetic. I have just about 95k on it right now.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  7 років тому +1

      Thanks for the question and its cool to see a future tech watching these videos. The noise and the code may not be related. The P0520 is most likely electrical and that points towards a possible oil pressure sensor. That would be the first place I would start and then clear the code. As far as the noise.....you will need for the noise to be constant and then try listening the best you can to see if you can narrow down which head it might be coming from. Then the upper intake and valve cover will need to be removed and then the valve powertrain inspected to see if a cam lobe damage and bad roller rocker possibly. Those are the most common causes for noise on these engines. Thanks again for watching the video and make sure to subscribe.

      I recommend removing the air filter box on that vehicle. Otherwise it will be alot easier then removing the upper intake....it wont be the easiest thing but certainly do-able.

      The right side will be different. The front timing cover will need to be removed due to where the chain tensioner is located. That main also mean oil pan removal depending on which vehicle inorder to get to the lower timing cover bolts. I havent had to remove that side head yet so I guess I have been lucky. Thanks Danny for asking and for using my videos to take on your repairs

    A little ridiculous this video has 49K views. They really should do a recall to fix this part. At least it looks like a super easy fix. Thanks for the video. Will use your link to show my support on my next purchase.

      When it comes to recalls....the items that the government goes after are safety related. Which means no oil pressure sensor recalls in the near future unless it was leaking and could cause a fire for example. Wish it was the other way around. Thanks for the support and for following the channel! Always appreciated Nick!

    Hi David,
    My 2012 VW Routan with the 3.6 Pentastar motor threw a P06DA trouble code. I found you while searching for a fix to this code. I assumed that replacing the Oil Pressure Sending Unit would clear the code, but after almost 200 miles and a week of driving it hasn't cleared. Was I headed in the right direction replacing the sending unit? You made it super easy to find and replace the unit, so I thank you for sharing your knowlege! I subscribed to you for future repairs.

      Evening, I dont know about the VW version but the Dodge version of that year does have a software update that includes that code. It may or may not help. The other items that cause that code are the oil pump solenoid which only comes with the oil pump....PCM.....or the wiring between the of them. I would have the software checked and if needed updated. Then if still having issues....perform a good visual inspection of the wiring that leads to the oil pump connector on the right side of the block just above the only pan....its hard to see being that the right cv axle assembly is in the way. Then if nothing obvious.....I recommend replacing the oil pump. I have a video that I will be working on in the near future that shows this repair. Make sure to subscribe and keep an eye out for the up coming videos.
