@triumphmonkey50 did you watch the video? Gratification means pleasure, and it was mentioned in the video that using ‘ladders’ and avoiding ‘snakes’ does not mean you’re eliminating all forms of pleasure. Delayed gratification in this context refers to tasks that may not feel good to accomplish in the present but in the future, makes you feel amazing.
I just gotta say: This is one of the best videos you've made recently. The editing, music, and metaphors were phenomenal for creating a call to action for me personally, and I'm guessing this resonated with a lot of other people as well. I've been putting in a lot of hard work and effort over the last six months in several areas of my life, and being able to tap into that feeling of power from time to time and think that this effort is worthwhile meant a lot.
I try to feel powerful everyday. However, I’m a human being and sometimes we have some ups and downs. I think, it’s life… same as happiness. We just have to live the moment and look forward. Feels good to wait for something that is worth it. The sensation off satisfaction is unique 👍🏼
This video came right when I needed this. I had a break-up yesterday, from a toxic relationship. And I'm coming to the realisation that while this phase is difficult, the key to get out of it is to focus on the ladders and stay away from the snakes. I'm trying to rebuild myself now, to feel powerful again.
This came at a great time. I’m going sober for the entirety of October. I just joined a gym and meal prepped for clean eating. I’ve been unemployed for the past year and I’m getting back into the work force ASAP. I’m doing this because I’m a musician with an album coming out soon and I’ve put so much work into it and it’s something I’m proud of but it is literally the only good thing in my life and everything else around it is rotten. Wish me luck!
I'd love to hear the album man I've been wanting to introduce myself into music. If you have the time would you like to share how you started getting into music composition? If not just let me know where I could listen to it. You got this man I was a daily marijuana smoker for 5 years and I've never felt more in control of my life since I quit!
It's ironic - ha ha funny - because I've been sober for several years and I've just started drinking again because my mental health has taken a hit. I plan on being drunk for the entirety of October. Good luck to you though. I do hope you make it. I know I won't.
To no end can I thank you. You always seem to pop up in my feed when I most need it. As I work on studying Psychology, I remember who I could be and what you have taught me. To that end, I hope to bring the same comfort to others one day :)

I used my leg I broke and I could feel my rod and it feeling tight andit felt worn out. And now I'm hearing about how they're a waste of energy. It's kind of an interesting dilemma. I sort of feel like us anxious people, feeling such constant anxiety, can't even fully understand the concept of not always being a certain way. Like, obviously everyone suffer from some degree positive and negative emotions, and even the worst-case people are not anxious literally 100% of the time, but it really has to do with brain connections. Imagine it's your birthday, and all of your friends come over to spend time with you. Where the average person would be happy and excited to see all their friends, an anxious person might be more aware of just how many people are there, and it makes it hard to be happy when you feel crowded by people who should make you happy, especially when you start to feel bad that you aren't having fun at your own party, and you hope people can't tell that you don't want them to be there, because deep down you really do... It's not just as simple as "notice bad thought - replace bad thought", although that can help and does help me personally, but it's literally a disconnect of desire. You as a person want something, but the response your brain is telling you to have does not match the response you feel you want. It can cause a lot of self-worth issues, and I feel like a lot of people don't even fully recognize the actual issue.
Well said. I relate to this so much. It makes me feel like I’m not on the same wavelength as anybody, like I’m not centered or grounded. Everybody else is “there” in the moment, and I’m “here” stuck inside my anxious mind. It’s like I’m on a different plane or something. And because I can’t connect, it ramps up the anxiety even more and I just want to get out of there. Friends that I could know VERY well in one on one interactions are unrecognizable to me in groups. “The group” takes on its own single shape, and it feels over powering. Also, in groups there’s danger present…like being at the bottom of the totem pole, or being disrespected and shamed in front of everyone, or being targeted and picked on. These threats don’t exist one on one. But in groups I’m a nervous wreck.

I felt powerful when I truly put my faith in mediocrity. To practice mediocrity is also to practice consistency because you can’t be mediocre once. You have to try to be mediocre constantly. When you allow yourself to practice mediocrity, you understand that what you have going on will never be finished but that you always have more time to try and try again. In my journey - I’ve had to overhaul how I approach work/habits by practising mediocre consistency. Now I try to put in consistent 50-60% effort into my habits (ex. journaling/working out) - to make sure I do it I began recording it and posting it on my youtube channel. Because historically I have a habit of going too hard, not being able to sustain the Herculean effort, giving up and hating myself. So now I’m trying to give a small, consistent mediocre effort everyday. And thats when I truly flt powerful because for the first time I started seeing results.
Oof wow, same with me! I take the approach to get something done every day on my projects. Rather than think I can just power through it, and most of that i feel is a side effect of comparing yourself to others.
I don't really like the sound of the word mediocrity, but I absolutely get where you're coming from. Most important I think is that you enjoy the process. Sometimes there are these moments where you feel 'powerful' and can go on, but it's not sustainable in my experience. (Even just for the fact that 'other things' also need to be done)

8:35 is a simple lesson that I'm trying to reinforce in my life. I'm 25 years old, I have graduated college, have a great career, and made changes in my daily life that gave me the ability to lose weight 70 pounds and be able to run a 10k run with others; I still have poisons I know I need to improve on. I've wasted so much time in my life on simple thrills, I still do and I probably will still do to some degree, but having realized it and made changes, I'm mitigating them more and more. I always have the mindset of "I don't have enough time for this to be productive", it's a toxic mindset that results in nothing ever being done when it could be. I'm trying to change that, use every moment I can (I'm not perfect, I don't follow this but I try). If it's actually important to me, I'll make time for it.
This is the Video needed so much! I really do like gaming but so many times after playing LoL or CS I felt like I had eaten junk food because I was excited before, felt good while doing it and regretted it afterwards and had so many thoughts about what I could have done with that time ( learning a different language, read a book, hit the gym) which are all things that made me feel good even afterwards. That is truly feeling powerful. To resist the quick desires and know that some things are good for you even if your brains has some doubts and try to lure you into doing Snake-things. Thank you very much!
Personally, this video lined up with my very heavily crossfaded mental journey tonight. Excellent cinematography, literacy, and abstract conceptualizations

I just want you to know that it takes a lot for me to engage in a video and I don't know why. Your videos have helped me with certain situations that may have gone worse for a few years now. I greatly appreciate it all.
Last time I felt powerfull was few days ago when we had a biology test, all people in my classroom were stressed out while I was chill and just sat down in one corner and didnt do anything. One of my classmates came to me and asked me why was I soo calm and unbothered, that gave me even more confidence and peace before the test. Absoulutely insane feeling
I love the end and it is so true. I listen to self help videos to get better. It's a struggle to keep with it, but I put on my headphones and listen to videos like this in the background while I write out vocab words or clean my computer desk. Someday I will have a channel and I'll want people to subscribe just to know my word is spreading. It's selfish, but not ashamed to admit it and I respect that.
That was a nice video. Thank you Joey. Really pleasurable to watch, you really can produce your videos well, those skillshare lessons were worth it hehe
4:48 I know you were half-joking but that pop quiz was one of the most eye opening statements I've heard in my life. I used to think that ladders were "bad" and I answered "SNAKE!" to the delicious stew. This whole video's approach on how doing meaningful work doesn't HAVE to be a soul-destroying slog rlly helped change how I feel about "ladders". Also I really liked your take on why staring at someone in the gym is bad. We all know it's bad but you really broke it down to the core and that was a new take for me. You're right, all it does is remind the person of what they don't have, which in turn makes them even more resentful. It makes so much sense! Thank you for the great video Thank you for your great head shape You are a glorious gigachad Better Ideas
Ya know this is probably like the second or third videos of urs that i have watched even tho i've been subbed for a fair bit of time now, not because ur content is bad by any means but i think it was because i was in a perpetual state of lying to myself u could say. What i mean by that is that i was lying to myself by saying that i'm stupid (which i'm tbh but i told it to myself in a way that meant that i would amount to nothing basically) that i'm this and that. But, for sometime now after i decreased my social media consumption (not youtube still working on it) and got a mental reset and thought more about what my downfalls are. I began noticing that theres a LOT i could do to improve my life and this video clarified that a lot actually. Now i dont think that my life will improve right away or that it will even ever will but aye at least i will try to be better.
This is just about making me cry. It all makes sense. I just don't how or where to start. That's kinda always been my problem but I've never felt more lost in life than I do right now and I don't know how to get moving in the direction you're talking about.
This type of thinking made me give up Instagram and never look back. This video lays out the thinking behind it so well and gives me the tools to replicate it in other parts of life.
Power is a complex subject and multi faceted. Some want money to feel powerful. Makes you wonder why people who’ve reached a high level in their profession, where their ego gets in the way and they become corrupt. The key is staying grounded, so you stay on the good path.

The idea of explaining this problem with just sneak and ladder is just so interesting and a solution in just two words.
That was a nice video. Thank you Joey. Really pleasurable to watch, you really can produce your videos well, those skillshare lessons were worth it hehe
This is a really good thought out video. Most of these self improvement self help vids are just same thing over again this is a new mental concept
Thanks for the videos
Thank you for the great video
Thank you for your great head shape
You are a glorious gigachad Better Ideas
Shit, almost cried. Wholesome content! Thanks for helping!
Have enjoyed your videos for a few years now. Appreciate the quality and inspiration to better Folks. 👍
Thank you. I needed to hear this.
I love all of your videos, but this one...this one is fantastic.
Amazingly greatly written!
Man, thanks be to God that there's a content like this... Thank you very much Sir 💪❤️😁
Great timing for me. Thank you.
I love your analogies. Make a series on snakes and ladder analogies!
This is a great analogy. Thanks for sharing!
R.I.P.! 😥😥
Congrats on 2 million!!
This is just about making me cry. It all makes sense. I just don't how or where to start. That's kinda always been my problem but I've never felt more lost in life than I do right now and I don't know how to get moving in the direction you're talking about.
Nailed it. Good stuff Joey!
