Entertainment can be really inspiring, especially when it's not trying to moralize or shove lessons down our throats too much and just tries to tell a good story first and foremost.

The Trueman Show with Jim Carrey is another one of his that has a powerful message of seeing beyond what we believe our lives to be to live our truths.
It’s actually a very solid film. I feel that it’s especially strong because it initially presents being more open to things as a positive trait, but it can easily lead to you becoming too careless and spontaneous as a result. It’s all down to balance; you should always try to broaden your horizons but also find some measure of stability and consistency so that you don’t end up ruining yourself.
I 100% agree with “Crazy, Stupid, Love” on this list. It was a jumping point for me to figure out how to show confidence and dress better. It also showed me how to break away from a VERY bad rut after a breakup that had a huge impact on my life. Great movie!
Catch me if you can (2002) Groundhog Day (1993) Limitless (2011) Fight Club (1999) The Way Way Back (2013) The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) Crazy, Stupid, Love. (2011) Elf (2003)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button to this day is the most inspired movie for me. Really made me think about the trajectory of our lives and the decisions we make. How people who start off as complete strangers end up having such a huge impact on who we are today. How at times, we have complete control and at times, we have zero control of our lives and we just need to find the balance between the two. How, where we are today is a result of what we did a year ago. Where we will land a year from now will be the result of what we do today. The quote from the film that has always stayed with me is: “For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. And If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again”.
"Never too late" is a bit pie in the sky. Good luck if you decide at age 80 to become an Olympic Gold Medal sprinter. Or for a woman to decide to give birth at 70.
Fight club makes me realize that we don't really need that much things in our life, chasing those while slaving our ass off. And also makes me realize the necessity to became strong as men.

Hello Joey, there's something great in suggesting movies and explaining them through the lense of self improvement. You made me go back and rewatch some of them to gain your perspective on things. I would love to see more of your suggestions. Voting for Part 2 on this video :)
I liked this video a lot. You sold me on wanting to watch a lot of these movies, I’m always interested in watching something with a deeper theme rather than shallower copy & paste stories. If you continue this series, I would definitely be interested.
Sam Rockwell deserved an Oscar for "The Way Way Back". Low-key absolutely rewatchable classic. A case study in the family dynamic, from a funny and poignant angle.
I would also add Little Miss Sunshine to this list. I watch that movie whenever I need a big emotional pick-me-up. It's absolutely brilliant, especially from the second half where all the characters start to grow, and then when it ends with them dancing together it's just magical. It reminds you to enjoy the little things in life and to find that joy in what really matters, not in what we perceive that matters. I personally think it's Steve Carrell's best role, and that's saying something.
I have a hard time with the final act of that movie because of the beauty pageant. Seeing all those young girls paraded around like that just felt gross. I honestly don’t understand how child pageants are a real thing. The whole idea just seems so icky.
Yes!!! I absolutely adore the deep layers of this film. Mainly about the unfairness in life, how's everyone has their own limits and starting points and you shouldn't make your life a beauty contest against others. It's also very much about healthy realitionship with failures and how to heal from them & finding comfort. It's also extremely fun to watch, it's kinda harsh theme doesn't make the film heavy - it's funny, heartwarming, has great characters and dynamics between them, ups & downs though all of the script. It's also an effective critic of the American hustling culture and the fakeness of it. It's also brilliantly directed - some really clever examples of the direction: the use of the stucked Van pushed by the family, the use of the horn to create stress, Dwayn's mental breakdown with him knocking his head on the Van's doors, the shot of Dwayn's run down from the van with his scream with the family watching him from the above. The use of the beauty contest metaphor, the final dancing scene. The attention to little details. It's just went over most people's heads Personally, it's my favorite movie and the standard of what i believe films should aspire to be
Although there are universal applications, these 8 movies are all about men and their life journey. if anyone is interested in what I consider the female complementary list : 1) He’s just not that into you 2) Second act 3) Legally blonde 4) The assistant 5) Bombshell. 6) My best friend’s wedding 7) Pretty woman 8) Erin Brockovich.
Decided to watch Groundhog Day, since you have mentioned it a couple of times before. It was a delight! I have put every single one of the movies recommended by you in here on my list (yes, even Elf...)! Some I have watched before, and I will give them a watch again, to see if I can get a new perspective on things. I vote YES for you to continue the series, as I am sure the people would love to see what made you improve your life this way, as I am eager to learn if I can do so too. Stay notable, Joey!
Elf is so good because it's all about never losing the wonder and excitement that we had as kids - yes it's silly and childish but it's all about someone who's jaded looking at someone who is excited by everything he sees and it's a great message about not losing that childhood wonder in your life
Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind has to be mentioned. It is a great representation on an up and down relationship adding value to your life and trying to avoid the consequences will make you realize the value of any relationship you have in life good or bad!
Films that improved my life include: Dead Poets Society, Fight Club, Before Sunset/Sunrise/Midnight, Lady Bird, Blues Brothers, and Lost in Translation. The Before trilogy taught me that when it comes to love and relationships, it's about wanting to make them work and that if it's meant to be you and that person will naturally find your way back to that person.
@@ver_nick if you say like that yeah it is positive. But I remember shipping them from the start of the movie and then at the end all of the "love" was just one sided and not true for her. Zooey Deschanel since then still gives that kind of "unapproachable" vibe to me.
My list are 1. Groundhog Day 2. Shawshank Redemption 3. Rudy (1993) 4. Pursuit of HappyNess 5. The count of MonteCristo 6. Les Misérables (With Liam Neeson ) 7. What about Bob 8. A Beautiful Mind 9. Good Will Hunting 10. Jerry Maguire
This movies are also good for mental health(1 nd 2) and realization of reality(last 2) lawranace of arabia little forest Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring The Irishman
Yeah, please make another one somewhere in the future about these 8 other movies. So far I watched Fight Club, Limitless and Groundhog day since I say your video. So far out of these movies, groundhog day was the one that had an immediate impact on me and my life since the very moment I watched it. That same day I suddenly had a whole new perspective on how I live my life each day, I had a much longer conversation with my grandad who called me, I just started appreciating so much more, listening to totally different music. All in day one. I felt like I'm in a loop, so I might as well get the kick out of it as much as I can. I am going to watch the rest five movies you mentioned. I hope you'll make a second part somewhere in the future. Take care
See, watching Elf changes your life in that the people who like it no longer go: *'OMG YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT?!? HOW HAVE YOU NOT SEEN IT?!?!? You HAVE to watch it!!!! IT'S AMAZINGGGG'*
8 movies that will inspire you to be more masculine. Shame that no female led movies made this list. List for women: Erin Brockovich. G.I.Jane. Legally Blonde. Hidden Figures. Brave. Matilda. Veronica Guerin. Beyond Borders.
A movie that changed my perspective on things is Stranger than Fiction. The idea that you can break out of the mundane if you just look around and make the most of your time. It taught me to be flexible and accept kindness a little more freely. Another was Persepolis - it taught me about the dangers and pitfalls of legalistic religious practices. Oh and almost forgot - Adventureland. Perfect coming of age film just for fun.
I would like to add "Lapland Odyssey" to that list. It's a finnish roadmovie of a loserguy, who must get a digital-reciever for his girlfriend (otherwise they breakup), and has one unexpected adventure after another. In the end he (and his 2 friends) are not the same persons anymore. This movie always motivates me to continue chasing my goals when I'm about to give up. Highly recommended!
Interesting concept. I would say that 8 movies that changed my life are: The Matrix, Ratatouille (my favorite movie of all time), Catch Me If You Can, Kung Fu Panda, Brother Bear, Over the Hedge, Long Story Short, The Pursuit of Happyness. But to be completely honest, I believe that TV shows have had a much bigger impact on me: DBZ, The Mentalist, Friends, How I Met Your Mother,... I've listed many animated movies, I know. I saw those when i was the most impressionable. I am 25 now
Along with "The Count of Monte Cristo", I have "The Shawshank Redemption" in my top 10 list of movies that have had a profound effect on my ability to maintain a positive perspective during life's challenging moments.
You mentioned the way way back!! I’m so thrilled, I randomly found it one summer, and it left me speechless. It was so poignant and spoke to the loneliness of youth and the struggles of family life. It touched me deeply, and it’s such a hidden gem.
I think "Gattaca" also fits to this topic. It changed my way of thinking about boundaries in life and how to overcome almost anything, if you work hard enough for your dreams.
One thing I feel like somebody neerds to point out: While Limitless can inspire one to look at one's life "from the outside" and find some potential for improvement and increased happiness, just like Groundhog Day, it can also serve as a gateway into toxic productivity culture and self-hatred à la "Why can't I be disciplined and perfectly focussed all the time?". So please, please take that movie with a massive lump of salt, so that it may become a positive influence, instead of a negative one like it was for many others.
The 8 that would be in my list are: Hector and the search for happiness, The secret life of Walter Mitty, About a boy, It’s kind of a funny story, Howl’s moving castle, The breakfast club, Rocky, As good as it gets
I love Steve Carell's way of being able to accurately portray character's personality development with so much emotion and accuracy without making it seem weird or like "where tf did this come from." Really underrated actor.
As a kid, I watched *Papillon* (1973) and it was AMAZING. *Watch it, Steve McQueen, Dustin Hoffman* Changed my life. They did a remake recently, of which I have no idea about. I liked many of your suggestions, and will watch more you recommended.
Great list and terrific explanations. The only one I haven't seen is Way Way Back, which I'll check out. I really like how some of your choices aren't obviously life changing (Limitless, Crazy Stupid Love, Catch Me if You Can) but you really explained well what can be gleaned from those movies as inspiration. Not so sure about Elf being in the list, but even if it doesn't motivate self-improvement, I guess it's something you need to watch anyway 😂
I went through a phase were I was kinda depressed in college and watched a ton of coming of age dramas. The Way Way Back was great. A few similar ones I'd recommend are Mud, The Spectacular Now, Place Beyond the Pines, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Mid90s, and Edge of Seventeen
Searching for Bobby Fischer with Ben Kingsley is a chess film that's entertaining to kids and adults. Also Chasing Amy for dealing with today's complicated love.
Fab, this is my Easter weekend sorted, either watching or rewatching a few of these… thank you so much for saving me from scrolling for hours and not ending up watching anything which is what usually happens!
There is a movie called 3 idiots which is considered one of India's best films. It is mega famous in India and is an extremely fun and inspiring movie (especially for students cuz the characters are college students). If you're up for some non-hollywood experience go watch 3 idiots. I saw it 15 times myself already lol.
Please continue the series. And I hope Secret Life of Walter Mitty will also be included in future lists, for me, it's like a cold shower after a long day. Thank you so much for introducing the movies Limitless and The Way Way Back
The Way Way Back is such a good coming-of-age movie! I first watched it when I was 15 and have recently rewatched it. Funny, relevant and kind of an emotional rollercoaster.
You should definitely continue the series. I've only watched Catch Me if You Can and Crazy Stupid Love out of all the 8, some of my recommendations would be: Men of Honor Rudy Pursuit of Happyness Rocky 1 A beautiful Mind Whiplash Unbroken October Sky
The list is heavily incomplete without Taxi Driver (1976). Everyone especially boys at the age of 18 should watch it. I can easily say it's the most important movie you'll ever watch.
Dude this list is so genuine I love it! No prentious films that have great scores or meta plots. Just a random list of movies that had an impact. I think people forget that lower rated/comedy films can still impact your life in a meaningful way. Also, I love all 8 of these films so that helps!
Honestly, I've been in the "self-help" scene a few years, but I've kind of fallen out of it, not because I don't like it or because i "gave up", but because I don't think there's much new to be said. But before that, and even after I've fallen from it, I keep learning through movies. Movies have taught me so many lessons, it's insane. Not all of them, sure, but some have also changed my life. So, in short, yeah, absolutely continue this video. Even if the movies you recommend are not great, simply hearing your insight on them and what they taught you is immensely interesting to me, and I know it is to others as well
There's one bit of dialogue in Jacob's Ladder that affected me in a big way. I think they used it in an Unkle song. It's about Jacob being afraid of dying and seeing Demons - but if he stops being afraid, they're angels. Basically the line is about how we are in control of how we perceive and respond to everything in our lives and it's entirely our choice. And also, I love watching Paterson to relax. So for me it's Jacob's Ladder and Paterson.
Some bangers on this list. And some I'd never heard of so that's some new (old) movies going on my watchlist - particularly interested in watching The Count of Monte Cristo, that looks awesome! Definitely up for another episode of this 👌🏼
Awesome list and a few I have never heard of but will check them out! For me, it was Lord of the Rings, and before you scroll on, hear read on. I had never read a book before, as I hated to read. When I saw the first movie in the series in the theater and ended the way it did, I was like WTF? I went and bought the book the next pay day and it opened my eyes to a whole new world and the FULL Lord of the Rings book, was the first one I had read. It also opened my eyes to creative writing and the genius of what J.R.R. Tolkien has created! ✌️
The books also give some great philosophy on how to deal with life and carry yourself, with some excellent role models, especially the interactions between Gandalf and the hobbits. There’s so much on morality, what it means to be good, what’s really important, and the role that individuals play in the face of overwhelming odds. It’s shaped my perception of life ever since childhood.
For me, this was David Copperfield. Saw the tv movie then read the book. Its all about figuring out who you are and coming to terms with your mistakes.

More spontaneous things to get out of this monotonous world I trapped myself in. Told me to look out and seek romance for myself and say yeah to it, it overall helped me.
You should read the book it's based on. That's a true story, and is also very, very funny.
The Trueman Show with Jim Carrey is another one of his that has a powerful message of seeing beyond what we believe our lives to be to live our truths.
Little shocked that "Yes, man" with Jim Carey isn't on this list! That movie changed my life!
Haha I love that movie! So underrated!
@@jackcarlos got me moving again and outside when I was depressed 15 years ago
Thruman show
It’s actually a very solid film.
@@marko6489 good one
I 100% agree with “Crazy, Stupid, Love” on this list. It was a jumping point for me to figure out how to show confidence and dress better. It also showed me how to break away from a VERY bad rut after a breakup that had a huge impact on my life. Great movie!
Catch me if you can (2002)
Groundhog Day (1993)
Limitless (2011)
Fight Club (1999)
The Way Way Back (2013)
The Count of Monte Cristo (2002)
Crazy, Stupid, Love. (2011)
Elf (2003)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button to this day is the most inspired movie for me. Really made me think about the trajectory of our lives and the decisions we make. How people who start off as complete strangers end up having such a huge impact on who we are today. How at times, we have complete control and at times, we have zero control of our lives and we just need to find the balance between the two. How, where we are today is a result of what we did a year ago. Where we will land a year from now will be the result of what we do today. The quote from the film that has always stayed with me is:
“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be.
And also makes me realize the necessity to became strong as men.
exactly, i lost my job and started boxing. Feel a lot better.

Gotta add Gattaca to this list. One of the best and most life changing movies I've ever seen.
Holy I thought I was the only one
Omfg yes some Gattaca love!!! Literally my 2nd favorite movie of all time!!!
Yes! Just watched this a couple weeks ago, absolutely mind blowing. Sci-fi can really kickstart creative thoughts about the future
Absolutely, definitely on my most favorite movie list
Absolutely
It’s only American movies, you need to watch world movies to expand your mind otherwise you will end up with a restricted POV. 😊
Elf is so a great movie! I haven’t seen The Way Way Back, so I might check that one out. This was a fun video. Definitely make another.
@@Garrus1995 I agree it's hard to watch but that's why the scene where they dance together is so good cause it's a big eff you you to the industry
I am not working for these people next year, these people are crazy
Agreed
It's just went over most people's heads
Personally, it's my favorite movie and the standard of what i believe films should aspire to be
Although there are universal applications, these 8 movies are all about men and their life journey. if anyone is interested in what I consider the female complementary list :
1) He’s just not that into you
2) Second act
3) Legally blonde
4) The assistant
5) Bombshell.
6) My best friend’s wedding
7) Pretty woman
8) Erin Brockovich.
Black swan
Decided to watch Groundhog Day, since you have mentioned it a couple of times before. It was a delight! I have put every single one of the movies recommended by you in here on my list (yes, even Elf...)! Some I have watched before, and I will give them a watch again, to see if I can get a new perspective on things. I vote YES for you to continue the series, as I am sure the people would love to see what made you improve your life this way, as I am eager to learn if I can do so too. Stay notable, Joey!
😊
The Shawshank Redemption and It's a Wonderful Life are movies that really changed my life.
Don Jon Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Groundhog Day is GOATed
I have actively daydreamed about what a groundhog day after a few thousand years of looping would look like since I first watched it years ago
@@bobobsen What conclusions did you reach? Did you love that idea or did you detest it?
One of the only movies i can think of that actually entered everyday language as a reference point.
Among the movies that changed my life are:
Requiem for A Dream
Pink Floyd - The Wall
American Beauty
and a bunch of others
You go into depression after watching first one
Elf is so good because it's all about never losing the wonder and excitement that we had as kids - yes it's silly and childish but it's all about someone who's jaded looking at someone who is excited by everything he sees and it's a great message about not losing that childhood wonder in your life
Yes, please continue this series! Also, if you have a list of FICTIONAL books along the same lines I would love to see a video like that as well 🙌🏻
Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind has to be mentioned. It is a great representation on an up and down relationship adding value to your life and trying to avoid the consequences will make you realize the value of any relationship you have in life good or bad!
Agreed. One of the best films ever
Thanks for sharing brother..
Just read "Dead pets society" and was like wth is this movie about, then I reread it
Love them all. But the Lady Bird one... get out of here!
After i saw your mention of the "before" series, I knew you knew what you were talking about. I looked them all up after that!

Where to watch this movies
Where to watch these movies
Take care
See, watching Elf changes your life in that the people who like it no longer go:
*'OMG YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT?!? HOW HAVE YOU NOT SEEN IT?!?!? You HAVE to watch it!!!! IT'S AMAZINGGGG'*
So you're 28 yrs old
American Beauty. Very profound and spiritual film. It makes you stop to smell the roses and enjoy the little details of existence way more.
The prison and priest chapter of Count of Monte Cristo is just truly amazing.
Next 8 movies please! This was a great list and will be watching some of these movies in the next few days. Thanks for the recommendations.
I am 25 now
What about How to Train Your Dragon?
@@ver_nick Didnt see it.
If you haven’t seen the series of Avatar The Last Airbender, please do. It is a masterpiece.
@@evegol4584 Is it a cartoon ?? Can I watch if I am 26 years old ?

Along with "The Count of Monte Cristo", I have "The Shawshank Redemption" in my top 10 list of movies that have had a profound effect on my ability to maintain a positive perspective during life's challenging moments.
You mentioned the way way back!! I’m so thrilled, I randomly found it one summer, and it left me speechless. It was so poignant and spoke to the loneliness of youth and the struggles of family life. It touched me deeply, and it’s such a hidden gem.
Whiplash(2014) is a movie that changed my life. Wish it was on this list!
Absolutely amazing movie
I love that movie!
I think "Gattaca" also fits to this topic. It changed my way of thinking about boundaries in life and how to overcome almost anything, if you work hard enough for your dreams.
One thing I feel like somebody neerds to point out:
While Limitless can inspire one to look at one's life "from the outside" and find some potential for improvement and increased happiness, just like Groundhog Day, it can also serve as a gateway into toxic productivity culture and self-hatred à la "Why can't I be disciplined and perfectly focussed all the time?".
So please, please take that movie with a massive lump of salt, so that it may become a positive influence, instead of a negative one like it was for many others.
Same here for me in ghd, sometimes too much positive brings negative impact in life..
Stopped halfway and watched the way way back, a wonderful movie,
Thanks for suggesting
The 8 that would be in my list are: Hector and the search for happiness, The secret life of Walter Mitty, About a boy, It’s kind of a funny story, Howl’s moving castle, The breakfast club, Rocky, As good as it gets
Crazy Stupid Love I didn't hope to see here, but it has meaning on there
Ferris Buellers day off definitely deserves a spot on the next episode of this series (which you totally should do)
Please continue with the series. Wondering how Forrest Gump didn't make it to the list.
I love Steve Carell's way of being able to accurately portray character's personality development with so much emotion and accuracy without making it seem weird or like "where tf did this come from." Really underrated actor.
Loved this style of video! 'Good Will Hunting' and 'Schindler's List' have had the greatest impact on my life.
As a kid, I watched *Papillon* (1973) and it was AMAZING. *Watch it, Steve McQueen, Dustin Hoffman* Changed my life. They did a remake recently, of which I have no idea about.
I liked many of your suggestions, and will watch more you recommended.
The book was amazing too by henri charriere. It was non-stop adventure
@@experiongallup One of the all-time greats.
I recommend reading the books these films are based on…the books always have so much more
I would love to hear the next 8 movies.
Same mate! Btw how did you use this special hand emoji? 😄
if you haven't seen it, I would absolutely recommend Dead Poet's Society and add it to this list!
Seen all of those bro. Great movies! Somewhat of my favourite genre too.
Hey, don’t forget Babe. So much kindness and understanding.
would like to hear what the other 8 movies are!
No Steven Seagal's on the list? C'mon..? It would really improve your life.
You should definitely continue the series. I've only watched Catch Me if You Can and Crazy Stupid Love out of all the 8, some of my recommendations would be:
Men of Honor
Rudy
Pursuit of Happyness
Rocky 1
A beautiful Mind
Whiplash
Unbroken
October Sky
The list is heavily incomplete without Taxi Driver (1976). Everyone especially boys at the age of 18 should watch it. I can easily say it's the most important movie you'll ever watch.
Dude this list is so genuine I love it! No prentious films that have great scores or meta plots. Just a random list of movies that had an impact. I think people forget that lower rated/comedy films can still impact your life in a meaningful way.
Also, I love all 8 of these films so that helps!
Definitely would be interested in another in this series
You lost my respect when you included Elf, then immediately regained it when you retracted your inclusion of it at the end.
Definitely up for another episode of this 👌🏼
I love that Monte Cristo is on this list. The movie has been on my top 5 list since its release!
Abignale lied about lying. He was no where near the con man portrayed in that movie.
